Cannot install creator-2_1-linux-ml.bin
This is the scenario:
Hardware:
P IV, 3 GHz, HT enabled, 4 GB RAM DDR 1, DD SATA.
Software:
Linux Fedora Core 5, I've made "yum update" so I suppouse that everyting it's updated by now.
J2SDK:
jdk-1_5_0_06-linux-1586.rpm
I've setup JAVA_HOME so if i type "java -version" responds wtih the appropiate string: java version "1.5.0_06"
Java(TM) 2 Run Time Environment, Standard Edition (build 1.5.0_06-b05)
I've installed succesfully Java Studio Enterprise 8 and seams to work fine, just did a new jsp and click on run, starts the web browser (mozilla) and appears the adequate page.
But when I try to install creator-2_1-linux-ml.bin the installer responds:
"This application requires a Java Run Time Environment (JRE) to run. Searching for one on your computer was not successful. Please use the command line switch -is:javahome to specify a valid JRE. For more help use the option -is:help."
And that's all.
With or with out the switch it still not working.
Weird!!!, why is Java Studio Enterprise Working any way?
Am I using the adequate jdk?
Doesn't have the rpm package a jre bundled, why don't the package use their own jre?
I almost forgot, I uninstall all the java packages on my sistem an only reinstale the refered rpm, i hope all the other apps still work.
Does the following thread help?

Error installing jmf-2_1_1e-linux-i586.bin
h3. Hello,
h3.
I'm trying to install jmf-2_1_1e-linux-i586.bin on a Linux(centos 5.1) system. I get the results at the end of this post after accepting the license agreement. I haven't found anything on the web or the bug database that has been helpful. I'm really at my wits end and could use a helping hand.

I guess, you can find the solution to your problem here:
It works well on Ubuntu, but since the error on Ubuntu looks exactly the same as on Centos, I think it should work for you as well.

Cannot install JMF under Linux Mandrake 10
I simply cannot install JMF under the Mandrake 10 Official Linux distribution. I downloaded the jmf-2_1_1e-linux-i586.bin file and tried to execute it as root. It unzipped some files then showed me an error message about AWT and GTK+. I found a hack consisting of modifying the .bin file to have the PATH variable point to SUN JDK, the error does not show up, but the installation still does not work. In fact, the installation works, but the Diagnostics applet keeps telling me than class files are not present. My Mozilla 1.6 Java plugin is working and displaying the applet. My JMF lib directory does not contain sound.jar, such jmf.jar. I set the CLASSPATH and LD_LIBRARY_PATH according to the readme.html file. I would like to know if it is a compatibility problem with Mandrake 10, the 2.6 kernel or if JMF just DO NO work under Linux. In the latter case, JMF is a violation to the Java portability philosophy and I would never use it on my own initiative, just if I were asked to.
After the files are unzipped, I have the following warning and error messages.
Warning:
Name: HorScrollBar
Class: XmScrollBar
The specified scrollbar value is greater than the maximum
scrollbar value minus the scrollbar slider size.

Done.
Even if I do not have a working video capture card (I have an ATI All-in-Wonder 128 but it is not working under 2.6 kernel), JMF should work because some people do not have a video capture card. I also tried with the cross-platform ZIP file, but this one does not contain sound.jar either and the Diagnostics applet keeps complaining about missing class files. I tried to search on the Web for solutions to this problem or for a way to change the CLASSPATH used by the Mozilla Java plug-in (if it uses a different CLASSPATH than the one from the environment variable), but nothing, nothing. Is there a distribution from which JMF would work better than Mandrake 10? Or can JMF work only under Microsoft Windows or Sun Solaris? I also tried Blackdown, but a README file directed me to the Sun's page, nothing to download here about JMF.well, your not the only one.
I have it working in Debian, and JDS.(JMF is setup automatically in JDS).(2.6.6 kernel)
I looked at the installation structure of JDS, and was able to duplicate what they did for Debian.
Maybe it will work for Mandrake two??
ok, all you have to do is copy or create soft links from your Mozilla directory, just like you did with the java plugin, and link to all the *.so files in JMF-2.1.1e/lib directory.
Should work.
I also read that not haveing the native files only matters if you are doing Capture. not play.
to get your ATI All-in-Wonder 128 to work, make sure you install the correct driver, and have it working under linux, then try it in JMSTUDIO -
Install Creator 2_1 Hung?!?!
Hi experts,
I had tried more 5 times of installing sunjava creator 2_1 in my local laptop. However, the installer hung at "Installing Application Server....". The progress bar shown 29%.
History:
Before I install, my previous creator was crashed due to unknown reason. It keeps prompting "Can't find java.exe". fooossss.... For so many years with Java, first time I encounterred this BUG....
Another word, creator couldn't run. While my project "is" halfway deploy. Therefore, I did a silly action, uninstall it then try to install it which I assumed it shold be ok since....., "platform Independent" to my little understanding for so many years with JAVA. This time really puzzle....It is nightmare because this only happen in "windows" platform development tools.
Anyone, pls help.... really urgent. How to install JCreator and make sure installation successfully.

I met a very curious problem. That was after I had install most of that product, the step went to Database Config Assistant and there were 4 steps but the process was always died at the step 3, that was Initiating Database in the processing of creating database. When I used ps -ef |grep oracle, I can always find a defunct process which was concern about oracle installation.
Further more, I found a installation guide which said it has to change the glib2.1.92 to glib2.1.3 on redhat and followed that steps, but it even cannot configure the database(step 1 of creating database).
Please help me.
yours sincerely.
The components of my PC as following:
CPU 400 MHZ
Memory 128MI guess the problem is not enough memory. You could try to install without the startup database and create the first database manually after the installation. You probably will see the database somehow gets created but it won't start for some errors.
I ran into similar situations on a Sun workstation. The trick is at least 256 MB of memory. Also, change the number of processes from default 150 (15 users, 10 processes for each) down to totally 5 processes. That will let the first database start easily. -
Error Message Installing Creator 2.1 on SUSE LINUX 9.1
Hi,
I'm new to LINUX, I tried to run the : creator-2_1-linux-ml.bin from the Root console and I got the following error message:
Xlib: connection to ":0.0" refused by server
Xlib: No protocol specified
The installer is unable to run in graphical mode. Try running the installer with the -console or -silent flag.
What can I do to fix this?
(any step by step procedure I could use?)
Thank you for your help,
Kind regards,I have managed to set DISPLAY:
DISPLAY is an environment variable. To set it you need to know what shell you're in (ksh, csh, bash, etc). You can do this to find out which shell you're in:
% echo $0
Then, if csh, do:
% setenv DISPLAY :0.0
If ksh or bash, do:
% export DISPLAY=:0.0
To verify:
% echo $DISPLAY
But I still have the same original Error message:
Xlib: connection to ":0.0" refused by server
Xlib: No protocol specified
The installer is unable to run in graphical mode. Try running the installer with the -console or -silent flag. -

[email protected]Hi,
I think that Feedbak forum is not the best place for this problem.
You should ask this into
=> Installation Forum : Database Installation
or
=> Linux Forum : Generic Linux
Anyway, you can find an install doc here :

There is somebody for helping me? Thank you!!!Have you tried to use an older version of the JDK? Maybe the rather old WTK 2.2 is not working with the latest JDK. I use it with JDK 5.0 (or 1.5.0). Perhaps you should give it a try.

cannot install oracle vpn on linux getting error kernel-sourcecode is needed by gds_cisco_vpn_client-2.0-llrhel4.i386.. i already installed kernel-devel still it get the same error. pls help.
1. kernel (.rpm)
2. kernel-devel (.rpm) - containing only Makefiles and some kernel header files
3. kernel source rpm (src.rpm) - source for rebuilding the kernel
4. kernel-sourcecode (.rpm) - source-tree for developing custom kernels
are four different packages.
If you are running OEL-4 (2.6.9 kernel) and you have an ULN account, you can download kernel-sourcecode rpm from ULN. There is no kernel-sourcecode for OEL-5 available on ULN site.

/usr/bin/java Permission denied after installing JDK on linux
Hi Guys,
I installed jdk-6u1-linux-i586-rpm.bin and I am getting strange errors like this:
1 When I simply run "java" in shell I get this:
/usr/bin/java: line 67: /tmp/javaf10273: Permission denied
/usr/bin/java: line 67: /tmp/javaf10273: Success
2. When I try to run an sh file I get this:
Warning: -ms128m not understood. Ignoring.
Warning: -mx128m not understood. Ignoring.
/usr/bin/java: line 67: /tmp/javae10796: Permission denied
/usr/bin/java: line 67: /tmp/javae10796: Success
I searched around and as I understand the linux package may have contained some older java version, and the comp is still trying to use that.
But these notes did not say how to uninstall that older version, orr what to do.
Can you please maybe point me somewhere?
Thanks,
GyuriThe RPM installer for the Sun JDK installs Java in /usr/java/jdk1.6.0_01. Just add /usr/java/jdk1.6.0_01/bin to your path before /usr/bin and it should be fine.
Additionally, there are no -ms and -mx parameters, those should be -Xms and -Xmx. -
Cannot install Oracle Linux on HP DC 7700 series PCs
Hi,
Im trying to install Oracle Linux on DC 7700 series and installation got hang up at the point where the "PCI Probing starts"
Please do provide a remady for this !
Nuwan1). Oracle 9i will be easily installed on these linux ?It will install easier on Oracle Linux than any other.
2). These linux distro is more or less same like other linux distros (eg: ubuntu, fedora) i means i do and install other utilities and software for other type of usages ??Since OEL is intended as an O/S for mostly servers, it may not include support for the very latest desktop / laptop hardware. It may not include consumer-type applications like MP3 players either.
3). I will not have to pay for any type of repo access or packages installation ???No, you are welcome to download, install and use OEL without any charge. You can get it from the edelivery.oracle.com site, or access it piecemeal at the http://public-yum.oracle.com web site.
If you want support or updated RPM packages since that distribution release, only then will you need to purchase a subscription.
So, use the original distribution RPM packages for free (edelivery or public-yum.oracle.com), only need paid subscription for updated RPM's or support.
4). I will be install other locally downloaded softwares ( .rpm, .sh. .bin) files like netbeans, amrok wiht avi and mp3 capabilities for playing video tutorials, open office, acrobat reader, flash, burning software, gimp, matlab and saas ??????In general, yes, you can install software intended for Red Hat Enterprise Linux or Oracle Enterprise Linux.
Check out the EPEL project (Extra Packages for Enterprise Linux) at http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/EPEL for an additional repository which may already have the extra software you are looking for. -

Hey I have a toshiba laptop and I cannot install firefox because the laptop runs android and there's only version for linux...and if u can tell me how to install adobe flash player too...Any advices??
This is a known problem, but we don't have a solution for it. If your device has the Toshiba Market app, you might be able to download a (possibly outdated) version of Firefox from there.
