I use this commnand and got following error.

This means you have not been able to locate the 'jar' command on your local path:
( echo $PATH ).
The solution is to locate the full path to a jar command. These are likely to be in a java sdk bin directory; if you have one on your machine. You should then be able to work by adding that directory to your path or perhaps specifying the full path to the jar file.
Some other utilities are able to do this also: in checking my memory on this i seen the following thread on java coderanch: http://www.coderanch.com/t/91536/java/edit-war-file-JSP

    I try to solve the problem by changing the zip file creation code to
    +String[] filenames = new String[]{"MyDirectory" + "/" + "MyFile.txt"};+
    But, is this an eligible solution, by hard-coded the seperator? Will it work under Mac OS? (I do not have a Mac to try out)

    Your solution lies in the File.separator constant; this constant will contain the path separator that is used by the operating system. No need to hardcode one, Java already has it.
    edit: when it comes to paths by the way, I have the bad habit of always using the front slash ( / ). This will also work under Windows and has the added benefit of not needing to be escaped.

    Mona,
    You have to keep in mind that virtual URL (like servlet context) does not always directly match paths on disk. As you can see http://hostname:7778/j2ee/ maps to C:\Infra10_1_2\j2ee\home\default-web-app. home is the name of the oc4j server. Create another oc4j server and see where its top directory is created.
    About your questions:
    1. Use the Application Server Control "Deploy Web App", like you tried before, but...
    2. It does not work because you have archived the whole directory for oc4j.
    Instead create a directory outside of the oracle home, with structure suggested by the Servlet Primer chapter:
    "Here is the structure of the WAR file for the examples in this chapter:
    EmpInfo.html
    WEB-INF/
    classes/
    HelloWorldServlet.class
    GetEmpInfo.class"
    Then cd to that directory and do
    jar cvf mywebapp.war .
    Deploy like you did before:
    Web Application: pick war file
    App Name: mywebapp
    Map to URL: /mona
    If succesful, check where files end up so you know both url paths and disk paths and how they fit together.

    So is context.xml actually overwriting the settings found in server.xml?I think so. The way I understand it is the the context.xml file saves you from having to edit server.xml. It is preferred for each web app to do its own config, rather than lumping them all together in server.xml.
    And what would be the best way to create the war file? IAt its heart, a WAR is just a zip file with its contents laid out in according to the specification of a web application directory structure.
    So the simplest way to make a war file is to zip up your directory structure with a tool like winzip, and rename it to be myApp.war.
    Regarding ant, I would recommend you take a look through [url http://jakarta.apache.org/tomcat/tomcat-4.1-doc/appdev/index.html
    ]this tutorial. It explains the basics of website layout, configuration and deployment.
    On [url http://jakarta.apache.org/tomcat/tomcat-4.1-doc/appdev/source.html] this page  in particular, it includes a link to a basic ant file that you can use as a starting point.

  • Cannot extract Zip file with Winzip after zipping with java.util.zip

    Hi all,
    I write a class for zip and unzip the text files together which can be zip and unzip successfully with Java platform. However, I cannot extract the zip file with Winzip or even WinRAR after zipping with Java platform.

    Anyway, thanks for information sharing~
    The message is:
    Cannot open file: it does not appear to be a valid archive.
    If you downloaded this file, try downloading the file again.
    The problem may be here:
    if (fos != null)
    fos.close() ;
    if (bos != null)
    bos.close();
    if (zos != null)
    zos.close();
    if (file != null)
    file = null ;
    The fos is closed before bos so the last buffer is not
    saved.
    zos.close() is enough.

  • Manually extract WAR file?

    I have a completed JSP/servlet website that I'm trying to deploy on a webhosting site but I'm having some problems. The root directory is apparantly /html and then there's a /web-inf folder in that that containts a /classes and /lib folder. I've tried placing the war file in the /html and the /web-inf folder and having them restart tomcat, but it won't automatically uncompress the war file. I don't have access to any of the server configuration files. Is there a line of code I can use to telnet in and manually extract the war file?

    Easy enough,
    *.jar, *.war, and *.ear files are really zip files. What you can do is use the jar command "jar -xf file.jar" since your extention is war you might want to do "mv blah.war blah.jar". I am not sure if jar will spit errors cause of the extention. So just rename the war file if it does.
    You can also do "mv blah.war blah.zip" followed by "unzip blah.zip"
    I hope this helps.

  • Cannot redploy WAR files on Oracle 10g Application Server 9.0.4

    Hello,
    I may be missing something obvious, but how do I redploy .WAR files using the 10g Enterprise Manager? It has an option to Deploy WAR files, but not Redeploy them.
    If this is not possible, could someone tell me how to create an EAR file manually from the command line, or point to a URL with some instructions? I do not always have access to a GUI when creating the .WAR files, so I cannot use JDeveloper nor X-WIndow based UNIX applications.
    Thanks for any advice you can offer.

    Just use the same "Deploy" option. If there is a previous deployment, It will be automatically removed. In another word, the "Deploy" option is also the "Redeploy" option. Isn't it simple? The same can be said with an EAR file.

  • Extract WAR file while deploying

    hi
    Is there any way or option which we need to give in deployment descripter to
    extract the war file while deploying.
    Any one can suggest me how to proceed in this aspact.
    Thanks and Regards

    Anand,
    Can you give a context for this question? Are you packaging your J2EE modules
    into an ear file and need to extract the war file? What is the use case for
    the scenario you are describing?

              Not quite sure what you are asking. Are you saying to extract the files
              inside the WAR file during deployment? To do deployment, either with
              packaged or exploited view deployment only.

  • Cannot extract files

    Hi ive been looking on this website for help trying to extract files on my mac and i've come across answers like downloading stuffit or unarchiever and these are both not working.
    When i download a file usually ending with .exe my mac says it cannot extract this file then even on unarchiever i have every type of file selected for it to open it says that the contents of my file cannot be extracted with this program what is going on can anyone help me

    As cheonweb says they are Windows only.
    Why are you downloading .exe files, are you downloading Applications that you want to use on the Mac? If you are and you are a new Mac user, I suggest you check out Apples App store, all those should work with your Mac. Occasionally you need to run a Windows only application but that is a different problem and solution.

  • Deploying war files on iplanet web server 6.0

    Hello All,
    I tried to deploy an war file on iplanet web server 6.0 using both command line wdeploy and iplanet webserver browser based admin tool. Both the times it did say successfully deployed. I checked the WEB-INF files and it does contain all class files..But the problem is when I try to post a form to one of the class files the error log says as if it cannot find the class file.(I tried the sample app HelloWorld supplied by vendor)

    Hello,
    I got few steps to deploy the WAR file, if you followed the same steps and got the error then ignore this else try with this steps.
    a) Set your environment variable IWS_SERVER_HOME to your server_root directory.
    b) Add the server_root/bin/https/httpsadmin/bin directory to your classpath.
    c) Configure your virtual server for web applications.
    From the Server Manager page, select the VirtualServerClass tab, select a Class, and click the Manage button.
    Select a Virtual Server and go to the Java Web Apps Settings page for that virtual server. Make sure that the virtual server has Web Apps State turned On, and web-apps.xml is the name of Web Apps File.
    To extract the sample WAR file HelloWorld.war in server_root/plugins/servlets/examples/web-apps/HelloWorld, use the wdeploy command as follows:
    wdeploy deploy -u /hello -i server.iplanet.com -v testvs -d
    /iws60/https-server.mydomain.com/testvs/web-apps/hello
    /iws60/plugins/servlets/examples/web-apps/HelloWorld/HelloWorld.war
    The syntax for the command is as follows:
    wdeploy deploy -u uri_path -i instance -v vs_id [-d directory] war_file
    uri_path Specify the URI prefix (a path to access the web application from the browser).
    instance Specify the server instance name. (Note: Do not include "https" in the front.)
    vs_id Specify the Virtual Server name as it appears on the Manage Virtual Servers page.
    directory Specify a directory to extract WAR files. If this directory doesn't exist already, it will be created for you now.
    war_file Specify the name of the WAR file.
    If the WAR file is extracted successfully, the message "web application deploy successful" appears at the command line.
    For verification, go to the /iws60/https-server.iplanet.com/testvs/web-apps/hello directory. It should have the following contents:
    colors
    index.jsp
    META-INF
    WEB-INF/
    web.xml
    /classes/
    HelloWorldServlet.class
    HelloWorldServlet.java
    SnoopServlet.class
    SnoopServlet.java
    In the server_instance/config directory, the web-apps.xml file should have the following entry:
    <vs>
    <web-app uri="/hello"
    dir="/iws60/https-server.iplanet.com/testvs/web-apps/hello"/>
    </vs>
    Restart the server instance from the command line or go to the admin GUI and apply configuration changes to the server instance.
    Now when you access the webserver instance in your browser, the Error log of that server instance will record successful initialization of the web application environment(web-apps.xml) for the virtual server(vs name). You can access the web application from a browser as follows:
    http://server.Mydomain.com:80/hello/index.jsp
    or:
    http://server.Mydomain.com/hello/
    The syntax is as follows:
    http://vs_urlhost[:vs_port]/uri_path/[index_page]
    Thanks

    Hi,
    1] Remove following from server.xml
    <Context path="/SEA" docBase="SEA" debug="0"/>
    2] Paste SEA.WAR (test WAR file) into /webapps of TOMCAT
    3] Start Tomcat Server - This will create SEA folder under webapps
    4] Stop server.
    5] Add following to server.xml
    <Context path="/SEA" docBase="SEA" debug="0"/>
    6] Start Tomcat Server
    7] Access the URL.
    This will work. Somehow Tomcat does not extract war file contents which are mentioned in server.xml.
    I have Apache Tomcat 4.0.3 and faced this problem. The above solution works for it.
    Regards,

    hi.

    I checked the server.xml and put:

    I restarted TOMCAT and tried to execute the file:
         http://localhost:8080/SEA/index.jsp
    But I got error message:
    Apache Tomcat/4.0.3 - HTTP Status 404 -
    /SEA/index.jsp
    What was happenning?
    Anyone can help me?
