Canon 5D MII .mov files video is jerky

Vista 64 Ultimate SP1
Using latest ASUS i7 MB P6T Deluxe w/ Intel 3.2ghz 965 quadcore @3.2 ghz
12GB Ram
Nvidia Quadro CX video w/latest drivers. dual Dell moitors 2408WFP running 1920 X 1200 via DisplayPort.
Premiere Pro CS4 latest updates
Quicktime Pro latest updates (7.6 1292)
I can open the .mov files and they play smooth as silk in QT Pro at full rez.
When I import the .mov files into PP on the timeline and go to play, I get stalling, horrible framerates (on the order 3 fps), intermittent muting in the audio. Horrible. Help ! I sunk a lot of money into this state of the art rig to edit uncompressed HD video from my Canon 5d Mark II, and yet
I am at my wit's end. The .mov files from my Canon 5D mark II are allegedly 1080p, 30fps h.264 (?). How do I get PP to play and scrub through smoothly uncompressed on the timeline ?
Thanks

For a New Yorker, I detect a certain glaring lack of the built-in up- front protective cynicism about product promotion that I would have expected to find. :) WTF is an appropriate afterthought though. And it does establish that you at least got some of the proper upbringing to be a bona fide New Yorker :)
By the way, do not hold your breath until an Adobe rep steps forward to offer a rebuttal for misleading advertising. That's even less likely than a real New Yorker apologizing for saying FU. And, don't be surprised if that is not the only instance of gilding the lily you will discover in Adobe--or many other--software product claims.
However, you can get your money back from Adobe, though, if you haven't had it too long. They are quite good about that. And, they were up front about the QTP requirement. And they do have some great products, like AE, that actually live up to the advertising.
And, most importantly, out of all this you have certainly learned one half of the lesson necessary for a successful relationship with new software--Read the forum, search the web for 'X Software Problems' and hit the other related forums like DVI, etc.
Now for the other half, the cherry on top, the most important step before buying: Are you Ready!
DOWNLOAD A TRIAL VERSION AND TEST THE #$%@ OUT OF IT WITH YOUR CAMERA GEAR ON YOUR COMPUTER CONFIGURATION BEFORE YOU BUY. And it never hurts to try the competition's software before you jump.
Never, absolutely never, take any marketing claim from any software producer to be necessarily true to YOUR computing requirements.
As a potentially full fledged New Yorker (with a bit of re education, that is)I'm sure you will appreciate my F&%$#$G candor :)

  • Is it necessary to "Optimize" Canon 5D II .mov files before editing ?

    Hi !
I've just downloaded Final Cut Pro X and i'm getting familiar with it ... but have a question !
I shoot video with a Canon 5D Mark II which produces .mov files.
With FCP 7, I used to transcode the .mov files to Apple Pro Res (LT) using MPEG Streamclip as it was apparently an easier video format to edit with. However, I understand that FCP X uses different architecture and I can edit my Canon 5D2 files without transcoding ("Optimizing") to Pro Res etc.
    1 ) Is this true ?
I see that when using FCP X it suggests to "Create Optimized Media" - ie : transcode the movie files into Pro Res. However, when i do this it creates a massive additional Pro Res movie file on my hard drive taking up more space than the smaller Pro Res (LT) files ever did when using MPEG Streamclip with FCP 7.
2 ) What is the suggested workflow for this Canon 5D Mark II and FCP X video set up ?
All advice would be much appreciated ...

Not found one yet either !
It would be incredibly helpful if we could import original native .mov files to the events library (for viewing) and there was an option for just the selected media in the Project timeline is transcoded to Pro Res (or Pro Res LT etc). This would save on an enormous amount of disc space is is surely the answer ! Video takes up sooooo much room !
I've already asked Apple for this feature (via App Feedback) but I'll also post on http://www.cinema5d.com/viewtopic.php?f=24&t=33745&p=201919#p201919 to get feedback and support from the massive amount of people who use that website.
Lets hope Apple listen pronto !

  • Canon HG10 :Merging mov files and output on a Mac

    Hi,
I'm on MacOSX 10.5.8 and currently working on a little video project.
I must admit my ignorance on the subject is comparable to my grandma asking how to send an email. So please be nice
I have several .mov videos imported from my Canon HG10 at the highest resolution (which according to Quicktime Movie Inspector is 1888x1062 - FPS 29.97).
Now I need to a) merge all of them into one file and b) convert the output onto a much lighter but still good quality format (H.264 mp4?).
I spent a good few hours on iMovie but since I don't need to edit the video it looked like I was pretty much wasting my time.
Could anyone give me a quick 1-2-3 on how to do the above (hopefully there's some "lamers" solution out there)?
    Cheers!

    Here's Avids answer:
Pro50 codecs only work in Macs, so the original files need to be EXPORTED from FCP with a special codec Avid created for Mac.
So that's that issue solved ... hopefully, let's see after the next export.
But .mov files are still screwed up on my PC.
Kirk - I did reboot the machine in SafeMode, reinstalled QT, but nope - version 7.2. still doesn't play any .mov files properly that are stored on my C-drive that previously were just fine.
    Thanks again.

  • .mov files - video too fast, audio ok

    HI!
I have a problem with .mov files. They play and the sound is ok, but video plays too fast and i ahead of audio. I'm sure the video is too fast, because i can see when someone is talking that it's way too fast. I've tried reinstalling quictime, installing older versions, reinstalling direct x and graphics drivers. I even tried quictime alternative. Nothing helps. This happens to files that i have on my disc. And it only happens on my computer, on my brothers it plays just fine, so the files are ok.
    Can anyone help?

  • .mov file (video) not showing in published html file

I inserted a .mov file into a digital book.  Published it as html. I can see it in the web browser, but my teammate cannot.  What could be the problem?

By "in it, "  I mean the indd file has a mov file inserted into it.  I published the file as a swf and html.  She could see the html document, but the video wouldn't appear.  She clicked on the poster image and then the slide was blank.  If I insert a f4v file into the indd file and publish it as swf/html, she cannot view the html document at all.

  • Bridge CC freezes when downloading from CF Card .MOV files

I have had a consistant problem since using Bridge CC.  I insert a CF Card to the ready and Bridge CC downloader automatically comes up.  The CF Card often contains JPG, CR2 and .MOV files.  No conversion or other edits are occuring accept for name change.and copyright meta data.  When the download comes to the Canon  5D Mii .MOV file it freezes and wont proceed.  I in fact have to pull up the Task Manager and stop the application to close it.  I am able to use Explorer to browse and down load all the movie flies, just not through Bridge CC - Any ideas?

The same problem is happening to me when trying to access a shared/network drive...
You mean trying to get .mov files from a network?? Otherwise try starting a new thread for this problem. Also be aware that Adobe officially does not support use for Bridge over a network due to the many set ups that are possible. Some get it to work with great care and understanding, others don't succeed.
Bridge also by default has user based cache libraries and you also should have the correct permissions for the things you try to access.

  • How do i edit move file in pre elements

I shot in a canon 60d  the footage is not supported in pre elements ,how do i edit move file in pre elements

    issac
What version of Premiere Elements are you using and on what computer operating system is it running?
When you write "move" file, do you mean "movie" file?
Do you have QuickTime installed on your computer along with Premiere Elements? If not, please do so.
Generalizing because you did not give all the details, I would say that the Canon 60D AVCHD.mov file should be supported by
Premiere Elements as long as you have QuickTime installed on the same computer with Premiere Elements.
Please review and consider and supply more details.
We will be watching for the details.
    Thank you.

  • Cannot transfer videos taken from my Canon camera(MOV files) to the iPad 4. They have previous with no problems at all. Is this an update issue?

Cannot transfer videos taken from my Canon camera(MOV files) to the iPad 4. They have previous with no problems at all. Is this an update issue? I tried to sync them over using iTunes last night but it says that they cannot be played on the device. But they have previously

1, you can't at the moment, though with iOS 5 in the Autumn, from http://www.apple.com/ios/ios5/features.html#photos :
Even organize your photos in albums — right on your device
2, by removing it from you synced from and re-syncing. Only photos taken with the iPad, copied to it via the camera connection kit, or saved from emails/websites etc can be deleted directly on the iPad (either via the trashcan icon in the top right corner if viewing the photo in full screen, or via the icon of the box with the arrow coming out of it in thumbnail view)
3, the location of the photos that you synced to the iPad should be listed on the iPad's Photos tab when connected to your computer's iTunes.
4, you can copy the photos from your iPad to your computer : http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4083 . You should also be able to delete them from the iPad as part of the transfer process to your computer, and it's then your choice whether to add them to your sync photo list so as to copy them back to the iPad. Copying them to your computer would allow you to organise them into folders and therefore be able to sync them back into separate albums.
5, I don't use Dropbox either. There are some third-party browser apps in the iTunes App Store that allow you to download pages so that you can view them when offline e.g. Atomic Web (the whole page is saved within Atomic Web, it doesn't place a photo into the Photos app)
6, deleting content should help. If you remove an app from your iPad then you also remove the content that it's got on the iPad - so if you then decide to reinstall it back onto the iPad then you will need to manually add back any content that you want in it. None of the Apple built-in apps (including Photos) can be removed from the iPad

  • PPro CS4 - imported .mov file and video playback is jerky

    Hi all.
I have imported a Quicktime .mov file into a standard sequence. The audio plays back fine but the video is very jerky.
I did an 'interpret footage' on the clip and see it's at a frame rate of 1.2480.
How can I get this file to play correctly in a PPro sequence at 29.97 FPS?
Help! My deadline is getting close.
    Thanks.
    Keith

    Thanks Bill.
Here's what I could find... I hope it means more to you that to me!!! I see that the average frame rate is 13.58. If I interpret footage and use that rate, 30 second commercial plays in about 5 seconds.
    Thanks for the help.

  • .mov-files jerky in PSE7

Hello, I just bought a Canon Powershot G10 and was quite disappointed about the movie quality, videos are jerking a lot in PSE7(never had this problem with my G9-files). Then I discovered, that Canon has changed the videos from avi to mov - obviously that is the cause (at least on my computer), because the G10-videos are smooth and very good, if I play them in the external Quicktime-Player (newest version. I installed PSE7 also on my notebook - same effect. OS : Vista Buisiness. Can anyone confirm these problems ? Solutions ?

I have considered the Canon G10 for my family but we have not purchased it, so I can not specifically confirm your problems. Here are some suggestions that might help you isolate your problem
1-- Since you say your experience the same problem when you play these G10 videos using the Quicktime Player (and Photoshop Elements is not involved), it seems appropriate for you to ask Canon Technical Support about your problem. You can ask them what player they would recommend and if they have identified any characteristics of your computer that might cause jerky playback.
2- I suggest that you look at the dpreview.com site.
Its review of the G10 camera at http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/canong10/
includes a sample movie file that you could download and try to play on your computer. It may help to know if that sample file exhibits the same jerky problems on your computer.
The dpreview forum for Canon cameras
    http://forums.dpreview.com/forums/forum.asp?forum=1010
may be a better place than here to ask your questions about jerky playback of the G10 video. It is an active forum that often includes discussion of the newest G series camera photos and video.
    A request -
Please do post back to this thread with the conclusions after doing your analysis using other resources. I think that you are the first to ask this question here but I do not think that you will be the last to ask. Therefore your feedback will be valuable for others.

  • How to Import .MOV files in Adobe After Effects, I am Using Canon 700d for FilmShooting

    Hello,
I have Just brought a canon 700d and started Shooting HD Movies but now i want to add some effects in my video E.G. Twixtor effect for slow motion but I am facing a problem that i cannot import .MOV file in Adobe AE CS4. Please help me. Also If you can tell me any free converter for .MOV to AF file format.
I am using Windows 8 OS.
    Thanks!

CS4 is much older than Windows 8. CS4 is meant to work on XP or Vista. Getting it to run on Windows 7 was a bit of an issue, so I'm pleasantly surprised to hear that you have CS4 running on Windows 8 at all.
It's also possible that a new camera records in a codec that such an old version of AE doesn't understand.
Make sure you're running the latest update to your version of AE. You're on version 9, so make sure you've run the Adobe After Effects CS4 9.0.3 Update (I would not suggest updating in the middle of a project though, as any changes might break AE). I would like to reiterate: you're running a version that was released six years ago on an operating system that was released much more recently. So, be careful how you tread. However, if you're not running 9.0.3, you're missing some bug fix updates that might solve your problem.
I would suggest upgrading to a newer version of AE.
That being said, as Dave mentions, CS4 and earlier had lots of trouble with MPEG-4 and other codecs that used interframe compression. Can you open the files in your version of Premiere? If so, you can use Premiere or the Adobe Media Encoder to convert to a proper intermediate codec. MOV is just a container format. QuickTime with the PNG codec will work in After Effects CS4 with no problems as will the other codecs Dave mentions.

  • Does premiere elements 13 support canon mov files?

Does Premiere Elements support Canon mov files or must I convert the mov file to a different format first?  If I have to convert the mov file first, what file conversion program should I use and what file type should I convert it to?

    Howard Scheer
Thanks for the additional very helpful information.
    Two concerns in your case...
    1. Canon 70D and its H.264 intra frame compression. Please refer to the following
current thread on the color fade of the exports of the Canon 70D footage
    export quality
    2. Premiere Elements 10 on a computer with a NVIDIA GeForce video card/graphics card
is bad news. The typical fix is to roll back the driver version to about May 2013. But, when the
computer operating system is Windows 8 or 8.1 64 bit, often there is not an older enough driver
version to revert to in order to get Premiere Elements 10 to display and work properly.
    http://www.atr935.blogspot.com/2014/02/pe10-nvidia-video-card-roll-back.html
Also see Announcement at top of this forum about the Premiere Elements 10/NVIDIA GeForce issue.
You should not expect to run into this problem in Premiere Elements 13. But, go tryout before purchase
to assure the compatibility of the program with your computer environment and project goals.
Please review and consider and then we can discuss your situation further.
    Thank you.
