Cannot bring liveCache database into "warm" mode

Hello,
We recently added disk capacity to our liveCache server and when we were adding data volumes one of the devices that was assigned to a log volume was also assigned to a new data volume.
When we stopped the database and re-started it, we started getting the following errors:

It appears that we've either corrupted or destroyed one of our log volumes so the database will not start. Our recovery method of choice would be to re-initailize our database and restore from a good backup, but recently found out our backups are no good.
We've also tried to clear the logs using the 'util_execute clear log' command, but that is not working either:
dbmcli on LCT>util_execute clear log
ERR
-24988,ERR_SQL: sql error
-902,Message not available
Does anyone have any ideas on how we might be able to fix the issue and save our database?
Thanks.
Matthew

    > I have done the recovery using database manager gui 7.5 by using recovery option. Infact the log area was empty.
    Yes - it may have been empty but it was not formatted - thus the error message.
    You can try (on command line/shell):
    dbmcli -U c -uUTL util_execute clear log
    and after that try to bring the DB online again.

  • Alter database into Archivelog mode.

    HI Team,
    I am using ORACLE 9i.
    I want to convert database into archivelog mode from noarchivelog mode.
    Using the following SQL Commands I can able to convert my database into the Archivelog.
    SQL> connect sys as sysdba

    SQL> alter database archivelog;
    alter database archivelog

    My problem is that I had to shutdown the database before converting it in to the archivelog mode...
    Is there any way that without shuting down the database i can switch to archivelog mode.
    Please comments...

    if we shutdown immediate one's database..do
    it's listener terminated too???The database registration with the listener yes, the listener itself no. That is, if you execute a command like "lsnrctl stat" you won't see the database anymore, but the listener is still active. Example :

  • Problem in Converting Database into Archivelog mode (Oracle 10G)

    Hi Team,
    I come across a strange problem in the ORACLE 10G Server.
    I am converting database mode from NoArchivelog to Archivelog mode through RMAN in 10G.
    Now When I execute these following commands through RMAN prompt it works properly as shown below?
    C:\>rman
    Recovery Manager: Release 10.2.0.1.0 - Production on Thu Nov 30 18:01:08 2006

    RMAN> connect target /
    connected to target database: RAVI (DBID=4025722893, not open)
    RMAN> shutdown immediate;
    using target database control file instead of recovery catalog
    database dismounted
    Oracle instance shut down
    RMAN> STARTUP MOUNT;
    connected to target database (not started)
    Oracle instance started
    database mounted
    Total System Global Area 167772160 bytes
    Fixed Size 1247876 bytes
    Variable Size 79693180 bytes
    Database Buffers 79691776 bytes
    Redo Buffers 7139328 bytes
    RMAN> SQL 'ALTER DATABASE ARCHIVELOG';
    sql statement: ALTER DATABASE ARCHIVELOG
    RMAN> ALTER DATABASE OPEN;
    database opened
    RMAN>
    But this same script when i writes in the backup.ora file & pass to Rman prompt it fails,
    File backup.ora contains...
    run
    SHUTDOWN IMMEDIATE;
    STARTUP MOUNT;
    SQL 'ALTER DATABASE ARCHIVELOG';
    ALTER DATABASE OPEN;
    passed to RMAN as follows...
    C:\OracleCode\BACKUP>"C:\oracle\product\10.2.0\db_1\bin\RMAN.EXE" target /"connect target SYSTEM/sreedhar@RAVI" log="C:\ORACLE~2\LOGS\backup_log.log" append cmdfile="C:\ORACLE~2\BACKUP\backup.ora"
    RMAN> 2> 3> 4> 5> 6> 7> 8>
    then it fails giving the following errors...
    using target database control file instead of recovery catalog
    database closed
    database dismounted
    Oracle instance shut down

    The same thing is working in the Oracle 9i but not in the Oracle 10G.
    Can Anybody plz help me in this?
    Regards,
    S.Tiwari
    .

    export ORACLE_SID=<SID>
    rman target /cmdfile="C:\ORACLE~2\BACKUP\backup.ora"
    it will connect to the default SID, there's no such thing as a default SID, what do you mean?
    But what if there are more that one SID available & I
    want to connect to SID other than the default SID.just specify the desired SID prior starting rman.
    more over the same string is working with 9i but not
    with 10G.maybe due to a bug?
    to summarize, you have two options it you would like to start up the instance:
    either you specify the SID prior starting rman and use os authentication
    or
    you register the instance statically and use oracle authentication.

  • Cannot bring program window into main screen... don't know why?!?!?

    hi all... any help would be greatly appreciated on the below:
    I am using a music program (torq by m-audio) and did not have any problems with it. Last night, when I tried to open the application, it is bouncing in the dock when it is loading. after it loads, the program name is showing on the top left corner of the screen. However, the actual program window/browser was not showing up. I thought there was an issue with the program so I restarted computer several times, and also reinstalled program several times, to no avail. After hitting some random buttons, I had hit F9 to bring up all windows running in the background AND I COULD SEE THE PROGRAM RUNNING. However, when I try clicking on it, it slides to the right of the screen and disappears. Can someone help me out as I cannot seem to figure out what the problem is... I have also tried changing the screen resolution and for it to detect displays in case it somehow thought i had another monitor hooked up. Its driving me nuts!!! Thanks in advance!

    It sounds like you might have had Spaces enabled and the program got assigned to a particular Space.
    I've seen problems reported by people who turn off Spaces so that they can't see the extra desktops, but a program still launches to the "unseen" desktop.
    If this is the case, you could turn Spaces back on to see if you can see your application on one of the desktops. If so, change the Spaces preferences for the program to make it only come up on desktop #1, then remove the program from the Spaces list of programs, then turn off Spaces again.

  • HT3371 What if you cannot bring your computer into an apple store? (For unknown reasons)

    My Macbook is currently running on "Service Battery" and with that I know I need to replace it soon. This computer was from my brother. He sent it to me since this is my first year in Highschool and he could get it for free since he works for Apple. When he gave it to me, he said I couldn't bring it into an Apple store. He didn't give me a reason though and Im afraid to go past what he said and bring it in.
    Anyone have any advice?

    It would help to know which one of the 9 different models of MacBook you have. To see which model you have go to the Apple in the upper left corner and select About This Mac, then click on More Info (and then System Report if you’re running 10.7 Lion or 10.8 Mountain Lion). When System Profiler comes up check the Model Identifier and post it back here.

    I created the pfile and when I tried to start the db it is throwing the error ORA-01102 cannot mount the database in exclusive mode. I didnt start any databases
    but it is throughing this error You can try to create pfile:
    SQL> create pfile from spfile;How you tryed to mount?
    Like this?
    SQL> STARTUP EXCLUSIVE MOUNT dbnameExclusive mode is usually needed when SYSTEM tablespace is being migrated.

  • Database in suspect mode...why does it happen?

    I am using SQL 2012 SE with A-P clustering. We had an automatic failover around 3:00AM and the replication publisher database went into suspect mode. I gave it some time to see if it would come back to normal mode all by itself and when it did not I took
    the db to emergency mode and then single user mode and did dbcc check and then when there were no errors I tried to bring it to multi user mode and it would still remain in emergency mode.
    I tried to do take it offline and bring it online.But it wont go offline as it says database is in replication and cannot be taken offline. So I had to broke replication and take the database offline and brought it back online and then restarted the replication
    from scratch.
    I came to know that the LUN went offline and then came back online and that triggered the failover.
    But, why did the publisher database go to suspect mode? I told my IT manager that the underlying disk that went offline was hosting the publisher database and since the disk went down and came back it took the database to suspect mode but he would believe it.
    Is there a way that we can tell for sure that a specific issue caused the database go to suspect mode? Like any log/eventvwr? I had transaction log backups running like once every 10 mins for publisher database...could that be a reason?
    Also are there any specific causes that will take a database into suspect mode?
    Thanks a ton

    From my experience  most of the problems because of physical disk failure ... look also into Event Viewer.

  • How to set the database in NOARCHIVELOG mode

    hellow world,
    I knewly joined this organization.
    Our database is very small < 4GB data.
    Database is running in ARCHIVELOG MODE.
    since we are not keeping any physical backup, so I opted to run the datbase in NOARCHIVELOG mode.
    For bringing the database in NOARCHIVE MODE, I simply changed the init.ora parameter LOG_ARCHIVE_START = FALSE and restart the database.
    offcourse the archiving stopped, but to my strange after 30 to 40 minutes my all log files filled an error message is being displayed to the server, saying
    log files are filled, waiting for the archiving, Oh my God, What has happened, All users came to my head, DATABASE HANGED, NOT RESPONSING.
    SIR, MY QUESTION IS
    WHAT FOR ALL LOG FILES WAITING?
    when i am saying NOARCHIEVE than
    please explain me, where i committed mistake. I am new to ADMINISTRATION.

    1. Not keeping any physical backup is all the more reason to stay in archivelog mode.
    2. You need to shutdown the database, startup mount, and issue 'alter database noarchivelog', the alter database open.

  • Database in Archivelog mode

    Hi
    All,
    I have oracle 9.2.0.6 at my workplace.right now my database running in ARCHIVELOG MODE. I want to set it to NOARCHIVELOG MODE.
    can I do on the fly? in other way, Do I need to shutdown and restart database?
    Any help will be appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Vishal

    Hi,
    Issue the following commands to put a database into NOARCHVELOG mode:
    1) Take Back up of Present SPfile by creating pfile
    create pfile from present spfile.
    2) Shutdown the database by SUTDOWN IMMEDIATE.
    3) Take Cold backup of the database.
    4) Change the parameter in the pfile.
    log_archive_start = FALSE
    #log_archive_dest_1 = 'LOCATION='Your location'
    log_archive_dest_state_1 = DISABLE
    #log_archive_format = %d_%t_%s.arc
    5) And make a spfile from the modified pfile in default location .
    6) Start the database with spfile.
    SQL> CONNECT sys AS SYSDBA
    SQL> STARTUP MOUNT ;
    SQL> ALTER DATABASE ARCHIVELOG;
    SQL> ARCHIVE LOG START;
    SQL> ALTER DATABASE OPEN;
    NOTE 1: Remember to take a baseline database backup right after disabling archivelog mode. Without it one would not be able to recover.
    Regards
    Jafar

  • How to put database in RESTRICTED mode ?

    Hi,
    in 9.2.0.6 on Windows 2003 server how to put database in RESTRICTED mode ?
    Many thanks before.

    ERROR at line 1:
    ORA-12719: operation requires database is in RESTRICTED mode
    That's because 'ALTER SYSTEM QUIESCE RESTRICTED' doesn't actually put the database into restricted mode:
    SQL> select logins, active_state from v$instance;
    LOGINS       ACTIVE_ST
    ALLOWED       NORMAL
    SQL> alter system quiesce restricted;
    System altered.
    SQL> select logins, active_state from v$instance;
    LOGINS       ACTIVE_ST
    ALLOWED       QUIESCEDTry staring the database in restricted mode and then quiescing it:
    SQL>
    SQL> shutdown immediate;
    Database closed.
    Database dismounted.
    ORACLE instance shut down.
    SQL> startup restrict;
    ORACLE instance started.
    Total System Global Area  167772160 bytes
    Fixed Size                  1289508 bytes
    Variable Size             117441244 bytes
    Database Buffers           46137344 bytes
    Redo Buffers                2904064 bytes
    Database mounted.
    Database opened.
    SQL> alter system quiesce restricted;
    System altered.
    SQL> select logins, active_state from v$instance;
    LOGINS           ACTIVE_ST
    RESTRICTED       QUIESCED
    SQL>As you can see from V$INSTANCE, when you are running in restricted mode LOGINS will have a value of 'RESTRICTED'
    However - I still think that if you are dealing with users logging in to your (RESTRICTED) database via the listener then the easiest option is to stop the listener whilst the database is down and restart it once your alter database command has completed.
    PS : No any other user is connected.No, they wouldn't be this time because you had quiesced the database... but you still need to get the database into restricted mode for this alter database command.

  • PMON and ORA-01102: cannot mount database in EXCLUSIVE mode error

    hello all
    I have been asked to look into a problem server with the following details
    OS: sunOS 5.8
    Oracle: 10.2.0.1
    sys user password is not available !
    backgrround processes for the instance(sid=test) are running
    only schema credentials available and with that user is able to connect.
    verified all oraenv parameters(ORACLE_SID is same as the running instance(test)).
    only one instance is configured in this server(verified all tnsnames.ora, data files etc).oratab is empty
    the issues are,
    when I tried to connect to the server using "oracle" user using conn / as sysdba
    1. Tried to shutdown using , shutdown immediate
    ORA-01507:database not mounted
    ORACLE instance shut down
    still able to see the background processes and user is able to connect
    2. Tried startup command,
    In the nomount state I can see more than one PMON process with the same sid
    when tried to mount/open
    ran into the error,
    ORA-01102: cannot mount database in EXCLUSIVE mode
    Eventhough the background processes for the "test" instance are running I am not able to shutdown the instance using "oracle" user
    please help
    newbie

    hi
    i renamed lk* file but the issue still remains,
    with the oracle user
    1./ as sysdba
    2. shutdown immediate
    this leads to
    ORA-01034: ORACLE not available
    ORA-27101: shared memory realm does not exist
    SVR4 Error: 2: No such file or directory
    still not able to identify the running oracle instance.
    there is only one oracle home and the oraenv details are set with the correct values
    verified the alert log(ora home details are matching with the env details), details of the oracle processes which are active are in the alert log along with the startup failures(mount errors) at the tail end
    oracle sysdba is not able to identify the already running instance?
    please help

    I updated my iphone 5 to ios 6.something (something about the speakers) to get rid of a notification and it went into recovery mode!!! My photos are not backed up or on icloud. i havent restored yet because i cannot lose my photos/videos, etc. but tinyumbrella wont work to exit recovery mode. HELP! please:(
    i tried tinyumbrella (and another similar software) to exit recovery but it only remains on the apple logo stuck there. please is there anything else i can do? i've contacted apple and they have told me the only choice i have is to restore and lose all my data.
    my iphone isn't jailbroken and i've updated before without this problem so i'm not sure what has happened. is there anyyy hope please ???

    First I would try to hold down the power and the home button for about 15sec, but at least as long as the iPhone restarts, if it is still stuck or still in recovery mode then I can suggest you the tool "Wondershare Dr. Fone for iOS", it is both a Windows and Mac tool and I just used it today to get my iPad out of the Recovery mode.
    Tell me if any of these options worked for you.
