Cannot sync ipod to vista

I am having 3 problems -
1. my ipod does not show as a device in itunes
2. the synch ipod selection in file is greyed out
3. the computer will not recognize my USB cable.
I have tried reloading 7.3, buying new USB cables, using different ports and also the reloading in the computer mgt USB section - it reads my USB driver as an unknown device and when I download it tells me it is all current. Then if I plug it back in, I get the 'doesn't recognize driver message'
Help - I'm not a techie and I've tried researching everything but can't figure this one out!

please help I jst bought my 30gb ipod and every time I try to sync music to it the msg comes cannot sync ipod. I cannot put on one song at a time but have to replace my whole library in the ipod to add one song.
thanx for your help in advance

    let's first try this document:
"Disk cannot be read from or written to" when syncing iPod or "Firmware update failure" error when updating or restoring iPod

  • Cannot sync iPod after hard drive crash

Hard drive crashed last week so reinstalled new from Dell. Data all backed up. Since new drive in cannot sync iPod. USB cable OK, iTunes "sees" iPod name and can download to iTunes but no sync. Do not get any kind of error msg that iPod registered on "another" computer (which it was). Still under warranty.

Try restoring the iPod in itunes. This should assure that it sync with the current computer it's hooked up to.

  • Cannot sync ipod with itunes after setting up new computer with newest version of itunes

Cannot sync ipod with itunes after setting up on new computer, only songs which tansferred were songs bought on new computer after set up, tried to sync songs and it deleted old songs from ipod.  How can I get them back on ipod??  They are showing in music library on itunes still.

If the iPod database gets corrupted, it will add files to "Other" instead of where they really belong.
Restoring the iPod will erase this database and recreate it.
And if I do this, won't I just have the same issue when my iPod is re-updated to the most recent version again?
No, it shouldn't. This is why you Restore the iPod. It erases the corrupt database.

  • Ipod software not working, so cannot sync ipod on 64-bit Vista

It took me a while to find the 64-bit version of iTunes (which is mentioned on this site but i couldn't find it, found it elsewhere).
So now i want to sync my ipod (i moved from a XP computer to this one, so I've synced before). On this entire site i could not find ipod software that was up to date, so I had to use my REALLY old software CD, which i doubted would work with iTunes 8. So i installed, rebooted, plugged in ipod, and it says my iPod software wasn't installed properly, and to reinstall iTunes. Bear in mind this is the 2006 iPod software.
So without the software i cannot sync my ipod. Installing iTunes with the cd (iPod + iTunes) will give me the 32-bit version of iTunes. What can i do?
btw i tried disk mode, didn't work, since the software wasn't installed.

Since I don't have Windows XP or Windows Vista 64, I didn't try to answer your question, and there apparently weren't any other users here with this issue. Since we are all doing this voluntarily I didn't realize there was any obligation to answer your question.
And if you are using a 64-bit browser and you download iTunes it will install the 64-bit version.

  • Cannot sync iPod with click wheel to iTunes...

I cannot sync my iPod with click wheel to my iTunes on Windows. I have already attempted the five R's, multiple times, including restoring my iPod three times, and updating my iTunes software. But when I plug my iPod in, it takes forever to be recognized by iTunes, and just sits there, whizzing and clicking, with the "Do Not Disconnect" message blinking. After awhile, iTunes will download a song or two from my library, then quit. I often get a message that says my iPod is "corrupted." Help! How can I get my iTunes library back on to my iPod?

I am having similar issues. I have received lots of advice, none of which work so far but there is lots to try here. Good luck!

  • Syncing iPod in Vista

I wish Apple would clearly address this issue on their support page. From what is written there, it seems as though iTunes IS compatible w/ Vista (aside from a few 'compatibility issues'). I've called Customer Support on several occasions and have been told, finally, that iTunes is NOT COMPATIBLE with Windows Vista. If this is the case, then please just say this on your support page and make it very clear that syncing iPod on a Vista-based machine is just not possible yet.
And is it just me, or is this issue taking Apple WAY too long to get resolved?? I would really love to get back to using (and updating, specifically) my iPod!

And its worse than that ... it seems its something to do with the memory management in the iTunes program and not the USB connection as I first suspected. Here was my issue... I could not sync more than about 1 gb of data to my Video iPod. Now when my big back log of podcasts is downloaded ... BSOD with the message KERNELSTACK_INPAGEERROR.

  • Cannot sync with Windows Vista and BB 7105t

I was using Windows XP and everything worked great. Now I have Vista and cannot sync. I open the BB Desktop Manager and it says my device is disconnected. I am plugged in to a USB port, tried two different ones and makes no difference. Thus when I go to Synchronize, the Sync or Configure PIM are not available.  Also when I just plug into my computer to charge, I get a message "USB charge current is not suffigient. . . . "  However, it does charge, just a little more slowly than with my XP computer.  Any suggestions?

Hi and welcome to the forums!
Here is what you need to do.
Use this procedure to cleanly uninstall the DM you have loaded:
    http://www.blackberry.com/btsc/search.do?cmd=displayKC&docType=kc&externalId=KB02206&sliceId=SAL_Pub...
    Go to here and download Desptop software 4.2.2 without Media manager;
    https://www.blackberry.com/Downloads/entry.do?code=A8BAA56554F96369AB93E4F3BB068C22
Cold boot the PC after de-install and :
    Install with these Vista condierations:
    1. Right-Click on Command Prompt in Start Menu and choose Run as Administrator
    2. Navigate to C:\Program Files\Research in Motion\Blackberry\IS71 Connectors\MS Outlook Connector by typing: c:\> cd program files\research in motion\blackberry\is71 connectors\ms outlook connector
    3. Then type in the command prompt, type: regsvr32 MsOutlookConnector.fil
    4. If the registration is successful, the following message displays:
    DllRegisterSErver in msoutlookconnector.fil succeeded.
    5. Close and open Blackberry Desktop Manager to perform the synchronization process again and Outlook will be in the list...
If you receive the error message DllRegisterServer failed with error code 0x80070005 - you do not have admin rights. So, it's important that you run command prompt as admin.
    http://sampath.wordpress.com/2008/03/04/installing-blackberry-desktop-software-on-vista/
Now go to your carriers blackberry software site, get the correct device OS and make sure the app loaded can find it.
Configure the DM and try to sync.

  • Cannot Sync Ipod Classic with Itunes 11

After installing Itunes 11, I cannot sync my Ipod Classic. It has worked perfectly up until this version. Here are the options I like:
    Open Itunes when... -- ON
    Sync only checked... -- OFF
Convert higher... ON (128) (I have a LOT of music I like to fit on this little ipod)
    Manually manage... -- OFF
    Enable Disk Use... -- OFF
I have tried restoring the ipod and resyncing everything, but that doesn't work eiter.
I also got some errors about not being able to copy some podcasts (like 100 of them) when I tried syncing after restoring, but I have seen that before and just ignored it and it still gets stuck.
It gets stuck around song 5, I've left it running for two days and still no progress. Even checking "On this iPod" shows me that no songs have sync'd.
    Help?
    Robb

Update:   More information and how I've temporarily solved this problem.  I installed the new iTunes 11 on two computers when it came out both of which have the same specs. One was an upgrade from most previous version of itunes, the other was a new install.  My idea was to move my library to my other laptop as the old one was running out of space.
I copied my iTunes library over to my other laptop, installed iTunes and started making adjustments like deleting smart playlists and turning off genius.  My thinking was to see if i could get itunes to run faster on my other laptop.  It did run alot faster with all the genius playlists btw.
I now have my music in two different locations; same everything minus some smart playlists.  Long story short, my identical playlists that where not syncing did sync from my original laptop. so there is something different between my two laptops that is causing the sync not to work, again my guess is converting tracks to acc. Maybe the upgraded itunes has files that my new install itunes does not which allow conversion of songs to ACC.
Good news is iTunes now allows you to have multiple locations without deleting your iPod so I can retransfer all my music on my old laptop and keep the library on my new laptop. At least until Apple comes up with a fix.
Good luck,  I'll drop more info if anything changes.

  • Cannot sync iPod nano 6th gen

I created playlists on my computer, dropped them onto my iPod nano 6th generation, and they appear on the left side of my computer screen.  When I disconnect the nano, the playlists are not on it. Problem seems reklated to not being able to sync. I get "unknown error"-cannot sync.

What is the full wording  of the error message you are receviving?
Is the playlist configured to sync to your iPod from under its Music configuration tab in iTunes or do you manually manage the iPod's contents?

  • Error (-50) CANNOT SYNC IPOD!

Hello, I have a 4 GB iPod mini. Everything was working fine BEFORE I upgraded to iTunes 7.1. Right after I did this, all of a sudden I cannot sync my mini. I get this message:
"The iPod cannot be synced. An unknown error has occured. (-50).
I am suprised, because I genereally don't have any problems with iTunes. I hope this is something that can be solved. Thanks.

Oh My~lanta! I am just about at my wit's end w/ this too!!! I'm experiencing the same problems although it seems like everyday I get a new error message!!!! My computer crashed back in December and ever since, my IPOD has not been the same. I thought it had something to do w/ the computer crashing but from what I read here, it seems it may be something w/ the latest version of ITunes and if so, why on earth has it not been fixed yet??!!! Today I have just about had it! My Ipod, even after rebooting, restoring, reinstalling won't even work at all and I get a message today that says there was a problem downloading the software and the requested resource was not found. All of this started when I tried to plug in my Ipod Mini to sync it to ITunes. It said IPOD cannot be synced, unknown error occurred (-48). I tried to restore it at that point and then I got the message that it could not be synced, Requested File could not be found. After a few days and trying this again, I got another message that said Disk could not be read from or written to, Corrupted & Not readable; IPOD connection status failed. Last night when I completely uninstalled and then reinstalled, it started to sync and appeared to be downloading most of my songs, well it got to 200 and then stopped, said it could not be synced and completely erased everything again. Today tried all over again as well and got a message on my computer saying Delayed Write Failed, unable to save data on file F. So then I reinstalled and rebooted and all that again and now I have a "coruppted Ipod" and can't even do anything with it! I'm at a loss and pretty upset that there is not a 1-800# that I can find to call and talk to somebody about this over the phone! Any help???!!! Please, I'm really freaking out about this!

  • Cannot sync Ipod

Yesterday my iPod touch seemed to get stuck at the backing up phase of syncing, so I stopped it. Next time  I connected the iPod I got unknown eror 6 and had to restore my iPod. It would not restore and in the end I managed to restore it on my old PC, so I can use it but everything is from last year.
Today when I try to sync with my new PC I get various errors:
The Ipod cannot be synced. An error occurred while writing to the device.
Attempting to copy to the disk iPod touch failed. An error occurred while reading from the device.
iTunes could not copy "song" to the iPod because the file is corrupt and could not be read. - I had this error several times, each time for a different file.
The iPod cannot be synced. The required disk cannot be found.
    Please help.

This may help with the readin prblem:
'Disk cannot be read from or written to' when syncing iPod or 'Firmware update failure' error when updating or restoring iPod
The last error is usually resolve by deleting yur iPod Photo Cache foldr.  For is location see:
iTunes: Photo sync creates iPod Photo Cache folder

  • Cannot sync iPod since updating to iTunes 7.1

My iPod is a 5th generation video model. I recently updated to iTunes 7.1 and when I first connected my iPod, it went to update the iPod software and then I got an error message "iPod cannot update - error (-48). Now, most of the time, iTunes doesn't even recognize when I plug in my iPod. I will try uninstalling and reinstalling my older version of iTunes, but I wondered if anyone else has run into this issue.

Clarification...it says iPod cannot sync - error (-48).
When I use the iPod Updater program it tells me my software is up to date.

  • Updated to 10.2.1.1 and cannot sync iPod

Updated iTunes to 10.2.1.1. Now, I cannot sync my iPod; in fact, iTunes does not even recognize that there is a device plugged in. I have done the Device Sync Test and it just says nothing found; no error number or anything. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
