Cannot mount NTFS file system on USB drive

I plug in external disk via USB drive. I attempt to mount drive. I've downloaded several NTFS rpms.
I believe the issue is that I do not yet have the correct NTFS rpm. Any help?

I am trying to reinstall Windows (would not launch).  I removed the partition and started over.  I downloaded the support files and Windows 7 iso file to a USB drive.  However, when I try to run the setup.exe program I get the message "this program cannot be run in DOS mode."  I was successful before, what am I doing wrong this time?

    Try a restart.
If that doesn't fix the problem, shut down the computer and then power it back up. Immediately after hearing the startup chime, hold down the shift key and continue to hold it until the gray Apple icon and a progress bar appear. The boot up is significantly slower than normal. This will reset some caches, forces a directory check, and disables all startup and login items, among other things. If the system operates normally, there may be 3rd party applications which are causing a problem. Try deleting/disabling the third party applications after a restart by using the application unistaller. For each disable/delete, you will need to restart if you don't do them all at once.

  • USB Hardrive NTFS file system

Ive just changed from windows to mac. I am now having a bit of a problem. With my old windows computer i used a 180gb usb hardrive on NTFS file system. I can read the files on my new mac but i cant put anything on there. So i now realise i have to convert the hardrive to a mac file system. But i have lots of files on there and i assume reformating will wipe all the files??? Does anyone have any suggestions of what i can do? I also have one final question if and when i do format which is the best file system to use? and is there anyfile system other than FAT32 that will work with mac and windows?

The Mac can only read NTFS, not read.
My suggestion would be a) move the things to another already formatted external drive, b) get lots of DVD's and start making those archive copies that you've been putting off for so long, c) move the files onto the Mac temporarily and reformat the drive and then put them back on the external drive.
For maximum interoperability you'll want FAT32, if you are going to do that it'd probably be easier to offload the files onto your PC, reformat and then move them again.
I recently did this and I went through the files on the drive first and found that I could delete a lot of the files that I had on there so good luck.

  • Cannot emtpy trash containing a file from FAT32 USB drive

    Hi
I had copied a .app file from another mac over a network to my FAT32 USB drive. I then deleted the file from the USB drive per normal it went to trash. The problem is that i cannot empty this one file out of trash.
    What iv tried thus far:
    - I tried restarting.
    - I tried dragging it back onto the USB and deleting again.
    - I tried dragging it onto my desktop, upon which it asked for my system password, and then deleting again.
    - I tried putting it back on the USB drive, restarting in windows XP, and tried deleting in windows.
None of the above has worked. The file is Zero KB. Windows gave an error with something about the file is not completed...?
    Thanks in advance
    cheers

  • Is there a way to configure NTFS file system on an NSS 324 SmartStorage unit. So far I can setup ext 3 or ext 4 but no option for NTFS

Is there a way to configure NTFS file system on an NSS 324 SmartStorage unit. So far I can setup ext 3 or ext 4 but no option for NTFS. This unit should be joining a Windows Server 2008 R2 network and needs to be shared with all users. This unit will replace a File server running Win 2003 SP2.
Message was edited by: Hermann Koster
Thank you very much for your reply. The idea is to decommission the Windows file server which is running Windows Server 2003 SP2 operating system but is not running as a DC but just a member server. All this server is doing is providing file server services so my idea is to replace it with the NSS 324 box. My only concern is that when my NSS joins the domain all my users would be able to see and access network shares transparently, the same way they saw the former W2003 file server. After I transferred the data from File server I will use the same for NSS that was used for file server as well as same IP address and folders path as before.
    Any suggestions or advice?
Once again thank you very much for your reply.
    Cheers,

The internal HDDs must be formatted in either EXT3 or EXT4 file system because NSS uses Linux OS.  This is mainly because the RAM designed to fit with the customized Linux OS's size.
You can connect to an external HDD via a  USB or eSATA port. The external HDD's file system can be NTFS, FAT32, AFT or EXT3/4 to be recognized for read/write. You can connect a 2TB USB/eSATA drive connec to the NSS via USB port to format your HDD for NTFS, AFT, FAT32, or EXT3/4 partition.
You can join the NSS to a Windows domainr so all domain users to access NSS. You cannot replace the NSS for the Windows 2003 SP2 server. They are two different products and do different jobs. Windows server is features sets server while the NSS is the files/data server.
    Hope that helps!!

  • Can't open office files from my usb drive

    Dear forum
Sins a few weeks ago i am not able to open office file from my USB-drive.
However i can copy the file to the desktop and than i can open them.
I have this problme only (for as far i know) with office files.
    greetings Ypkoba

If the drive is NTFS format, the Mac can read, but not write thiose drives natively.
So the issue may be that the temp file and the output file cannot be created on the same drive.

  • How to create a system recovery USB drive?

My U845-S406 crashes every 15 minutes with a BSOD referencing iastor.sys.
Multiple diagnostics say it is all good.
Multiple virus softwares say it is clean.
It crashes even quicker in safe mode.
I have the latest Toshiba raid drivers, but updated to a more recent Intel set.  The error changes to iastora.sys, and goes back to iastor.sys when I switch back to the Toshiba drivers.
I booted holding down 0, and told it to restore; but it promptly crashes.
I made a W7 disk and tried to load it, but it promptly crashes.
As a last resort before throwing the computer out,  I want to create a system recovery USB drive, format the harddrive and try recovering from the USB; but I don't have the Toshiba Recovery Media Creator (or any Toshiba software at all...)  I downloaded a copy and ran it, but it says I don't have a HDD Recovery Area.
I know I have one because 1) I can access it by hold down 0, and 2)Partition Wizard showes it.
So, how can I create a system recover USB drive (or make Recovery Media Creator find the HDD recovery Area...)
Interestingly, the other day it spent 90 minutes installing a W7 update without a problem, but crashed immediately when done.  Maybe that means something.

So the procedure in the section Creating recovery media (p. 53 in the User's Guide) doesn't work? Exactly where does it go wrong?

  • Portal on Unix cannot mount Windows File server

    Hi Experts,
We had installed a NW 7.0 portal onto HP-UNIX server and integrated it with MS AD server. Now, we are facing an issue that we cannot mount windows files server when we tried to configured it with TREX. Had anyone tried this function or it is the limitation? Is the following statement still correct or do we have workaround solutions?
"If you are using the Microsoft Active Directory Service, you can only integrate documents into a Windows portal. The combination of Microsoft Active Directory Service and a UNIX portal is not supported."
    Best Regards

    Hi Tom,
have a look at this link:
Your issue should work, but the prerequisite is for using the windows permissions:
"If you are using Microsoft Active Directory Service, you have to operate the Windows domain in mixed mode". If it is running in Native mode you cannot use the windows permissions. Nevertheless integrating documents into KM should work. The KM uses its own permissions instead.
    Best regards,
    Denis

    Hi,
    thanks for your answer.
Yes format displays the physical devices, but metadb -i only shows the internal disks of the netra 440, not the ones in the 3320. metadb -s dbvol -i doesnt show anything.
metaset which is supposed to show me the metadevices, says the program is not registered.
cat /etc/lvm/md.tab has the configuration but since the scsi can be seen, the devices aren't mounted.
    Any suggestions?
    Cheers
    Oscar

  • Automator to mount multiple ISO files on external USB drives

I have several ISO files on an external USB drive on a Mac mini. Double clicking on any of the ISO mounts it, one at a time.
I need to have an automator that mounts ALL ISO it can see on a given USB external drive. I have written an Apple script but that hangs up the Mac mini. I need help because I am not familiar with Applescript or Apple automator. I used Unix years ago, butg have a hard time with AppleScript.

Macs can't normally write to NTFS drives:
    http://discussions.apple.com/click.jspa?searchID=7426620&messageID=4582486
Your other problem sounds like another computer has the files open or application has the files open simultaneously. Try shutting down your Mac, and isolating your Mac from any network and try rebooting again in safe mode by holding the shift key at startup.
