Captivate 4 Installation from network

We have three Captivate 4 licenses. Our IT department installed
Captivate from the network. It works fine, and we store our lesson
files on a server. The problem is when we want to disconnect our
laptops from the network, and run Captivate as a stand-alone
application--it doesn't work. The Captivate application will not
launch unless we're connected to our network.
We're thinking if we have them uninstall it, disconnect our laptops
from the network, and reinstall it, that would fix the problem.
Has anyone encountered a similar problem, or agree with our
proposed solution, or have a better solution?
Many thanks!

Hey JohnH2001,
Did you ever find a solution to your problem about Captivate not launching while not connected to your network?
I experienced the same thing. I even uninstalled Captivate, disconnected it from the network, and reinstalled Captivate. It started fine. Then I connected to the network, launched it, closed it down, shut down my computer, and disconnected it from my network. Then, boom, Captivate would not open again. I spent 1 1/2 hours with Adobe Tech Support on this. We finally found a folder that didn't need to exist within my registry. We deleted the folder and, voila, everything was fine. It worked. I could open Captivate when not on my network. Unfortunately, after reconnecting to the network and disconnecting again, the whole problem started again. This time the folder (the one I deleted before and was assuming had been rewritten, did not exist!) was not there and so there was nothing for me to delete to fix the problem. So, it's back to square one.
So, how about you? Find any fixes, temporary or permanent?
Please let me know.
Thanks,
Jorge

• Solaris 8 - Installation from network

Hi,
Can I to install Solaris 8 from network, booting installation from diskette?
I have the packages downloaded from www.sunfreeware.com in my disk, but no encountred how install this SO.
Thank you.

I'm not quite sure what you are asking. Solaris 8 is not available from sunfreeware, only additional freeware packages to be loaded after Solaris is installed. Solaris 8 can be downloaded and "burned" to CD from : http://wwws.sun.com/software/solaris/binaries/get.html

• After sql server 2012 installation, I have changed sql server database engine service account from network service user to system user. What is disadvantages of this process?

After
sql server 2012 installation, I attached my production db. Because of some reasons, i
changed sql engine account from network service user to system user by means of sql server configuration manager.
Now , there isn’t
a problem at sql server running system. But
I have doubts that
this can produce problems later. Because  sql server database engine account must have privileges that listed below;
Log on as a service (SeServiceLogonRight)
Replace a process-level token (SeAssignPrimaryTokenPrivilege)
Bypass traverse checking (SeChangeNotifyPrivilege)
Adjust memory quotas for a process
(SeIncreaseQuotaPrivilege)
Permission to start SQL Writer
Permission to read the Event Log service
Permission to read the Remote Procedure Call service
While sql server installation, setup gives these
privileges to network service user automatically, but changing user by means of sql confugarition manager does not give these
privileges.
Now, system user has privileges listed below. And sql server has been running for 1,5 months without any problems.
Log on as a service (SeServiceLogonRight)
Bypass traverse checking
(SeChangeNotifyPrivilege) (Everyone user has his privileges. So i think that system user has this privilege also)
What problems can occur because of this situation? Shall i give other privileges to system user and restart sql server or not? And how can i give these privileges to system user listed below;
Replace a process-level token (
this can be set from user rights assignments)
Adjust memory quotas for a process
(this can be set from user rights assignments)
Permission to start SQL Writer (
? - give advice )
Permission to read the Event Log service (
? - give advice )
Permission to read the Remote Procedure Call service (
? - give advice )

Our server is windows server 2008 r2 enterprise edition. I have looked the bunch of permissions in user rights menu that is in local security policy settings gui.
And i have seen those permissions below were not granted to system user;
Bypass traverse checking (SeChangeNotifyPrivilege)
Adjust memory quotas for a process
(SeIncreaseQuotaPrivilege)
So, briefly you say, don't panic ?

• Problem reading Captivate 6 installation DVD on Vista

I just received my copy of Captivate 6 on a DVD for Windows. I would like to install Captivate 6 on a PC running Windows Vista 64 bit service pack 2.
My DVD drive cannot open the installation DVD to even start the installation. Is there a way I can install Captivate 6 on my system?
PS-I already paid for this copy of Captivate 6.

Well, this is a mystery. After asking the question, I downloaded and installed the trial version and then used the product code from the purchased version to obtain a serial number. This worked.
I also tried out the install DVD on another computer with Windows 7, and it started to autorun as expected.
I then came back to my Vista PC, inserted an old Acrobat installation DVD, which started to autorun as expected. I removed the Acrobat installation DVD and inserted the new Captivate 6 installation DVD, and magically it started to autorun this time.
It must have been my optical drive, but I don't know why it read the DVD this time and not the others. (Never got any error messages. The computer just didn't read any data on the drive and was still looking for media to be inserted. Maybe something is a little misaligned??)
At any rate, problem solved and the software is installed and registered. Thanks for your response.

• Unattend Hit an error while pulling drivers from Network Share

Hi All,
I've run into an error with installing apps from network share via SynchronousCommands under Specialize pass in unattended answer file. I been trying to work on it since yesterday and haven't had any success so far. It keeps failing with an error below.
This error is from setupact.log file and I've just pasted only the error from the file .
synchronously

2014-09-27 06:31:45, Info [SETUPUGC.EXE] SetupUGC returning with exit code [4]
This error is from setuperr.log.
2014-09-27 06:31:45, Error [SETUPUGC.EXE] Hit an error (hr = 0x80070056) while running [\\WDS-DEP-SERV\E\Distribution\Drivers\setup64.exe
/s ]
Let me explain this situation. I've a server named WDS-DEP-SERV which is running my WDS, DHCP and DNS. I've an E drive on this server which contains setup64.exe and I'm trying to have the client pull that .exe via unattend answer file and install it either
during Specialize pass under windows deployment services via Synchronoouscommands or under OOBE pass under Windows Shell setup via FirstLogoncommands ---> Synchronouscommands, but it's not working. I believe that my path format for network share is wrong.
I've searched online almost everywhere since yesterday but I couldn't find anything.
Can anyone please let me know what's the right way of go about doing it? This is the only thing that's not working for me. Below is my answer file, in case someone needs to see what I'm doing wrong.
Thanks and hope to hear from someone.

Hi,
Thanks for replying with your input. I'll go over that and make changes. Can you please help me out with the following as I can't figure this out why my script on the network share run and execute during unattend install?
My script on my network share failed to run during unattend install right before the first login.
Can someone take a look at my unattend xml file
and suggest me a solution? I've highlighted the script paramters in bold. I've also attached my error message with this. Please check it out and make some suggestions. Thanks

• How to stop booting from network

I must have changed my preferences to boot from network on accident, and I cannot get out of it...I tried holding down the Option key, and I STILL get the flashing globe.
Prior to this I was able to boot fine. I am in the process of wiping my HD, and reinstalling the OS. The only thing is that the optical drive is broken, so I need to do this from a USB drive. I have a USB drive prepared.
When I go went to System Preferences, the USB drive never showed up under bootable disks.
NOW, I can't even boot, because I get the flashing globe FOR EVER!!!
PLEASE HELP!
Mac Mini G4, 10.4.11

Andy:
Here are step by step directions for booting the install disk in FW-TDM:
• Boot the Mac with working optical drive in Firewire Target Disk Mode.
• Insert install disk into Target Computer's optical drive.
• Connect computers via firewire cable
• Option Boot computer to which you want to install.
• Select Install Disk for startup and click on the straight arrow.
• Proceed with Installation

PS: Just thought this might still be a problem if you can't option boot. Try it anyway.

• Read-only file access from network volume

I get an read-only file access from network volume problem while sharing a drive from Snow Leopard to a Tiger install. Most of files were opening well, but *.fp7 (FileMaker) and *.xls (Excel) files won't open dealing with a read-only error.
As descibed in the last post of http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1406977 the client have the same share name of the server. Renomming it resolved the error!
Thanks!

right then, as it looks like I'm talking to myself....
I have just wiped clean the Macbook Pro.
I installed Leopard from scratch, then installed Office 2008.
Logged back onto the network share, and the read-only error came up again, ONLY in Excel.
bugger.
Did the same thing with my Macbook and all is fine.
Copy the file to the local hard drive, opens ok.
I then copied the file to another Mac on the network.
mmmm, opens fine.
what's the difference....
mmmm, the machine it opens fine from is running 10.4
the machine which hosts all the data is running 10.3.9
could this be the problem.
Just done a software update check on the 10.3 machine and there are some security updates that need doing.
Going to run that now and see what happens, otherwise I think the iMac running 10.3.9 is going to need to come up to 10.4 and fingers crossed this will solve it.

• Time machine restore from network drive kernel panic

I had a late 2013 macbook pro 15" retina, I was backing up with time machine to a network drive (western digital my cloud). All of my backups are there and the data looks valid. In April I ended up selling the macbook pro, then recently I bought another one and attempted to restore from the network drive.
I chose the option to restore on boot from network device, it properly detects and lets me browse my previous backups. I choose restore, the restore will run for a few hours and then reboot with a kernel panic.
panic(cpu 0 caller 0xffffff00184c0ac1): "Unable to find driver for this platform: \"ACPI\".\n"0/SourceCache/xnu/xnu-2422.90.20/iokit/Kernel/IOPlatformExpert.cpp: 1541"
I've tried a few different backups, one from April, one from march...both result in the same error. Any ideas why this would happen?

Time Machine full system restores only work if the backup disk doesn't need drivers separate from Mac OS X to mount. To make a long story short, you CAN'T do a full system restore with the disk your backups are on.

• Remove windows Installation from Old WD hard drive and Install Fresh Copy on the New One.

Hi Community! I just bought a new WD Blue 1 TB hard drive, my old hard drive is WD Blue caviar 500 GB, running on Windows 7 ultimate 32 bit.
There are two things I wish to do: 1. Firstly, if it's possible, I would like to copy some videos, images, music etc. from my OLD Drive to the new one.
Please note that, I don't have an external disk to do it, I know that would've been less complicated, but that's not an option at this point. 2. Secondly, once that is done, if possible, I want to remove windows 7 installation from my old hard drive, re-partition it to make it just the storage drive, and finally install
fresh copy of windows 7- 64 bit to the new Hard drive.
Please note that, my old Hard drive is installed on windows 7- 32 bit and now I want to install a fresh copy of Windows 7-64bit instead of 32bit, because I am upgrading my
configuration with better ones.
I am adding 4 GB corsair vengeance ram to my 2 GB corsair ram, so that is 6 GB in total.
I am adding 1 TB hard disk to my 500 GB Hard disk, so that is 1500 GB.
Both my processor and mother board supports 64 bit.
Intel® Pentium® Processor G2020 (3M Cache, 2.90 GHz) And this Mother board - "Biostar H61MGV3"I know that you could clone the partition and migrate the installation from one hard drive to another using the Acronis True Image WD Edition Software, but I don't want that.
In simple words, say I have a dos computer, I installed my 1TB WD hard drive, installed a fresh copy of windows 7-64bit. So my computer is up and running. Now, I have another hard
drive which I wish to use, that is 500GB WD, but it has Windows 7-32 bit installed in it.
So what I want to do is, make this old hard drive a complete 500 gb storage device and remove the windows installation from it, without loosing music, videos, etc. and then lastly
copying the music and other media to the new hard drive, and formatting it completely.
I am perhaps making this very complicated, I know you would have better easier solution for this.
I am frustrated, your help would be appreciated, thanks a lot. Sincerely, Abe

Since you don't want to clone the drive (I agree with you), you can just swap drives and install Windows on the new drive. Windows won't complain that you are installing on a different drive because it only cares if you change more than one piece of hardware at a time. The problem will arise when you copy the files from the old drive because you cannot just connect it via SATA. That would confuse Windows, as both installations were run on that hardware. You need to mount it in an external dock via USB 2.0/3.0 which will isolate the details of the OS. After you copy all necessary files, you can use WDC Lifeguard to write zeros to the entire disk and then create a new partition. After that you can mount it via SATA because it will be a new drive. Do NOT be in a hurry to wipe the drive however, as you don't want to forget something.

• Large records retrieve from network took too much time. How can I improve it

HI All
I have Oracle server 10g, and I have tried to fetch around 200 thousand (2 lack ) records. I have used Servlet that is deploy into Jboss 4.0.
And this records come from network.
I have used simple rs.next_ method but it took too much time. I have got the only 30 records with in 1 sec. So if I want all these 2 lacks records system take around more than 40 min. And my requirement is that it has to be retrieve within 40 min.
Is there any another way around this problem? Is there any way that at one call Result set get 1000 records at one time?
As I read somewhere that “ If we use a normal ResultSet data isn't retrieved until you do the next call. The ResultSet isn't a memory table, it's a cursor into the database which loads the next row on request (though the drivers are at liberty to anticipate the request). “
So if we can pass the a request to around 1000 records at one call then maybe we can reduce time.
Has anyone idea How to improve this problem?
Regards,
Shailendra Soni

That true...
I have solved my problem invokeing setFetchSize on ResultSet object.
like ResultSet.setFetchSize(1000).
But The problem sorted out for the less than 1 lack records. Still I want to do the testing for more than 1 lack records.
Actually I had read a one nice article on net
[http://www.precisejava.com/javaperf/j2ee/JDBC.htm#JDBC114]
They have written a solutions for such type of the problem but they dont give any examples. Without examples i dont find how to resolve this type of the problem.
They gave two solutions i,e
Fetch small amount of data iteratively instead of fetching whole data at once
Applications generally require to retrieve huge data from the database using JDBC in operations like searching data. If the client request for a search, the application might return the whole result set at once. This process takes lot of time and has an impact on performance. The solution for the problem is
1. Cache the search data at the server-side and return the data iteratively to the client. For example, the search returns 1000 records, return data to the client in 10 iterations where each iteration has 100 records.
// But i don't understand How can I do it in java.
2. Use Stored procedures to return data iteratively. This does not use server-side caching rather server-side application uses Stored procedures to return small amount of data iteratively.
// But i don't understand How can I do it in java.
If you know any one of these solutions then can you please give me examples to do it.
Thanks in Advance,
Shailendra

• "Access Denied" opening PDF from network UNC path.

Can't open pdf file from network path when opening from Adobe Reader any versions. Opening other files such as word, excel etc that is not opening in Adobe Reader works just fine.
Steps to reproduce bug:
Create a shared folder with three folder deep. \\Servername\SharedDrive\FolderLevel1\FolderLevel2\FolderLevel3\
Give user explicit access to "FolderLevel3" with read and execute rights
Enabled "Protected Mode at StartUp" on Adobe Reader X or XI
Make sure there are some PDF files in FolderLevel3
On the user windows session "do not map the share drive", open explorer to "\\Servername\SharedDrive\FolderLevel1\FolderLevel2\FolderLevel3\" directly.
Double click the PDF files in the folder and it will be blocked with an error Access Denied.
Turn off Protected Mode at StartUp and it load fine
Map the location to a Drive Letter and it load fine
Use Adobe Professional and it works fine
Use Nuance PDF reader and it works fine
Not the ideal solution but if we gave users access to read at "SharedDrive" folder, FolderLevel1 and FolderLevel2 then they are able to read the PDF file. We would rather NOT DO THIS. They are blocked from the lower level for a reason......

Hi Ayenoy,
Please provide the following information:
1) Adobe Reader version on your machine.
2) OS you are using.
3) Is your machine or the shared drive a part of any special file system like DFS etc.
4) Is the user a normal admin/standard user or a special user with roaming profile and folder redirections?

• How to remove confirmation prompt when deleting from network share on Windows 8?

Regarding the question, on Windows 7 if I uncheck "Display delete confirmation dialog" I could delete a file without confirmation whether it's on local or network share but in Windows 8 this only affects the data on local drive only and if I try
to delete anything from network the confirmation dialog appears even though "Display delete confirmation dialog"is unmarked. Are there any ways to alter this behavior?

No, it does not. This only works on my local drives. If I tried to delete anything on my network share (mapped drive etc..) It always gives me the prompt whether the checkbox is marked or not. This seems to be a problem only on Windows 8 as I have no problem
with Windows 7
BTW, my file servers are running Win 2012 and 2008R2

• When uploading large file from network, all other requests are not being sent to server

In our application we are facing a weird scenario in which when we try to upload a huge file(600+ MB) from network, all other requests(AJAX) are getting blocked. But when the same file is being uploaded from local location(E drive) then everything works fine.

How are you uploading the file via network?
If you are troubleshooting the network bandwidth? or the threads where one process takes precedent over the other you will have to troubleshoot the QoS of the network you see this on.
To give a better visual please use Firebug or the Web Developer tool called Network to analyze the requests. The "XMLHttpRequest" will give better clues for Ajax. Reference [http://ajaxian.com/archives/ajax-debugging-with-firebug]
There may be a about:config option that allows mutithreading or max persistent connections per server you can check.
