Cant Startup MacBook

So I understand that the grey screen with question mark and folder indicates that it can not find the startup disc.
I understand that I need to boot from a new startup disc and repair the connection.
But I can not eject the CD that is in there so that I can put in the Tiger CD to start from. Pressing eject and every combination of eject does not work.
*"Where is the manual eject on these MacBooks, like the older Ibooks?"*
please help
Thanks in advance.
Jack

It was the latter
Then it won't work with your MacBook
what if I do not have the disc that came with the computer.
You'll have to find a copy somewhere, or call Apple tech support and order another one. No retail copy of Mac OS X of any version will start your MacBook.
is there another way to boot from a start up disc.
Not unless you can find a Firewire hard drive with the MacBook's version of Mac OS X installed, or get one of the MacBook-compatible disk utilities such as Disk Warrior, and that will only check and attempt to repair disk catalog problems; it won't help if the OS itself is damaged or corrupted.
Will Norton's work?
No. There is no version of Norton Utilities that is compatible with your MacBook.
Sorry, but if you need to reinstall Mac OS X, you're going to have to get a copy of the installation disk for the MacBook.

iphone 5 cant startup after charge for few hours, what can i do?

    Hi there Liewminchuan,
If your phone is still not powering on, I would next try and reset the device with these steps from the article about that sort of issue:
If your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch doesn't respond or doesn't turn on
First, try to force your device to restart.
Forcing your device to restart won't erase the content currently on your device.
You can force your device to restart even if your screen is black or your buttons aren't responding.
Press and hold the Sleep/Wake and Home buttons at the same time for at least 10 seconds until you see the Apple logo.
If it still doesn't turn on, I would next use these steps to see if there could be an issue with the cable, or power adapter:
If you can’t charge your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch
If the battery doesn’t charge, unplug your device and try these steps:
Look at the connector at the bottom of your device and make sure it’s free of debris.
If you're using a USB power adapter, make sure it's plugged in all the way and the power outlet is working. If you're connecting to a computer, make sure it's on and can charge your device. To charge an iPad, you might need to use a USB power adapter and plug into a power outlet.
Try a different USB cable, USB power adapter, or USB port.
If everything seems to be working, reconnect your device and wait for 30 minutes.
If the issue persists, I would next reach out to Apple support directly:
If your device still doesn't charge or you still see an alert after trying the steps above, contact Apple Support.
Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.
    All the best,
    Sterling

    1. im in sweden and they said at the apple care place there is a 3 week wait, which is unreal.
    2. how likely is it that i lost my data?
    3. i dont have my install disc, is there any advice anyone can give me?

You can get replacement System Install & Restore CD/DVDs from Apple for a nominal S&H fee. You'll need to have the model and/or serial number of your Mac available.
Since you're not in the US, you may need to go through the regional Apple Store that serves your location to find the contact number. Here's a list of links to all of those -

  • Pleeease help! cant boot macbook pro running leopard!

i am having a huge problem with my macbook pro running leopard. i was originally trying to partition my hardrive for windows with boot camp but that failed cause it "couldnt move files" so i ran disk utility with the installation disk to fix the harddrive.
anyways next thing i know i boot my computer and it stops at the blue login screen before it has the option to login with the spinning wheel and does a loop of blue screens with spinning wheel. wont boot in safe mode and it always stops at the same screen. so i looked around on the web and it sounded like a had to archive and install. so i did that and then half an hour in it told me i had a corrupt file and i had to restart.
so i restarted and then it brought me straight to the leopard installation screen and told me that "mac osx cannot be upgraded to v10.5 on your computer" because "macosx 10.4 or later could not be found"!!! i used the disk util to repair the hard drive but it said everything was fine. i cant safe boot, it wont give me the option to archive and install again its only giving me the option to erase my whole harddrive!
pleeease help! i have not backed up in 2 months! is there anyway to get this to start up or back up some files from this point?

Hello and Welcome to Apple Discussions ...
Ok... if you have another Mac, you can do Firewire Target Disk Mode
    To transfer files using FireWire:
Shut down the computer to be used as a disk. Leave the other computer on.
Connect the two computers with a FireWire cable.
Start up the computer to be used as a disk, then open System Preferences, click Startup Disk, and click Target Disk Mode. (Or, start it up while holding down the T key.)
A disk icon appears on the desktop of the other computer.
Transfer files by dragging them to and from the disk.
Eject the disk by dragging its icon to the Trash. (While you drag, the Trash icon changes to an Eject icon.)
On the computer you used as a disk, push the power button to shut it down, and then disconnect the FireWire cable.

  • Cant startup from installation DVD

I have just bought a 2nd hand 13" Aluminium MacBook
    1. I insert the Installation Leopard DVD and restart holding the C key but it doesnt start up on the DVD but on the HDD
    2. I go to system prefs and choose the Leopard DVD as the startup disk. When I restart it cant seem to find the startup dick but repeatedly gives the blue screen and the startup chime until I press the eject key, eject the DVD. Then it starts up on the DVD
    Have I bought a dud?

Did they supply you with the original discs that came with the Mac?
If not, you should demand that they do, or if they lost the said discs, to call AppleCare and send them to you. Without the said discs, you may not be able to boot your machine, or install anything on it.
Mac OS X 10.5.6 retail was released December 15, 2008.
Any Mac released new after that date, can't use the retail release, and must use the discs that came with the Mac, until Snow Leopard is released, or if for some reason Apple releases a newer retail 10.5.
Read the Mac's serial number. If is of the format:
    W80849 to W809xx, XX0849 to XX09xx it can't use the retail 10.5 installer disc.
No Mac can use the installer disc from a Mac of a different vintage or model.
'C' key doesn't always work for booting. If they did supply the original discs, the startup manager may be necessary:

  • How to eject cd at startup macbook pro 17 2011

I used to be able to hold down the trackpad button to eject a cd at startup, but I don't see how to do that with this model.

OK. You have a MacBook Pro, right? On the new model, on the keyboard, at the very top row, even after the letters AND numbers, in the top right key, it has a line below and a triangle on top. That means "eject". Press it. It should work, and an icon on your screen should pop up and then any CD that was in your computer should come out. If this doesn't work, then I'm sorry. I did the best I could on giving you advice. Thanks for reading this!!

  • Black screen on startup Macbook Air 11 2013

    Hello,
I decided to reinstall my OS X 10.10
So after restart i held "cmd+r", open Disk Utility and format my ssd, then start downloading OS X 10.10
But suddenly an error appeared, and I noticed that there is no SSD in Disk Utility anymore
Then I decided to reboot my macbook and try to reinstall my OS X one more time, so i held power button for 10 sec and then start again
After this the only thing i have is a black screen
I tried reset NVRAM and SMC - no results
    Cmd+R - not working
I made installation drive and tried boot using option button - same
Every command I tried - nothing appear on the screen
Can You help me with this?
    Thanks.
    P.S. Macbook Air 11 2013 128GB MODEL A1465

You took all the reasonable actions that can be expected. Read the following Apple Support document to be sure there isn't anything you may have overlooked:
Troubleshooting: My computer won't turn on - Apple Support
It seems unlikely that a catastrophic failure would coincide with what you did, so perform the NVRAM and SMC resets again, making sure you did both of them properly. After that, schedule a Genius Bar Reservation.
The SMC reset procedure is linked in the above document. The NVRAM reset is as follows:
    NVRAM reset:
    Shut down your Mac.
Locate the following keys on the keyboard: Command (⌘), Option, P, and R. You will need to hold these keys down simultaneously in step 4.
    Turn on the computer.
Press and hold the Command-Option-P-R keys before the gray screen appears.
Hold the keys down until the computer restarts and you hear the startup sound for the second time.
    Release the keys.
After resetting NVRAM or PRAM, you may need to reconfigure your settings for speaker volume, screen resolution, startup disk selection, and time zone information. If issues persist, your Mac's logic board battery (not a portable Mac's rechargeable battery) may need to be replaced. The logic board battery helps retain NVRAM/PRAM settings when your computer is shut down. You can take your Mac to a Mac Genius or Apple Authorized Service Provider to replace the battery on the logic board.

Problem: Macbook froze. Held the power button for 5 sec. Now when you restart macbook track pad and cursor works but cant login the user because the password option doesn't show up when clicked on the user, always tried the return key.
Tried: Install Mac CD 1 held C key disc spits out.
Tried: Held down control - command doesn't work.

    Thanks.

Try holding down option instead. I would then goto Disk Utility from the Install disk and verify/repair disk permissions and verify/repair disk.

If you're trying to reset PRAM, hold down option-command-p-r

  • Startup macbook pro: Blue mac logo and spinning wheel followed by grey screen

    Hi all,
I was using my macbook pro from 2012 with OS X Lion installed when I got a frozen screen with blue lines.
I held down the power button to restart the computer and when rebooting, the first thing I noticed was that at the startup, the Apple logo and the spinning wheel were kind of blue, a very light blue, just like the rest of the screen.
The wheel would spin for a while and then the screen would turn off for less than a second and come back completely grey. Once I got the grey screen, the computer would get stuck there and not do anything else.
I've already tried resetting the SMC, resetting the NVRAM and a safe boot won't work, I get the same grey screen when trying the safe mode.
On top of that, the recovery mode is also not working. Even if I hold "option" and select recovery HD, I still get the same grey screen.
    Can anybody please help?

    That's what I thought.
You have the problem as discussed in this -> https://discussions.apple.com/thread/4766577?tstart=0 - thread. It's quite common on 2011 15" and 17" machines. Basically, you have a faulty soldering of the GPU onto the logic board and the bonding is actually coming apart. If you take the time to read just a few of the posts in the thread, you'll see that many have experienced graphics glitches at first and then finally the computer will not even boot. I had this happen myself.
If you're still under AppleCare, Apple will replace the logic board free. If not, they will want you to pay for a new logic board. Unfortunately these 'new' logic boards don't fix the problem as some users have had logic boards replaced 3-4 times before, finally, being offered a replacement.
The best way to 'fix' the problem, at present, is to have the GPU reballed onto the logic board. It costs less than a logic board is a genuine 'fix'.
Read some of the posts in the thread - ask any questions you may have there. I'm almost certain that this is the same problem.
    Good luck,
    Clinton

I have a new Macbook pro running 10.8.2 and I am trying to send midi singals to an Elation Magic 260 light controller. I have an M-Audio Midisport USB Uno connected from the macbook to the magic 260. I have installed the drivers for the uno, I can see it show up in my AMS screen and have created an external device for my Magic 260. When I go to test the setup...I get no sgnal coming from the macbook. Just wondering if anyone out there can offer some insight or advice?

  • Cant connect macbook pro to HP Laserjet Professional P1102w

I am unable to connect my macbook to the P1102w a wireless network. I have studied the videos on you tube and read throught the forum here. I have chosen the Infrastructure Method, provided the Key to my SSID and this appears to have worked correctly.
When I try to select the printer, a "bounjour" connection is never availible, only USB (have tried numerous times with printer conntected by USB, and also without).

Power down modem, router and MBP. Then power back up in 1 minute increments, modem, router the MBP. Then from the airport icon in the menu select your network and provide the password.

  • Startup Macbook in Closed Display Mode

    Hi everyone.
I'm using my macbook with an external big display, keyboard and mouse. I recently discovered I could close the cover of my macbook and use the external as the main display.
The thing is that I hate having to open the mac each time I want to turn it on.
I like to shut it down completely (sleep's just not the same), and I'd like to be able to turn it on from the external keyboard. Any possible key combination or anything?
    Thanks,
    Jose

    1) Clamshell mode only works when the MacBook Pro is on mains power.
    2) When you connect the two the TV must be on before you make the connection.
    3) You must have an external keyboard and mouse connected.
