Capture won't import as widescreen

I imported over an hours worth of footage today. Everything was shot in widescreen. For some reason, upon capture, one clip converted to 4:3 in FCE. I double checked to make sure that the source footage was shot in widescreen. It was. Everything else has stayed widescreen, but just one clip won't come in as widescreen. Any ideas? Should I just try re-importing?

seems I fixed my own problem. There was a stray frame from a previous project that came right before the clip. It was shot in 4:3...FCE didn't recognize the clip ending and continued to export in 4:3...

  • Image Capture Won't Import to Selected Directory

OK, this is really annoying. I use Image Capture to import images from my CF cards via a Sandisk USB reader. I open image capture, select the path and then IC copies the images wherever it darn well pleases. I can do a search and find the images and move them where I want them but I shouldn't have to. I have repaired permissions as well as run Disk Warrior on all drives. I have a PowerMac G5, 10.4.10, 6GB RAM, and a total of 8 drives mounted (SATA). Any thoughts?
    Mike

When Image Capture launches there should be a location showing in the drop down menu at the top of its window. You change the location by opening the drop down menu, selecting Other, and then navigating to a new location, which then becomes the new default location for saving the things Image Capture downloads. Image Caputre saves this information in its preference file:
    "/Users/yourname/Library/Preferences/com.apple.ImageCaptureApp.plist"
If changing the location doesn't work you could try removing the plist, then launch Image Capture and see if the location returns the default (I believe that is the home Pictures folder). There are also two cache files:
    "/Users/yourname/Library/Preferences/ByHost/com.apple.ImageCapture2.xxxx.plist"
    "/Users/yourname/Library/Preferences/ByHost/com.apple.ImageCaptureExtension2.xxx x.plist"
You might also remove them as well if deleting the plist didn't return Image Capture to the default state.

  • PowePoint 2010 slidshow won't import into widescreen?

windows 7 PP 2010.  I open PP go to layout and change to 16:9 ratio.  Then go to insert slideshow, navigate to the folder with all the widescreen pics to be displayed on a widescreen TV. After I choose import it opens an entirely different instance
of PP that has the default 4:3 setting.  If I then go and change layout to 16:9 it also stretches all the pictures.
Any tutorial I've seen shows when people click "create" slideshow it does not open an new instance of PP - why does mine?

    hi,
I’m a little puzzled about “when people click "create" slideshow it does not open a new instance of PP”. Do you mean reuse (import) slides from another presentation?
In my scenario, when I click “Reuse Slides” from Home > Slides > New slides, it adds slides to current presentation without opening slides from a file.
    http://office.microsoft.com/en-001/powerpoint-help/reuse-import-slides-from-another-presentation-HA010338386.aspx
Note: Click the dropdown below New Slides.
When I import slides of 16:9 presentation into 4:3 presentation,
slides were squarer (4:3). I need to change the slide size from 4:3 to widescreen 16:9.
Maybe you can provide some screenshots to let me know, upload them to OneDrive and share the pictures with links:

  • Image Capture won't import iPhone pics

Is anyone else experiencing an issue where Image Capture sees the iPhone photos, but when you click "download all" it cycles through the photos really fast and doesn't download anything? The only "fix" I've been able to figure out is a computer restart, but it's annoying to have to restart when you just want to download a few pictures. My phone is an iPhone 3GS running the 4.2.1. I've had the problem since buying this phone last year.

Bizarrely that has just happened to me today for the first time! For me comes after installing a Canon scanner driver which Image Capture keeps thinking is there even when it is disconnected.

  • PP CS4 won't capture HDV or import m2t files

    MacbookPro, OSX 10.6.4
I haven't done a video project for a couple of months, and everything was working then.
But now, I can't import HDV footage captured by OnLocation (.m2t) ("format not supported"), or capture it directly from my video camera (Sony HVR-A1U). There are also no sequence presets for HDV video.
When I try capturing from the camera, my MacbookPro's webcam shows in the previewer, although the controls in the capture window do control the camera (play, stop, rewind etc.). If I go into the capture Settings, no firewire sources are shown.
I can capture HDV from the camera using iMovie (to Quicktime format). In some respects, that is better, since it does HDV scene detection (unlike PP CS4), saving me a little work. But iMovie won't import m2t either so I'll have to find some other way to convert if for use by PP.
I tried reinstalling PP from disks but to no effect. Before I try full unininstall and reinstall , I thought I'd check here to see if anyone has ideas about what is going on with PP.

    >no sequence presets for HDV
I don't know if this applys to Mac or not, but I have seen messages saying that PPro will, for some unknown reason, sometimes revert to demo status... which only supports SD video, and nothing that requires any flavor of MPEG

  • IMovie HD won't import from Sony HDR-HC1

iMovie HD 5.0.2 (111) on my G5 desktop controls, but won't import from, my new little Sony HDR-HC1 1080i DV camcorder. Same was the case with my 12" 1 GHz PowerBook until, at the advice of a Manhattan Beach Genius Bar tech, I did an archive reinstall of 10.4 and a reinstall of iMovie HD on both my G5 PowerMac and G4 PowerBook and then downloaded all the updates. Now my PowerBook works, but my PowerMac still won't import. On an empty second HD in my PowerMac I installed OS 10.4 and iMovie HD ONLY (to create as sterile as possible of an environment), made the 2nd HD my startup drive, and still iMovie HD on my PowerMac will not import from this camera (although it will from an older Sony VX-1000 regular def camcorder).
Does anybody have any solutions, or any idea why iMovie HD now imports on my PowerBook but after the same makeover still won't on my PowerMac?
Per earlier posts, I tried playing some piano notes in Garage Band, trashing the iMovie preference files, and reinstalling QuickTime (the tech had heard QT 7.0.3 could be at fault from becoming corrupted in certain updating combinations), all to no avail.

I have had import/capture problems using FW drives with FCE/iMovie5 and my 2gig iMac. My canon GL2 works fine but only when no other FW devices are connected to the FW port I use the computers internal drive to capture. If your using the G5's internal SATA drives this (below) may not apply.

Some G5 users have had to purchase a FW PCI card or have the G5 front FW port replaced. Check this link.

  • Importing DV Widescreen from Sony HD Camcorder doesn't work

I bought iLife 06 yesterday. Today I started a new iMovie project and specified it was to be in DV Widescreen PAL. When I connected the camcorder (a Sony HDR-HC1E - the very same as the one that Steve Jobs used to demonstrate iMovie 06 at Macworld) it refused to import in widescreen and instead imported in normal (narrowscreen) DV. Consequently the picture is of course all squashed up. This process worked impeccably in the previous version of iMovie with the same camcorder.
When I spoke to Apple Care, after considerable research they said that this was an incompatibility problem. The camera is incompatible with iMovie 06. (I wonder how this can be when it was compatible with the previous iMovie AND is being demonstrated by Jobs himself.)
I should make clear that although the camcorder is HD-capable, I was actually recording in DV Widescreen (because the resulting file would otherwise be too big to put onto a DVD.)
I find it astonishing that Apple can release an upgrade which does not have the ability to do what its previous version did. Apple Care's advice was to uninstall iMovie 06, revert to the previous version and hope that an upgrade to iMovie 06 "might" solve the problem. What kind of help is this?

Well, I'm here in the US, using the NTSC version of the HC1. I don't have the problem you describe, in iMovie 5 or 6. But the settings on the camera are quite complex, so it could be a setting was wrong when you recorded, or when you capturing into iMovie. Using the english menus, you need to go like this on the camera, while in camera mode:
    P-Menu > Menu > Standard Set > DV Set > Wide Select
and make sure that's in 16:9 before you start taping anything.
Then to get it into iMovie, you have to force the iLink port to DV quality.
    P-Menu > Menu > Standard Set > VCR HDV/DV
    and chose DV.
I am able to capture 4:3 and 16:9 clips into either DV or DV Widescreen projects, and iMovie 6 correctly letterboxes/pillarboxes as needed.
You are using a "DV Widescreen" project, right?

  • IPhoto won't import .mov video from iPhone

I just got my wife a new Mac mini.  It is running the latest versions of Mountain Lion and iPhoto.
She's recorded some short videos of the kids with her iPhone (4s), and wants to organize these in iPhoto alongside pictures of the kids (she's done this before).
However, since getting her new computer, when she tried to import the videos, she got an error message that said the files were an unrecognized format.
We were able to retrieve the videos and copy them to her hard drive using Image Capture; however, she would still like to import them to iPhoto.
    Any help is appreciated.
    Thanks.

There are many, many posts of this nature in these forums.  See, for example:
    iphoto won’t import mov video
For many, rebuilding the XPC helper cache solves the problem off the bat. In terminal try this, and reboot:
    sudo /usr/libexec/xpchelper --rebuild-cache

    Other things to try:
    1. create a fresh iPhoto library and try that.  (hold down opt while launching iPhoto)
    2. create a new OS X user (in system preferences) and try there.
In my case – and many cases – neither of those things work either, which means the problem is system wide.  Again suggesting that the xpc helper solution might work. But for me it did not either.
There are other suggestions that there are conflicts with Perian (on Yosemite) and flip4mac.  In my case uninstalling both of those didn't solve it either.
So maybe one of those solutions will work for you, results apparently vary.  But this is a huge unresolved issue many others are having as well.  I have a case with a senior apple advisor open, still unresolved. His suggestion of course, at this point, is an archive and re-install. I'm not ready to go there yet.
BTW, another thing he had me try was to import the file with Image Capture (which works).  Then open it in QuickTime Player X.  Then try exporting to 480p.  Does QuickTime crash?  It does for me.
    My summary:
    1. Files successfully import with Image Player.
    2. Files play with QuickTime Player X.
    3. QuickTime Player X crashes when exporting to 480p.
    4. Files import with iMove.
    5. Files fail to import with iPhoto (unrecognized format as with OP)
    6. iPhoto import failure/errors are system wide and not specific to a library or a user.
    7. rebuilding xpchelper cache and rebooting in my case does not resolve issue.
    8. same videos import fine in iPhoto on a totally different system (laptop running same versions of OS X 10.10 and iPhoto 9.5.1)

  • My iPhoto 2 won't import videos from my camera, only photos.

Like the title says, my iPhoto 2 won't import any videos from my Cannon SD1000 digital camera, only photos. A friend says it's because I have an old version of iPhoto, which is true, but when I looked for updates it basically told me I need to purchase a new version of iLife. What can I do about getting a newer version of iPhoto, or making it so it imports videos? It's inconvient using the softwear that came with the camera only for a few videos. Thanks, I could use any help.

    JordanFox,
    Welcome to the Apple Discussions.
Your friend is correct; iPhoto 2 does not handle video files. You'll need at least iPhoto 5 to keep videos in your library. There is no other way to get it than to purchase a copy of iLife, either version 5 or version 6. Upgrades from one version to another cost money, updates within a version (ex; 6.0 to 6.0.6) are free downloads from Apple.
Try using Image Capture (in your Applications folder) to upload the video clips to your Mac. You can manage them yourself in your Movies folder.
    Regards.

  • IPhoto won't import all photos at once

I just got iPhoto 08 and also got a new camera. The iPhoto will not import all the photos from the camera (more than 100), but will importa a few selected, seems to accept about 5-6 max. Also, after doing that a couple of times, it won't import any more. It seems that if I start all over, unmount the camera and start all over, it will again allow me to import a few more photos. I still have 96 more to go. This is just awful. With the old iPhoto and the old camera, it was just so easy to import all the photos from my camera at once. I have over 5000 photos on the computer. I am really frustrated. I did not see this question addressed on the discussion board, and I'm wondering what I should do. The camera is a Sony Cybershot DSC-W80.

    Lisa C:
Welcome to the Apple Discussions. I don't know of a solution but as a workaround you can use Image Capture, its preferences set which application to open when a camera is connected, to upload to a folder on the Desktop and then import the folder. If you title the folder as you want the Event to be titled it will create the Event with that name.
I use a card reader to do the same as it will save the camera's ports and battery and avoid possible upload aborts due to low battery and large number of photos to upload.
    Do you Twango?
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 08 libraries. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.

  • Iphoto won't import video from Canon S5 IS

I bought a new Canon S5 IS camera and took some great pictures and video. The photos will import into iPhoto just fine. The videos imported fine at first (I have a few from the first time I used the camera) but now the videos won't import. In fact, I left the camera on all night "importing" but in the morning the imports had not happened and I had to force quit iPhoto to disengage the process. Is this an iPhoto issue or a Canon issue? Has anyone had this experience as well?

iPhoto does not like importing BIG movies from cameras - use image capture to move them to the desktop and then import them into iPhoto - that works better - go figure

  • IPhoto won't import Nikon D70 raw files after upgrade to Leopard

I recently upgraded to Leopard, and yesterday, I hooked my Nikon D70 up to the computer. iPhoto auto starts, and tells me that there are pictures to import. When I click the import button, iPhoto tells me that it is importing the photos, (which are in Nikon raw format) but in fact, it is not. The photos don't "flash" across the screen as they are being imported as they used to. When iPhoto thinks it is done, there are no new photos on my hard drive. A spotlight search confirms that fact.
Jpeg photos still import just like they used to. Only raw photos don't import.
If I manually open iPhoto, and click on file then import, I can find my cameras CF card, and highlight the photos I want to import, and iPhoto will then import raw photos. It won't import them with the simple attach the camera, one click import that I have grown used to. My D70 is a supported camera for iPhoto, and it used to work in OSX 10.4. Is there a setting I'm missing somewhere?
Thanks in advance for any help offered.

I had the same prob with my mac and my D70.
I did an upgrade to leopard from tiger. After that, iPhoto would not import photos. The camera and pics would show up in the app, and would let me try an import, but it would come up with an error saying "20 photos were in an incompatible format and could not be imported".
Since upgrading to Leopard, image capture wouldn't work either. App would run and then wouldn't. Would crash and error. Wouldn't import photos at all either.
I was able to manually drag photos from my camera to the desktop and then import into iPhoto.
iPhoto wasn't the only thing playing up on my mac (networking, file permissions, backlit keyboard, software update, ffmpeg app were all problematic), so I backed up everything I wanted to keep to an external drive and did an erase and install of Leopard. This has fixed practically every problem I had. Do the same if you can, cos it has made my mac a pleasure to use again.

  • PSE 6: Organizer won't import ANYTHING...plz help me

The problem is pretty much what the title of my post is. I installed, uninstalled, and reinstalled Photoshop Elements 6 and whether I try to "Get" photos via folders or single images, I get these two errors. I will add the screen captures of the two windows I get when I try to "Get Photos"
Let me know if you can't see the pictures, please. Keep in mind two things. One, I tried it with the monitoring folders option on AND off. Two, even when I just only have the monitor folder option on and don't try to import any, it still doesn't import them on it's own.
    Message was edited by: DanaNicole76
Forgot to mention I have tried all different kinds of image file types. Thanks!

Well, if you're still having problems, then one of three things is likely going on:
The installation of Photoshop Elements is messed up.
Your files are damaged or the Organizer has some kind of problem with them.
    OR
The Organizer has some kind of problem with the location of your images.
So, I'd recommend that you start off by removing Photoshop Elements by following this document:
http://go.adobe.com/kb/ts_kb408483_en-us (For Vista, see this document instead: http://go.adobe.com/kb/ts_kb406487_en-us)
Then, re-install, but do it by following solution 14 in this document:
http://go.adobe.com/kb/ts_kb406559_en-us (For Vista, see solution 15 in this document instead: http://go.adobe.com/kb/ts_kb406560_en-us)
If it still won't import, then it's the files or their location. So, tell us more about the file names, and the complete location (the drive and full folder path) and hopefully we can help you find out what's wrong with this part.
