Capturing desktop for tutorial?
I need to record interactive tutorials for IT students in 800 x 600 resolution. However, this size does not enable me to capture the whole desk top screen, although this is not a problem when recording tutorials in specific software such as Word, as I can choose the open window from the drop down list and go to snap to fit. I need to be able to point to Start button, demonstrate how to open a program (so nothing but the desk top is available at this point) and then point to buttons in the Word toolbar, for instance.
I have tried recording in an increased size, but after resizing the project down to 800 x 600 text boxes and general quality is inferior.

HD/SD Blackmagic Capture Card for G5 Quad Power PC
Hi,
Can someone give me some advice on buying a good, reasonably priced capture card for my G5 powerpc quad. Its still running very well and I'd like to extend its professional use for a little bit
longer as I suspect that the next incarnation of desktops is possible months away.
I'm assuming a BlackMagic card is best suited due to my limited budget but I'm open to suggestion.You haven't said what formats you're hoping to capture, but I'd imagine one of Blackmagic's Decklink cards would work for you (Intensity Pro is not compatible with non-Intel macs).

Log and capture problems for HDV using FCP 5.0.1
I cant seem to get a picture in my log and capture browser when using HDV. The screen says my camera is connected, I see timecode correctly rolling in sync with my cameras timecode, I can use the controls, but no picture on the screen?
When I hit capture now, the capture screen pops up and gives a message "waiting for data from device".
we shot at 720p at 25fps, there is no capture preset for this in my version of FCP. Could this be the problem? Please help!!Thanks for responding.
It's a mac osx 10.4.11 and a 2 ghz intel core duo. I'm using easy set up in final cut pro, but there is no option for hd fire wire basic (which apple support told me to look for). The only hd options are 1080i50, i60 and 720 p30. The other hd options are for the apple intermediate codec. When I use the easy set up for hd 1080i60, then go to log and capture, it doesn't give me the preview window to set in's out, batch capture etc. It only lets me capture straight from the camera and I have to manually stop it and start it which is a major pain. Plus the clips need to be rendered once I put them in a timeline. I've shot and edited on mini dv with final cut for nearly 7 years, but now that i've tried to upgrade and shoot hd mini dv, all of these problems have arrived in capturing. I'm starting to think my version of final cut pro (5.0.1) just doesn't work with hd, unless it's very time consuming. Any ideas? -
Video capture driver for MSI GeForce 2 Pro video card
Hi,
I am in need of the nVidia WDM video capture driver for my Geforce 2 Pro video card. Model #M-8831. I was able to download it from the MSI/TW website over a year ago just fine. My computer crashed from a game bug a couple of months ago and MSI/TW does not list the capture driver I need any longer. I did email the company asking for help with no response back yet (after 2 weeks). You people may be my last hope.
I do have the cd that came with the video card, but I've never been able to install the capture driver from it. There is a button to install it, but it never gets loaded. I've tried browsing the cd and also tried installing it using the windows wizards with zero results. My only successful install was from the MSI home website.
If you need more information, please let me know.

Try these 3 solutions
1. Did you start vncserver services as:
service vncserver start
2.Check that port 5901 has not been blocked by a firewall:
# nc -vz localhost 5901
You should get a connection and a termination. If you get an error, fix the firewall.
3. service iptables stop

How to use Oracle OAB Fast Formulas in Discoverer-desktop [ for reporting]

Can anyone tell me how to use a fast formula in discoverer-desktop [for reporting]. Currently, we have a disco-report that calcuates the 'monthly salary', but we don't want to use that. Instead, we have a custom fast-formula [xx_oab_monthly_salary] which has the conditions and calculations that we need.
I want to use that formula in discoverer-desktop directly and get the monthly-salary.. i.e., someone needs to create a folder under the business area and add it i believe.. the formula internally calls a function.
when i checked about this with my dba - he said, he can add the 'function', but not the formula. and i need to write the calculation part...
does anyone know how to add it...there shud a way right...
i do not have access to the technical-stuff here..

For a single formula, in general my recommendation is to recreate the fast formula instead of using the ff_exec call].

That's right you need to develop the pl/sql function outside of Discoverer using a pl/sql tool or just SQL*plus. I haven't an example to hand, but can dig one up if you need it. Once you have the function developed you can map it into the EUL using Discoverer Administrator. It will then be available to Discoverer Desktop/Plus as a database function when creating calculations. So you can then just add the calculation to an existing or new report.
Alternatively, you can build the pl/sql function into a view and load the view into a new folder using Discoverer Admin.

Hello! Just like the title, is there a way to create a "common desktop" for all RD/TS 2012 users?
I know how to do this using regular W7 workstations and 2008 Servers, but the "Default" folder under the USERS directory is gone and I'm not sure how to get the icons there in Windows 8, let alone Server 2012 Remote Desktop.
I've installed Office 2010 on the 2012 server, but every end user that logs in has to manually type in "Word," "Excel." "PowerPoint." etc from the metro interface, then right-click each icon to add the shortcut to the desktop.
Given the... uh.. unfamiliarity of our endusers around the computer, this really isn't the best option. What I'd like is them to log on and have all the Office icons ready and availible for them.
Any ideas?

I have Windows 8.1. I have had PageMaker 7.0.1 working fine on desktop for MANY years. Had to get a new hard drive. Now computer doesn't read the PM DVD. so I can't reinstall it. Can anyone help?

What is the size of capture window for MX440-VTD8X?
I am trying to figure out how best to resize video I have captured with my MX440-VTD8X. For the application I am using (AVISynth) I need to calculate the PAR (Pixel Aspect Ratio), for this I need to know the size of the capture window for my video capture card.
I think that this card uses a Philps SAA-7114H, although I cannot be certain as MSI don't seem to publish this fact anywhere. (I found a few references to the 7114 via Google so that is the best lead I have had so far).
Anyway, even if I knew it used a 7114H that doesn't much help as I can't find any published data that tells me what the capture window (in microseconds) is for this card. The WDM driver might modify the window so how, so I can't just look it up in the datasheet for the 7114H.
I am looking for figures for the capture window for both PAL and NTSC,
could someone please help?

A method for determining this value yourself can be found in chapter 11.
Once you know the capture window width, the Image Aspect Ratio of your device can be calculated as:
PAL IAR = (4 / 3) * ([window width in µs] / 52.0 µs) / (576/576)
NTSC IAR = (4 / 3) * ([window width in µs] / 52.6555 µs) / (480/486) "
The 'window width' is given for some capture cards in the guide, but unfortunately not the MSI one I am using, and the 'window width' does vary from one type of capture card to another.
Without this information I am at a brick wall. There is a method to determine the window by using a PAL DVD player as the source video, playing some test image, the problem is that I only have an NTSC DVD player so I can't use that technique,
this is something that the manufacturer must know, but unfortunately they rarely publish it,

Is snow lepoard 10.6.8 compatiable with aol desktop for mac?
I updated my aol desktop for mac to the 1.7.763 version and Im running snow leopard 10.6.8 on my imac.Im now haveing all kinds of issues useing the aol desktop for mac.Mail wont open and sometimes it does, web pages dont load, freeze ups in the mail part of aol. I s any one else haveing this issue? Some tec from aol told me its not comptiable. I could not find anywhere it says it isnt.I tried resetting Safari and it worked for awhile than started to act up again.I dont see why I should have to upgrade to mountain lion to have to be able to use the aol desktop.Im quite happy with snow leopard and Ive seen some bad reviews with mountain lion. Are there any fixes or Im wondering if apple is going to resolve this.Very frustrateing. Thanks for any ones time. Darlene

I have the same question. It seems that Adobe is almost impossible to contact (I ended up here at the forums to ask the same question).
I will never buy another Adobe product again if I can get another program to replace it. If this is customer service then it is NON EXISTENT!
I notice that your question has not been answered and why should you have to get the information from a forum? I know of no other company that makes you do this for simple product information.
NOT HAPPY with this version of arrogant customer service (nor am I happy about renting Photoshop products into the future - it is just a money grab in my opinion). I will be voting with my feet and going elsewhere in future.
