Cannot change Radix Labview 2010
Good Afternoon,
I'm trying to change the radix of an integer constant to Hex display in LabView 2010, as discussed in this post:
http://forums.ni.com/t5/LabVIEW/How-can-I-create-a-hexadecimal-constant-in-LabVIEW/td-p/1008715
However, in the right click context menu I do not see a "Hex" option.
I was able to copy/paste the integer from the forum posted VI and use it in my application, but I Need to know how to change the display to Hexadecimal
And I don't want to use a HEX string to integer conversion, I should be able to input a hex number directly into a numeric constant just like in C
Thank you,
In the menu you have to go to Display Format to change the radix. Then you have to go to Appearance to show the radix. This last step should be easier.

Cannot install fully LabVIEW 2010 on WinXP SP3
Hello,
I have tried numerous time today to install the NI Developer Suite 2010 using install discs. I have catalogged all of the items that did not install. LV 2010 does work but I am not sure if everything works. Here are the items and the order in which I was not able to install them:
"Critical Issues when using National instruments Drivers with Microsoft Visual Studio.NET 2010 resolved by NI-PAL 2.6.5" - I successfully installed this but the message always comes up and gives me a "Are you sure you want to proceed" type message when I try to keep installing
"NI-USI 1.8.0" did not install.Error 1935
"NI-LabVIEW Runtime Engine Interop 2010" Error 1935
"NI AFW UI Assemblies" Error 1935
"NI Measurement Studio 8.6 Enterprise Runtime for VS2005" Error 1935
"NI AFW Channel Configuration Tool" Error 1935
"NI AFW Custom UI Assemblies" Error 1935
"NI LabWindows/CVI 2009 Service Pack 1 Runtime Engine" - No error number
Any idea if I need these applications to run LV 2010?
Thanks.
Solved!
Go to Solution. It sounds like there may be something strange going on with your .NET framework that is causing this driver conflict. Try uninstalling your current .NET framework as well as LabVIEW (from add/remove programs) and re-installing from the Microsoft .NET Framework page followed by a fresh LabVIEW install.
A couple other things to note:
Make sure that you have all of your anti-virus software/ firewalls turned off while trying to install LabVIEW. We've seen this install error caused by that before.
Also, make sure that you're installing your drivers after your LabVIEW installation.

Cannot change year to 2010 for new events
The calendar shows the current year 2010, but when I enter a new event the year is 2009 and it is not editable. Also when I enter a birthday in my address book the birth year shows up as 2000 and cannot edit it.
Pratrap, could you gently tell us which PS 2010 version are you using? This is going to help us on solving you issue.

LabVIEW 2010 crashes when changing representation of TypeDef
Hello NI,
I have to report a bug
which causes LV 2010 to crash with error in "datamgr.cpp", line 2720.
This crash is reproduceable.I use LabVIEw 2010, 32 bit on Windows 7.
To cause this crash you have to perform the
following steps (I attached a sample VI to reproduce these steps.):
Place a ring control on the FP, change
representation to I32
On the BD, create a property node “Strings
And Values[]”
The datatype of this property is Array of
Cluster with 2 Elems, “String” & “Value”, where “Value” is of type I32
Create a control of this property,
surprisingly the type of Value is “extended”
On the FP, select the cluster inside the
array, click “Customize Control…” from Edit- menu
In the Control- Editor change the DataType
of Value to I32, then exit the Control Editor without saving the control,
but replacing the original cluster
LabVIEW 2010 will crash with the error
message stated above
The problem is to change the
representation of the cluster element, where the cluster is part of a typedef. A
solution is to forbid to call the “Customize”- editor directly from the FP (not
nice) or to forbid to replace the orginal control, instead force the user to
save the altered control to a .ctl (nicer).
This shows a general problem with TypeDefs,
where the array of a not-typedefed cluster is typedefed. This was discussed
earlier with the cursor list of waveform graphs (couldn’t find it anymore, but
read it in this forum) where this problem also can occur. So this is an appeal
to National Instruments to change the TypeDef to the clusters and make arrays
of them.
And, after all, for me it is
unexpected behaviour that a constant / control / indicator, created from a
property (or any terminal / node I can find on the BD) has another datatype
than the original terminal or node.

Cannot change library path or name when configuring a library call function
I cannot change the library path or name when configuring a library call. I browse to the new location, click OK. The new path appears in the box. I click OK to dismiss the configuration. Then I re-open the configuration and the old path has magically appeared. I wouldn;t care but I get a fatal error whenever I execute the call. (Another VI with the same call but to a different library works fine. So I am trying to get the failing call to use the one that works.)
I am using version 7.1
It turns out that everything works fine in LV 2010 but the customer doesn't have that rev.
I am remotely debugging this using GoToMeeting. Sounds weird, but I fell into that. It works fine, I have a screen which looks exactly like the screen in the customers site. I can do everything, albeit with a little time drag. The thing is, I e-mailed the VI from his site to mine so that I could send it to you. But it works fine here. So the question is what could be different there that would cause this?
The main problem that I am trying to solve is that when I run the VI, I get a message
"Labview: An exception occurred within the external code called by the Call Library Node. This might have corrupted Labview's memory. Save any work to a new location and restart Labview"
If I set the Library Node on my machine to the correct function, it runs without error. It seems, however, to start with a different function and then I get the same error. I would think that if there is a parameter mismatch that the library would return an error status, but this appears not to be the case. (I did not write the library, HP (Agilent) did) The function is correct at the customer's machine. -
I am upgrading a windows XP 32 bit lab to a Windows 7 64 bit Enterprise lab using Tektronix TDS1012C-EDU Scopes. When I launch LabView 2010 the software cannot find the scopes and display a message "No devices found". The scopes show up in device manage and in windows devices. I am have upgraded to the latest version of NI-Visa and installed all the critical updates for Labview 2010. The scopes are connected via a USB connection. I contacted Tektronix and they had me upgrade the bios in the scopes. Still nothing. Any help is welcome.
Do you have National Instruments Measurement and Automation Explorer installed (if you installed the NI drivers it should have been)? If yes, look to see if it can see the instruments, and if it does, see if the names or aliases are what is expected in your program. Of course, if the USB are being used as serial ports adapters then you may not see them. If they are, then quite possibly the settings or comm port associations have changed.

Run-time engine problem in Labview 2009 and Labview 2010
I have a problem with Labview 2009 and Labview 2010. I updated my Labview 2009 into 2010. But it turned out to be a trial one, because i did not have the serial number. So I uninstalled the Labview 2010. however, the funny stuff came over. I cannot use my Labview 2009. So i uninstalled Labview 2009 again. But eventually, I could not reinstall Labview 2009. Every time i had a runtime error and i could not proceed with the installation. in addition, any installation related to Labview is not permitted and the same error came up every time. it is very annoying.
So, What is the deal?
I attached the error here. Any comments or advice are welcomed and appreciated.

We want to use LabVIEW 2010 to send/receive floating points from LabVIEW 2010 to/from a network (192.168.101.xxx) that utilizes GE ethernet global data protocol (EGD).
The network has several HMI's running Cimplicity Plant Edition 4.01.
We can configure Cimplicity to read modbus points from LabVIEW using LabVIEW's multi-variable editor and a modbus slave library.
However, we cannot get the points from LabVIEW to read/write to the EGD protocol. Anyone ever run into this?EGD is a UDP message (port 4746h) with a special header.See below for header structure (32 Bytes). Send UDP at constant rate. Limit user data to 1400 bytes. If you want to receive EGD data don't forget to increase the MaxSize connector on UDP receive to 1500. Are you using the a csv file or SDB Server to get tag names? Or manually entering tag names in cimplicity? This works much better than OPC because all parameters are contained in your labview executable. If you have a redundant cimplicity HMi Server send as Broadcast to the local subnet. All consumers will get the EGD telegram. Example IPA of 192.168.0.255. Server 1 IPA 192.168.0.1 and Server 2 IPA 192.168.0.2
Maybe to late for this project but would be a good upgrade or the next project. -
Hi
First off here is a link to a discussion of the problem. http://forums.ni.com/t5/LabVIEW/Error-6-occurred-when-building-an-Executable-in-Labview-2009/m-p/997...
I have tried all the suggestions on this link with no luck.
Background: have been using LabVIEW 2010 without problems since Sept, then I started getting the error 6 with the following message.
" Error 6 occurred at Delete in AB_Engine_Delete_Internal_Files.vi->AB_EXE.lvclass:Build.vi
->AB_Engine_Build.vi->AB_Build_Invoke.vi->AB_Build_Invoke.vi.ProxyCaller "
This started on one project and is now occurring on another project. Sometimes it builds 50% of the time, other times I can't get it to build at all. I have upgraded to SP1, no change.
Here are some things I have tried.
Moved build directory to c:\a
Renamed project, moved project right under c:\
Disabled Google , disabled Win indexing, disabled Win7 user acct. Control, run LabVIEW as Admit all the time, win explorer closed
mass compiling, closing the project, closing LabVIEW, re-booting
Unistalled LabVIEW 2010 SP1 and re-install, twice.
I believe I rebuilt my project in a new project.
I moved my projects to a WinXP system laptop I have, and they never get Error 6 ! Short term fix, but I have to use Win7. So I hope this means it is not my code.
The funny thing is that this is totally random. The unfunny thing is having to explain to a client I can't get my code to compile during a frustrating 95% of the time failure episode, yikes!
Any help and suggestions would be welcome.
BTW, the next step is to totally uninstall LabVIEW with a 'special' procedure and piece of code sent to me. Don't want to, but am really at wits end. Also waiting to hear back from my service ticket, but am desperate to have parallel solutions to try.
Thanks
Mark RamsdaleThanks for the clarify.
I also meant to post this link. It has a lot of info, this is the link I tried most if not all of the suggestions for.
http://forums.ni.com/t5/LabVIEW/Get-Error-6-about-50-of-time-when-building-Application/td-p/1242634
By the way, I was told that uninstalling LabVIEW will not resolve the issue, dodged a time killer :-)
It seems the error is caused by Win7 and file reserving. Waiting to hear back on that. Have an SR.
Again, any suggestions welcomed, maybe some Win7 ideas from those who know more about it.

Labview 2010 run-time engine silent install
I am having trouble with installing the run-time engine for LabVIEW 2010 with the silent option.
I am using the minimum version of the run-time engine.
Before I used the LV7 run-time engine. Then I could install it silently using LVRunTimeEng.exe /qb!
In LabVIEW 2010 the run-time engine is no longer a single file but a directory that contains the installation files. There are two files that can be used to launch the installer Setup.exe and LV2010runtime.msi.
Setup.exe does not seem to accept any command-line arguments. LV2010runtime.msi however accepts the command-line arguments and can be installed silently.
Now my problem is that I am building a windows installer using a third party application and it is only possible to launch exe files after the installation completes. Before I could launch the LVRunTimeEng.exe /qb! to install the labview 7 run-time engine but now when I have upgraded to labview 2010 I cannot do the same for Setup.exe.
My question is if it is possible to use the Setup.exe file to install the Labview 2010 run-time engine (minumum) silently?Setup.exe runs a number of other .exe files during its execution. This article looks like it will allow you to run setup.exe silently by supressing all messages and windows:

Problem in converting a simulink model in LabVIEW 2010
hello,
I have developed a Simulink model in MATLAB which I want to convert into equivalent LabVIEW VI's. The simulink model is as attached. The problem here is:-
LabVIEW is not able to convert all the mechanical blocks named Ankle revolute joint, Body , joint actuator and joint sensor into equivalent LabVIEW VI.
Is it possible to convert those blocks into equivalent LabVIEW VI's?
PS:- I am using LabVIEW 2010.

AAFO.PNG 19 KBHi Susheel,
RFC module interface parameters (import, export , tables) can only refer to data dictionary types. Hence if you currently have one of the parameters referring to a type defined in your function group main include or in a type pool, you need to create a SE11 data dictionary structure/ table type for that and then change the data type reference.

3D graphs cause LabVIEW 2010 to hang
I've been using LabVIEW 2010 for several weeks without any problems, but today I noticed that it doesn't work at all with anything related to the 3D picture control. Today was the first time that I tried doing anything with the 3D picture tool since installing LV 2010. Dropping any of the 3D Graphs on the front panel of a new VI causes LV2010 to hang. (By hang, I mean the VI window remains open but most UI things no longer work. Right-clicking on the window does not show a context menu. The main menu doesn't work. The X button does not close the VI front panel window nor the diagram window. Control-Q does not cause LabVIEW to quit. I have to kill the process in Task Manager.) It is the same story with just a plaing 3D picture indicator. Also, the solarsystem.vi example does not work either. The problems start as soon as I open the solarsystem.vi. After killing LV with Task Manager and relaunching LV10, I do not get the LV message about a previous crash.
The problem I am talking about is for LabVIEW 2010 with the f2 patch running in Win7. I am actually running it using VMware Fusion 3.1.3 on a 2009 Mac Pro running Lion. The Mac drivers are all updated. Since it is VMware Fusion machine, the video driver on the Windows side is part of the VMware Tools installation, which is up to date.
After searching the forums, I've tried all the other potential solutions I could find: 1) repaired LV2010 using add/remove programs and 2) tried using the compatibilty mode settings to turn off Aero.
Interestingly, 3D graphs work fine on the Mac side for LV2010 for Mac.
Even more insterestingly, 3D graphs work fine on Win7 for LV 8.5, which I still have installed. The fact that it works fine for LV 8.5 would seem to indicate that Lion did not introduce the problem and that the video driver is working fine.
Solved!
Go to Solution.Yep, it's the same virtual machine. I set it up almost 2 years ago and it has been extremely stable. Both LabVIEW 8.5 and 2010 have been perfectly happy on it. It's a great way to do LabVIEW on Win7. I didn't notice any changes at all to the VM when I upgraded from Snow Leopard to Lion. I installed LabVIEW 2010 before upgrading to Lion, but I didn't have occasion to work with 3D controls before the upgrade to Lion so I don't know if it would have worked on Snow Leopard. The Mac versions of both LabVIEW 8.5 and LabVIEW 2010 also work great on the both Snow Leopard and Lion.
I happen to have an XP virtual machine too, but I haven't installed LabVIEW there. Let me know if that would be a worthwhile test.
You might check with Marc Page--unless he has already upgraded again I think he has a similar machine to mine.

Strange problem of calling library function node in labview 2010 and 2011
one year ago,I develop a program to usb device data and it works well,in labview 8.6 or 2009(win xp).Recently, When I test
the program in labview 2010 and labview 2011(win xp).,the program always crash immediately.I check the program and find main
problem is in call library function node. In my program,I use labview 2009 library for the USBExpress driver for
Silicon Labs USB MCU's from:https://decibel.ni.com/content/docs/DOC-9522,for example, 2 functions SI_OPEN and SI_READ
can not work well.
the header definition of SI_OPEN and SI_READ is:
SI_STATUS WINAPI SI_Open(
DWORD dwDevice,
HANDLE* cyHandle
SI_STATUS WINAPI SI_Read(
HANDLE cyHandle,
LPVOID lpBuffer,
DWORD dwBytesToRead,
LPDWORD lpdwBytesReturned,
OVERLAPPED* o = NULL
the SI_STATUS is equivalent to int type.
orignally, for HANDLE * in SI_Open, the parameter type in call library function node is numeric, data format is unsigned 32 bit integer ,and pass pointer to value.
for HANDLE in SI_Read, the parameter type in call library function node is numeric, data format is unsigned 32 bit integer ,and pass value. The program works well in labview 8.6&2009,however,crash in labview 2010 &2011.
later,I debug the program, for HANDLE *, I choose parameter type in call library function node as adapt to type, data format is point to Handles.for HANDLE, I choose parameter type in call library function node as adapt to type, data format is Handles by Value.Crash not happend in labview 2010&2011,however,it cannot read any data from from USB device correctly as before.I can not find the reason.
Dear friends,I need your help to answer the problem. Thank you.Based on the help page it looks like it should execute asynchronously.
The thing in the description that leads me to believe they execute asynchronously is that you can configure the library to run as a multi-threaded operation.
Please take a look here to see the difference between synchronous and asynchronous execution.
Since the code even has the ability to be multi-threaded, you can consider it as running in parallel to your other code.
Any data returned is passed to the thread that called that function.

I'm using LabVIEW 2010 SP1 (32-bit) and I noticed today that I cannot place my custom controls on a VI's front panel when I use the "Select a Control..." option on the "Controls" pop-up palette. I'm wondering if anyone else is having this same problem?
Steps to reproduce the problem:
1) Create a custom control, or download/save the attached custom control "Machine State.ctl" (< a strictly-typed enum control).
2) Open a VI (new or existing).
2.1) If the "Controls" palette is visible (pinned open), close it.
3) Right-click with the mouse on the VI's front panel window to display the "Controls" pop-up palette.
Note: DO NOT use the "Controls" option in the "View" menu here.
Note: DO NOT pin open the Controls pop-up palette at this point.
See my comments below in the "Notes" section.
4) "Controls" palette > "Select a Control..." option
5) Using the "Select the Control to Open" dialog, browse to, select and open the custom control file (e.g., "Machine State.ctl").
At this point the on-screen cursor should show the outline of an instance of the custom control I just opened, but for me that doesn't happen; all I see is the "+" crosshair cursor, and left-clicking with the mouse on the front panel does not place an instance of the custom control on the front panel.
Notes:
* In step 3) above, if I open the VI's "View" menu and select the "Controls" option, or if I pop-up the "Controls" palette and pin the palette to keep it open, I can successfully use the "Select a Control..." option to browse to, select, open, and place an instance of my custom control on the VI's front panel. The failure only occurs when I use the "Select a Control..." option on the pop-up (unpinned) version of the Controls palette.
* I can successfully drag-and-drop an instance of a custom control onto a VI's front panel from a Windows Explorer window, or from the LabVIEW project explorer window.
* The host computer is running Windows 7 Enterprise x64 w/ SP1.

MachineState.ctl 5 KBJust now I tried creating and using controls on five different computers, each running Windows 7 Enterprise x64 w/ SP1.
On three of the systems the problem did not occur; I was able to place a user-defined control on the front panel using the "Select a control..." option on the controls palette.
On two of the systems the problem still occurs. Upon further investigation, however, I learned that the hard drives in these two systems were cloned from a "master" hard drive image the IT department created. So I'm guessing there's some bad mojo on the master hard drive image, and that's what's caused this problem to show up on these two systems (and others).
So for now, I'm just going to put up with having to use the old "drag-and-drop" method for placing user-defined controls on the VIs. Thanks for your feedback and assistance with this.
