Capital One Approved - Verification

This is probably more of a rant than anything else, but might be useful to others. On Wednesday, July 8th, we applied for my wife's first credit card.  She is a green card holder, her social is over a year old.  Chase had denied her, but Capital One showed pre-approved for the QS1.  Applied, instant approval for 3.5k... I was amazed, her credit report is nothing but AU on my new cards. Friday morning we got a call from fraud for verification, no big deal.  We were not at home at the time, so it went to voice mail.  We just called, one business day later, and they said the case is already closed... **bleep**.  After realizing the CSR (who was polite and professional) could not help I asked for a supervisor (my wife and I were on speaker phone, she had authorized me to speak on her behalf).  Supervisor tried to give us the same story, said it was closed because the SSN was incorrect.  Her solution, apply again and take 3 more HP.  I became, slightly, less polite and questioned how they claimed her US Government issued SSN was invalid, the same one entered that said pre-approved.  Finally they agreed to re-open and asked for the standard copy of ID, SSN card, and bank statement.  Should be good now, we'll upload tomorrow and she said 2-3 days for processing. So... yeah.. mostly rant, but if anyone else runs into a similar problem know that you can push them to do the right thing and actually verify you.

Congrats to you and your wife!  I'm glad Cap1 did the right thing!  Thanks, I was getting pretty irked towards the end... closed after 1 business day and their initial solution was 3 more HP.  They came around, simple stuff that I was expecting, so feeling a bit better.

  • Capital One Approval $100,000 :-)

Yes, no joke!  Approved for both Venture and Quicksilver - $50,000 each (12.9% APR on both). I began the process of purging/consolidating tradelines about 3-4 weeks ago which included closing the Beaver CC (R.I.P.), some older Comenity & SYNCB CCs and a few others that got some benefits stripped away and no longer fit my long-term strategy (~$50K of closed accounts).  My strategy also included the successful consolidation of 3 older Capital One CCs into one.  Thanks to baller4life for the Capital One thread and for her guidance, support and encouragement throughout the whole process ! So, I went ahead and applied for QS/Venture on 7/12, which yielded the 7-10 day message for each (no big deal if denied).  I did not call them and decided to wait it out.  On 7/16, the verifications department contacted me to finalize verification on both applications (no approval/denial at that point).  Since I had nothing to lose, why not?   On 7/17, I was notified both applications were approved.  I really had to ask the agent 2x if her screen information was correct since I never expected to be approved for both at such high SLs (I was assuming they may be tightening up)!  I received both letters on Saturday followed by email confirmations.  This resulted in only 1 HP per CR (EX and TU pulled on 7/12 and EQ on 7/16).  Scores above ~800. Do I recommend what I did for everyone to follow suit? Absolutely not! (Unless your overall profile, income, usage, etc. supports it!).  I'm only sharing my experience and hopefully this thread won't incite negative comments about Capital One   Overall and IME, Capital One has been a decent bank since I've never had any issues dating back to the late 90's.  Plus, these new cards will come in handy for my next overseas trips.

  • Capital one Approval!

So i'm working on rebuilding my credit after getting my chapter 7 discharge in february. I was planning on opening a second secured card next week, but decided to go ahead and try the capital one pre qualifier just for the hell of it. To my surprise they said I was pre-qualified for the Capital one Platinum, and the QuicksilerOne card. So I went ahead and applied for the platinum, instantly approved. Then I remembered someone on the forum saying that if you were approved for one card through them then you would most likely be approved for a second one, so I went ahead and applied for the quicksilver and was approved for that one as well!  Both have a $300 limit which may not seem like a lot but to someone like me who is young, in college, has 3 kids, and trying to build a credit history, it is great. So I guess now I probably won't be needing that second secured card through my credit union. It's only through using this website that ive been able to gain the knowledge to begin my credit rebuilding journey, and i am truly greatful, so thank you! Edit: Do you guys think it is worth applying for an amazon store card? or am i likely to be declined? Reason I am asking is i've had my eye on an air conditioner on there and was planning on just paying cash for it when I get payed monday.

  • Capital One and Kohls

I have been blacklisted from Capital One they do not pull my reports and I have applied multiple time. They were included in my BK for under $300. My question is what do you think my chances for a Kohls card is? If I apply and get approved would that help me with a Capital One approval in the future? Any input would help! Thanks

At some point you will be approved by Capital One. I also included them in my Chapter 13, but I waited five years (I know, a long time) for a secured card. Now I have a Quicksilver and Venture.  Were you trying to get a secured card? I don't know about Kohls.    In my wallet: Venture 15k; Barclay Ring 12.5k; Discover 10k; PenFed Platinum Rewards Visa 10k; PenFed Promise 10k; CareCredit 7.7k; Amazon Store Card 5k. • Capital One Venture Approval and Lowes Approval after verification

Capital One applied July 16th didn't get a decision until July 27 (that's when letter is dated, but I just found out today when it came in the mail). Originally asked me to fax documents, then said documents were too dark and needed to re fax, then EO wanted me to email documents, then I got a denial letter that I couldn't retrieve, reps said it was because they couldn't identify me, theeeeeeeennnnnnnn they said EO never sent them my IDs that I emailed. I have active military ID, drivers license and vet ID from my last deployment. Still weren't good enough. So I was resolved to accept the denial and close my accounts (have investments, and savings with them as well as QS One and secured card). I told EO department this through email. So needless to say, the letter I received today stated I had been approved for 10,000. I previously worked for Capital One and I know that if you have a certain amount of money with them they automatically can recon  your account if you ask but I didn't meet that threshold. However, I think they approved me to keep me as a customer. (come on, I used to work there, sent in two IDs, a SS card and randomly a birth certificate and you still deny me due to not being able to identify me lol) Just glad that's over. Bought some appliances for my mom and applied for lowes card. Was hoping to convince the rep to let me use military discount with 5% everyday. after having to call verification team (this again..) I was approved for SL of 2000. I will ask for higher CL tomorrow. So after much stress to prove i'm not jimmy joe from down the street, I did okay LOL.

ImaginaryFriend, I burned them in 2009 and they've approved three cards for me so far this year.

  • Capital One VentureOne Approval and QS CLI

Hey folks, So today marks my 4th months since opening my Quicksilver card so I decicded what the heck and went ahead and hit the CLi button wasnt expecting anything seeing on how discover keeps denying me CLI's but to my surpise i got a $1k increase. Bringning me up to $4,000!  That was my highest limit card for a total of 6 hours. I got greedy and I decided to check Capital One's preaproval site and I saw I was Pre-qualified for a venture and venture one. Applied for the VentureOne cause I wouldn't spend enough to justify the annual fee on the venture. And bam approved for $5,000. Also, to top it off, its my first Visa Signature! Think I finally broke the $5,000 glass ceiling for me.

  • Declined for Capital One 360 checking then Approved after Chexsystems frozen

Hey guys about 2 weeks ago I applied for a capital one 360 account but was denied because I have a mark on Chexsystems even though I read that Capitalone360 was no longer going to use chex systems....Any who I did some further research and saw some people had frozen their Chexsystems and had gotten approved for banks they had previously gotten denied by. Well I froze my Chexsystems and applied about a day later and.....I was immediately approved no questions asked and even received an email stating my debitcard would be mailed to me. My question is....Has anyone who has tried this trick had their bank account closed?

I just want to say (Mod Cut) thank you to the OP for leaving this here.  Unfortunately for me, this info was posted only days after I had begun my ferocious pusuit of several disputes (read: every single (Mod Cut) one available to consuners) against Chex based on their innacurate reporting of non-DDA acct. inquiries and subsequesnt scoring model deficiencies  which resulted in my app for CapOne 360 checking being denied as well as putting my currently open w/local CU checking/savings accounts in jeopardy of closure.  The company that was responsible for the inquiries in dispute ((Factor Trust)) received, processed, and resolved my dispute within 18 hours of my submission, and then, upon request via phone, immediately contacted Chex to have their erroneous inquiries removed, but Chex couldn't care (Mod Cut) about the urgency of my dilemma and infirmed me that their ETA for removal would be 30-45 days!  Sure glad I filed those complaints w/ the CFPB & FTC at the same time I faxed my dispute forms --- I'm gonna have a whole lot to say to those agencies when they follow up in the next few days. So here I was, feeling entirely helpless and abused by Chex and their and their Top Secret scoring model that somehow identifies me as someone whose much a too great a risk to be allowed to open a (second!)  checking acct, when I happen to stumble onto this post.  I won't lie -- I didn't think it would work, but zi fgured I had nothing to lose by trying so I placed the freeze on Monday night.  Fast forward to near midnight last night when I once more attempt to apply for 360 checking;  I absomlutely expected to be deniedm again - but, to my shock and amazement the application was completed and account opened within 3 minutes of logging on.  AND they offered me an overdraft protection loan w/out my having to ask!!! Thank you verhy much OP for posting this here...you just did for me in a minute of two what dozens of hour on the phone with half that many different agencies/companies coulfd not.  Thank you, thank you, thank you!!!!!

  • Capital One Venture Card approval proccess

So I helped my wife apply for the Cap One Venture card with the 40k bonus offer. The screen shot stated "You are approved"  you will receive your card in 7-10 days but  did not give any other info such as CL etc. When I applied for that same card I was immediately notified that I was approved and my liimit was 20k.  I contacted the 800 number and the recording said that the application was under review. I assume that is under review in regards to determining the initial CL and APR?  Any thoughts, experiences with applying for this card.

Congrats on both approvals!       In my wallet: Capital One (secured) 1917; Quicksilver 5000; Venture 15,000; Barclay Apple Rewards 2000; CareCredit 3300; Bank of America Platinum Visa 2000; Bank of America Travel Rewards 3500; Bank of America Travel Rewards 3500; Amazon Store Card 5000; Discover 10,000. Thanks for everyones help and advise.  If I can help in any way, let me know.  I always read these forums and applied your notes.  On that note, do you think I should close out my Credit One account 1.7K, as well as my Citi and Capital One Bank account's with lower balances?  This should bring my average credit card limits above $10K on average.  I do not use those cards at all, and have no benefits. close creditone and make them send you a letter stating your account is PIF and has a 0 balance - best way to ensure no surprises. I actually called them back before 30 days to make sure no pop up balance came up so they wouldn't report a late charge.

  • Capital One EO CLI!!!

So I recently got my Cap One QS card with a $500 limit. Initially upon opening I had to send verification of address and SSN. Well I was approved with pretty much bad credit including bk7 from 2010 and other silly collections. So after about a month I requested a CLI with EO office and no sucess and was told to try back in a few months I am in the credit step program.  So I tried again online last week and they said they will review so I immediatley called the EO office and was told that it was denied because of too many inquiries...and all the other negative things. But I told the woman the form online said they tried to contact me I guess I had an alert. So I was advised to take the fraud alert off my report which I called and did and called them back for a manual review.  After three days I went online and seen they had a request for proof of income verification I had put $126k. I sent paystubs from one job, a letter from the other and bank statment showing total deposits...blah blah blah.... soooooooo just a minute ago I decided to double check my cap one account and I was hoping I'd fall out of my chair since I felt like chances were good since they requested additional information.  AND GUESS WHAT!!!! BAM $ 1500. LOL it may not seem like much to some but it sure was for me since that card was over limit (dont ask or judge).  So I am super excited now! and thats my story lol.

Thing is majority of the people skip the CSR and go right to the EO. The reason we shame it is because the executive office is for serious matters such as identity theft, wrong credit reporting information, fraud charges or account closure issues. It's not for getting a $500 on a platinum card. Ever notice the majority of people using EO is for a ridiculous CLI of no more than $1-2k? This is going to lead to the EO shutting down numbers and emails for people who actually need it.  I think of it like this. Would you skip over your manager and their manager and go straight to your CEO to ask for a raise? Probably hell no.Yes, I understand the point being made, however, consider the following: - myFICO is a small sample size of the MILLIONS of people who have access to the EO. We often convince ourselves on this forum that we're evidence of trends - but we're not. Reason being is...- we're also self-selecting. These is a particularly aggressive, educated group of consumers - not Joe Blow. Half the CSRs don't know what strategies are commonplace here.- you very well may also be hearing about the CLI contact more often than its actual frequency as compared to other issues (highly likely, in fact)- if the EO truly had no interest in ever dealing with CLI...they just wouldn't. The precedent for credo card companies telling us to shove off is pretty tangible.  Just try try to keep in mind - as I've said on other topics - the world of credit is almost entirely YMMV. Seems very arrogant to me that some myFICO forum folks have decided they know all the "rules," when the rules in most cases are just unwritten policies that change as the wind blows. The EO email and number is not publicly available. Is it on their Cap 1 site under contact us? No. When you Google "Capital One Executive Office" this site is the first hit. This site is also linked in FlyerTalk Forums and Reddit. These sites can reach globally. So please, see the bigger picture than the same 10 people who post in threads. And this site is notorious for assisting in getting things stopped or shut down. The Duck card, the Discover CLI, the Cap 1 EO and a few others. I know people won't stop using it for a useless CLI on a card but that means I can't stop posting my distaste for it. I'm not going to argue with you. You're entitled to your opinion - regardess of if I agree or not - but I'm just trying to point out the other side. This is a great site for information, and you're right: it's very informative and influences are fair number of people. However, your very argument is ironically a precise example of what I'm saying: you think what happens on this site is exclusively responsible for those issues. Seems arrogant to me. • Rebuilding help- need tips for Capital One Accounts

Hi- Thank you all for all the wonderful information, you make rebuilding seem so easy and attainable! I never realized all the different versions of scoring, how to do debt validation, get errors removed from my report and where to focus my attention. Just 2 months ago my scores ranged between 556-580, today they range from 600-611 so little improvement over the last couple months. Here is the situation I am in. I have 3 capital one cards, 2 of which are platinums with $500 limits and 1 is the old Orchard Bank card w/$300 limit. These cards are 6-8 years old.  I also have a Fingerhut account w/a $1650 limit, totalling $2950 in credit of which $640 is in use so utilization should be about 22% (making a little more headway on this util each month). I have been 100% ontime w/Fingerhut for the last 2 years. 100% on time w/my auto loan for the last 36 months and almost always on time w/Capital one except for 3 months Sept-Nov in 2014 where I went over my balances and accrued over limit charges that brought my minimum payments up. Technically I was still on time but the $50 a month per card I was giving them wasn't enough for the min payment. I was in a tight situation at the time, they reported those 3 months as late for all 3 cards.   I went years before this  paying 100% on time every month but always carrying a high balance so they never increased my limits earlier even though payment history was good. Now that my utilization is down and its been 8 months since the Capital one dings,  I applied for CLI's on these cards and received letters denying the increases as they said tehse late payments are too recent. I read that a lot of people have success w/CLI's after about 6 months. I've called twice to see if they would good will any of those late payments, I was shot down immediately the first time, the 2nd time I had a  nice woman but she wouldn't budge either, she politely told me she went back and looked at those statements and I was indeed not meeting the minimum payments & the only thing she could do was to mail me hard copies of those statements. I really only have 1 major collection on file thats affecting my score for a little over $1000 w/a CA that I've never heard from via phone or mail yet they are accruing charges each month. It showed up in my file late in 2014 for a card that went delinquent on about 2.5 yrs ago. I haven't decided how to handle this collection just yet, PIF right now is not an option for me so before I figure out how I want to approach this I thought I'd try to make some headway w/Capital one first on my limits andutilization. Does anyone have any recommendations? I've lowered my utilization while still using the cards frequently, just paying down more and paying on time but am getting nowhere on goodwills or CLI's and persistence is not my strong suit. Do you recoomend I wait until I have a full 12 months of on time payments before I try again?  I did prequal for the QS card but am afraid if I submit, I'll only get rejected for the same "recent late payments" that they rejected my CLI requests for even though they are going on 9 months old.... Does anyone have luck w/a new Cap 1 card while not having luck w/CLI's? Should I try for another card, Anybody get accepted for Barclays card w/low 600's score? I only have 4 inquiries on my file right now. 1 is old, should drop off next month, the other 3 were recent  apps for a rental property, no inquiries from credit cards in 2 yrs. Thanks in advance for any advice!!!

Once you get nine months out from the last late payment on the account (not just a reported 30, but service charge late) they will allow a CLI if your scores are high enough. Yeah, Cap One is pretty strict with their reporting. I really only have 1 major collection on file thats affecting my score for a little over $1000 w/a CA that I've never heard from via phone or mail yet they are accruing charges each month. Does anyone have any recommendations? Is the OC also reporting that delinquency? If so are they showing an unpaid balance? With Cap One, they like to see heavy usage, and low reported balances. Keep requesting CLI's online until you get some joy - you just need to get far enough away from those lates. I've lowered my utilization while still using the cards frequently, just paying down more and paying on time but am getting nowhere on goodwills or CLI's and persistence is not my strong suit. Keep trying every month - use the online link for it, don't call them. Don't worry about CLI denials, they won't be held against you in any way. JUst keep plugging away and check the denial reasons. I was getting the same thing all last year until Jan when I sarted getting "score reasons", then they tripled my limits in Feb. Right now you would only qualify for the "average credit" level Cap One cards, and they are an auto-deny for having two or more cap one accounts already. (its stated in the disclosures), so do not app for any more Cap One cards until scores are in the high 600's - then app for the "excellent credit" cards. Since you have a long history with the cards, you might try Barclays (I was approved for Barclays with 618 TU score), but wait until your last 30 day late is over 12 months old. You're actually doing fine, just need to move out a bit from those lates that occurred last year. You might also call and get them converted to QS/QS1 reward cards.

Yeah, CAP 1 has been doing that for a while.  They do it mostly when your charge declines in the store also.  I was on edge once in a long line and the card decline at check out. When I called, they thought it was fraud and I had to hang up for them to call me back.Wow... this is surprising to hear.  In my case Capital One has never even flinched, even when they have the right to.  I've shopped at a grocery store at 2AM at a store hundreds of miles away from my billing address, and I actually expected to have to call them but it worked - just like it always does. I also recently made my an international purchase over the internet for the first time with my Capital One card; I chatted with them to let them know I was about to make the purchase, and the CSR acted confused as to why I was even bringing it up.  The int'l charge was approved, and I've used my card for small overseas purchases several times since then, all without calling and each time it's been approved. USAA, on the other hand... is a different story.  I really, really like them, but for better or worse, their security is a bit more tight.  Actually, my Capital One card is my go-to if there is ever an issue with my USAA account, since I'm usually not in the mood to call the bank when I'm at the register if I have another card I know will work.
