Canon MX310 Fax Setup?

Hi, I wish to use the Fax built in to my Canon MX310 series to Fax directly from the print menu. The problem is that there is no apparent way to make OS X 10.6 realize that the Printer "Canon MX310 Series FAX" which shows up under the "Printer" tab as a printer is actually a Fax modem, is there any software or way to make Mac realized that this is a Fax modem and not a printer?
Thanks

Checking the Canon web site, it appears that they have not made a FAX driver available for this model. They only have a printer and scanner driver. Without a fax driver, you will not have the means to use the fax in the MX310 from the Mac. Typically they have created a FAX driver for Windows...

It appears that the Canon MX310 is supported by SL but Faxing is not.
How was it ever supported? How did you fax in 10.5?

For some AIOs, you have to add the "fax" printer separately.
    Hope this helps.

  • AirPort Express and Canon MX310

    Hello
I am trying to setup my Canon MX310 via AirPort Express:
Today i bought the AirPort Express and everything works fine. But printing does not work at all: I usually connected my printer directly via USB to my iMac. When i did that the first time, the driver for the printer was downloaded and i was able to print. Today, i connected the printer to my AirPort Express, deleted the printer from the printer list (because it is not connected directly via USB to the iMac) and tried to print. But it does not work. There is no printer to select from the list. I already downloaded several drivers but there are still no printers available. What do I have to do now?   Do I have to download a driver first? Or should the iMac detect the printer automatically when it is connected to AirPort Extreme via USB?

Connect the Canon to the USB port on the AirPort Express
Open System Preferences (gear icon on the dock)
    Open Print & Fax
Click the + (plus) button at the bottom of the printer list
Does your printer appear in the list of devices?
If yes, click on the name of the printer to highlght it, then click Add at the lower right
If so, your printer may not be compatible, or you may not have the latest drivers from Canon.

  • Canon MX310 printer problem

I purchased a Gateway LX6810-01 from BestBuy this past February. It came bundled with a Canon MX310 printer. I can copy, print and fax with the printer, however I can not get the scan function to work. I worked with Canon for days and nothing they tried would fix my problem, they finally told me to contact Gateway.
I contacted Gateway, the printer is still under warranty, and they wanted to charge me about $700 to work on my problem. The last error message I got was "missing dependency 1068" "the dependency service or group failed to start" "windows could not start the (WIA) service on local computer" .
First of all I would like my problem resolved. Secondly I am curious to know if anyone else that purchased this particular bundled product from BestBuy encountered the same problem and if so, why is this being bundled if it does not work. Thirdly, I am curious to know if switching from Windows Vista (64) to Windows 7 will solve my problem.
All help and advice would be greatly appreciated.

Make sure they are the 64 bit drivers, you may have to download them from Canon's website.

  • Canon MX310 and AEBS?

I think this answer has been well documented but I have to ask it anyway. I just bought a new imac and this canon MX310 Multifuntion device. With a new Airport Extreme base station, will I be able to access the scan and fax funtions of this printer? Or is it just the printer via bonjour, like everyone else!
    Thanks
    John Shepherd

    John
You can not use the scan of fax function while the printer is connected to your AEBS.
You will have to plug it directly to your computer.
A search of these pages first would have found you the answer.

My new Canon Pixma 7250 wireless printercan no longer find my wireless network. (It worked fine until recently) I have a Yosemite 10.10.2. I've run diagnostics and the Canon LAN printer setup routine many times. Is there a solution? Can anyone help?

Turn of the MG and unplug the power cord. Leave it off for about a minute and then reconnect the power cord and turn the power back on. Wait while the device attempts to reconnect to your wireless network - the blue wifi symbol on the MG will flash and then stay on once it has connected. If it keeps flashing then you will have to reconnect the MG to your wireless access point via the control panel on the MG.

  • Printer Driver for Canon MX310

    Hi everyone,
Just made the switch to Mac on the weekend, and everything is running smoothly on my new SR Macbook so far. The only thing I'm having trouble with is getting the right printer driver set up.
I got the Canon MX310 with the rebate that came with my macbook, and it's connected to a PC running Windows XP. I have everything shared properly, and I installed the printer driver (onto my Macbook as well) that came on the CD with the printer. The problem I'm having is that I can't figure out where this printer driver is saved to on my Macbook!
I tried looking at all those drivers that come preinstalled on Leopard, but the MX310 is not one of them, and it doesn't seem that my newly installed driver shows up on that list.
I just can't find it, so I have selected the Generic Postscript Printer driver. Could someone please help me set this up so that I am using the correct driver for my printer?
    Many thanks!!

I USE THIS DRIVER WHEN PRINTING FROM A MAC TO A WINDOWS XP OVER A NETWORK FOR THE CANON MX310. • My Canon MX310 Series Printer failed as the software "is currently not available from the Software Update Server"? What is the matter with Apple OSX Mountain Lion?

Mountain Lion stopped working with our Canon MX310 Printer? Why is the software not available from the Software Update Server?

The printer and ICA scanner driver is available from Apple. There is probably some other reason why you cannot get the drivers.
You can also get the drivers from Canon.
But reading your post it sounds like you were printing to the MX310 and recently it has stopped printing. Is this the case?

  • FAX Setup for Officejet 8620 -- Auto Answer & Cord "Fail"

I have encountered two issues after setting up my new Officejet 8620.
I have followed instructions for connecting the printer, using the phone cord provided by HP.  Repeated tests insist "FAIL" for "Using Correct Type of Phone Cord with Fax." I have tried hard reset a couple of times with no change in test result.
The fax is working: I can send and receive faxes, but why the "FAIL"? I see from other forum messages that this is a common issue.
Second issue is that the Auto Answer is set to "ON," but the fax doesn't answer incoming calls. I get the message on the display screen giving me the options to "Ignore" or "Accept", and pushing "Accept" does result in the fax coming through, but I need the machine's "Auto Answer" function to work. The 8620 is not connected to an answering machine. It's connected directly to the phone wall jack. Also,I have disabled voicemail service on that phone line, so there shouldn't be anything interfering with Auto Answer.
I would be grateful for help resolving these problems.

Hello @hpuser24333, Welcome to the forums
I read your post about the concerns and issues you're running into with your Officejert 8620, and I wanted to reach out to share my suggestions with you.
I would recommend a factory reset on the printer, and to run through the fax set up again. I am hoping you won't run into the same problems again however, if you do, please give us a call.
On the printer, select the Setup Menu, Tools, Restore Factory Defaults, Yes, restart the printer.
When the power is back on select Setup, Fax Setup, Fax Setup Wizard, Yes, continue through the setup.
    I really hope this helps!

  • Canon MX310 scan error

I just purchased the Canon MX310 multifunction printer through the promotional offer when I purchased the macbook. The printer and copier work fine. When I finish scanning a document under my user account and log out, the next user is not able to scan under their account when they log in. The error message is: "Cannot scan for these reasons: - scanner is in start processing; - the scanner is being used by another user or application." I also receive the same error msg when I log back into my account and try to scan. I've installed the updated Canon driver and software several times. Canon tech support thinks it's an apple software problem - that it is not closing down the scanning operation when the user logs off. The apple tech support suggests that I perform "archive and install" which will delete all applications I have installed. Any suggestions before I make this drastic move??

Since this is a new Macbook, an archive and install is probably not going to help. That is a good solution to many 10.5 problems, but not this one.
    First, a couple of questions..
    1) How is your printer connected to the Macbook? Are you using a hub? If so, does it support USB 2.0?
    2) Can you do repeated scans without logging out? Is it the log out process that causes a problem?
    3) Have you tried unplugging the USB cable, logging off, then plugging the cable back in?
I have two Canon printers (including an MX300, very similar to yours). I will try to remember to see if I can reproduce this problem. While I really like my Canon machines, printer drivers and especially scanner drivers are notoriously flaky. One of the primary reasons people liked the old MacOS so much was that printing was so easy and effortless. Apple doesn't make printers anymore. Now printing is a pain. Is that Apple's fault? Kind of - because they don't make printers anymore.
It is certainly possible that Apple software is the problem. Still, reinstalling the Apple OS will not help if it is a Canon problem or an Apple problem. I might recommend that if only the Macbook originally had Tiger installed and then you upgraded to Leopard.

  • Yosemite and Canon MX310 scanner are incompatible

I recently installed Yosemite OS on my Mini Mac (2011). Till then my Canon MX310 scanned and printed fine. Now it does not scan any longer and I get this message:
Cannot communicate with scanner for these reasons:
    - Scanner is turned off.
    - USB cable is disconnected.
    It prints fine, no problems.
I looked for a possible solution and found that the Canon site does not list version 10.10 for the MX310. Can I thus assume that my printer/scanner is now obsolete and not compatible with my computer. If this is the case I am seriously peeved that I downloaded Yosemite. This is not my only problem with Yosemite.
Question: Does anyone know how to fix this?

    Thanks for confirming the connection.
For you to have the Scan button that you previously saw in Printers & Scanners the ICA driver must be installed. Typically this would be downloaded from the Apple Software Update server when you add the device. And this same ICA driver is used by Image Capture for scanning.
The ICA driver is installed in /Library/Image Capture/Devices and will be labelled CanonIJScannerX, where X is a number. I'm not sure what number it will be for this model. You should already have at least one of these packages in this folder. Can you reply with what you do have in this folder and I will check to see if the MX310 is listed in the respective packages you do have.
With MP Navigator/ScanGear also not working I wonder if you have some other software running that could be impacting the operation of the USB port? Ever had another brand of multifunction device installed on this Mac? If so, what brand?

  • Canon MX310 scanner communication error with OS X 10.5.8

Does anyone have ideas to solve the Canon MX310 error message, "Cannot communicate with scanner." I'm running Canon MP Navigator EX 1.0. My MX310 prints & copies wirelessly using an Airport Extreme w/o difficulty. I have checked that the USB cable is connected, printer is ON and tried a shut down of both computer & printer then restart which didn't resolve the issue. The error id might be 155.0.0. I don't get any other error messages generated from OS X. Thanks!

  • HP 1240 FAX Setup

I inherited a HP 1240 FAX machine; I would like to print a printer self-test report. It has the ink cartriges installed and the paper tray loaded.  When I plug it in and turn it on it displays 'Initializing'; then 'Phone Number'.  Whether I enter a phone number or not, when I press the 'OK' or 'Setup' button I hear 3 quick beeps and nothing happens.  I cannot find where this is discussed in the manual or the Setup Poster.Perhaps I need to be connected to a phone line and this is the number of that line.

Hi , Welcome to the HP Support Forums! I see that you would like to get your HP Officejet 7612 Wide Format e-All-in-One faxing and would like to print a test report. I would like to assist you. When the printer is initializing, it needs to complete that process before you can do anything else. If the printer is stuck in that mode, I would try a Hard Reset. It goes through initialization to calibrate the cartridges, for best print quality. I would do a Hard Reset to see if that will resolve the issue.
Leave the printer on and unplug the power cable from the printer and wall outlet for 60 seconds.
Then reconnect the power cable to the printer and wall outlet rather than a surge protector.
This ensures the printer is receiving full power and may help this situation.
In order to fax from the HP Officejet 7612, it requires an active phone line. Preferably a dedicated phone line. I would try the steps within this guide, HP Officejet 7610 Wide Format e-All-in-One Printer Series (H912) - Cannot Send or Receive Faxes. The printer cannot send or receive faxes.
Try the following solutions in the order presented to resolve the issue. Solution one: Print a fax test report Run a fax test report to determine the faxing status on the printer and whether or not it is configured correctly to send and receive faxes. From the Home screen on the printer control panel, touch the Right Arrow (), and then touch Setup ().Touch the Down Arrow (), and then touch Tools.Touch the Down Arrow (), and then touch Run Fax Test. • HP 6700 fax setup

HP 6700 fax setup only shows hard wiring, is it possible to setupwith my Verizon jetpack?

    Hello @cnrbaugh,
    Welcome to the HP Forums!
I understand you're wondering if the Officejet 6700 Premium is able to connect to your Verizon jetpack. I will do my best to assist you! You can set up this printer using the Verizon jetpack. You would have to set up this printer over a wireless network. This jetpack is classified as a hotspot, so you may not have a solid connection.
Please let me know if you have any further questions. Have a great night!

  • Wireless Scanning on Canon MX310 via Time Capsule

I can print wirelessly from my new MacBook Pro to the Canon MX310 but cannot scan wirelessly. canon could not help apart from suggesting I install MP Navigator v 3.0. It cannot be opened as the message I get when attempting to do so is "scanner driver supported by this software is not installed" and the original version of MP Navigator does nothing when attempting to scan wirelessly. I can scan using the USB connection but this is a nuisance now I have Time Capsule. My scanner drivers are up-to-date according to the versions on the Canon website. Canon Support suggested that the new MP Navigator software would enable an option to configure using the Time Capsule IP address but as I could not open the programme this obviously got nowhere.

    Hi LloydP,
Your answer is very interesting and might solve one of my wishes.
If I buy a all-in-one printer that supports WiFi scanning and printing from OS X 10.5 MacBooks, could I send print and scan jobs directly from and to the printer while surfing the Web via my TimeCapsule at the same time?
So rather than connecting the all-in-one Ethernet/WiFi printer to my TimeCapsule and try to print- and scan- over the air (which doesn't work from the blogs I read), I could connect wireless to TimeCapsule to surf the Web and sent print and scan jobs wireless direcly to a Brother 490CW at the same time for example?
Did I interpret this correctly? Thanks for your reply.
