Cannot connect to SMB share as a Registered User, but can connect as guest.

I see all of our company servers in the Shared menu. They all automatically connect as Guest as expected with Leotard's fancy pants new networking stuff.
When I try to connect to a server by clicking the Connect As... button, I am prompted for my Registered User info. I enter it correctly (worked fine in Tiger), and the dialog just disappears without any warnings, and I stay connected as Guest.
I am also unable to authenticate to our Windows box that manages our printers, and I suspect it is the same issue.
As a note, I have already followed to excruciating detail the guidelines for connecting to a Windows network as outlined in this wonderful post: Explanation of Leopard NetBIOS (Windows Sharing) Wackyness With Solutions!

Hi
Check your user name in active directory and at the prompt enter the full name
your.name@activedirectorynetwork and password
If your windows network is properly configured you will be able to access the share and printers with no problems.
Leopard works fine in a properly set up windows AD network, is only a bit problematic with windows network without domain controllers

  • Does Lion support connecting to SMB shares?

    Hi there,
Has anyone else had issues connecting to SMB shares since upgrading to Lion?
I am unable to connect to any previously accessible shares hosted on local Linux or Windows servers.
    Thanks,
    Bob

For those of you trying to access SMB shares, I found a free and easy solution.
Since a lot of people report they are able to access their NAS using apps other than the Finder itself, I decided to look for a free Lion-compatible File Manager to use instead of Finder.
I have found muCommander ( http://www.mucommander.com/ ) and indeed it works fine. All I did was click on the button highlighted bellow, go to "bonjour services" and select my NAS. It prompted me for my username and password and voilá, it works fine.
I keep Finder for everyday use and just load muCommander when I want to access the NAS. At least now I don't have to start my WinXP VM anymore just to access it.
    Hope it helps you all.

  • Mount SMB share accessible by all users

    Hello,
I aim to have a smb share accessible to all users.
I've tried to mount with mount_smbfs ou autofs, but each time the mount is only accessible to one user and no right to group or others.
This is what i've do with autofs :
    in /etc/auto_master
    /Volumes/Resources
    auto_resources
    in /etc/auto_resources
    MyShare
    -fstype=smbfs
    ://login:password@hostname/share
Then i enable the share with
    sudo automount -vcu
When i try to acces the folder, it succeed but all the rights on all files in the share and the main folder it self become rwx------
    The same occure with mount_smbfs.
How can i "force" the permissions of the shared folder to fit my need ?
    Thanks

It sounds like you are talking about multiple users on a single computer being able to use the same mounted share at the same time.
As you have seen this does not work. Either each will get their own individual mounted copy, e.g. "/Volumes/Resources", "/Volumes/Resources 1", /Volumes/Resources 2" etc., or the others execept for the first user will be blocked. This limitation applies to both AFP and SMB.
However if you use NFS and do this before anyone logs in then it will be accessible for all users on that Mac at the same time.
NFS is still available in Mountain Lion.

  • Can't Connect to one person any more even though we can connect to others

I'm hoping that someone has an idea of what i can do to remedy this situation.
I have been video ichating w/ my wife from work for many months. (she does work for my office from home, so it's ok) She has a MacBook Pro and I have a MacBook. Things worked great until about three or four weeks ago. Now we cannot connect w/ video OR audio at all. I can connect w/ anybody else on my list from work and she can connect w/ anybody else on her list from home. But when we try to connect w/ each other, we get the error -22 bandwidth problem.
How is it possible that it is only our direct connection that does not have enough bandwidth when we can use our same connections to video chat w/ others??
We are both current w/ updates on all of our software.

    I give up,
There are so many routers, osx, macs and settings that it is difficult to find a repeatable bug.
It just feels like that there are three factors that cause connection problems.
And then different combinations when you look backwards.
So what I have to say is that I cannot pin it down or remotely claim I have firm reason to believe what I say is right but I do see some "combinations of plausible suspects causing the same error message"
The first Macbook Pro was a hard one, refined, improved etc but a non connector.
And it was very hot, uncomfortable hot. I think the designers had been a little to enthusiastic speeding up the processor time.
Now the heat wouldn't be a real problem, the amount of calculations within a very short time might have caused the probook to
be the king of not connecting. There was a certain issue with a card that time so not impossible. Another variable caught the eye.
The graveyard of routers. Understandable, you hide your router and hope you never have to see it again. They do age though, fast.
Updates and firmware did bring some relieve but the Apple chips are something completely different then when tests showed all was good with your good old router. Yet my G4's did respond and my G5 did not. Something totally different caused the error but it gave the same error tekst. it was me who managed to give my computers the exact same identity. Well the error message was: "user does not respond" and I was convinced that it was some kind of bug causing the universal iChat "does not respond" mistery. The port-forwarding was the only fair chance for connecting, and with endless patience and effort Ralph and a lot of others almost personally fixed every possible router combination sold by Apple. The design and coding assignment however was complete the opposite, plug 'n play. Somehow our neighbor was iChatting just by pointing at his router and we did not respond.
In the beginning the specs looked good, it worked fantastic when you managed to avoid to get one or two "show stoppers" in your setup.
A lot of bandwidth, the right sort of router for your specific setup (os version, router software and maybe the right camera and much more)
It is a miracle that some of us got it right the first time. It ran flawlessly if you had the right combination of settings, hardware and software.
And oh boy, what a pain if you got them all wrong. I've been busy at night so to say.
But there is hope, I've seen Macs go online right out of the box (10.4.8) and it looks promising. They all went full motion video chat with no change to settings or any other effort then clicking on your language etc. Splendid. I dare to say that you need to put an effort in it to get it wrong.
The new 802.11n routers that are leaving the shops are fast and steady, 10.4.9 is ready, and in the distance there is a cat waiting that is awesome. I think I already know which airport/router/musicstore/videoshop I'm going to buy.
Just hope Apple doesn't forget to sync the time with MS, it could take a while to debug.
    Regards,
    JP
Some tips if you can't wait to chat:
1st, it makes no real difference who your ISP is in this case as your issue is not ISP related.
2nd, whether your computer is named or not in the file sharing prefpane should have no bearing on how well your computer hooks back up to the wireless network following sleep.
3rd, PPPoE is not a setting for your wireless network and shouldn't be a setting for any other computers on the wired network behind your router....the router is the only device that might need PPPoE parameters set in order to communicate with the DSL Modem --- and these days, not all DSL Modems are using PPPoE.
D-Link has been in the past very interesting in how they comply with the overall 802.11g/b standards.....some of their default settings can cause issues for the Macintosh WiFi cards because Apple has implemented the standards in a standard way while D-Link chose to implement them such that they caused the least interference for the way that Windows is implemented......which is not quite to standard.
On your router (using the html embedded control pages) you should be able to fine tune the wireless network performance parameters by hooking your computer to the wired LAN port(s) in the back of the router, turning off your Airport card and then checking the Network prefpane to ensure that your computer has an IP address assigned in the range of 192.168.0.xxx ----
Now open your browser and send it to http://192.168.0.1 then log into the control page with the default username - admin - and no password.
This should bring you to the built in control pages Home......check to see if your router has an Advanced tab and if so, select it, then select the Performance button ------ this should be where you can fine tune the wireless network parameters that D-Link has set to their choice for defaults.
The setting that I seem to recall causing the most issues for Macintosh wireless networking in the past was the length of the Preamble ---- I believe that the choice that should work best is the Short Preamble......
The other setting that would best be adjusted is the one that uses any proprietary accelleration techniques to "double" the speed. On a similar vintage DI-624 I had to disable the "Super G" mode in order to keep the wireless network robust for all clients.
I hope this rambling response helps get you back on track.
So in summary, I think your new MacBook CD2 wireless card should be just fine.......your big challenge is in fine tuning the performance parameters that D-Link chose for the DI-524 so that your router can work in a more standard mode and then your new laptop should hook up as advertized.
When you upgraded the firmware, did you make sure that you had the proper version for your revision model? The D-Link support site Firmware Update page lists several different revisions to that model.

  • "No internet access" error, but can connect to any webpage - Intel 6300

I've been experiencing a somewhat annoying error; it seems very hard to troubleshoot just based on the terminology ("no internet access" is a very popular search).
    I have a W520 with the intel 6300 nic.
The networking center says that I have "no internet access", and displays the dreaded yellow exclamation.  I have verified that the networking center is selecting the network I'm connected to (checked the SSID).
Strangely enough, I can connect to any website/download anything. It seems that after 15-20 minutes, the error will go away and it will finally acknowledge I have internet access. I have tripled verified all the settings, everything seems to check out fine (DNS, DG, IP, etc..). There are no conflicts on the network.
It's not like the error inhibits anything, but it's annoying when you're trying to troubleshoot network errors.
    Anyone run into this before?
Thanks in advance for any help

    hey nfs924,
got some questions for you mate.
connecting via wireless or wired ?
If via wireless, is the wireless transmission from your device on encryption (wep/psk) or open?
have you tried the unit at a different location ? Was the result the same ?
While you gather the answers, head over to http://support.lenovo.com and crosscheck with the network card of your unit.
old version on your unit = update it please
    same version = reinstall.

Adobe v9 on W7 and office 2007. cannot create PDF from MS word using Adobe. But can from Excel, PPT and other MS office apps. Reinslalled Adobe, updated Office, and Adobe no help! Also I can create a pdf from the MS Word and it is using the Adobe 9. So one would think that's good. No it isn't when you need to combine different files to one big PDF document. Any suggetions? Thank you

Yes, I’m saying that I can in WORD use “Save As ADOBE pdf” but cannot in ADOBE create a pdf file from a WORD (.doc or .docx) document. While I can from other MS Office apps like Excel and PowerPoint.
I understand I can use “work around” and save doc in WORD as pdf then compile all files needed (xml, ppt, pdf) in the ADOBE v9. to one big pdf document. But that is not the point of this post.

  • TS1398 I have an original iPad 32 why can't I connect on my home wi-fi but can connect anywhere else. No problems at home connect with other iPads and MACs.

I have an original iPad 32 why can't I connect on my home wi-fi but can connect anywhere else? No problems at home connect with other iPads and MACs.

    Some things to try first:
    1. Turn Off your iPad. Then turn Off (disconnect power cord for 30 seconds or longer) the wireless router & then back On. Now boot your iPad. Hopefully it will see the WiFi.
    2. Go to Settings>Wi-Fi and turn Off. Then while at Settings>Wi-Fi, turn back On and chose a Network.
    3. Change the channel on your wireless router (Auto or Channel 6 is best). Instructions at http://macintoshhowto.com/advanced/how-to-get-a-good-range-on-your-wireless-netw ork.html
    4. Go into your router security settings and change from WEP to WPA with AES.
    5.  Renew IP Address: (especially if you are droping internet connection)
        •    Launch Settings app
        •    Tap on Wi-Fi
        •    Tap on the blue arrow of the Wi-Fi network that you connect to from the list
        •    In the window that opens, tap on the Renew Lease button

  • I keep on getting a warning to update my security and hit the update button but the "connecting to the update server" runs and runs but never connects."

I have repeated been confronted with a warning that my Firefox (vers. 5.0) needs to be updated for security reasons. I hit the button to launch the update and another window pops up with a "connecting the update server" message. I runs but never connects. I have gone through this exercise perhaps some 10 times or so with no update being successfully accomplished.

If there are problems with updating or with the permissions then easiest is to download the full version and trash the currently installed version to do a clean install of the new version.
Download a new copy of the Firefox program and save the DMG file to the desktop
    * Firefox 6.0.x: http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/all.html
    * Trash the current Firefox application to do a clean (re-)install
    * Install the new version that you have downloaded

  • Cannot connect to smb share - no error or time out, just keeps going

I searched the forum but could not find a solution.
We have a file server running on a Windows Server 2008. We have several MacBooks with snow leopard installed and the same config. Recently one stopped connecting to the shared drives. It does not provide any error. It just sits at the connecting dialog for as long as you leave it open with no progress. Does anyone know a solution to this? You can ping the file share box. It still works just fine on all other macs.

Try following the step I posted in:
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2140745&tstart=0
And let me know if that helps.
If it doesn't try connecting via IP to your SMB share
    Open Finder
Choose "Go" and connect to server
type sb://<ipaddress of the machine you are trying to get to/
And see if it comes up.

  • Can't connect to SMB share on Windows server from only ONE mac

I have over 20 macs on my network. All are running the same version of the OS. (10.4.9) Almost all of the macs can connect, using SMB, to our Windows 2000 file servers...but only ONE of them can not. When I try from that mac, I get the following error:
"The finder cannot complete the operation because some data in "smb://myservername" could not be read or written. (Error code -36)"
This same mac that has this issue can connect to any of our other Win2K file servers and all my other macs can connect to the server that this mac can't...which is very confusing for me because that tells me that the mac is fine and the Win2K server is fine as well...
    Any ideas?

-36 is a bit generic, but usually means the Windows® machine is denying because of bad Password. Have you tried deleting that particular reference/share in Keychain Access and redoing it?

  • Cannot save to SMB shares in Pages

This issue is actually occurring ONLY in the iWork applications, Pages, Keynote and Numbers.
User recently upgraded to Mavericks 10.9.1.  Has two SMB shares to smb://servername called "Public" and "Company Name".
The two locations are available in Finder as typical network shares in the left-hand pane.  You can navigate the Shares, open files, etc. without any issues.
However, if I create a new file in Pages and type some text into the new file and attempt to save it to "Public" or "Company Name", I'm presented with the following error:
"Untitled" couldn't be moved because you don't have permission to access "Public".  To view or change permissions, select the item in the Finder and choose File > Get Info.
When I do this, I see the information as "You have custom permissions" which typically indicates an NTFS or ACL related permissions that OSX can't quite read.
This same issue occurs whether i'm in Pages, Keynote or Numbers.
    Troubleshooting:
    1.  Checked and verified permissions were correct on Windows 2003 server hosting the SMB shares;
    2.  Created new file in TextEdit and attempted to save it to "Public" and "Company Name".  File save was successful.
    3.  Created new user on machine and logged in and performed steps above with Pages, Keynote and Numbers.  Ran into the exact same error.
    4.  Disconnected the shares and reconnected to the server using domain administrator account.  Same issues occur regardless ONLY in the iWorks applications.  Permissions are fine for navigating location, opening files and saving in any application outside of iWorks.
For now, I have the user performing the following steps:
    1. Create new document in Pages, Keynote or Numbers.  Edit the document.  Save it to the local drive in Documents\Need to Save
    2. Within Finder, user goes to Documents\Need to Save and drags the files that need to be on the network to the appropriate location, "Public" or "Company Name".
I'm almost thinking I need to remove and reinstall the iWork suite applications.  However, I don't want to perform that step without checking here.
Any thoughts or ideas are appreciated.  Thank you!

    Peter,
In working with the client, we did find that we could create new documents in the various iWork '09 applications and save them to the SMB shares without any issues.  However, since 5.0 Pages, for now, is installed, all applications have been created in 5.0.1, which is the current version on the App Store, and therefore, cannot be opened in Pages '09.  When we open Pages '09, we're prompted to upgrade to Pages 5.0.  Therefore, we look to still have the issue in saving to SMB shares through the iWorks applications regardless.  Especially since the client cannot access any of the current documents in iWorks '09 applications as they were created in the newer application.
Any assistance on this would be greatly appreciated.  Thank you!
    Jeff
