  • SQL Developer Data Modeler - integration with subversion

I just discovered the release of SQL Developer Data modeler, and found this to be very interesting.
We are still using Oracle Designer for database design, but we are looking for a replacement (for several reasons).
    My question is quite simple:
Given that the modeler uses a filebased repository, and also given that we have several developers potentially working on a data-model at the same time, how does Data Modeler integrate with subversion for source control etc.?
Can the repository itself be under source control, and checked in/out directly from Data Modeler?
Or will only the output files be candidates for version/source control?
Let me admit right away that I have not read much of the data modeler docs, and I have also not downloaded/installed it (yet), but does anyone have pointers to docs on this , or general input/knowledge around it.
On a side note, I must say that it puzzles me that a company like Oracle, that delivers one of the best databases doesn't use its database engine to host the repository, but instead chooses to go for files (I assume xml) "scattered all over the place"....
Well, I guess they a have a reason for it..
    Anyway:
Sql Developer Data Modeler and Subversion anyone?
    Jens

    Hi Jens,
It's early days and the initial implementation is indeed file based. Though I'd say not xml files "all over the place", but in ordered folders. Yes, as a database company it does make sense that we'd have a repository for managing and versioning metadata. However the tool supports Oracle and other databases and many companies use open source version control tools, such as Subversion and so anyone using the Data Modeler today can use it with Subversion regardless of the database they are designing for.
We do plan to have a repository, but in the 6+ months of the early adopter program found that many of the early adopters were happy to place the files under source code control using Subversion and in so doing also managed the multi-user development.
Integrated Subversion support is planned for a future release.

    Hi,
the problem seems to be caused by an invalid query
selectobject (product) from Products product where product.PROD_ID = :prodId
    Should be
select object (product) from Products product where product.PROD_ID = :prodId
Please check the query you created in TopLink

  • ITunes cannot run....problem with sound

iTunes had been running on my PC. I've made no changes on my computer.
Now when trying to open iTunes, this message appears and iTunes will not run:
"iTunes cannot run because it has detected a problem with your audio configuration"
I checked the audio config and it seems fine. My drivers are up to date. I removed the "Soundmax Integrated Digital Audio" driver then allowed it to re-install on its own. Sound still seems to work fine but iTunes will not open.
Thanks in Advance for your assistance and ideas.
    John

that one is typically caused by a problem with your QuickTime. (iTunes uses QuickTime for audio and video playback.)
the following document may be of some assistance with that:

  • Data Modeler: Problems with importin from DDL and Designer

I have a few problems with importing models from Designer and DDL:
    1. Can I import spatial indexes from Designer or DDL file? An index does appear in the model but it doesn’t seem to be a spatial index. When trying to import from database, the index doesn’t appear in the model at all.
    2. Is it possible to import sdo_geometry data types from DDL file? I haven’t succeeded with it, instead the column's data type appears unknown.
    3. Sometimes import from DDL files (that are generated with DM) failed with nothing appearing to the model. I haven’t figured out why that happens. I didn’t receive any error message, the model just opened empty.
    4. DM doesn’t seem to recognize public synonym creation from DDL. View log gives the following message:
    <<<<< Not Recognized >>>>>
    CREATE PUBLIC SYNONYM TABLE1
    FOR TABLE1
    5. Sequences lose their properties when importing from Designer. They only have a name but but start with, increment by and min/max values are empty in DM. Importin from DDL works fine.
I’m using data modeler version 2.0.0 build 584

    Hi Alex,
There is newer version of Data Modeler (3.0 EA2) and it is free
You can download it from here

  • XML Parse issues when using Network Data Model LOD with Springframework 3

    Hello,
I am having issues with using using NDM in conjuction with Spring 3. The problem is that there is a dependency on the ConfigManager class in that it has to use Oracle's xml parser from xmlparserv2.jar, and this parser seems to have a history of problems with parsing Spring schemas.
    My setup is as follows:
    Spring Version: 3.0.1
Oracle: 11GR2 and corresponding spatial libraries
Note that when using the xerces parser, there is no issue here. It only while using Oracle's specific parser which appears to be hard-coded into the ConfigManager. Spring fortunately offers a workaround, where I can force it to use a specific parser when loading the spring configuration as follows:
-Djavax.xml.parsers.DocumentBuilderFactory=com.sun.org.apache.xerces.internal.jaxp.DocumentBuilderFactoryImpl But this is an extra deployment task we'd rather not have. Note that this issue has been brought up before in relation to OC4J. See the following link:
How to change the defaut xmlparser on OC4J Standalone 10.1.3.4 for Spring 3
My question is, is there any other way to configure LOD where it won't have the dependency on the oracle parser?
Also, fyi, here is the exception that is occurring as well as the header for my spring file.

I ran into this exact issue while trying to get hibernate and spring working with an oracle XMLType column, and found a better solution than to use JVM arguments as you mentioned.
    Why is it happening?
The xmlparserv2.jar uses the JAR Services API (Service Provider Mechanism) to change the default javax.xml classes used for the SAXParserFactory, DocumentBuilderFactory and TransformerFactory.
    How did it happen?
The javax.xml.parsers.FactoryFinder looks for custom implementations by checking for, in this order, environment variables, %JAVA_HOME%/lib/jaxp.properties, then for config files under META-INF/services on the classpath, before using the default implementations included with the JDK (com.sun.org.*).
Inside xmlparserv2.jar exists a META-INF/services directory, which the javax.xml.parsers.FactoryFinder class picks up and uses:
META-INF/services/javax.xml.parsers.DocumentBuilderFactory (which defines oracle.xml.jaxp.JXDocumentBuilderFactory as the default)
META-INF/services/javax.xml.parsers.SAXParserFactory (which defines oracle.xml.jaxp.JXSAXParserFactory as the default)
META-INF/services/javax.xml.transform.TransformerFactory (which defines oracle.xml.jaxp.JXSAXTransformerFactory as the default)
    Solution?
Switch all 3 back, otherwise you'll see weird errors.  javax.xml.parsers.* fix the visible errors, while the javax.xml.transform.* fixes more subtle XML parsing (in my case, with apache commons configuration reading/writing).
QUICK SOLUTION to solve the application server startup errors:
    JVM Arguments (not great)
To override the changes made by xmlparserv2.jar, add the following JVM properties to your application server startup arguments.  The java.xml.parsers.FactoryFinder logic will check environment variables first.
    -Djavax.xml.parsers.SAXParserFactory=com.sun.org.apache.xerces.internal.jaxp.SAXParserFactoryImpl -Djavax.xml.parsers.DocumentBuilderFactory=com.sun.org.apache.xerces.internal.jaxp.DocumentBuilderFactoryImpl -Djavax.xml.transform.TransformerFactory=com.sun.org.apache.xalan.internal.xsltc.trax.TransformerFactoryImpl
However, if you run test cases using @RunWith(SpringJUnit4ClassRunner.class) or similar, you will still experience the error.
BETTER SOLUTION to the application server startup errors AND test case errors:
Option 1: Use JVM arguments for the app server and @BeforeClass statements for your test cases.
    System.setProperty("javax.xml.parsers.DocumentBuilderFactory","com.sun.org.apache.xerces.internal.jaxp.DocumentBuilderFactoryImpl");
    System.setProperty("javax.xml.parsers.SAXParserFactory","com.sun.org.apache.xerces.internal.jaxp.SAXParserFactoryImpl");
    System.setProperty("javax.xml.transform.TransformerFactory","com.sun.org.apache.xalan.internal.xsltc.trax.TransformerFactoryImpl");
If you have a lot of test cases, this becomes painful.
Option 2: Create your own Service Provider definition files in the compile/runtime classpath for your project, which will override those included in xmlparserv2.jar.
In a maven spring project, override the xmlparserv2.jar settings by creating the following files in the %PROJECT_HOME%/src/main/resources directory:
%PROJECT_HOME%/src/main/resources/META-INF/services/javax.xml.parsers.DocumentBuilderFactory (which defines com.sun.org.apache.xerces.internal.jaxp.DocumentBuilderFactoryImpl as the default)
%PROJECT_HOME%/src/main/resources/META-INF/services/javax.xml.parsers.SAXParserFactory (which defines com.sun.org.apache.xerces.internal.jaxp.SAXParserFactoryImpl as the default)
%PROJECT_HOME%/src/main/resources/META-INF/services/javax.xml.transform.TransformerFactory (which defines com.sun.org.apache.xalan.internal.xsltc.trax.TransformerFactoryImpl as the default)
These files are referenced by both the application server (no JVM arguments required), and solves any unit test issues without requiring any code changes.
This is a snippet of my longer solution for how to get hibernate and spring to work with an oracle XMLType column, found on stackoverflow.

  • Latest PowerQuery issues with data load to data models built with older version + issue when query is changed

We have a tool built in excel + Powerquery version 2.18.3874.242 - 32 Bit (No PowerPivot) using data load to data model (not to workbook). There are data filters linked to excel cells, inserted in OData query before data is pulled.
The Excel tool uses organisational credentials to authenticate.
System config: Win 8.1, Office 2013 (32 bit)
The tool runs for all users as long as they do not upgrade to PowerQuery_2.20.3945.242 (32-bit).
Once upgraded users can no longer get the data to load to the Model. Data still loads to the Workbook but the model breaks down. Resetting load to data model erases all measures.
Here are the exact errors users get:
    1. [DataSource.Error] Cannot parse OData response result. Error: Unable to read data from the transport connection: An existing connection was forcibly closed by the remote host.
    2. The Data Model table could not be refreshed: There isn't enough memory to complete this action. Try using less data or closing other applications. To increase memory available, consider ......

    Hi Nitin,
Is this still an issue? If so, can you kindly provide the details that Hadeel has asked for?

  • Firefox is already running but is not responding - Cannot run Firefox on multiple machines with in a network (parent.lock)

Environment - Single File Server & 6 workstations.
I have a single generic user account/profile and log on to all 6 workstations at the same time (1 user, 1 password, 6 workstations).
I need to run firefox on all the workstations with the same user and user profile.
However, as soon as one user opens firefox all the others get the message "Firefox is already running but is not responding" and can not open the browser. No other workstations can open Firefox. I can only run 1 instance of Firefox in this scenario. How can I run it on all 6 with a single user account?
I have been back to the server and deleted the parent.lock file but it is recreated again as soon as someone open a firefox browser and the problem starts al over again.
Please - How can I get a single user with a single profile to run firefox on 6 workstations simultaneously?
    Thank You

hello timfarr, you cannot do that - many essential databases (like bookamrks, passwords etc.) in your profile are not designed to be accessed by different processes at the same time...

  • What version of Data Modeler comes with SQL Developer EA 3.1?

    Hi:
I've looked but can't find what version of Data Modeler is shipped with SQL Developer 3.1 EA1. Is it Data Modeler EA 3.1 or the production Data Modeler 3.0 version?
    Thanks,
    Doc

    Hi:
I ran an import and here's what the log showed...so it looks like SQL Developer EA 3.1 uses the production version of SQL Data Modeler...3.0.

  • Consumption of data model created using Screen Scraping

    Dear All,
I have created a GW Data Model for recording a standard SAP transaction and subsequently created its GW Consumption Model in SAP Netweaver Gateway. This will return a REST service. This REST service supports 'CRUD'
(CREATE,READ,UPDATE.DELETE) operations as per the documentation .While using this REST service I am facing two
    problems.
    Case 1:
I created a GW Comsumption Model by recording transaction 'TZ60' for READ operation, created QUERY operation
and 'TZ90' for UPDATE operation. I can use the READ operation successfully in Dot Net Application but how can I use
the UPDATE operation in Dot Net Application ?
    Case 2:
Can wev create Screen Scraping Data Model for complex transactions involving Multiple Screens/Tabstrips and ALVs.
Please reply to this thread as soon as possible.Thankyou.

    hi Chris
Before you might want to start refactoring a copy of what you already have, you could consider this ...

  • Open Toad Data Modeler diagram with SQL Data Modeler

hi, I've made a diagram with TOAD Data Modeler in Windows. Now I'm working with Linux, so I need a portable application to work with. Oracle SQL Data Modeler seems to be the solution to my problems, but I can't open/import my TOAD's diagrams into SQL Data Modeler.
Anyone knows how to do it?
    Thanks in advance,
    Neuquino

    Hi Neuquino,
there is no import from TOAD Data Modeler. You can generate DDL script with TOAD DM and import that script.

  • SQL Developer Data Modeling-- Creating Image

    Hi All,
I am trying to create JPG/BMP images in SQL Developer Data Modeling tool. My problem is as follows.
    Problem :-
I have more than 1000+ tables and i have to create single ER diagram for that. I tried to create but after making some ER diagrams its unable to create.
Could you please any one tell me how can i create ER diagram for the same ?
    Regards
    Shivraj

    Hello,
you can create sequences and triggers in Oracle physical model - you can find triggers under table node (physical model).
However it'll be better for you to do development of triggers in SQL Developer. After development of triggers is over you can put your triggers in data modeling physical model.
    Best regards,

  • I deinstalled accidently support parts for my itunes, went to use it , failed, diinstalled itunes and reinstalled it, now i get a message saying itunes cannot wokr because it was created with an older version. what can i do?

i accidentaly deinstalled support pieces to my itunes. went to use it and it failed. apple told me to deinstall the whole thing and re-install it. I did this but still it failed. when i go to open it it reads "the file I Tunes Library. It! cannot be revealed because it was created by a newer version on I tunes". help?

I backed up my iPhoto Library to an external drive even though it looked way to small to hold all my photos.  I have tried several times to open iPhoto whilst depressing the option and command keys but get the same message again:
"The photo library was created with an unreleased version of iphoto. Please quit and upgrade this photo library by opening it in iphoto 2 or iphoto 4"  Behind this, the little wheel is turning and it says "Loading Photos" (but it doesn't).
I've got to access these photos for a project deadline that's looming so any help would be really appreciated.

  • Data modeling , creating dimention

    hi ,
i have a relational DB in Oracle 11g ,i am going to make a data warehouse using OWB , i want to do data modeling , which tools i can use for data modeling ?
also i want to make dimention , how i can make it ?
    pls guid me urgent
    regards
    Padideh

Analytics Workspace Manager is the administration tool of the OLAP Server (MOLAP) from the Oracle Database.
You can build an Olap cube with it.
    http://www.oracle.com/technology/obe/11gr1_db/otn_all_db11gr1.html#olap
But you can also do it with OWB. And you can do with OWB all what you need to build a datawarehouse.
Try to go through the tutorials. It's the best way to learn.
If you have problem to define measure and fact (which is a big subject), the best way is that you buy this book :
    http://www.amazon.com/Data-Warehouse-Toolkit-Complete-Dimensional/dp/0471200247/ref=pd_sim_b_3
You will find on it all what you want with a clear language (It's the bible for modelling)
    Good luck
