Cant open pdf documents attached to an email

Hi All,
Since updating Adobe reader to Version 9 I am unable to open any pdf documents attached to emails (outlook express). If I want to open the documents I have to first save the attachments to a different location eg My documents, and then go to that location to open them. If I try to open the pdf in the email the following message is displayed "Do you want to open this File?" after clicking yes the following message comes up "This file does not have a program associated with it for performing this function. Create an association in the folder options control panel"
PDF is already in the folder options
Any ideas?

Thanks. I disabled Protected Mode, and I was able to open the pdf attachment. Just to make sure, I enabled it and then disabled it again, and when I tried to open the attachment, it did as before – Adobe Reader (Not Responding) and Internal Error message. Tried it several more times, (enable and then disable Protected Mode) and each time, Adobe Reader wouldn’t launch (Not Responding, Internal Error).

Reset the device did not help me but it does triggers me to attempt to resend the PDF file attachment on email--and it works the 2nd time. My problem is now solved.
The Adobe Reader is very helpful--it allows me to scroll through the document easily, unlike iBooks, where I cannot scroll straight up or down.

Now my trail is over and i cant open PDF documents anymore. Eventhough i have Acrobat reader. I keep receiving the banner that my trial is over, (buy now)

My iPhone, iPad and G5 cant open PDF or Word attachments on emails generated from a specific PHP written system.

I use iPhone, iPad and G5 receiving emails generated from a PHP written system hosted on 1and1. I cant open PDF or Word attachments on any emails. The attachment's file names are displayed at the bottom of the email with no link. No problem on Windows Outlook. Is it me, 1and1 or the PHP system!? Does Apple OS handle email attachments differently to Windows? Help!?

i have already installed adobe reader XI but cant open the pdf documents. gpt a message that says " before viewing pdf documents in this browser you mist launch adobe reader and accept the end user license agreement, then quit and relaunch.. please help me been in the computer for 4 hours.

Do exactly what the message says: start the Adobe Reader application (but not in the browser!), then accept the EULA.

When you upgrade the Numbers app, the old version is not deleted. It is your responsibility to assure that you are using the one you want and need. Don't be too hasty in assuming that you are being somehow cheated either. The old version of Numbers is far better than the newer one, except for a few improvements to cross-platform compatibility in the "upgrade".
Look in Applications for Numbers 3 and in Applications > iWork for Numbers 2.

Cant Open PDF document-its always ask me to save it first

I can not open a PDF document in adobe reader, it is always asking me to save it first

I have the same problem on some workstations since a while, when i want to open a PDF from the Browser. But i dont know why or even what it caused...then before all was working, so if we hit a link in the webbrowser, the PDF was opening in the Acrobat Reader. Now instead, it open's the "save as" dialog.
I have deactivatet the "display PDF in Browser" in the installation and it is never activated.
must be a Computer Parameter, because same user on different computers has different effects.....
an update to Reader 11 did not solve it....i have 10.1.7 at the moment...so i dont hesitate to update all.....
Browser is IE9 on Win7 (64bit)

Why doesn't it open PDF document attached inside MS Word doc?

working on snow leopard and office 11
I received a file word doc file with an PDF embedded (reproduced on file as icon). Going over the file with the pointer, on the bottom bar is suggested a double click to open acrobat document, so Microsoft Word recognize it as an embedded file PDF type.
Double clicking on it return is following error: "Word cannot locate the server application for AcroExch.Document.7 objects".
It seems that Word is not able to locate the Acrobat application, I went around word preferences and option but didn't fined nothing about it.
Any suggestion?

Is it happening with all the Attachments or some specific one'?
Which email client are you using ?
You can try changing the default PDF viewer to Reader and check .
Are you trying to preview the attachment or double clicking on it to view?

Would you provide more information about your problem so that we can troubleshoot?
What is the version of your Adobe Reader for Android?
What is the version of Android OS?
What is the mail app do you use to read email on Android?
When you try to open an PDF attachment, do you see the dialog "Compete action using" with the Adobe Reader icon? Does the dialog have "Always" and "Just Once"?
Could you tell us the exact error message that you see when you try to open an PDF attachment?
Does the problem happen with ONE particular PDF attachment? Or does it happen with any PDF attachments all the time?

thanks for the suggestions weather15 - the firefox help site you directed me to explains what ought to happen but i cant make it work. I shut my firefox browser on my new machine and attach the hard drive from my old machine. I can explore the contents of that drive but when i search it for the suggested folder " %APPDATA%\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\" nothing is found. when i try and open firefox from the old drive, the browser opens that is the new version that i have on my new computer with no saved bookmarks! Am I doing everything right?

I have tried to open them as attachment to an email, and also as a file in my Adobe Reader XI file...same message "There was an error opening this document. Access denied." This began very suddenly--like something was 'turned off' in the system.

The message means that a file which is needed to run Adobe Reader has been locked by the system. So it isn't exactly that Adobe Reader is turned off, but the effect is the same.
Something to try. Can you start Adobe Reader from the START menu in the normal way? If you can, are you able to use Open from the File menu to open a PDF?

Cant open PDFs in Outlook

Hi - suddenly cant open PDFs attached to emails in Outlook - get a message saying error in initialisation/access denied. This has only happened since the latest updates (using XI) ... it works ok if I save the PDF to my hard drive and open from within the program but who has time?? can someone help me please??

the usual reason, if it's all pdf's - is an adobe pdf plugin not working properly...
look in both HD/Library/Internet Plug-Ins/ and the same folder within your Home/Library/
& remove any pdf/adobe/acrobat plugins you see, then restart Safari
adobe acknowledge the problem at http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/908/cpsid_90885.html
although their suggestion is to stay with safari 5.0.x and/or not update to lion
You don't need it for most pdf's since safari's built-in pdf viewer will show them, or they can be downloaded & opened in adobe reader/acrobat - but if not seeing them within safari is a problem - try http://schubertit.com/pluginpdf/ after removing any adobe plugins.

In Snow Leopard Mail 4, (Version 4.0 (1075/1075.2)) if I attach a word document to a message and, BEFORE sending the message, I double click the attached document to open it, to make sure it is the right one, I get the error "Mail was unable to save the attachment “Test.doc” to disk. Verify that your downloads folder exists and is writable."
The attachment is mailed correctly and arrives at the destination, but the ability to verify an attached document before sending it is essential. This has worked fine in all previous editions of OS X.

I have same problem. I've done the following testing to pinpoint where the problem lies and there are clues (see below):
1. My machine had SnowLeopard installed "fresh" (i.e. disk reformat and installed cleanly)
2. I have a comparison machine running Leopard (10.5.6) - essentially a mirror but with different OS
3. Problem is triggered when creating new email, with a MS Word .doc attachment added. If you attempt to open the attached file in the mail (not yet sent) it produces the error message "unable to save file XXX.doc to disk. Verify that your downloads folder exists and is writeable"
4.However, once the mail is sent, the recipient can open the attachment without problems.
5. I have run Disk Utility and all permissions are correct. My downloads folder exists.
6. The problem is not present in Leopard (mirror machine other than OS)
7. I have uninstalled and reinstalled MS Office. Problem still present
8. I have deleted and recreated the preference files for both MS Office and for Mail. Problem still present.
And finally...
9.The problem is confined to .doc files.It works fine for .pdf, .ods AND even for Microsoft .xls files.
So it may be a MS Word problem triggered by Snow Leopard?
Apple: if you can confirm this is a Microsoft problem it may be able to be reported to them as a compatibility issue?
