Cap3: Edit Audio Timing display's thumbnail is too small

Hello ... Regarding Captivate 3 ...
I'm trying to time my voice-over audio to a series of
application scenario slides using the Edit Audio Timing display,
but am finding it extremely difficult because the small changes in
my slides (radio button selections, text input, dropmenu
selections, etc.) are too small to detect on the miniscule
thumbnail used in the display.
Is this poor interface design, or is there a setting
somewhere that allows me to increase the size of the thumbnail?
I've looked around, but can't find one. How do you handle syncing
audio to stretches of small screen changes?
Regards, Myron

Hi Myron
I won't argue as to whether this is good, bad or indifferent
interface design. But it is what it is and as far as I know it
cannot be changed. At first I thought perhaps we might see a change
if right-clicking the image and choosing "Zoom in". But all that
does is zooms in on the waveform.
This doesn't help any, but you may wish to make the
development staff aware that you would like to see the behavior
change in a future version. You may do this by
clicking
here and completing the form you should find there.
Cheers... Rick

  • Edit Audio Timing Menu - Not Playing audio

    Hi -
I have recorded my Audio in Audacity and am trying to IMPORT audio into Captivate 4. When I import this .wav file (that becomes a MP3 automatically from CP4) - and try to Edit Audio Timing to set my slides with the audio - I cannot get it to play any sound.
    Mute is not on
There are wave form across the slides
The audio will play when I publish it (however, it plays across the wrong slides because I haven't been able to set them yet)
I have tried to import multiple different .wav files in different CP4 projects
    I am using Windows 7/Office 10 - 32 bit
I have downloaded the fix for audio for Vista included in a blog post, still cannot play the sound
If you can help - please let me know!!! I am struggling as this is the last few steps before I give this project to my customer.

  • Crackle in Audio after Editing Audio Timing

I've recorded all my audio voiceovers using Captivate and I'm now using the "Edit Audio Timing" tool inside Captivate to line up my audio with my slides.  Crackles, which weren't present before, are developing in my audio when I cut and paste the audio and change the length of my individual slides.  This seems to be soundcard / OS independent as the same problem occurs on both my laptop and desktop with completely different configurations.  I'm an engineer at small recording studio so I understand how to work with audio.  The problem isn't occurring where I'm cutting and pasting audio.  It's happening intermittently during each audio clip.
This seems to be a bug in the software, but if any of you have experience with this and understand the problem, I'd really appreciate any guidance or possible work around ideas.
    Thank you.

    Hi there
What happens if you create that audio as MP3 and import to Captivate? Do you still get the Rice Frippies when you publish? (Don't touch the audio with Captivate at all. Just import)
I once asked a Captivate engineer about this. I was advised that Captivate doesn't touch MP3 and just allows it to pass on through to the SWF output as long as you don't make any edits to it in Captivate. But this was a version or two back. So things may have changed.
Additionally, I would never ever recommend using the Edit Audio Timing. What you are doing is causing Captivate to glue together and re-slice at a different spot with the assorted audio clips.

I'm new to Mac's and I find the display's just slightly too small. I'd like to increase the size of my display for all my programs. Is there a single setting that I can change as a default setting?

You can drop the resolution a little, but it makes everything blurry.
OS X isn't as friendly like Windows is to give some UI adjustment, one of many major complaints about the platform that has gone unheeded for years now.
As a lifelong Mac user who's eyes are going due to age, I'm really liking Windows 7 more and more every day.
If you use Firefox, NoSquint and Theme Font & Size Changer add-ons, with a nice persona that makes better contrast, tweak the FF toolbars, you can at least make your web surfing tolerable on Mac's.
Also you can set a Control key in System Preferences > Universal Access plus a scroll wheel mouse, if you need to zoom in/out certain areas of OS X, however for a pernament UI scale solution there is none that's practical, unless you have a large room, a projector and a smooth wall.
A larger monitor won't work up close neither, however dropping the resolution and sitting back a bit might sharpen the images a bit.
The UI really needs to be adjustable and it's not.

  • Thumbnail Images Too Small

I'm having a very big problem with my new iMac. The problem is the size of the thumbnails when opening a photo from an external program or uploading to a website. This is not a problem when browsing photos with the Finder. In the Finder, I see the little slider in the bottom right hand corner that makes it so you can enlarge. It is only the window that opens when you choose "open" from a program like Photoshop or by choosing "select photos" from a website like Facebook. The window that appears with the thumbnails of your pictures does not have the same slider that is present in the Finder to make the photos larger. I have tried changing the view to Cover Flow and at that point I can make my thumbnails about as big as I want, BUT, then I cannot view additional photos upon multiple selecting them.
Is there anything that can be done about this at all. I use the larger thumbnails for nearly everything I do on my computer and it is almost grounds for divorce for me and my new iMac...I still love my iMac and don't want our relationship to end over this...hehehe...

I don't know a way to increase that thumbnail size, but you can hit the space-bar while highlighting a thumbnail to see the image large-size (and then space again to zoom back out). While zoomed in, you can use the arrow keys to navigate around the file list. This works slightly differently when looking at images in Finder folders vs. images in your Media (Photo) library - in the former, a real "Quick Look" window appears in front of the file browser; in the latter, the image expands to fill the file browsing window.

  • Windows on Retina display shows up icons too small

Hi. I've recently installed bootcamp because I have to use a software that is specifically for Windows (Autodesk 3ds Max, pictured). When I tried to use the actual program, I find that the icons and the contents are displayed according to Apple's spectacular retina display. Yes, I love high resolution, but in this size... I can't really make out what they say nor click them accurately if I'm looking from a distance. Anyone knows how to make these icons and text bigger?

that doesn't work. Boot camp works so that normally other icons and texts are big enough to be seen from afar. As you can see, the menu bar and the tool bar got changed to appropriate sizes. But other buttons (the polygon buttons on the left and content on the right. Not to mention the timeline bar below) did not get that increase. Though this is specific to an autodesk product, I think this question belongs more here, as it is about compatibility of applications on bootcamp

  • Thumbnails in "OPEN" dialog box too small to see!

The thumbnails are  too small in the open dialog box so that I can't see the file I want to open.  Yes, you can make them bigger in finder itself...but I am always opening pictures and I just can't see them!
Almost as frustrating as the column issue.   The name column is very very wide when I try to open a file.. so I can't sort by the other columns without dragging over the bar at the bottom of the screen.  THis is so so frustrating.  I resize but it doesn't stick to the next session.
Apple invented the finder.  Why is it so inferior to windows explorer?

The only solution to enlarging the icons in an application open dialog window is to use the Accessibility panel in System Preferences. Under Zoom, enable Use keyboard shortcuts to zoom.
The first time you have an application open dialog, you press the keys: option + command + =  as many times as you want to zoom in. This will enlarge the open dialog window and its contents. When done, press option + command + 8 to restore normal window size. Subsequently, you can alternatively press option + command + 8 to zoom to the previous setting, or return to normal zoom.
This is as good as it is going to get. The applications (not just Apple’s) only use a subset of Finder’s settings in the open dialogs, and these do not include icon enlargement settings, which as you realize, are part of the actual Finder’s settings. The application development frameworks, and not Finder, are remiss in not providing icon size adjustments in open dialog windows.
You can provide feedback to Apple regarding OS X.

  • TIFF images are displayed as thumbnails but will not open for editing

I have noticed a problem with my iPhoto 7.xx
iPhoto displays the thumbnail of TIFF files but when it is selected (for editing as an example), iPhoto displays a grey circle with a black question mark. This happens with TIFF images from any source (multiple camera, scanner, etc). The TIFF files are NOT in raw format.

Open the file with Preview and do a Save As. Either change the format or keep the tiff. That should fix the files so they can be viewed normally in iPhoto. If the problem is due to an alpha channel in the file this will fix the problem.
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto (iPhoto.Library for iPhoto 5 and earlier) database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger or later), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 6 and 7 libraries and Tiger and Leopard. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.

  • Edit video timing "ghost frame"

Building a project with narrator video used throughout course.  The video is one long file with individual video segments placed and timed on each slide using "edit video timing" in CP 5.5.
The problem: frequently during playback, the video referenced on a slide will display a random "ghost frame" before the correct video begins to play.  This is distracting since our design places the narrator on a clean white background.  The "ghost" appears to be a random frame from later in the video referenced on the slide.
To determine where the frame was being pulled from we put timecode on the video and recorded the screen during playback.  Attached is small video file that illustrates the problem.  Note that each playback attempt may show a different frame.  Each frame will be from the same general section of the video.
Video is F4V exported from Adobe Media Encoder.
    Appreciate any help.
    Jeff
    Video sample is at
    https://dl.dropbox.com/u/17217781/ghost%20frame%20on%20load.mov

Attached are the publish settings.  Based on your suggestion we published at "high" quality and tested this morning.  No apparent change in the "ghosting" problem.  We have noticed that the ghosting problem gets worse the longer the video file that is timed.  A seemingly obvious solution would be be make the video files shorter, however, using too many video files in a project causes audio dropout based on too many Flash player threads being generated.  I can point you to a long discussion thread on this if you don't know what I am referring to.
    I appreciate any other suggestions.

  • Column that displays a thumbnail shows red X if no thumbnail exists in IE

    Hi,
I have a column that displays a thumbnail jpg for a product in a shopping cart.
If a thumbnail was not loaded it shows the outer size of where the jpg would be seen and has a doc gif with a red X in IE but not Firefox.
    I have IE 7
I am using APEX 4.0 and the column is actually the product ID and then has the
    BLOB Download Format Mask
    IMAGE:PD_PRODUCTS:THUMB_NAIL:PRODUCT_ID::MIME_TYPE:THUMBNAIL_NAME:UPLOADED_ON::attachment:Download
so using a decode doesn't work because it still is passing the null to the column item.
I tried a condition for the IR report saying #IMAGE# is not null but kidda knew that wouldn't work...
??????????? How do I not display anything the product ID is null??
    thanks, Bill

    Hi,

  • CP6 HTML5 publish, edit video timing

We are attempting to upgrade a couple of 5.5 projects in CP6 to test video playback.  We use "edit video timing" to place segments of video on each slide.  Is this approach supported in CP6 when publishing to HTML5?  We have not been able to get it to work as expected.
Also, does anyone know if the issue in 5.5 that causes audio dropout when Flash threads reach ~100?  We encounted this several times when using 5.5 and using video on multiple slides..
    Thanks
    Jeff

    Hi Jeff,
Edit Video Timing is supported in CP6 when publishing to HTML5.
Could you please share your project, if you are still facing the issue.
Please find a small demo on the same.
    Thanks,

  • Edit Video Timing: default all slides to end of timeline

    Hello,
I'm working with Captivate to time some slides with portions of a video. Workflow:
    1) Insert PowerPoint slides
    2) Insert Video
    3) Edit Video Timing, line up slides to corresponding times
Is there a way to default all the slides to be at the end of the presentation instead of the beginning? I'm constantly dragging 20-30 slides around, when it would be much easier to put them at the end, move the scrubber to my desired time, and then place the next slide with the "move the next marker to the playhead position" button.
Also is there a way to change the Edit Video Timing timeline to be in min, sec instead of just seconds?
    Thanks!

You say : "I need the audio to stay where it is"
Don't forget that, concerning the audio (or anything else for that is "connected" to the primary storyline), you can always change the "connection lines" so it's not attached to a clip that might be deleted or moved downstream.
You can for instance temporarily move the "connection line" to a clip that is before the clip you're about to move (or delete). If you re-connect the line to a clip that stays still, well, the connected clip won't move :-) !
    Just use Ctrl Opt Clic
and clic on a clip that doesn't move. The "connection line" will move and be attached to this new clip. (and not to the clip that is moved downstream or deleted).
    Very useful.

  • Search results of product to be displayed in thumbnail not list

Im looking to set up the products search result should display in thumbnail not in list view, how is that possible?

Can we have ur screens hots of the app before upgrade and after upgrade.
As per my knowledge of WDJ, SPA by default always had Overview screen and, users had option to click edit and fields will show up for edit.
For making read only we have to make explicit changes, from personalization or from self service admin role etc. May be ur team did some explicit changes through personalization and self service admin role.
To make the fields readonly etc, you can try in these ways:
    1. Personalization
    2. From V_T588MFPROPC settings
    3. V_T7XSSPERSUBTY for the infotype you have to check "Data must be displayed in read-only"

  • Audio Tip: Do not edit audio in Presenter

After much wasted time trying to figure out why is was not playing back properly with missing audio I wanted to pass this tip along...
With Presenter 7.0.6 or 7.0.7 do not edit audio. This includes inserting silence and cutting out audio.
For some reason Presenter created MULTIPLE MP3 files for each slide. I have one slide that has 55 seconds of audio and Presenter has split that into 16 different MP3 files. Some are .5 seconds long. This seems to mess up the play back sometimes freezing up playback.
Record your audio using something else and import one MP3 for each slide and then add the slide timing.

Hey Frank. This is a good tip. Ever since Presenter changed the way they handle audio files, we have stopped recording our audio in Presenter; we all happen to have Captivate licenses on my team so we use it to record and edit all audio before we export to Presenter. If we have to make any changes, we also go back to Captivate and import the changed audio again. We tried working with the Adobe "support" for months on this issue and got nowhere. Each time you alter audio, even if you remove your breathing sounds, if divides the audio into two parts at the place where you changed it. So, yes, for longer pieces of audio, you end up with multiple files. Presenter does "merge" them together when you publish; however, it doesn't do a very good job of it. So every time the playbar reaches one of these split sections of the audio, it has a little glitch.
Now that you can record audio in PowerPoint and since the PowerPoint integration is so much better in Captivate, we will be dropping our Presenter licences. We may keep one or two so we can update existing modules. Unfortunately when the product has too many glitches and the support is not good (we had Gold or Platinum support too), you can't afford to stay with the product. We've used it for about 6 years.

  • Editing audio adds silent sections to other slides

I have Captivate 7. The audio was created as narration at the time of recording the video (slides). I am using Demonstration mode.
When I edit the project audio, let's say in frame 2, blank spaces are added into other frames of the audio file. Often this occurs in the middle of a word so that the audio is now stuttering. It seems to happen in random sections of the audio.
Editing can also cause timing problems. My frame positions move their placement along the audio, i.e. sometimes after editing in one location a word (in a different location of the audio) will be split between two frames when prior to editing the word was completely in one frame.
Every time I fix an issue in one area it causes a new issue to occur in another area of the audio. I shouldn't to have to export the audio to freeware in order to get my project completed. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated!

It sounds like you recorded your audio in one go and spread it across all slides (perhaps during the actual capture session) rather than recording slide by slide.
You need to break your audio into separate chunks.  One clip per slide is the ideal.
If you go to each specific slide and move the audio clip there away from the beginning of the slide at least one tenth of a second, and create a similar gap at the end of the slide, then Captivate will break up your audio into multiple clips.  This will then allow you to edit audio on one slide without affecting other slides or their timing.
