Cannot sync mail rules

I have an iPhone 3G and use mobile me. The phone and my mac are all up to date. Everything syncs fine with my mac, contacts, mail, calender. The only thing that will not sync are some mails rules, even when the "sync mail rules, signatures" box is checked in the mobile my preferences. Anybody having a similar problem or know a solution?

The sync mail rules, signatures is for keeping mail rules and signatures synchronized with the Mail.app on multiple Macs.
This does not apply to the iPhone and the iPhone's mail client which does not support rules.

I have activated the .Mac "sync Mail Rules, Signatures and Smart Mailboxes".
But the Mail rules on my home and office Mac are not synced by iSync.
Everything else is synced fine (iCal etc.) Any suggestions ?

Welcome to Apple Discussions.
With the release of iSync 2 and Mac OS X 10.4, iSync no longer has anything at all to do with synchronizing .Mac data types like Mail Rules, Signatures and Smart Mailboxes. Actually, it never did have anything to do with those data types, because they were not available before the release of Mac OS X 10.4 almost a year ago.

Google account issue, cannot sync mails from one G...

Hi. Yesterday i found out that my nokia n9 cannot sync mails from my Gmail account and it is still asking me for password. I was resetting settings, cleaning phone to the factory, even i flashed my software again, and it still doesnt work. When i add an account it syncs with Gtalk succesfully, but cannot connect to Gmail. I was trying the 2 step authentication by Google, than closed any captcha problems with Google help. And nothing works for me. Tried to enter commands
"gconftool --recursive-unset /system/http_proxy
gconftool --recursive-unset /system/proxy
gconftool --recursive-unset /system/osso"
Tried to delete all accounts, reboot and add them again, or delere all accounts, than reset to factory, and add them again. Nothing helps to me.
Tried to make an backup, open it with computer and delete files inside some folders (forgot which), than backed it up. Still the same
Than i created one more account on Gmail, wrote to this adress, and added it to my phone. Than it worked, synced the mail which i've written. But it still doesnt work with my main account.
Is there any setting file which isnt cleared until reset/flash? Or where can i find it?

I'm pretty certain that I had the same problem as you but was able to find a fix. Basically, just delete the "/home/user/.qmf" folder and reboot. Below is a link to another forum with a more technically detailed explanation. Good luck!

Sync mail rules

Upgrading to Lion was not smooth on one machine. But I'm managing.
The current issue is that my mail rules are now independent. My set of rules on my Desktop and my Laptop don't sync, nor can I find a place to have them sync. As I did not upgrade the two machines at the same time (I had to find a few replacement programs for non-lion compatibility) they have some significant differences.
Short of overwriting one set with the other with the .plist file, any suggestions? iCloud does not seem to take on this issue.

I use Dropbox so have the following two aliases setup in .bashrc (actually, in .bashrc I source a bashrc that's on Dropbox so that it's the same everywhere, see further below...):
Rename these aliases to something that makes sense for you (see further below for the actual aliases):
cpmd (stands for 'copy mailRules to dropbox')
cpdm (stands for 'copy dropbox to mailRules')
I keep a template .bashrc file on Dropbox which I copy to all new macs:

. /etc/bashrc

# Source Dropbox definitions

And edit only the centralized bashrc in $HOME/Dropbox/bash/bashrc, which the above sources
Terminal.app opens a login shell, which reads .bash_profile instead of .bashrc, so you'll want to use a .bash_profile that sources .bashrc e.g.
mini:bash me$ cat $HOME/Dropbox/bash/template.bash_profile
[[ -s ~/.bashrc ]] && source ~/.bashrc
For each new Mac I use, simply copy the template files from Dropbox into my home directory:
cd $HOME
cp $HOME/Dropbox/bash/template.bashrc $HOME/.bashrc
cp $HOME/Dropbox/bash/template.bashrc $HOME/.bash_profile
Now, in $HOME/Dropbox/bash/bashrc, add the following aliases:
alias cpmd="cp $HOME/Library/Mail/V2/MailData/MessageRules.plist $HOME/Dropbox/MailRules/MessageRules.plist"
alias cpdm="cp $HOME/Dropbox/MailRules/MessageRules.plist $HOME/Library/Mail/V2/MailData/MessageRules.plist"
To copy Mail's rules to Dropbox, just type "cpmd" in Terminal.
To copy the rules from Dropbox to the local Mac's Mail folder, first quit Mail, then type "cpdm" in terminal.
There are ways to automate this, or to symlink things, but I think that's dangerous since there's no file locking so instances of Mail.app on different macs could overwrite each others changes.
ETA to add caveat wrt to trying to automate this...

Why does iCloud not sync mail rules?

This seems like a no brainer. When I view my email on my Iphone, I see all my Spam, which would already be dispatched to the Junk box on my desktop, had I looked there first. Why does iCloud not sync my Mail rules, and is there a solution for this?

It is not Mac to Mac.
Why not look up iCloud support, it was never offered as anything outside iOS 5 supported devices.

Cannot Sync Mails on 3G / iOS4 with Client Cert. iPhone 4 OK, OS 3.1.3 OK

Hi One and All,
Our Exchange Server 2007 (published via ISA 2006) requires Client Certificates to Sync. We use the iPhone Configuration Utility to set up the mobileconfig file, and it normally works fine. However, I currently have two iPhones (1x3G and 1x3GS) that cannot access the server via either WLAN or 3G. If I install the same config file on an iPad or an iPhone 4, it works fine. On the 3G and 3GS, it does not even enforce setting the lock code. Going into the mail account results in a "Cannot Connect To Server" error.
If I use Safari, and navigate to the Active-Sync page "https://myserver.domain.com/Microsoft-Server-ActiveSync/default.eas" it pops up a message that I need a certificate, and to press continue to select a certificate, but it then just hangs with a doughnut, and I have to reboot if I want to use Safari again.
I have done a Reset All Settings, tried lots of different mobileconfig files, all of which work on the iPad and iPhone4, but not the iPhone 3. Any ideas?

Actually, I didn't resolve this using the iPhone Configuration Utility.
This is a new feature in iOS4. For security reasons, if you change the Exchange Profile, you have to reset the phone to factory defaults first, and then it works. According to Apple, this is by design.

Cannot sync mail settings from macbook to iphone using itunes

hi. i am another new mac user. i have one problem with syncing my iphone through itunes. i can select contacts, calendar and bookmarks, BUT the mail options are shaded grey and not available to select.
i'm guessing that somehow i have selected that mail be synced with mobile me, but i don't want to do this!
can anyone please advise how i revert to syncing with itunes?
also, don't know if this is related, but my iphone doesn't seem to be backing up to my macbook when i try syncing or updating in itunes.

For the email account syncing issue, try restarting the iPhone and your Mac. You can restart the iPhone by holding the Sleep/Wake button until the red slider appears> then slide to turn off> and turn the iPhone back on by pressing the Sleep/Wake again, as described on page 34 of the iPhone User Guide.

For the backup issue, try right-clicking the iPhone and choosing Backup iPhone as described here: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1766
Do you see the backup in the iTunes> Preferences> Devices?

So i put Lion on my Mac Pro and my Macbook Pro yesterday, (i also have OS5 on iphone4S) - but i'm having a hard time getting my email accounts to stay synced/consistent with each other.
E.g - when i send a mail from my mac pro, i would like to see that mail in the sent folder on all 3 devices. Similarly, i deleted a mailbox folder on my mac pro mail, yet on my macbook pro mail the folder was still there.
(I'm coming from mobileme, if that makes any difference)
All i want is for my mail to be consistent across my 3 devices, so that when i send/move/ etc emails then all my devices stay consistent with each other.
I have turned icloud on on all 3 devices, and selected 'mail & notes' on them all.
Am i doing something wrong? Is it not possible to keep these 3 consistent and the same?

same problem here. Mac Mail on Lion doesn't seem to stay synced with iCloud mail very well....

ITunes cannot sync mail accounts because Iphone cancels sync?

I get the above message when I try to sync my iPhone with my iMac. Does anyone know a fix?

Usually when itunes cancels a sync, something itunes was trying to sync is corrupted.
When you sync the iphone to you imac, try syncing one category at a time to see what is canceling the sync.
First, sync just music and nothing else.
Then if music sync, try movies or video.
Keep going through the tabs adding on one thing at a time until you get the error message.
When you get the error message, you know that something in that last category is corrupted.

Cannot sync mail with BT CONNECT

Bought my husband the new itouch and we have been trying all day to get our mail account at btconnect.com to connect
it is a pop3 incoming server and smtp outgoing server, have tried SSL turned on, we don't have the option for 'advanced' and therfore we have to wait till the itouch asks do we want to try using SSL OFF.
Can anyone help

Could you tell us a little more about your setup? Are you using your own wireless router or a HomeHub? Does the iPod touch access other Internet services correctly? Can you receive email?
Try going to Settings > Mail, Calendars, Contacts > {account name} > Outgoing Mail Server > Primary Server > . Then toggle "Use SSL" and try again. I'm not sure but BT may wish you to add a username and password. Make sure you're using port 587 (or 465) not 25. You should check these ports are open on your router too.

Mail rules have stopped executing applescripts

I have 3 mail rules that run different applescripts to process mail into other apps (omnifocus and yojimbo). Sometime in the last few days, these rules stopped processing the apple scripts. I know the issue is not the scripts themselves, because I can execute them manually just fine.
I'm not sure why they have stopped working, but there are two changes that have happened on my computer that I think might have created the issue:
1) I installed the Safari 4.0 beta
2) I began syncing mail rules with another machine. (This created duplicate rules, but I have deleted them.)
Anyone have any ideas what might be causing my issue?

The fact that you can receive means you have a valid e mail address, and have established the connection to the incoming server, so all of that works. Since the send does not work, that means your outgoing server is rejecting whatever settings you used formthe outgoing set up. Try them again.
Google your particular isp, and ipad and many times you will find the exact settings needed for your isp. Or tell us here, and soneone else may be on the same isp. Some mail services need you to change a port, or have a unique name for the outgoing server.
Kep trying.

Why is Mail rule syncing only one way?

Odd. I've got a Mac mini and an iMac, both running 10.8.2, both with iCloud syncing Documents & Data. Mail on the mini has rules -- created on that machine -- for SpamSieve that are not syncing to the iMac; in fact, both rules disappear every few days and I only notice because spam starts piling up.
On the other hand, changes to Mail rules on the iMac are synced to the mini. The mini has been running Mountain Lion for five months; the rules only started disappearing after I upgraded to ML on the iMac last month.
Any ideas on why the syncing is only one-way?

It appears that I can't edit my original question. So here is new information. It is syncing. However, the contacts are syncing with my personal folders. The calendar is syncing from Outlook to Ipad from my personal folders. However, the calendar is syncing to Outlook in a hotmail calendar in the profile that I didn't know existed. How do I get it set right.
I tried to select the calendar. However only one calendar is available in itunes. It must be the correct calendar as it is syncing fine. So how do I get ipad to sync back to the personal folders calendar instead of the hotmail calendar in my profile?
