Cannot log in after Leopard upgrade on G4 powermac, please help

Hi all,
After reading numerous threads, still I cannot find an answer!
I installed Leopard on my Powermac g4 1.25 DP but I am not able to log in. I can only select the user "other". I have tried resetting the root password and tried to login with username "root" and password "what i previously selected" , but it did not work. All it does all the time is "wiggle" and return to the login screen.
- Is it helpful to do a reinstall of Leopard using Archive and Install?? I read this solution works for iMacs.... Does it work for a Powermacs too??
- Is it helpful to also change the "user" password (and not only the System administrator (root) password)???
- Is it helpful to revert to Tiger and change my password there, before installing Leopard??
- When I reset a password in the utility menu on the install disk, I type and retype the password. Should I then click "reset" or "safe"???
I hope anyone here can solve my problem or at least answer a few of my questions. Thanks in advance!!

That sounds like you're starting up in Safe Mode every time. Try this:
Hold down the power button continuously till the machine powers down (should take between 5 and 10 seconds).
With the machine powered off, press the power button once briefly and let go, then immediately hold down both 'Command' and 'R' on the keyboard. Keep them held down until you see the grey cloth background, then you can let go.
You should end up in the Recovery Disk. In which case, as I mentioned in my previous post, choose 'Disk Utility' and repair disk.

In Lion and Mountain Lion the Home/Library folder is now invisible. To make it permanently visible enter the following in the Terminal application window: chflags nohidden ~/Library and press the Return key - 10.7: Un-hide the User Library folder.

Open Script Editor, copy and paste the script below into Script Editor's window and save as an application.

You can download an already compiled version with this link: iWeb Switch Domain.
Just launch the application, find and select the domain file in your Home/Library/Application Support/iWeb folder that you want to open and it will open with iWeb. It modifies the iWeb preference file each time it's launched so one can switch between domain files.
WARNING: iWeb Switch Domain will overwrite an existing Domain.sites2 file if you select to create a new domain in the same folder. So rename your domain files once they've been created to something other than the default name.

Cannot Log in after Leopard update

I updated to Leopard. The installation was completed, but now I click on my name to log in, enter my password, and then the log in screen appears again. I repeat the process and it is a continuous loop? The DVD is still in the system. I cannot log in? What can I do?

If your CD is still in the drive, you need to restart your computer while holding the "C" key. You may need to hold the key for a couple minutes. This will bring up the installation again. You will need to indicate that you want to Archive and Install under Options when you upload. On a side note, it is my understanding that you can hold your mouse button while restarting your computer and that will act as your eject button for the DVD drive if you can't get into your system. But, the archive and install does work!

Leopard upgrade, mail issue . . please help can't do business

So I backed up everything, including mail which meant taking the mail folder out of "users/vapur/library/mail" and tossing it on my external drive. I installed everything, moved the folder back, it brought everything in BUT . . i have 2 "on my mac" drop down things with the same folders in each. from what i can tell not duplicate messages just showing this "on my mac" and local folders twice and its driving me nuts.
any way to get this to stop showing to, and show just what it should?

Does this mean you installed Leopard via the Erase & Install method?
Did you also backup and transfer the Mail application preference file along with the Mail folder from Tiger? These two items should be moved together.
And just wondering, how does this particular problem prevent you from doing business?
Using the Finder, go to Home > Library > Mail.
Within the Mail folder, do you have two Mailboxes named folders - one with Mailboxes1 and the other Mailboxes or something similar since two folders and or files cannot have the same name within the same folder?
The Mailboxes folder contains all user created "On My Mac" location mailboxes stored locally on your hard drive along with the Outbox mailbox and all locally stored mailboxes for an IMAP account.
FYI - this is the Mail, Contents and Calendar discussions area for the iPhone but I should be able to help you with this.

Mac OS X 10.5: Unable to log in after an upgrade install fix does not work?

After running Software Update, I am unable to log in.
I found the following support article:

However, upon step 8 of the instructions, the following error appears:
delete Invalid Path
<dscl_cmd> DS Error: -14009 (eUnknownNodeName)
This is actually after an update (not an "upgrade"), so I'm not even sure these are the appropriate steps.
This is the second time that I have been unable to log in after an update. The first time, I attempted to reset the password with the installation DVD; however, this resulted in "No LDAP Master" errors and I installed Mac OS X 10.5 Leopard Server on a second internal drive and configured everything again. After setting everything up on the second install, I was going to reformat the first boot drive. Unfortunately, I'm just back to where I started after running the updates. I'm not sure if having two volumes with Mac OS X Server installed makes a difference in the instructions in the article mentioned above or not.
Another question: Is resetting the password with the installer DVD the same as using the Single User approach ("launchctl load /System/Library/LaunchDaemons/com.apple.DirectoryServices.plist", "ls /Users", then "dscl . -delete /Users/username AuthenticationAuthority")?
If so, I'll just do that; however, I am hoping that the Single User approach might somehow avoid "No LDAP Master" errors again.
Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.

After Leopard Upgrade, HDTV No Longer Displays Full Screen Apple TV??

Fairly recent Apple convert. iMac is directly connected to HDTV (Mini-DVI to HDMI) and A/V Receiver(Toslink). After Leopard upgrade, I now have a black border, on HDTV, no matter what resolution I choose (worked automatically and perfectly on Tiger). In System Preferences-Display, I am mirroring the displays and have Overscan turned off, because without it, the Menu Bar does not display at all. I am wondering if Apple is trying to force me to buy an Apple TV or if maybe I just need to be patient until the correct drivers come out? Apple told me they were referring my problem to the Engineering Department, but I am not holding my breath. Primary need is to view Photos and eventually rent movies, when HD is readily available. Any opinions, predictions or suggestions on resolving would be appreciated. Thanks!!

IMovie quits after leopard upgrade

iMovie'08 just does not open after leopard upgrade. It says application quit unexpectedly.
Any ideas what to do?

I too seem to have the same problem. Am running OS 10.5.6 and just will not stay open. Have tried to find the iMovie preference file and there's nothing there which could be the problem.

I have this problem too since ios6 upgrade.
4S iphone I can connect to itunes on 3g and download an app no problem.
I can connect to wifi no problem and use safari , facebook etc...I can connect to appstore but cannot install any apps over the wifi. 'Unable to conect to itunes'.....

I can’t load the software directly from HP because their only option is to use the software update option on the mac....frustrated!!! Help!!
I get blank pages that just run through the printer and a stats window that just 33% complete and goes no further.

I am going on the guess that an old driver is still installed...
Use Finder Go > go to folder, and go to /Library/Printers and delete the HP folder(s).
Reset the Printing System:
OS X Mavericks: Reset the printing system
Now, Add the printer in Print & Scan prefs.

Thanks for that. I did as suggested but when I tried again, it still did not work. Another com.apple.Grab.plist appeared in the Library.
