Cannot connect to scanner or reinstall software

Recenlty my  Office Jet 7210 AIO would no longer connect for scanning.
I ran the HP HP Print and Scan Doctor Diagnostics tool and it sees the scanner just fine, but tells me I need to reinstall the HP Solutions software. I have tried several times to to install the software and try to see the networked printer with no luck. I have also tried installing an HPC4480 AIO over a USB cable an I cannot even connect with that printer.
I can see the 7210 directly with Windows Internet Explorer by typing in the IP address and with HP Diagnostics, by not with the install program or by trying to add a device in the HP Solutions.
I am running 64 bit Windows 7 Home Premium.
I have tried various things seen on the HP forum, incuding uninstalls, deleting the TEMP folders, deleting registry entries, clean installs with fresh downloads, running HP Updates Software, running Windows system updates, Adobe Flash updates. I have tried with and without firewalls and/or virus software enabled. None of these have worked for either the C4480 over USB, or the networked 7210. I have administrative privledges, and I have tried “Run as Administrator”.
The 7210 does work from other Windows 7 based computers on the home network.
There are two distinct failure areas;
1) The first is that I cannot see the device during the install (either USB or networked).
2) If I try and skip this section and say “add device at a later time” then I get a dialog box at the end of the install process (just after the install is finished section) that states “There is a problem with this Windows installer package. A program required for this install to complete could not be run. Contact your support personnel or package vendor.” The title of the dialog box is HPPhotosmartEssential”. Fixes are then ‘supposedly’ installed on my computer, and I go through that re-install process, but I just get the same results each time.
I have also received a message "Fatal error during installation" in a dialog box titled "-error" "-wStub" "196954" on occaision, after the reinsallation.
Suggestions?

Here's an update after four days working on this...
I re-ran the Windows update and found 4 new updates to install.  I updated those and then tried re-running the install program.  This time it was able to see the networked HP 7210.  However, before the completion of the install it failed.  The new messages were "The system cannot find the file specified" and "Fatal error during installation".  So, it basically crapped out again before completing the install.
I uninstalled again, cleaned up the temp files, and then tried downloading a fresh copy of the "HP Printer Install Wizard for Windows".   With my internet connection this took 30 minutes - at the end of the download it gave me a message "Download cancelled" even though I did not cancel it.  I tried again, and then 30 minutes later I got the same message.  On the third time, and thankfullyafter only 20 minutes I got an install program to run.  It was able to see the networked printer, but once again gave me a couple of file not found errors and could not complete the installation.
After four days, and countless hours working to get one of two HP scanners working I am about to give up.  Any suggestions, or should I start looking at the Canon scanners?

  • Cannot connect to iTunes store after software restore

    Hello, all,
Last week I took my iMac in to the Apple Store to have its internal hard drive replaced. After retrieving the computer, I did a restore off of my Time Machine backup. The restore went smoothly...except that I now cannot do iCloud-related things, particularly iTunes.
--When I launch iTunes, I get a series of error dialogues, advising that the computer does not recognize various certificates (an example would be "buy.itunes.apple.com"); each of these errors advise me that my personal information could be at risk.
--The iTunes Store storefront is blank, though in the title bar I do see my account name.
--When I navigate to iCloud in my browser, Safari informs me that it cannot recognize the iCloud certificate.
--Attempting to sync my iPhone via cable connection, iTunes advises me that the computer is not authorized to share applications downloaded by [my iPhone]. Clicking to authorize yields "We could not complete your iTunes Store request" unknown error dialogues. Other parts of the sync do not complete successfully.
--I cannot connect to the Apple App Store.
Other standard internet functions are working correctly.
I attempted to log out and log back in to iCloud, but logging out failed. "Could not log out of your account at this time." Prior to getting that error, the OS asked me if I wanted local copies of my iCloud [contacts, calendars, notes] kept on my computer. I indicated that, no, I didn't want local copies...despite not logging off successfully all my iCloud information is still gone from the computer.
All content is, however, intact on my iPhone. iPhoto appears to be working fine, on brief inspection, and I have successfully downloaded images off of my iPhone (via cable).
Looking for guidance; is there a plist file I should delete, for example?
    System information:
    --Early 2008 iMac
    --OS X 10.8.3
    --iTunes 11.0.4
--iTunes library hosted on an external HDD
Thanks for any help you can provide!

OK, I've worked it out with the Apple support team, and it was a real doozie. Don't know if anyone else has ever encountered this, but none of the people I spoke with had ever seen it (level 1 support, level 2 support, plus whoever it would be that advises level 2). It was not the authentication problem.
Somehow or other, the central certificates that are part of the OS that recognize Apple services became invalid, or at least the system THOUGHT they were invalid. With the guidance of Apple support, I examined the system certificates via Keychain Access, identified those that were marked invalid, and set them to "always trust." That still didn't work. We removed variuos plists and configurations, hoping that reboots would cause these files to be recreated new...that didn't work.
No Apple services worked: not iCloud, not iTunes, not App Store, not even the remote access program that Apple support had me download to enable screen sharing. All of them gave some version of "cannot verify the identity of the server [something].apple.com.
In the end I had to wipe everything clean and reinstall again from a Time Machine backup. At the suggestion of Apple support, I did not use the most recent backup, but rather one that predated the initial issue that brought about the HDD replacement; it was about a week old. Except for a couple of files that rolled back to earlier versions, everything now works.
Don't know if this had anything to do with anything, but here are some minor things that I noticed:
    (1) My Time Machine backups were all for OS X 10.8.4. The Apple Store team that installed my new HDD installed 10.8.3. The mechanism for importing user accounts from external sources (such as my Time Machine backup) indicated a copy, not necessarily a recovery. I would believe it if you told me that there were changes to security settings between 10.8.3 and 10.8.4
    (2) There were two different mechanisms I used in the two different restores. As I mentioned above, when I did my initial restore it may have been just an import of user accounts and applications -- this was part of the first-time launch of the freshly-installed 10.8.3 OS, the part we've probably all seen where we're invited to do just that. The second time, however, was via the Recovery Partition: that tool is much more direct and offers more options. For one, it recognized all of the different versions of my system in my Time Machine backup, and gave me these options with date and OS listed. This option was not available via the first method.
So, given that no one at Apple seemed to know how this happened, it may very well be that no one reading this may ever see this happen to them. But the lesson I've taken from this is to utilize the Recovery Partition rather than the import function.

  • Purchased upgrade Snow Leopard from Apple and installed, now it says cannot locate my scanner?

Have iMac with OS X version 10.6.3  2.4 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo with 2GB 800 MHz DDRw SDRAM.  Purchased Mac OSX Snow Leopard and installed the upgrade.
Connected to HP Photosmart C4680.  All worked fine until installing Snow Leopard.  Now my C4680 will not scan, says it cannot locate the scanner.  Reinstalled Snow Leopard with the same results.  I tried another Printer, Scanner with the same results.  I set both scanners up from the get go but still get the same results.  I think S.L left something out.  Would appreciate any help.

Unless there are drivers provided by Apple to work with the printer, you're out of luck. The latest drivers provided by Lexmark are for OS X 10.4 Intel. Unfortunately, this can happen when slightly older peripherals and newer software don't mesh.

  • Upgraded to OS X 10.9 and now cannot connect to Canoscan LIDE 90 Scanner. Cant find a new driver anywhere. Any ideas??

I have upgraded to OS X 10.9 and now I cannot connect to my Canoscan LIDE 90 Scanner. Cant find a new driver anywhere. Any ideas??

Like Dan White, I have found that I can still run the Lide 90 under Mavericks. As Dan says, the buttons on the front of the scanner don't work but I rarely if ever used them.
I have just tested the scanner using Acrobat Pro and it loads up the Scangear software to capture the scan, with no problems at all. I didn't have to reinstall anything as it was all there already and working in Mountain Lion. Photoshop CS 5.1 is different; it does not recognise the scanner, presumably because it can't find a TWAIN driver for it. Image Capture does not recognise the scanner either, but I don't have the latest (10.8) Canon MP Explorer and Explorer Opener software installed.

  • Everytime I connect my iPod to USB, iTunes says the following: This iPod cannot be used because the required software is not installed.  Run the iTunes installer to remove iTunes, then install the 64-bit version of iTunes.

I have the latest 64-bit version of iTunes on Windows 7 Ultimate.  Everything was fine until recently.  Now when I connect my iPod Touch to the USB to sync with iTunes, I get the following message:  "This iPod cannot be used because the required software is not installed.  Run the iTunes installer to remove iTunes, then install the 64-bit version of iTunes"  I have removed, repaired, and installed the 64-bit version numerous times as well as disabled all antivirus / adware utilities.  Same message appears when I plug in my iPod.  Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Hi, Mommacat26.
Thank you for visiting Apple Support Communities.
This usually means that a required component is missing.  Start with completely uninstalling iTunes and all of it's components in the order specified in the article below.  Once this is done, download and install iTunes.

    Hello Negaz
When you uninstalled iTunes, did you uninstall it by using the article below or just uninstalled iTunes? The best practice is to remove not only iTunes, but also other associating software in the order that the first article give. If that does not work, then check out the second article for more troubleshooting options for connecting your iPhone to your computer.

  • "The BlackBerry Desktop Software cannot connect with this device." after repair

I download the Desktop Software for BlackBerry onto my Mac Book Pro for the first time.
After installing I connected my PlayBook. I get the message "The BlackBerry® Desktop Software cannot connect with this device."
The program suggested I repair the device software, so I did. After that I set it up and ran the updates.
When I plug it back in I get the exact same message.
    What should I do next?

I also cannot connect to my two playbooks using desktop manager on mac.
One of the two playbooks is now shipped back to rim for repair (see here http://supportforums.blackberry.com/t5/BlackBerry-PlayBook/5MP-Playbook-Camera-Blackscreen-Errors-Ha... The issue of desktop manager not being able to connect to the playbook started with this playbook when the repair I was prompted to to stopped 1/4 way into it. Multiple retries did not make any difference.
Since then, I have tried connecting my other (functioning) playbook to the same mac but when I plug in usb cable I get the same "cannot connect" errmsg and prompted to "repair". I am definitely NOT going to "repair" this one. So I uninstalled the desktop manager and reinstalled it to see if it makes a difference. Unfortunately it did not and I get the same "cannot connect" errmsg.
If anyone has any suggestion how this issue can be resolved that would be great. I think something is stuck on the mac and is not getting wiped out when desktop manager is uninstalled. Thanks.

Right, I'm going to try something, if this works, then this'll probably fix a lot of iTunes problems.
1: Make sure your whole iTunes database is backed up.
2: Uninstall iTunes, then run "Revo Uninstaller", this will remove ALL traces of iTunes from you computer, not your library.
I've found out that when un-installing or re-installing over a previous version of iTunes will carry over some problems from previous versions, or even create problems. Registry leftovers can be a problem also. Completely removing iTunes using "Revo Uninstaller" then re-installing will have the same effect as installing iTunes from a fresh OS install. Typically iTunes should be problem free when installed totally fresh.
3: Re-install the correct version of iTunes fresh and try again.
