Captivate 4/Windows 7 no Audio recording

We have used Macromedia Captivate for many years and have recently been considering moving to Captivate 4.  Most of what we do is pretty simple but we do plan to start using some features such as adding audio to our tutorials.  Unfortunately, what we have discovered is that Cap4 and Win7 don't play well together, so we may need to consider some other product for our 300 plus users.
Any suggestions as to how to resolve the problem would be appreciated.  We have tried the basic things of running in Windows XP/SP2, and logging in with administrator rights.  We'd rather not have to change horses at this stage, and Captivate is pretty widely acknowledged as the best product in this field, but if it doesn't work there isn't much point in investing that much money to upgrade.
FYI - I have loaded the demo version of eLearning Suite so I tested the recording capability of Soundbooth and that worked just fine.  That tells me the problem is not with the hardware and probably not permissions.

I got it working with Win7 Home Edition, however you may need some patience to know the details since I'm abroad on a business trip and I can only check my settings by next Sunday earliest.
I don't remember having done something special for the audio, IIRC Windows Update got it right from the beginning, but it was a while ago... my memory is not what is used to be...

  • Inspiron 3537 no audio recording

I have a Inspiron 3537-4864 laptop. The in-built microphone isn't working at all.
The device is shown green in the audio settings, its default device also. I disabled and uninstalled both mic and webcam devices and drivers. Its not muted either. I tried with skype, windows 8.1 audio recording and dell webcam central. Not recording anything. The drivers are up-to-date (Audio_Driver_5F22P_WN_6.0.1.7023_A00).
    Thanks the help in advance.

Hello. There is not an easy or reliable way to test the mic. You can test the audio driver by switching from the Realtek audio driver to the Windows native audio driver.
    1. Open the Device Manager (Control Panel>Device Manager).
    2. Expand the "Sound, video & game controllers" and right click on "Realtek High Definition Audio".
    3. Select to "Update Driver Software".
    4. Click on "Browse my computer for driver software".
    5. Click "Let me pick from a list of drivers on my computer".
    6. Put a check in the box "Show compatible hardware" if not already checked.
    7. In the list of devices, click "High Definition Audio Device" (the native driver).
    8. Click "Next".
    9. On the Update Driver Warning box, click "Yes" (install the driver).
    10. Restart the laptop if prompted. If not prompted, then no need to restart.
[To get back to the Realtek driver,  do it again but reverse the names in steps 2 and 7.]
This tests the driver because if you have the exact same symptoms with both drivers, there is a very small probability that both of them are faulty in the same way.
Make sure that Microphone is selected as the default recording device. If two of them, one is the external jack mic which usually cannot work with the native driver.
Right click on the internal mic and select Properties. Select the Advanced tab. Uncheck the Exclusive Mode boxes.
Try making a test recording using Windows Sound Recorder (not a voip application). If no luck then there is a good chance there is hardware failure.Use a strong light to examine the mic to try and see if it has been displaced or something is covering it. Sometimes it helps to open the bezel and reseat the webcam's connection.
The gold standard for determining if it is a hardware problem is to perform a system recovery (reset the laptop back to the factory configuration). When doing that does not solve a problem that did not exist when the laptop was new then it has had a hardware failure since then.

  • How do I fix bad Quality audio recording in Captivate 4

I am having trouble recording decent quality audio in Captivate 4.
What is happening is after I do the screen and audio recording when I play it back the audio is choppy.
It also kind of sounds like the audio is quickly echoed and then clipped.
Finally this clipping and choppiness seems random when it happens.
I tested this by recording 5 minutes of the demonstration (which recorded with only 1 glitch in the beginning).
When  I just recorded the second half when I played it back in Captivate it  was very choppy again throughout the audio making the complete session  unusable.
I am doing full motion recording of an application at 1024x768. I have tried all audio recording bitrates and have even gone up to 128kbps 16bit mp3.
I am using a high quality Audio-Technica AT2020 USB microphone.
I am running Windows Vista Service pack 2 fully updated with 4GB of memory on an Intel xeon W3503 2.4Ghz in 64 bit mode.
I have installed the latest patch update http://www.adobe.com/support/captivate/downloads.html 4.4.0.1 hoping that it waould solve the audio bugs to no avail.
Please let me know what else I may need to do to get Captivate 4 working like it should.
Are there any other settings or tests I should perform to get audio recording working.
Why would I even want to pay for Captivate 5 if Captivate 4 has worked so randomly for me.
Using 3rd party software like Audacity and even Adobe Soundbooth seems absurd when Captivate has audio recording built in.
For the time being I have gone back to Camtasia on another system because it actually seems to work but need to get Captivate working on my own system.

Try "Rapid Recorder" from store....it works well.

  • Stereo Audio recording in Captivate 6?

Hi, I am having problems with capturing stereo audio in sync with the video, in Captivate 6.  I am making training videos for music software and have looped back the audio from the programme into Captivate, in order to record it's output.  It monitors fine, but it looks as though Captivate is only recording the audio in mono - and there are no settings to change this.  Is this the case?  I really need stereo sound on the input, otherwise functions in the programme cannot be demonstrated correctly.  I have looked through the forums and it would seem that stereo recording was definitely included in earlier versions (as it caused some users the opposite problem of sound from a microphone only appearing on one side).  I am using Captivate version 6 on Windows 7.  Please can you help me?  Cheers, Mike

    Hi Michael,
There is no option to select the audio recording as stereo or mono at time of recording.
Can you tell me that have you installed captivate as a part of suite or it is a stand alone Product?
If you have installed Captivate as a part of E-learning suite there is a software called as Adobe Auditon which also gets installed as a part of suite , which can serve your Purpose , It can record as stereo as well as mono. and you can directly insert the audio generated from this software in Captivate.
And In Captivate also there is an option in Edit > Prefrences>Publish settings.
You can uncheck the Publish as Mono option while Publishing and check if it works for you.
    Please check the screenshot

  • Captivate 5.5 Software simulation video crashes when adding audio recording

I run Windows 7 and Adobe captivate crashes after trying to start a audio recording in software simulation. My simulation is ready and the moment, I click the "record audio" button, the application freezes and I have to go to end the application via Task Manager.
    Solution approaches:
I have started Captivate as administrator and that didn't help.
I have then tried to look up my preferences but didn't find any files which i could identify as preferences.
I have already tried the solution in the Note below (http://forums.adobe.com/thread/759455)
    Help please.
    Thanks,
    A

I am having similar issues, but with the internal speach generator. I have both simulation and demonstration videos. I was able to enter text and convert to Paul's voice without issue, but the minute I tried to add closed captions Captivate totally locked up. And now when I try to do any sort of audio edit, no matter which method of access to the audio (using Audio - Audio Management or Audio - Speech Management or the Add/Edit Audio buttons in the Properties window or using the Closed Caption button in the Slide Notes tab or double click the audio wave file in the Timeline tab) Captivate totally locks up. I was originally able to create 1 file with closed captions but now it also locks up when I try to edit and no other file will let me add CC or use the Audio edit features.
Captivate 5.5, Windows 7; run captivate as admin or not - no difference. Run captivate on my primary or secondary monitor - no difference; run captivate with or without other applications open - no difference.
When I force close using Task Manager I did get a CpDump file that was created. Not sure what to do with that...I submitted a bug but have heard nothing back.
I did follow the steps in the earlier referenced link about deleting the preferences. I also did not find a specific file/folder labeled preferences but my IT group said it was OK to delete the entire final folder in the referenced chain (Captivate 5). Once I did that, I had access to my Closed Captions again and could edit the audio.

  • Audio Recording to Slide Freezes Captivate

I am hoping somebody can help me with this.  I am a relatively new user to Captivate so I sure that I am missing something obvious.
I am running Captivate 5 on a Windows 7 machine and would like to record audio to a slide.  I create a Blank Slide Project and go to Audio > Record To > Slide.  Captivate freezes every time!  Please help me to see what I am missing.
I have imported both Background and Slide audio and been able to edit it but I would like to record directly into my project.
    Any help is GREATLY appreciated!

sorry I am having same issues and are getting no response

  • Can we do Audio Recording direct from phone on Captivate 5?

    Hi Folks,
I wonder is it possible for us to do an audio recording from our phone via a headset with an in-built mic. Something is an audio conferencing on the phone while we have netmeeting to share our documents? Or we have to do it via skype or msn directly which mean a mic input into our laptop in order to record down the meeting on Captivate 5 in full video with audio?

Thanks so much imjolly, I have tried on numerous occasions connecting the HH4 to the test socket in the master NTE5 (in the attic!) to no avail, I'm using filters, I've changed filters over (we've several) unplugged everything, I haven't done a quiet line test (will have to find out how), the speedchecker gives us 4-6 Mbps (just at the mo we're getting 4Mb) and I found these figures in the router; I could find other logs too I'm sure! Many thanks again - I'm optimistic about July!

  • Audio recording redirection in Windows 2008 R2

Hi, i try to setting up audio recording redirection with no success. I use Windows 2008 R2 with Remote Desktop Services role installed and Windows Seven as client computer. I edit local group policy on Windows 2008 R2. Computer settings - Administrative Templates - Windows Components - Remote Desktop Services - Remote Desktop Session Host - Device and resource redirection:
Allow audio and video playback redirection - Enabled.
Allow audio recording redirection - Enabled.
With this setting i can hear audio on my local computer, but no recording devices in sound properties. Anybody know how to troubleshooting this behavior?
    Some screenshots from RDP Sessions.

    Hello Pavel,
    Thanks for your feedback.
Regarding the sound latency issue, I agree with TP on the suggestions to troubleshoot it via hardware/driver level. Based on your feedback, this issue doesn’t appear after rebooting the terminal server. Please let us know if it happens again.
Regarding your new question, I’d like to share the some assessment based on my experience.
After the Remote Desktop Services role is removed from the server, the remote desktop connection will start administrative sessions to access the server. In such a case, redirections audio recording redirection is not supported any more, but Audio Playback redirection is still supported. Therefore, you can still get the sound redirection provided it is configured so. therefore, it is a normal behavior.
Please feel free to let us know if you need any further assistance. Thanks.

  • Audio recording no longer works in Cap5 -- Ideas?

I created a presentation and recorded audio in multiple ways (Audio -- record to -- slide) (Audio icon in task bar).
Yesterday, I opened Captivate and these two options no longer worked.  I don't mean that I cannot record.  I mean that I cannot reach the screen in the software that allows you to record.
Recording in general works fine -- I can record to Audacity.  So it's not a Windows (XP) problem or an input problem or a hardware problem.
    Everything else works in Captivate.
Audio from previously recorded slides plays.  I just cannot record.   After using either option above, Captivate freezes and I need to click Esc to unlock.
I know, that's weird.  If you don't believe me, look here.  Let me know if you see me doing anything wrong while you're at it.
    http://screencast.com/t/0fsLsR5Lh
So, I did what anyone faced with a weird isolated software problem would do.  I reinstalled Captivate.  Today, same problem.
HELP?  Any ideas?  I'm making final edits on my project, there is a deadline, etc. etc.

First thing to try is clearing the Cache using the button in Preferences.
If that doesn't resolve the issue, you can try closing down Captivate and deleting the Preferences folder itself.
    On Xp it's located at: C:\Documents and Settings\<USER NAME>\Local Settings\Application Data\Adobe\Captivate 5
Captivate will recreate this folder next time it starts up, but any Preference settings you've made will be lost.
Also, make sure you've installed all updates and patches.

  • Bad audio recording

    Hey there,
Strange problem with Captivate 1.01, that's happened on two
    different PC with different microphones.
Was working with a file and adding/recording new audio for
some slides .. all working well then without warning every time I
recorded the audio it’s recorded noise..
Worked ok, moved to next slide press record and no go (no
    settings changes, <30secs later).
If I record audio with screen capture it works fine .. loud
and clear … add audio after, no love…
Re-installed application, audio drivers, purchased a new
mic… and still, records ok if capture both, but not if I only
record audio alone. (and it worked before now doesn't, again no
    settings changed)
??? any one had the same problem..

    Hello Paul,
In this first instance I would suggest that you export the
audio files that contain noise and listen to them using Windows
built-in sound recorder applet - Sound Recorder, to do this follow
    these steps:
    Exporting Captivate audio
    1. Choose Audio > Advanced audio...
    2. Select the file(s) you want to export (to select multiple
fies hold down the Ctrl key)
    3. Click Export
    Playing the audio files.
    1. Choose Start > Programs > Accessories >
    Entertainment > Sound Recorder
    2. File > Open
    3. Browse to select the desired file and click Open
    4. Press the Spacebar.
Can you still hear just noise? Also did you record the audio
using Captivate's built-in audio recorder or did you use a
    third-party application?
    Regards,
    Mark

  • Cap 6 Audio Recording

Ever since I went to Windows 7, I cannot capture voice recording at a high enough level in Captivate.  Captivate seems to lower the level -- after recording a slide, I return to the Sound Control panel and it has been adjusted back down from 100 to 12.  It comes in very low compared to other audio.  Captivate 6 doesn't seem to solve this problem.  Is there another software I can use for audio recording and then import into Captivate?  What would you recommend?

If you've been setting the value here in the Calibrate Audio Input dialog...
...then the only reason I know of that something else would be over-riding this value is that you have another application or service somewhere on your computer that is hijacking the levels.  I've never seen Captivate move this value around for no reason.  I HAVE however seen an audio driver conflict (on a colleague's PC at a corporate client site) cause all manner of issues.  The IT techs had to load latest version drivers onto the PC in order to get it to work.  So maybe that's an avenue you should look into.

  • I have video clips with 4 channels of audio, I can only hear audio recorded on channel one, how do I hear the other channels......?

I have video clips with 4 channels of audio, I can only hear audio recorded on channel one, how do I hear the other channels......?

What version of Premiere Elements and on what computer operating system?     Elements 13 on Windows 7
What is the brand/model/settings of the camera that recorded these videos?        ony  PMW 320
When you import them into your Premiere Elements project, what does Premiere Elements Properties for that import give for
the audio description in the way of number of channels? If you open the Audio Meter (Window Menu/Audio Meters) and you play back
the video in the Premiere Elements Editor, how many channels does the Audio Meter display?
I just drag and drop video and when playing back only channel 1 will appear
What is your intended export for this video in terms of audio as well as video compression and formats?    MP4
I think you can only use audio if it's recorded on channel 1 or it does not recognize it.

  • Captivate 8 vs yosemite. Audio speech doesn't work neither on Captivate 7 nor Captivate 8. Is there any bug to fix this problem?

I'm having problems when using Captivate 7 and 8 - specially audio speech management.
As I use OSX Yosemite, I don't know why but it doesn't work properly.
Any bug or way to fix this problem?
    Thanks in advance.

Captivate for yosemite is all around really buggy. I also cant get text to speech to work, but I am experiencing issues with what I call "windowing". When I attempted to maximize captivate 8 to my cinema display, menus and modal windows spawned by captivate often appear behind other windows. In addition, Captivate can't seem to figure out how to maximize to the available screen real estate.
These two things happen to be the most annoying bugs, but I have experienced many more:
1.Timeline is really wonky. I can't select multiple timeline items and move them without the timeline completely falling apart.
    2. Selecting objects that are overlapping on the stage is terrrible
    3. Altering the duration that an item should appear in the timeline often creates an extremely annoying bug where other timeline items will jump to an arbitrary spot. This creates a ton of re-work.
Adobe - Cap 8 is not ready for use in OSX Yosemite- please fix it!

  • How do I get Quicktime Pro for Windows to save audio files?

No matter what I do QTP for Windows only saves .mov files. I am trying to create a new audio recording but the only file type I can save is movies. I bought this product specifically to try and migrate old cassette music to itunes. Any clues as to how I should go about it?

Have you tried Audio Capture software? This is dead easy on a Mac, plug it in and use something like SoundFlower (free) or Audio Hijack Pro to grab the sound.
If you have registered QT Pro you should get:
Menu > File > Export (Options): a wide range of formats
May I ask why you are doing this? Unless the tape version is unique, you should avoid recording from old tape as it is the worst of all worlds. The quality is bad and changing it to digital is not going to make it better even with a lot of editing.
Just bite the bullet and get CDs (which you can easily save to digital from iTunes) or buy the digital version directly. That way is much less painful and you have something you may actually want to listen to.
