Captivate - Table of Content - Status

Hi there,
I have a Captivate course with a table of contents, I have a
transparent button on each page (to stop at the end of a slide) so
that the user has to use the navigation bar at the bottom to move
between pages. This is fine however I would like the status in the
table of contents to fill in when the user moves to the next
screen.
This does not happen unless you click the transparent button
to move to the next screen. Anyone know a way around this? Many
thanks

Suggestion is to rather let the user use the transparent
button at the end of each slide as the nav bar reads the slide
incompletely viewed if you use it to force a jump to the next
slide. Set button as text, not transparent with e.g. "Continue" as
the text. Infinite attempts allowed and set to "Continue" on
success. This allows the slide to finish playing and your "status"
will now complete.
Cheers
Andrew

  • Clearing Table of Content status flags on file launch??

I have a trainin course with the Table of Contents feature (Captivate 4), which displays what screens the user has viewed by displaying green status flags. Our customer may have a workstation set up as a “training station”. It appears as though the status flags in the TOC is cumulative. In other words, of one student comes in, completes the training, and then another student comes in behind him to use the training, all the status flags from the previous training session are still visible. So, my question is…Is there any way to control the status flags without each user having to manually clear them using the clear button? Possibly with a variable of some sort? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

    Hi there
Have you tried clicking Project > Table of Contents > Settings... and ensuring the Status Flag option is cleared?

  • Table of Contents navigation question in Captivate 5.5

Hi - I'm a fairly new user of Captivate (5.5.), and hope that someone can answer this question. I'm trying to set up a table of contents with navigation that will not let users go to slides that they have not yet viewed, but still enable users who have left and re-entered a course go back to any previous slide that they've viewed. Here are some details:
    * I'm publishing the course using the SCORM 2004 setting, and testing it in SCORM Cloud and our LMS (Cornerstone)
    * The table of contents navigation is set only to "Navigate visited slides only."
    * After reading as many of the related posts as I could find on this forum, I've been able to get bookmarking to work - that is, the course will take the user back to where he or she left off. And by using the InfoSemantics TicTOC widget, when a user returns to the course, all previously viewed slides are checked off in the table of contents.
    * However, whatever I've tried, a user who leaves and goes back into a course can only navigate back to the first slide, not to any of the other slides he or she already viewed. I'd like for our users to be able to go back to any previous slide they viewed (for example, to review the section just before the one where they left off, or to review any part of the course for reference after completing it).
Is there a combination of settings, or a widget somewhere, that will let you both limit forward navigation to visited slides only, while still allowing users to go back to any previously viewed slide after exiting and re-entering a course? And this would need to work in an LMS.
Thanks for any advice you can give!

I did have the self-paced learning option checked, so I unchecked it. I did not have "user must past quiz" as required (it's set as optional). I tried adding an interactive button to the first slide and giving it a score. But after re-publishing, I still can only go back to the first slide (not any previously viewed slide) if I stop and re-enter the course. Here are the settings:
    Quiz Reporting:
    Manifest:
    LMS Customization:
    Quiz Settings:
    Quiz Pass/Fail:
Settings for the interactive object on the first slide:
Settings for the "quiz" on the last slide:
Thanks so much for helping me with this.

  • Showing status in Table of Contents

I am using the new Table of Contents feature in CP4 and love
the idea of tracking status/completion of topics in a single
course. I have this setting selected, but it doesn't track any of
them as completed after I've viewed them. Any suggestions? Do I
have to set some criteria for completion or something?

I am having the same problem. I love the new TOC but the
status flag feature hasn't been implemented/programmed very well. I
pause each screen with two invisible click boxes so that my users
can use left arrow and right arrow to page back/forward. The
feature would be much better if the flag turned on once the user
initially views the screen and doesn't have to wait until it's done
playing. The time I anticipate to complete a screen may be
drastically different than the actual time it takes the user to
    complete it.

  • How to change table of content font in captivate 6

    Hi There,
Can somebody please suggest me how to change table of Content Text font English to Arabic in Captivate 6 and which font supports Arabic language.
Please refer below image, highlighted text font should be changed.
    Looking forward for help.

The weird sliding navigation is Apples pride and joy!
That TOC allows you to slide between chapters, sections and pages.
iBooks Authjor was designed to do what it does and what Apple wanted it to do.
Some things can be changed during the books production,  but the " weird navigation"  is not something you can change to do what you want.
iBooks Author is does not produce ePubs.. at least not as "ePub" is known from Pages, inDesign etc,.
If you want what is available in ePubs.. then iBooks Author is not the application to produce it.
You could drag a section page above chapter on and create an index type page using book marks for links - but whats the point?
People using iPads and familiar with iBooksAuthors special way of book presentation.. are quite happy its so easy to use.

  • Status Check on Table of Contents

My status checks work fine for all of my slides, except when I have my "Next" button jump to a slide later down the line.  For some reason I'm not getting a checkmark on the TOB for that particular slide.
Also, on that particular slide, the duration will say "1:03" instead of "0.03."  0.03 is what I have allotted according to my slide timeline.  So I guess it's taking into account the duration for all of the slides that I'm jumping over.  Accessing the slides that I'm jumping over doesn't seem to give me a status check on the slide either.
    Has anyone had this problem?
    Sorry if this is confusing!

I'll give that a try and see what happens.
Although, my "Next" buttons are set up that way on each slide (they pause at 1.5 seconds) and they seem to be working fine.  It's only when I have the "Next" button jump over slides, for example, slide 8 jumps to slide 21 because slides 9-20 are set up as a Glossary, Examples, Resource Information, etc.
I put buttons on each slide so the student can access the Glossary, Examples, and Resource Information at any time during the training.  Then on the TOB, I have these slides turned off so the student only accesses them by clicking the button on the slides.
But I'm open to trying anything so I appreciate your suggestion!

    Hi there
I don't believe the check mark will appear unless the slide plays fully. If you have a button on the slide that is pausing at perhaps 1.5 seconds and the total silde time is perhaps 3 seconds, you are essentially skipping over 1.5 seconds of the slide to visit the linked slide. You might try adjusting the pause point so it's at the end of the slide and see if that improves things. It may and it may not. I'm not certain. But it's worth a try.

  • Slides in a Captivate 7 Table of Contents is not Navigable

This project is navigable from the table of contents until the final two slides.  You cannot click on the last two slides (Slides 45 and 46) to view while in the course.
    - I have hidden the Quiz Review Slide (Slide 47) because we do not want the results displayed.  This does not seem to be the issue. When I unhide the slide, I am still unable to click our last two slides "Practice Session" and "Exposure Control Plan."
    - I have selected and unselected "Self-Paced Learning" in the TOC Settings
    - I have deleted the content slides and created new slides
Please advise on the next step and thank you in advance for your assistance.

    Hi all
One thing that will prevent the TOC from behaving properly is if you have question slides sprinkled through the project here and there. If you configured the Quiz settings so that every slide MUST be answered, you won't be able to navigate beyond the first unanswered question. Sometimes this makes you think the TOC is broken, when in fact, it's simply respecting the setting and not allowing the user to navigate beyond the unanswered question.

  • Import table of contents Captivate 3

    Hi everyone,
I´m using captivate 3 and want to import an external flash-based table of contents, so I don`t have to use the given skin.
Does anyone know if this is basically possible and if so, what I have to do to make it work?
I`m kind of lost here :-(
    Thanks for your help!!!
    Cheers, Eva

    Hello,
I do not think this will be easy. Is your project a software demonstration or simulation (eventually part of it)? In that case some of the slides will automatically move to the next slide, or been triggered by a user action to move to the next slide. The screen captures will normally cover the entire slide. But you want to have space left for your TOC. Since this feature (TOC) appeared in CP4 I adapted it right away for almost all my projects, because I like the fact that the user has a good view of the total content and his progression.
But I never really tried to realize this in CP3. To realize this in CP it will take a lot of work, I'm afraid. Perhaps some Flash-wiser gurus will help you here. You would need a lot of click boxes and 'jump to slide' actions and a lot of testing. And while capturing you will need to leave space to insert the TOC. I'm very sorry not to be able to help you more.

    Hi all
    nitelord, welcome to our community!
eLearner22, I'm wondering which "MenuBuilder" you are
referring to here. Since Captivate 2 arrived, it included the
ability to create a drop-down menu. This option is found in the
Project > Skin... > Menu tab. In addition to this, there is
also the separate application known as MenuBuilder that is shipped
    and installed alongside Captivate.
The Skins menu is intended to provide a menu within a
Captivate movie. Perhaps navigating to different slides inside the
same movie. Although it may be programmed to perform other actions,
such as opening a different movie. While the MenuBuilder
application is intended to allow grouping of a handful of different
Captivate movies, perhaps serving as a front end for organizing on
    a CD-ROM.

  • Table of Contents & Completed Sections

Hi all, just generally looking for some advice here.
I am developing some e-learning.  For now, let's assume there is no quizzing element in the e-learning.  It's just a linear bit of e-learning, the user needs to read the information on each slide, click Next, go to the next slide, etc, and so on.  Let's assume the e-learning module essentially contains four sections (let's call them Introduction, Learn, Try and Conclusion).  FYI, the e-learning will be hosted in the Cornerstone OnDemand LMS.
I want users to have some visual indicator which shows that they have completed each section.  I realise I could use the Table of Contents to show this to some degree, and that's explored in Method 2, but I'd like your advice on Method 1:
Method 1:  I'd like the e-learning to launch on a Home slide I would create, which contains links to the four sections: Introduction, Learn, Try and Conclusion.  As the user completes each section, they are prompted to return to the Home slide.  Each time they complete a section and return to the Home slide, I would like a green tick to appear next to each completed section to indicate that they have completed that section.  It's important that the user is able to log out of the e-learning and return and the sections they have already completed still show as completed (indicated by the green tick).  I assume I'd need to use some sort of advanced actions.  Is this even possible within Captivate?
Method 2:  I realise I could use the Table of Contents, and that might well be simpler.  However, I'd prefer the method described in Method 1, because I have much greater control over the content.  However, if I have to use the ToC, I'd like to know the best way to show the section completion status.  I know that I have to group the slides into a folder in the ToC, so for example I might group slides 2-10 in the Introduction folder, slides 11-20 in the Learn folder, slides 21-30 in the Try folder and slides 31-40 in the Conclusion folder, however each once each section is completed by the user (normally indicated in the ToC by a green tick), this isn't shown as complete in the ToC.  The reason for this, is that I want the user to see the section in the ToC, but not the individual slides, and it appears a section is only shown as completed in the ToC if I show one or more slidesin that section.  Is there any way around this limitation?
I'd much prefer to explore Method 1, but Method 2 is certainly viable if I can overcome the limitation described above.
I'm developing in both Captivate 4 and Captivate 5 - I prefer Cp4, but happy to revert to Cp5 if that's where the solution lies.  Thanks all for any and all advice given!

    Hello,
Perhaps my blog post can help you? I offer a free template as well (it is for CP5), provided you send me an email address (can be done by private message):

  • Table of Contents & Navigation

Hi, I note the Table of Contents allows navigation and navigation to completed slides only.  Until my users have passed the assessment at the end of the course I want them to navigate only to those slides which they have read.  The options in the TOC allow me to do this.  Once having completed the course, closed it then reopened it for a review, I want them to be able to navigate to any slide.  Using the default settings above this does not seem to work on the LMS, students can only navigate forward if they have once again visited a slide first, though the status flag remains checked.  Is this possible? If so I would very much appreciate some tips.  I am not a programmer so anything simple would be ideal.
I am using Windows 7, Captivate 6, 32GB RAM, Thanks in advance.
    Lecutas

    Hello,
You could try using the system variable cpLockTOC. Allow navigation, but set this variable to 1 for the slide where you want to lock the navigation. Reset to 0 (default) for the other slides. You can use the standard action Assign when entering the slide.

  • Is there a way to export the Table of Content?

We need to insert audio files to each slide. There are 127 slides in total, and we need to name each audio file using the corresponding slide's names. To do so, I think to have the Table of Content exported is a good way. Is there a way to do this?
    we use Captivate 5.5.
    Thank you.

    Hi there
The TOC is unique for each project. I fail to see how an ability to export one TOC and import into another project would help in any way.

  • I can't get the page numbers in my table of contents to update when I update the book.

I'm using Framemaker 11 and I have two TOCs in my book: one in English and one in French. Each TOC links to different documents in the same book. The reference page for each TOC is set and correctly displays the heading 1 and 2 I've told it to display, but the numbers do not update when the content in my document files changes to a different page. I've checked the conditional text settings in my document files; they are correct. When I update the book, I choose to update Numbering, All Cross-References, All Text Insets, OLE Links, Generate Table of Contents, Lists, and Indexes. What am I doing wrong? Thanks.

I just tested this out and saw the same result as Rick - a book with child books ignores all generated files within the child books. This applies to adding content from them (e.g. their titles) to actually including them in the output. This applies to all versions of FM since v.9!
However, there is a workaround for this. You need to use the hierarchical book structure in the parent book and create Folders for each book that you want to add. Then manually add the generated files (TOC, IX, List of..., etc.) and book to the respective folder. This is what it looks like for two child books in a parent book:
Note that the child book generated files (TOC, IOR) show as just regular files at this point in the parent book. To get the page numbering to be continuous throughout the parent book, you will need to make a couple of passes. First set folder, files and books to have the Numbering continue from the previous (if you want all sequential page numbers). This will set the page numbers correctly except for what they were in the respective book TOCs. You will need to use the starting page number of the child TOC files in each folder (it shows in the Book status bar when click on the TOC file in the master/parent book).
To set the individual book TOCs to be correct in the parent book, open the child book and set the TOC Numbering to start at the page stated in the parent book (status bar). Now update the child book to set the correct (parent book) page numbers in the child TOC. [This is a necessary manual step, as the page number assigned in the parent book is ignored when th child book is individually updated and FM uses 1 to start off the sequence in the child book.]  Repeat for each child book in the master/parent book.
The final step is to Update the parent book and create the PDF. You should now have all of the files included in the PDF and the child TOCs should show the correct page numbers of the master book.
This whole process of books within books seems a bit borked and one shouldn't have to be jumping through hoops to include child generated files. Please report this as a bug via: https://bugbase.adobe.com/index.cfm

  • Change the table of contents in Adobe Presenter 9

It appears that Presenter automatically creates the tables of contents for a Powerpoint presentation based on the slide title. Is there a way to modify the name that appears with a TOC navigation without changing the slide title?
I would also like to know if it's possible to structure the TOC so that there are main topics and sub topics. For example, in Captivate, you can modify the TOC by clicking on the arrows in the menu to push categories under one another, like an outline:
    Main Topic
         Subtopic Slide 1
         Subtopic Slide 2
    Main Topic 2
         Subtopic Slide 1
         Subtopic Slide 2

Presenter doesn't have the same functionality for the TOC as Captivate. There is some wizardry that can be done if you want to adjust the look of the slide list.
Work around was discussed in this thread: http://forums.adobe.com/message/1970468#1970468

  • Table of contents - seperate not overlay

I want to add the table of contents to be displayed permanently on the left hand side rather than come in overlayed.  I'm assuming this is done by going into the TOC settings and choose 'separate' rather than 'overlay'.  However 'separate' is greyed out.
Any ideas what I can do?  (I'm using captivate 8).

I think know the problem.  Is it to do with the fact that I am working on a responsive project?  The separate option seems to be available if I just go for a standard blank project.
