Capture speed variations

I have a Sony HC-7 HD cam. I try to download to computer. It starts off with "Full HD capture speed" It then slows down to "3/4" 1/2 and down to 1/8. The camera display continues at normal speed though.
How do I ensure 'Full HD capture" at all times?
Thanks.

  • Capturing video at 3/4 speed in imovie HD.  Can you adjust capture speed?

I shot footage using the JVC HD100 at 24p. Even though FCP now handles it, it keeps aboring the capture. I tried using imovie HD, but it keep capturing at 3/4 speed. The audio plays normal, but the video is sped up. Is there a way I can change the setting in imovie HD to capture at a normal speed. My work around was to conform the video back to 23.98 in cinema tools, but this is too tedious for an entire movie. Can someone help? Is this a glitch in imovie?

iM is a consumer product, 24p is way out of its specs...
iMovie is a consumer video edit app meant to work with firewire connected miniDV/D8 camcorders
so, 25/30fps, and HD via firewire, because HD content gets converted "on the fly" into Apple Intermediate Codec...
Is there a way ... to capture at a normal speed?
    yes, buy some 4GHz-quadcore-überMac.. ;-))

  • Speed variations and needing to reset Home Hub

Hi everyone.  Just a quick post to say i have had infinity for almost 12 months and apart from the odd hiccup now and then i have been extremely pleased with the speeds and service
I recently upgraded to Infinity 2 just like many others and am now seeing the same problem that a few others have posted about....i.e. at seemingly random times my speed is dropping from approx 60 Mb/sec to more like 3 Mb/s.  If i reboot the home hub then the speeds immediately return to normal!!
Just wondering if anyone has any further info as to why this seems to be happening to myself and a few others.....( only happened since the upgrade )
Not a big deal really and i am still more than happy to be lucky enough to be able to get Infinity in the first place

Hey, a lot of posts on here have been about this very issue.
I still have to be 100% convinced it's a hub fault though, but getting a replacement can't hurt. Why am I not totally convinced?
Well, I can go weeks without any issues at all - no real heavy downloads, no p2p, no TV stuff, no films - my speeds hold up as expected given the IP profile - then suddenly, bang, down from 55Megs to 0.5 megs. My HH3 did it a few times before my upgrade to 80/20, but I have found that a simple internet disconnect and connect via the hub manager fixes it. You do notneed to touch the modem or power cycle the hub, just go in via 192.168.1.254 using your browser, find the right section and do as above.
We should not need to be doing this and I wonder how many HH3 returns are simply being recycled back out again? Otherwise I can see there being an HH3 mountain, much like the old butter mountains of latter days!
Keep us informed as to how you go on ... if it continues, how often does it drop speed etc. It all helps us build up a picture of what might be going on. Nothing sinister one hopes ;-)
    Cheers,
Rob (and have been stable for a couple of weeks now, no reconnects needed! And no HH3 change either)

  • Capture Speed much faster in 3.5 (Macbook Pro)

I just finished capturing 15 minutes of 1080i from a Sony HDR-HC1 to FCE HD 3.5. 90 percent of the capture was in real time, the other 10% dropped to 1% behind. Compared with capture to a G5 iMac, this is at least a 25 to 40% improvement. More importantly, it allows capture to be done using the ESC key to stop, previously I found the delay made me have to capture everything. Interested to hear other results.

My sister recently bought a MacBook and used the Migration Assistant to move everything over from her 12-inch PowerBook G4 867 MHz. She also complained that the MacBook was slow.
I originally thought it was due to the fact that she only had 512MB, so I upgraded her to 2GB. Although that helped, it still seemed to run a bit slow. I looked in the Activity Monitor and saw that there were a handful of processes that were using Rosetta, such as old printer and scanner drivers.
I backed up everything, performed an erase and install of OS X, and manually restored what she needed, and now the MacBook is very fast.
I don't think using the Migration Assistant is very good idea when going from a PPC Mac to an Intel Mac.

  • Speed variation like a vinyl ? logic 9

Hello everybody. I would like to change the speed of a sample with the speed decreasing, like a vinyl stops playing as you turn the turnable off. Does someone have any idea ? Thank you very much !

In Logic 9 you can use the speed fade. Select an audio region and look at the inspector. You should see something that says 'fade out' or similar. Click-hold on that word and you can change it to 'slow down'. You can have it be linear, or have it curve.

  • Zoom Speed Variation

I'm new to After Effects I've been struggling for a few days trying to get a smooth "zoom" in on a JPG photo. I keyframe the in point, go to the keyframe out point.and using "Scale" and "Position" zoom in the picture. When I render it the zoom starts out very fast and then slows way down by the end. I've tried adjusting "Keyframe Velocity", "Keyframe Interpolation" and "Keyframe Adjustments" to no avail.
Is there any way to make the zoom at the same rate across the entire movie?

Do exactly what you have done. Then select Scale in the timeline. Then go to Animation>Keyframe Assistant>Exponential Scale.
This will set a keyframe at every frame and change the speed of the zoom effect to one that's more natural.
The other option would be to turn the layer into a 3D object, add a camera to the composition, and then animate the position of the camera.

  • CPU speed variation

    I done a test yesterday.
Play a Quicktime hd preview in loop with the info screen.
Use other software to maxime cpu use monitoring by the Activity Monitor
after a few minutes the system seem to be slower the quicktime video fps drop to about 9fps from 24fps
So I figure it could be related to the cpu heat that was slowing down clock to avoid overheat.
But the system fans doesnt seem to kick-in full speed. (like me previous PB1.5ghz)
Then does anyone know how I could control the fan to have the full cpu power when I need it....
BTW: I use a 1.83ghz with the firmware 1.01 and 1.5g of ram 10.4.6 and it was with the powerplug and set to Best Performance

you could disassemble the unit, remove the paste from
the CPU and aplpy arctic freeze yourself in a thin
layer.. then the CPUs should transfer heat to the
heatpipes and engage the fan more readily
other than that.. no you have no direct access to the
    fans or when they engage
    that I know of anyway
Ok let's be clear, I'm a computer technician and I'm use to dealing why PC but I don't have a Apple Training.
I did install a upgrad hard drive in my previous PB. But after looking to the instruction found on the internet i'm really not sure I want to do this myself.
I think it's to damm risky and to result having a dead computer...

  • Speed variations when importing in iTunes

I'm using iTunes on a HP desktop.  When importing a CD, sometimes it will do it it very quickly (26x), and other times very slowly (4x).  I'm curious why that would be the case?  The CDs are part of a multi-disc collection, so it would seem that the disc manufacturer is the same for both CDs.

Wow - this was a crucial find for me. I just converted to Win7 64bit with a fresh install of all programs including iTunes. When I went to import my library I checked the "Keep iTunes Media files Organized" not knowing exactly what the impact would be. I found out that it completely re-wrote the native folder and filenames in different scenarios (in windows explorer). Once a file was imported into iTunes it hated special character like hyphens or commas ultimately converting them to underscores. Itunes also combined some albums into a single album/folder like Elton John's Greatest Hits 1970-2002 instead of keeping 2 seperate albums for each disc. Other scenarios I was experiencing was basically rewritten incomplete album names. With nearly 40,000 songs (485GB) on my hard drive (8000 songs on my ipod) it was extremely painful to see names being changed without rhyme or reason.
Simply unchecking both of those boxes got me back to my naming and filing conventions. Essentially back to good with no further conversion of special characters or file names.
Unfortunately now I am going back and re-correcting all of the folders and files that were changed under the "checked" settings. Much happier with the organization of the database now.
    Thanks for sharing the note.

  • ATI video capture sound variation

I have an ATI all-in-one 9800 pro card.  When I am watching TV, the picture and sound are perfect.  However, when I record a TV program and playback the file, the sound volume varies.  The sound will be normal for 30 seconds and suddenly drop.  Then a few seconds later it will return to normal then it will drop again.
I have recorded the files in several formats including MPEG2 and Windows Media, same problem.
All drivers for both the ATI card and C-Media are current.  ATI support said that there is no known issue.
    Someone please help.....
    Thanks!

In your Sound Driver Control Panal, Make sure that you have Both your Record and Playback sound up to at least 85%, and also make sure that your CD or DVD's sound is not switched to Digital, as it should be Analog ...............Sean REILLY875

  • BlackMagic Intensity Pro Capture Card & (3) 1TB Internal Hard Drives

    Hello,
This is my first time using BM Intensity Pro. Prior to tonight all I used was FW400 & iMovie/iDVD.
I have now upgraded to Final Cut Studio with a BM Intensity Pro Capture Card and Three 1TB Hard Drives (7200 RPM with 32MB cache) - Striped as a RAID set to create ONE 2.7 TB HD for Video Storage.
I have a few questions that I would like some help with.
I would like to capture at the highest video quality possible.
I'm worried that Hard Drives wont be able to handle the capture speed or file size?
I ran the BM Disk Speed Test. I'm just not sure what all these numbers mean?
Can someone please explain to me what the following information is telling me?
Do the results mean that I'm good to go with uncompressed HDV via HDMI?
The first is my OEM Mac Hard Drive. The second is my 3TB RAID set.

I would invest in an external RAID controller.
You can find a variety of such from AMUG in RAID5/6 that will support higher sustained thruput.

  • Rich capture your life with Lumia Denim

If you are an owner of the Lumia 830*, Lumia 930, Lumia 1520 or Lumia Icon, the Lumia Denim update brings you an updated Lumia Camera with fast start-up and capture speeds and the latest imaging innovations that help you capture the best shot. Every time.
We’ve already showed you what you can do with Moment Capture – one of the new features that come with Lumia Camera, allowing you to shoot high-definition video and high-quality images quickly and easily.
But there is also Rich Capture, giving you auto HDR (High Dynamic Range), Dynamic Flash and Dynamic Exposure to really simplify the picture taking process. With Rich Capture, you can shoot first, and edit and select the best shot later.
Let’s do a quick walk through on how Rich Capture works in practice.
    Set the scene
Set the flash to auto mode (recommended) and enable the Rich Capture feature by selecting the magic wand within the Lumia Camera app. And then let the camera do the rest!
With Rich Capture switched on, the camera adapts to the scene and captures and merges multiple images simultaneously with auto HDR and dynamic flash and exposure settings. This means that the camera will select the best settings for you so that you’ll get the best possible picture. And the great thing is you can adjust the settings after you’ve taken the image.
To do that, select the image you’ve taken with Rich Capture from the Camera Roll and activate the editing options by touching anywhere in the image and selecting “Edit Rich Capture”. Depending on the scene and the settings applied by the camera, you’ll either get Dynamic Flash, Dynamic Exposure or HDR editing options.
    Dynamic Flash
The Dynamic Flash feature captures images automatically with and without flash, allowing you to decide how to remember the scene by choosing the amount of flash used in the shot, after it has been taken.
    HDR
In situations where you are shooting a high-contrast scene with a lot of light and dark areas, the auto HDR kicks in. The HDR captures all the details, and allows you to create a more dramatic effect by blending multiple images with different exposure levels.
    Dynamic Exposure
If you find yourself in low-light scenes and you have the flash off, the Dynamic Exposure automatically captures a short and long exposure image, allowing you to dynamically blend the two exposures afterwards.
*Lumia 830 can rich capture too
If you have a Lumia 830 and want to make the most of the latest Lumia Camera features, you need to get an additional over-the-air update of the Lumia Denim software, which came pre-installed on your phone. The new Lumia Camera application with Rich capture will be automatically installed with the over-the-air update.
We’re actively rolling out the Lumia Denim update and you can check the availability for your country and operator here.

  • Wireless speed haircut using wpa vs wep vs no security.

I'm just curious what type of speed haircuts people experience when using wpa vs wep vs no security.  I would have expected something like a 10 to 20% decrease in download and file transfer speeds instead of what I'm seeing.
My non scientific tests are as follows:
                                        d/l                  u/l
    wpa
                                     1.280            692
                                     1,189             338
                                        909          1,602
    wep                         8.089           1,043
    no security
                                    11,485          1,658
                                      4,813           1.072
                                       3,047          1.842
Please ignore the obvious anomilies in the test speeds other than the slow wpa transfers.
The tests were taken at dslreports, but reflect my "real world" observations including transferring files.  I used a linksys 54GS router, a linksys54??? wireless desktop card running on a 15MB cable connection.  The connection was establish using netcfg2.
I was just curious if other people are experiencing the same type of speed slowdowns using wpa.  Before I started using netcfg, I assumed I screwed up, but the information needed for netcfg seems pretty simple and basic.
If this is typical, I might turn the access point off, and use wep when I need wireless access.

    cactus wrote:
upstream results are not the best test scenario, as they are entirely too variant.
For testing, I would connect a box to one of the ethernet ports on the linksys, and then use iperf to test between a node on the wireless to the wired node.
note: wireless is more suseptible to packet loss, so udp throughput over wireless will most likely be crappy. Make sure to test with tcp instead of udp.
It was my "real world" experience that caused me to make the speed tests and to try wep and no encryption.  The tests only confirmed what I was already seeing and was drastic enough to not be concerned about speed variations or anomalies.   WPA browsing was sluggish with d/l speeds of 1 to 1.5 MBs but both WEP and no security was responsive with good downloads including pacman upgrades.   I am usually able to close to my rated bandwidth of 15MBs using WEP with 128 bit encyrption.
The wireless card is in a desktop and would be a pain to connect with a cable.  The fact that I'm getting such good speeds with WEP indicates that the router and card are working OK.  At this point I'm just going to go with 128 bit WEP encryption and try to turn off SSID broadcasting when I'm not using the wireless computer.
I pretty much assumed it was my fault when I was using ifconfig, iwconfig and iwpriv to make the connection, but netcfg2 seems pretty easy and hard to mess up.  I'm really not that concerned about the security with WEP, but I was curious if anybody else had the same type of experiences.
    Thanks

  • GT735 fan speed stuck at 30% under XP SP3 - crashes in games

    Good day.
XP SP3 appears to not let the fan speed be adjusted according to the thermals, leading to overheating and BSODs pointing to
driver deadlocks in ati2dvag in graphically-intensive games.
Even such an old game as Deus Ex crashed once, whereas things like warcraft 3 tft, even on minimal settings, crash after about 10 minutes of gaming.
Neither the fan noise, nor GPU-Z readings (it has a file logging facility) indicate fan speed variation.
Latest, hacked up (for M88 support) ATI desktop drivers didn't change the situation.
Neither there appear to be any utility for manual fan speed adjustment for the SB700 southbridge -- the AMD's own
Overdrive utility is useless in this regard. Other things tried were: SpeedFan, CPUCool, the Linux kernel and Linux's standalone lm-sensors.
Update: it was ati2dvag, not ATI2Diag.exe

Quote from: Bas on 05-February-09, 18:02:55
This is not a desktop machine, you should let the laptop control the speeds of the fan.
And you also should use the MSI drivers as they are adjusted to the machine.
What on earth are you trying to do? Game and make the laptop silent?
I wish the laptop controlled the speed of the fan, but it doesn't -- which is the entire issue.

  • Speeds between switches are SLOW

    Hello there,
we have a Cisco 10720 router with a Nexus 5010 and a Cisco cat 3560G I am using port channel of 2x 1GB links from switch to router.
From one 1 switch to another switch I'm getting a max speed of 300kbps but drops down to 50kbps and back up again. anyone know why this may be happening ?
Also I am using static routing as the configuration is rather simple.

So each is about 6-8 inches from the extreme.
Much, much too close. One, or both computers are likely receiving more than they can handle, so they are overloaded.
You would not want a wireless device closer than a few feet to the wireless router.
Speed variations are normal. Don't forget that there are other wireless networks around you that are affecting things, as well as cordless phones, and any number of other devices. Things will change....all the time.
    Relax and enjoy your network.

  • Capturing High Definition Video

When importing high definition video into iMovie HD 6 the last 1.5 to 2 minutes of my movie were not captured. When importing HD video the capture speed is less than real time and thus the video that is running on the camera is ahead of what you see on the computer. I stopped the camera - NOT the import - at the point in time where the camera reached the end of the footage I wanted to import. At this point in time iMovie displays a message indicating that is continuing to cache (import) the rest of the movie - which it did. If you stop the the IMPORT - then my understanding is that the video captured will be essentially stopped at the point you see on the screen.
    Any thoughts?
    Thanks
    Kurt

Maybe you should try using the Scene-Detection Feature in imovie.
