Cannot get external display to show image

Hi, I've just bought a 13" MBP and I'm new to the Apple forums so I apologise if there is already a thread for this (I haven't seen one so far).
I bought the MBP from my local Apple Store along with a case and a mini-DVI to VGA adapter to connect the MBP to my 20" Samsung 2032MW TV/monitor. That night I connected the two and they worked fine (plug and play), however two days later I tried again and my Samsung screen stays black and goes to standby. I have performed a self check on the monitor and there are no issues there so I presume there is an issue with settings on the MBP. Sorry! Yes I've been into the Display settings and tried Detect Displays and Gather Windows.

I am using wunderlust-brown content slideshow. I cannot get the content to show in IE 8. The picture shows but no content. I narrowed down the problem to a missing CSS attribute - .WLBSlideShow .article
If I add .article to the end of the .story attribute (.WLBSlideShow .story .article) then I get content in IE 8 but the page no longer works properly in Firefox or Chrome.
I want to know what CSS code is supposed to be in this file for the .article attribute. It is a simple problem and I hope I can get a resolution quickly.

Cannot get external procedural call in Oracle RAC Environment

I'll guess that you've opened a page layout template which does not have a text layer, therefore no cursor. You'll need to add text boxes or shapes to type in. If you just want to write a letter or similar, close the current document & then choose a blank document from the word processing section of the template chooser.

TS3999 I have a new imac and cannot get my ical to show up on the new imac via icloud. Every time i go to system preferences and activate the calender it freezes. I have restarted the computer mutiple times.

How to get External HD to show up in Windows 7?

So I have a 3tb WD harddrive, and also currently have bootcamp setup and running Windows 7 in addition to Mountain Lion. I have the WD harddrive partioned, one part (2.75tb) is Mac OS journaled, and 250gb is FAT32. However, when i go into windows, I cannot view the harddrive, its recognized in devices in control panel, but doesnt show up in My computer. Both partitions show up on mountain lion. How do i get the FAT32 partition to be accessible in windows??? as I am short for internal harddrive space. I am using a Macbook Pro with Retina Display. Thanks!

probably, you should elaborate your question a little..
as far as I understand your Q , you try to IMPORT from an ext. HDD.. this is NOT be done via the Event-Browser, but by the 'Import Movie' command under 'File' ..
the Event Browser offers only files, which are allready imported into iM08/into any Event..

Disconnect+reconnect external display = washed out image

hi guys
I need some expert help on this. Using a Dell E178 WFP external display on my 2010 Macbook Pro via mini-DVI-to-VGA adapter. This display has no EDID it seems so I use SwitchResX to create the necessary resolution override (1440x900). SwitchResX has nothing such as daemons or helpers installed on top, so this boils down to graphics drivers.
My problem: When I reboot the machine, the display has the necessary brightness, contrast, and colour balance. If I unplug the display, wait a sec, then plug it back in, the image comes up very bright and washed out, and I can't get a "true" black out of the display.
What this isn't: I have a ColorSync profile, and make sure it is successfullly loaded, i.e. I go through the trouble of opening up system preferences>displays>color to make sure it reloads. This is not a ColorSync problem. It is not the 2.2 vs 1.8 gamma problem either. Ctrl+shift+eject does not fix it. Creating a new colour profile does not fix it either. The usual SMC, permissions, safe boot, etc tricks don't work either.
Apple engineers have sent me a copy of TimingSnoop but were baffled by the display having a "fake" EDID (when run without SwitchResX TS detects no EDID at all). Since I refused to roll back my entire system to 10.6.4 or uninstall SwitchResX (it does not interfere??) they closed the bug stating "insufficient information".
10.6.4 did not have this problem, and my hardware is perfectly fine.
Rolling back the graphics to 10.6.4 fixes this issue (but creates other issues)
I'm looking for information on this. Has anyone had the same happen? Is it confined to sans-EDID displays?
Have googled a lot but I'm running out of search terms... Anything could be of help?

Again, this is not the gamma problem that's fixed by just opening the display preferences and resetting the colour profile.
This seems to be somehow related to the display's EDID and the video adapter (Nvidia) not resetting properly when first unplugged and then plugged back in. My support request with Apple is more than a year old in total now and replies have been trickling but all of them add little (if anything at all) to a fix.
My particular problem is finding these "a lot of" people who are experiencing this problem. Everyone I've seen so far talks about the gamma/colours problem, never about the brightness and reboot. So yours is the first instance of someone having exactly the same problem. Hopefully we can find more people? Do you know where I should be looking?
Another idea I've had is to possibly talk to the OSX86 community? If Apple are not interesting in issuing a fix for this, maybe someone else has done some work? After reviewing Apple's code (at least that part which is made public) I'm pretty convinced this is in Nvidia's territory, and that gives me very little hope..
I'm interested to know if this has been fixed on Lion at all..? Ideas?

I have reset this firefox daily... it works for a few hours, then will not open a website for 15 mins, and I cannot get emails addresses to show up when sending

This new updated firefox is awful.. I cannot get websites to open for about 10-15 mins it keeps showing S1 Yimg.com ans s.ytimg, and says shockwave plug in is bad, and all other kinds of crap..
The connection was reset.. I got this msg below and had to reopen this page in another window, and reload it to be able to write on this now... and my network connection is working xlnt, and there is no firewall blocking firefox...

I never had this until I got all these new automatic updates with this new firefox.. I did a system restore, which helped for 1 day, and I have had to reset firefox daily to use it.. And now it took 10 mins to open this page, and then I had to reload this page twice to write this..
I've used firefox for years, and never never had any problems with it. And I see alot of similiar complaints like mine on this forum now..

I uninstalled all the old flash players and installed the flash player v16.0.0.235 from the Adobe website posted.
And Firefox is still the same. It takes forever to web search, It takes a long time to get on Youtube, and a longer time now to open a video..
It's actual worse since I upgraded to the newer flash player.
I'll do one more fifefox reset (this is the 8th one in a week)
and it works for a few hrs, and goes back to the slowww way of working...
Many of my friends I talked to about this, told me to switch over to Chrome like they had to do..
I guess that's the only alternative now..

Broken LCD - Can not get external Display

My screen is no longer good so im trying to connect a external display.
Been trying for hours trying to get the external display to work of boot.
Ive tryed everything changing 2 sets of hd cables and svga cables. The funcion key.
The Laptop does reconize the display but seems to go into powersave mode or something.
The only way i can get the external display to work is if i pull the battery and wait a bit then power
up the display will work with a notice on the screen that cmos will be reset to defaults then restarts
and back to where i was again... Im thinking it something in the bios thats causing this.

My external display is showing up as a second desktop after I unplug.

I was using an external display on my macbook pro. I unplugged the display and noticed I can swipe with four fingers to the display on my macbook pro after the external display is disconnected. It seems like the computer is going to be working extra hard for no reason.
What am I doing wrong?

Desktop on external display not showing correctly

hi,
we have just purchased a macbook and the required leads to connect it to the TV (sony Bravia) this has worked correctly(the macbook detects the TV) and we are able to see the mac workspace on the tv both in mirror mode and extend desktop mode.
However when we view the desktop on the tv it is almost like the desktop is too big for the tv display area so we cannot see the tool bar at the top at all. This happens regardless of the resolution we choose.
the macbook is connected via the mini DVI to a HDMI connection. the laptop seems to be happy running in 1920x1080 on the TV. it is just cutting off the tool bar
any ideas will be greatly received.

I also have the same problem, it occurs with all resolutions, from 1080p on down. If I use the extended desktop on the tv it still doesn't quite show all of the background image. The tv I am using is a 26" RCA HDTV, with the mini-dp to dvi connector, then dvi to hdmi adaptor, then hdmi to the tv. If I use the mini-dp to vga then vga to the tv everything looks the way it is supposed to, but I don't get 1080 resoulution. On the tv, when I hook up through the hdmi cable, I can't change the screen geometry as that option is only available to the pc connection(vga), it is grayed out under hdmi. With either connection I don't have any screen geometry settings available under system preferences. If anyone can help with this, it would be greatly appreciated.

Worst webbrowser in the history of web browsers. I cannot get FF to load any images. I have tried everything. Help or no longer using this browser.

FF just opens a black text type of webpage. Just Fing horrible. Everyone says to use you, but it's just a nightmare. Shitty. Sorry, all I seem to do Is F with browsers and anything related to FF. Getting external monitor to show 16:9 (widescreen)

i have a 37" LCD monitor (ACER) hooked up with VGA cable from my iMac. on the second display, my desktop background picture shows up as a widescreen image, the same as on the iMac screen. but if i drag anything over to it, the item/application appears stretched. when i mirror the two, it turns my iMac display into a 4:3 image. basically, my LCD is only receiving a 4:3 signal, not a 16:9. ideally, my LCD is 1920x1080 resolution, but it says "out of range" when i try it. any ideas whether its the VGA vs. DVI/HDMI? or is it a setting in the computer?

It's not set in FCP... use the Pref Panel in System Preferences

Cannot resume external display/monitor after sleep

Hi,
I am using the latest MBPr with yosemite OS. I connect to second display using the thunderbolt to VGA adapter. After returning from sleep stage, the external monitor will not display anything. It just say no signal from my MBPr. I need to disconnect the cable and reconnect it back to have the signal back normal. This never happen in maverick.
Pls help.

External display not showing calls

All of the sudden last week my phone stopped displaying who was calling. It just vibrates and when I open the phone to see who it was, it would pick-up the call automatically. I figured out how to switch that, but would prefer to just fix it so I can see who's calling without opening the phone. Any ideas?
Also, how come when I open emails on my desktop, it doesn't show them as read on my blackberry?

For your first issue:
Anytime random strange behaviors creep in, the first thing to do is a battery pop reboot. With power ON, remove the back cover and pull out the battery. Wait about a minute then replace the battery and cover. Power up and wait patiently through the long reboot -- ~5 minutes. See if things have returned to good operation. Like all computing devices, BB's suffer from memory leaks and such...with a hard reboot being the best cure.
For the second issue -- please tell us what email service this is (e.g., GMail, Yahoo, work via BES, work via OWA/BIS, desktop redirected email, etc.).
