Canon CD Tray incompatible with Leopard?

Hi,
I'm a "happy" owner of Canon's iP4200 Pixma printer and I've occassionally used it's CD-Tray C for printing CD labels. This worked fine on my PC but ever since I got my Mac Mini with Leopard, I haven't been able to get it to work. Causal printing (even in color) works all fine, but as soon as I set up LabelPrint, pick the right tray, the right disc type and everything, it just coughs up an Error 1001 (claiming the CD isnt in the tray or the tray isnt in there) and it just pushes it out of the printer physically.
From what I've read, this is a casual problem for Mac owners, but everybody has been able to solve it by printing the actual file to PDF in the past; and then printing the PDF itself. This does not work for me, it gives me the same error (and it does the same when printing from Adobe Photoshop).
This makes me think it must be either a driver error or something in Leopard; I do have both the latest Leopard (10.5.1), the latest Canon drivers (4.8.3) and the latest LabelPrint (1.6.0)
I could print the covers over the network from a Windows notebook, but Mac-printer sharing only works with the Apple LaserWriter driver which is both slow and does not of course support any features like CD tray printing etc. Installing the printer with its correct Windows driver and trying to print over it just results in it not working; Windows printer queue is empty and so is the Mac's.
Do I have to buy another printer? And god **** it, what brand if not Canon? Is it even possible to print properly with Canon on Mac?
Thanks for any replies!
Daniel

Also note, printing labels for CDs is unwise. It has nothing to do with Mac or PC. Labels shorten the length of CDs. http://www.macintouch.com/cdrfailure.html covers that and much more. Basically for CDs, you should buy CDs that are prepackaged in a jewelcase, and not a spindle, and make your own jewelcase inserts or write on the jewelcase exterior the contents of the CD if you want to prolong the media life.

  • IDVD version incompatible with Leopard?

Purchased Leopard OS and installed it in my Mac mini. Had no installation problems and all software updates installed with no grief. Leopard upgraded iLife components to v 5.x and they all appear to work except iDVD. The Leopard installation disk seems to have installed a version incompatible with Leopard OS. "You cannot use this version of the application iDVD with this version of Mac OS X."
Any suggestions on how to make iDVD work? Yes, I know that I am the last one on the block to update to Leopard. I really am an old-timer and buying a new Mac is not an option. I didn't spot a post on this subject but if I missed it please direct me to it.

There is the assumption that Apple applications would not be made obsolete by upgrading the OS. e.g. Even AppleWorks which is no longer supported by Apple still works with Leopard OS.
Aaaah, the hidden costs of upgrades...
You can right click and get info on the program itself and you should be able to determine if your version should work with Leopard. My iDVD is v7.0.4 Only version 6 or 7 are compatible with Leopard.
Appleworks has many versions, but if I google: leopard appleworks problems - I get way too many hits to feel good about continuing to work with it. Pages seems to be able to be able to open .cwk files and they need to be converted.
A lot of people think that iLife is free, but it's actually part of the purchase price for the computer. Some people want to try installing iLife 09 on the older OS and come across the same issue in reverse because 09 requires Leopard.
In addition, iMovie 09 doesn't work on PPC Mac's even if they are running Leopard.
Apple's price for iLife 09 is $79 and they had a bundle for both Leopard and iLife for $169 but it's too late for you to get the bundle.
If there is any easy (inexpensive) way to get iDVD to work on my Mac mini, please let me know.
Amazon has iLife '09 on sale for $56.49

  • IDVD incompatible with Leopard

I recently upgraded to OS 10.5 Leopard and to my surprise iDVD reports that it is incompatible with the version of OS (iLife '05). However when I went to look at buying iLife '08 I find that iMovie has a minimum requirement of G5 processor or greater. So if I upgrade to fix iDVD I will break iMovie (or at the very least I am paying for software I can not use)
So I can't upgrade and I can't go back. I guess the middle ground is iLife '06 but that does not seem to be readily available anywhere and where I did find it they want $99 which is more expensive than iLife '08.
    Anyone got some ideas?

If you purchase iLife 08, you can use the other apps except for iMovie, and you should be able to download iMovie 6 for free. http://support.apple.com/downloads/iMovieHD6

  • Canon MX310 Prints poorly with Leopard

When I upgraded to Leopard, my printer failed to print properly, then a cartridge strap broke, so I bought a new printer at the Apple Store to ensure I had a printer that worked with Leopard. The specifications on this printer on the Apple Store's web site state, that it works with 10.5.x. While it does print text documents, full color images are washed out. Photoshop CS3 prints images terribly and Photoshop CS prints less so, but still unacceptable.
I don't think it's the paper quality, as one poster suggested on the review page in the Apple Store's site.
I've gone to Canon's web site to download the latest driver and found no difference.
What printer DOES work with Leopard? I don't want to revert to Tiger. Any suggestions?

I think you will find that many printers work on Leopard. We use a number of Canon printers for proofing (albeit dedicated printers and not All-In-Ones) and they print fine from 10.5. Note that the paper can make a difference. When you say washed out, if you mean the colours are not vibrant, then the paper can make a difference because plain paper will absorb the ink, some more than others. Photo papers don't absorb the ink as much so the colours can appear brighter. Also, the colour profiles for the printers vary for different paper stocks. If you have some photo paper, try setting the quality & media > media type to photo paper pro and then print.

  • 1st gen iPod incompatible with Leopard?

I have a 5GB gen. 1 iPod which still works fine. However, when I hook it to a Mac running OS 10.5.7, it slowly goes to heck, taking the whole FireWire buss down with it. I then have to power everything off, unplug power to all FW devices, and reboot to get the Mac running again. Any external disk drives then need to be repaired with Disk Utility before use. This happens with three Macs, a new Mini, a white MacBook, and a G4 Cube. With a G4 tower running 10.4.11, no problem.
I tried repartitioning and restoring the iPod with ver. 1.5 software, which iTunes says is current. No difference. Anybody else run into this, or have an ancient iPod working with Leopard?

I have a 10GB clickwheel iPod that I've been trying to update just to use for some simple mp3 spoken word files and a handful of songs. Not trying to load entire iTunes library on it. Is the clickwheel not compatible with 10.4.11? I've used disk utility to erase and reformat my iPod, used iTunes to restore several times, and unchecked almost all my music just to se if I can get a handful of files to update onto my iPod. I don't care that it's not sleek and brand new, but I certainly hope I can use it still for basic stuff. I'm wondering if it's no longer supported by iTunes 8+ and OS X 10.4+. Does anyone know for sure and can provide an answer? If it should be supported, anyone have any other suggestions? It seems like it tries to update, but after I see the message that 6 of 100 or 11 of 100 songs have been copied, it just locks up and that is it. Any help would be appreciated.

  • Plug-ins Incompatible with Leopard?

I've downloaded numerous 3rd party plugs & Garageband (version 4.1.1) doesn't seem to register any of them after dragging the plugs to library>audio>plug-ins>components. I've never encountered this problem with any other OS/version of Garageband. I can live without most of my Waves plugs for awhile since they currently don't support Leopard, but desperately need a deesser and none (including Spitfish) will register. Is this simply just a compatibility issue? If so, are there any known [free] 3rd party developers that support Leopard?
    Thanks.

I've actually noticed that several third party plug-ins such as various iZotope aren't visible in GB08. The list incldes Guitar Rig 2, which I used with no problem in the previous verision of GB but it's nowhere to be seen in the list of plug-ins in GB08.
    I still use Tiger.

  • Quark 7 incompatible with Leopard?

I've recently bought a new iMac 24" 2.8Mhz which came pre-installed with Tiger.
I 'migrated' all my files and apps from my G4 - checked a few out - which worked ok - then upgraded to Leopard.
When I tried to run Quark 7 I got a message requesting a new validation code (as the app had been moved). I got a new code from Quark and the app appeared to set itself up ok.
However, when I tried to open an existing Quark file I got the whirling pizza.
After several minutes I had to do a 'force quit' to exit
If I try to create new file. I get the page specification box, then a window appears 'Bug Reporter - gathering system information" - then Quark shuts down.
At this stage I uninstalled Quark and tried to reinstall it from the original disk.
This time I got as far as inputting the Validation code - which the setup routine appeared to accept - then the installation routine just bombs out.
I reckon the only option I have is to clear everything. Re install Tiger. Migrate my apps and files again. And see what happens when I try to run Quark in Tiger.
Upgrading to Leopard - only when I'm sure Quark is working - my be the solution. Then again I might find myself back to square one.
Anyone else having problems with Quark and Leopard?

Had originally migrated Quark to my new Intel Mac then upgraded to latest version.
Uninstalled the lot then downloaded latest complete package from Quark website.
    Problem solved

  • Pogo games incompatible with Leopard?

My wife's G4 running 10.4.11 will not power up. She played Pogo games on that machine with no problems. She tried to play games on her Pogo account with my G5 running 10.5. She can get around on their site but when trying to play games it will not load games. The screen says "Games Loading" but they don't. After a while the screen goes away.

I have tested the iP100 via a Bluetooth connection to OS X 10.8.3 and it printed images using the Bluetooth image transfer function in OS X.

  • Is Leopard incompatible with Airport Extreme 802.11g?

I'm still having issues with Leopard. I've worked my way past kernal panics and frozen blue screens. I've re-installed Leopard twice after the initial upgrade. I've updated all software & the firmware for the Airport Extreme. So here's the issue now:
When the G5 is turned on initially, everything seems fine. The Airport status is showing as strong in the menu bar. *The system profiler tells me that I have an airport card and gives me its information.* Within less than 5 minutes, the computer freezes. I force it off with the power button.
I restart it and then there is no airport status showing in the menu bar. +And the drop down menu says "No Airport Card Installed."+ Checking the Airport card on system profiler now says, "No information found." But NOW the G5 functions normally and does not freeze. Which, of course, leads me to believe there's something incompatible between Leopard & the older model Airport Extreme. As mentioned, I've downloaded and installed the firmware update for the Airport Extreme. No change.
I've booted from the Installer disk and run disk utilities several times - one of the permissions that was updated today was for the Airport. However, it made no change.
I've been fighting this ever since the initial install of Leopard - over a month ago. How I wish I had Tiger back!
    Ideas?

    Diane,
I have added very few apps to my G5. The majority of my time is spent editing photos with PhotoshopCS3. I have software updates set to run weekly and have always kept them up to date. I really believe it's a disk permissions issue...but repairing them doesn't help.
*+Upon installation, I used Archive and Install.+* While I agree that Erase and Install may sound like a good idea, it makes me nervous. I do have everything backed up on a bootable CMS drive, but I'm a photographer and was hoping to not have to erase the G5.
Yes, as I mentioned in the original post, I've downloaded and installed the Airport firmware update. And all software is up to date.
All was working just dandy before the upgrade. Unfortunately now it's sounding like I may have to erase my hard drive and install fresh.
If I do that, is it just a matter then of dragging my photos from the backup disk to the G5? And documents? Etc?? The thought of getting all my photos and important information back on the G5 seems a bit staggering.

  • Witch laptops are compatible/incompatible with windows XP/VISTA

Hi so i am planning on buying Apple MacBook or maybe PRO
i have a list of laptops that are served in our area:
    Apple MacBook Pro MA895
    Apple MacBook Pro MA610
    Apple MacBook Pro MA611
    Apple MacBook Pro MA897
    Apple MacBook MB062
    Apple MacBook MB063
and i need to know wich one of those are compatible or incompatible with Windows XP? please make a quick response
In advance thank you for your time

All of the "MacBook" laptops are compatible with XP/Vista.
One thing to note is that BootCamp is currently in the beta version (at least until when OS X Leopard comes out), so you may have some minor problems installing and running windows, but they should be fine.
Another thing to note is since Vista craves a lot of CPU, RAM, HD and graphics, I would suggest you going to a MacBook Pro. I have heard that Vista does not run smoothly on computers with less than 2 GB RAM, nor does all of its features render well if you don't have a 128 MB graphics card. Increasing the MacBook's RAM to 2 GB may also significantly increase the performance.
Either way, the option is yours. All of them should work out fine, with perhaps a couple of firmware updates

I have the original ipad (OS 5.1.1) using pages 1.7.2 and backing up to icloud.  If I open up one of the docs from icloud, I can no longer open it on my ipad.  Looks like the pages version gets updated to a version that is incompatible with my ipad.  Is there anyway stopping icloud from changing the version and is there a way to recover the old version of the document on my ipad?

Upgrade to Snow Leopard - it's compatible with the latest version of iTunes, and still supports PowerPC applications.
    $19.99 - http://store.apple.com/us/product/MC573Z/A/mac-os-x-106-snow-leopard
Snow Leopard is required if you wanted to upgrade to Lion, anyway, which you may want to in the future if the latest version of iTunes no longer supports Snow Leopard.

  • Incompatible with Adobe InDesign (Error code: 14)

    Hi all,
I've been having major problems with InDesign CS3 and OS 10.5. It always crashes when I try to Place, Export, Save As, anything that requires it to navigate the finder.
Now, while trying to export to PDF, the document froze. So I had to force quit it. Now ANY InDesign file I try to open gives me the error message:
The file "file name" is incompatible with Adobe InDesign (Error code: 14).
Has anyone experienced this? I'm now stuck as I cannot open anything to get some work done.
    Thanks in advance.

    I have tried:

Deleting the file "InfoPlist.Strings" in folder "itlproj" which was a folder that keept showing on restart. (it was a italian languae to a dropdown shadow throug Flash CS5)

  • HT4757 Will this software make my Canon Powershot A700 work with os x 10.8.2 and iPhoto 11 v. 9.4.1?  Is there any way to get my camera compatible with this computer?

Will this software make my Canon Powershot A700 work with os x 10.8.2 and iPhoto 11 v. 9.4.1?  Is there any way to get my camera compatible with this computer?

    First Try the following:
1 - delete the iPhoto preference file, com.apple.iPhoto.plist, that resides in your
         User/Home/Library/ Preferences folder.
2 - delete iPhoto's cache file, Cache.db, that is located in your
User/Home/Library/Caches/com.apple.iPhoto folder (Snow Leopard and Earlier).
or with Lion and Mt. Lion from the User/Library/Containers/com.apple.iPhoto/
    Data/Library/Caches/com.apple.iPhoto folder
3 - launch iPhoto and try again.
NOTE:  In Lion and Mountain Lion the Library folder is now invisible. To make it permanently visible enter the following in the Terminal application window: chflags nohidden ~/Library and hit the Enter button - 10.7: Un-hide the User Library folder.
If that doesn't help apply the two fixes below in order as needed:
    Fix #1
1 - launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys held down and rebuild the library.
2 - run Option #4 to rebuild the database.
    Fix #2
Using iPhoto Library Manager  to Rebuild Your iPhoto Library
1 - download iPhoto Library Manager and launch.
2 - click on the Add Library button and select the library you want to add in the selection window..
3 - Now that the library is listed in the left hand pane of iPLM, click on your library and go to the Library ➙ Rebuild Library menu option.
4 - In the next  window name the new library and select the location you want it to be placed.
5 - Click on the Create button.
Note: This creates a new library based on the LIbraryData.xml file in the library and will recover Events, Albums, keywords, titles and comments.  However, books, calendars, cards and slideshows will be lost. The original library will be left untouched for further attempts at fixing the problem or in case the rebuilt library is not satisfactory.

  • Digital Camera Connection Problems With Leopard

    Hi Everyone,
I'm having a big problem with connecting various digital cameras to my macs. I have 3 different machines (a G5 iMac, 2 MacBook Pros) all running 10.5.1 or 10.5.2 and none of them will recognize my canon Powershot SD800 or my SD1000. I haven't had a chance to test it out with my Digital Rebel yet but I'm suspecting I may run into the same issue.
I've read through all the tech notes in the iLife section and various articles on the web and from what I can tell Apple has a problem with usb device connections in Leopard. I've tried all of the fixes (deleting caches folder, resetting PRAM, updating all applications, etc) and nothing works. The cameras were working fine under 10.4.11. I was really hoping Apple would have fixed this in 10.5.2 but it is still not working. Does anyone have any ideas if Apple is working on this? For photographers like myself this is a major deal. I can get around the issue right now using an external memory card reader, but that's extremely inconvenient at times and I'm just not impressed that something like this has gone months without a fix from Apple.

And I'm not having any problems with Leopard mounting my Canon PowerShot Pro or Rebel though I typically don't connect them, choosing to use a card reader instead. (Saves camera battery.) This is true on the 4 computers I use at home and work as well as my wife's MacBook. Two came with Leopard pre-installed the other 3 I installed Leopard using Archive & install.
We can talk about how you upgraded to Leopard or what you have installed that might be getting in the way, or you can buy an inexpensive card reader and be done with the hassle.
