Carrying motion effects from 30fps to 24fps project for online

I'm working on this program where they transfered their dailies footage to HDCam, then they downconvert their dailies to DVCam letterbox with burns. There are some effects (split screen, crop) on the motion window and now it's time for the online and the effects look all out of place. The cuts are at the right spots, but the placement in the screen is out of whack. They are all on top of one another and squezzed in.
Let me explain the shot: 3 people all talking but each one of them is in a diferent split screen, then all 3 of them show up. 1 person occupies the top left, the other one the top right and the last one at the bottom of the screen.
The DVCam downconvert of the masters are lettebox with burns, and it seems that the effects won't apply to the HD online since all the effects look squeezed together (like it was made for 4:3 instead of 16:9)
Now, my question, does anyone know how to transfer the effects from a 30 fps project to a 24 fps project? More specifically, how do I transfer the effects made on the "motion" windows to work on an 23.98 timeline.
Thank you in advance for your help.

The red & white checkerbox means that in the rendering process it cannot find the media.
Strange why this happens on only two instances though
Have you tried trashing your prefs and repairing permissions.
Could you render directly out of Motion and then drop the movie into FCP?

  • ERROR: red-white checkered box when exporting Motion effects from FCP-COMPR

Hello, im having an export issue with motion clips inside Final Cut Pro 2.
I exported the shortfilm using quicktime-same as project.
Suddently in the exported file i get red and white chekered box where the motion effect takes place.
Im using chroma to replace images from a tv set, i use the same effect around 15 times across the shortfilm, but only in two places it shows this red & white box...
Does anyone knows why this happens, how can i solve it?
I tird to export using compressor, but in compressor´s preview window, it shows exactly this red and white box everytime my motion efects apears.
    PLEASE HELP!!!!

  • I just find out many images missing from my most important project for no reason and don´t know what to do!

I was checking my SDHC cards to see which ones had already been downloaded to my computer and sudenly after I inserted one of the cards an anouncement poped out telling me Aperture had trouble importing many files... since this card had already been downloaded in one of my projects and had been working on some of the pictures I did not mind and took the card out and formated it in my camera (as I said before all the pictures had been downloaded before!) and I went to work on Apperture. When I opened the project I was going to work in I found lots of pictures missing!
I don´t know how to recover this pictures or if it can be done!
This is my most important project to date!
I will greatly appreciate any help.
    Alberto Ayala

    Hello Léonie,
I will try to be more specific:
I inserted my memory card and opened Aperture. I Pressed import and chose an existing project as a destination after choosing only the pictures I wanted to keep for imediate use (done this same precedure before). The importing procedure started and everything was "normal" but the "procesing" indicator (the spinning circle in the low left corner) never stoped (even the day after) so I quit Aperture, turned of my computer and took out the memory card.
Later I restarted my computer, oppened Aperture and saw all the pictures I wanted there, I even made versions and worked on some of them and everything was fine so far... The big problem came when I was cheking my memory cards -days later- to erase some of them for reuse and to make a back up copy of the full card in a diferent folder on the desktop of my computer (as I told before In Aperture only downloaded some pictures) and inserted the card that presented the continus "procesing" inconvinience: Somehow it created a link to Aperture and a notification poped telling me that some files where unable to download...
Since I had already seen and worked with the files in Aperture I thought the message was a mistake (the files had been imported ok before!) so I took out the card and reformated it in my camera (BIG MISTAKE!) and for my surprise when I wanted to work with this files and their versions and opened Aperture all of them were gone as If they had never been imported!
I opened the back up folder on my desktop just to find none of the files was saved there even though the downloading had run fine...
I tried to restore my Aperture library from Time Machine this morning but I think I made another BIG MISTAKE when answered to replace my library instead of keeping both... I found some files replaced, none of the diferent versions I had done, some files missing, some foulty tumbnails and God knows what else...
I´m very frustrated and disapointed and don´t know if there is anything I can still do to recover my files...
I don´t know if I should blame Apple´s Aperture or the card´s manufacturer for the origin of this problem but how can I trust my work to this combination of factors?
Thanks for your concern Léonie and have a good new year!

  • I get error message "user parameter list" is stopping me from preparing a iMovie project for export.

I am trying to share a 1 hour movie via idvd. I keep getting an error message saying user parameter list is preventing publishing. What do I need to change?

    Bartirn,
I called Apple under my Mac support contract.  They were completely unfamiliar with the error you and I were encountering.   Updating to 10.8.5 didn't help.
I'm stopping my TimeCapsule while I perform these tasks, but I don't know yet if I have a consistent work-around.

  • Export video from Adobe Premiere Pro CS4 for online upload?

I need to upload a video I made in premiere but it shouldn't be bigger than 100MB for fast upload and still retain most of the quality. What format and codec should I choose? I tried divx and xvid but they ended up extremely jerky and awful.
The video is 720p and 55sec.

In both cases, the best thing to do would be to get the required/suggested specs. from each of those. In the case of YouTube, their specs seem to change often. Right now (last time I looked), it seems that most people are going with the H.264 CODEC for YouTube, and seem pleased.
I have no clue as to FaceBook, but maybe someone else will know it. Still, they should have a FAQ someplace with their requirements/specifications. They may be the exact same as YouTube, or totally different, in which case you would be better off doing two Exports - one for each use.
    Good luck,

  • Premiere Elements 9 Lose Motion Effects after Share

    Hi all,
I seem to be having a serious issue after sharing/exporting my video:
I have recently finished a 20-minute informational video for work that involves lots of screen capture of my desktop. The screen capture was done with VLC media player. Once I imported the screen capture (.mp4) videos in adobe premiere, I used the motion effect to only display the part of the screen that I want to by changing the scale and position fields for the entire duration of these screen capture videos. Watching the video in premiere after rendering shows everything is fine. But once I export the video, all these motion effects are clearly not present: the screen capture parts of my video are not scaled at all and instead show the entire desktop.
    What is the issue here?
Have I misunderstood what the motion effect is meant to be used for? I am really looking for something to trim/zoom into parts of a video and it sounded like the motion effect was the solution, but I am not entirely sure.
Thank you very much to anyone who assists!

    Skyler Freeman
Please excuse the question, but am asking just in case.
When you say that you are using Motion Effects (Scale and Position) for your .mp4 video on the Timeline, does that mean that you are keyframing the Scale and Position properties in the Properties Palette/Motion Panel/Scale and Position properties (using the Toggle Animation button there to initiate the keyframing)?
Please include in your response to SG.
    Thanks.

  • How about using a 60fps video for a smooth slow motion effect in a 30fps project ?

    Hey all,
I happen to have a video camera that is able to shoot either in 720p/60fps or 720p/30fps.
As you guessed it, 60 fps mode is very useful for action sports when you want to do some slow motion effect running very smoothly.
I have few questions I would love to be answered, and I was not able to find answers till now.
    Here they are :
1/ If I want my final video file to be, let's say, 25 fps, is it mandatory that my project is 25 fps too ?
What will happen if I do a 30fps project and that I export to a 25fps file ? Does Premiere simply remove some extra frames ? Or will it lead to a longer video ? What consequence on the final result if frames are removed ? I mean, will I be able to see any difference or will the difference remain theorical ?
2/ Let's say I have both 30fps and 60fps videos. I set my project to 30fps. If I import my 60fps video to the timeline, it will be adjusted to 30fps and some frames disappear to keep the duration the same. Okay, this is clear to me.
But now, what if I import my 60fps to the timeline, but set the speed to 50% ? Will Premiere apply the 50% to the original file (therefore I should have all the frames displayed on the timeline : 60/2=30 fps), or to the 30fps-adjusted file of the timeline, leading to some jerky footage?
3/ If I want to use my 60fps for slow motion purpose in my 30fps project, would it be a good idea to right-click on this file in the project windows, going to the "modify" menu to set the image frequency to 30fps ?
Because while doing so, if I drag the file to the timeline, I noticed it would last 2 times longer (resulting in a slow motion video) Does that mean that ALL the frames of the original video are displayed ? Can someone tell me what exactly does Premiere ?
I would be very grateful if someone could tell me what are the correct settings to chose in order to realise the best slow motion videos as possible.
    Thanks in advance !

With due respect... this does not answer my question and does not help me that much , but anyway, thank you for the very constructive answer ^^.
I'm not sure I would even have considered doing this by myself...
I hope I do not get this kind of answer because you feel like my question was silly or unpolite... To my mind this was a pretty serious question.
Shooternz, next time you need to go 150 km far away from where you are, go by feet rather than with a car, I'm sure you will have plenty of satisfaction too. Just cross the fingers for you not to be in a hurry while it's raining outside.
Well, I may be naive but i thought some experts already had the answer to this (I guess I'm not the only one who intend to do some slo mo), and would have been kind enough to share this knowledge with me. That's what sometimes happens in communities.
Please note I do not intend others to do the job for me, I'm just asking if someone already knows the answer.
I asked this question because I couldn't find any documentation about this, and I guess asking on internet was the next step, as testing would be like the last resort, being very time consuming.
It was easy to check the effect of dragging a file to the timeline to see if it played normally or not, but it's definitely not to count and compare each frame of some sample file to find if some are lacking, or have been doubled or what....
I assume I would be very happy with just a simple theorical answer either...
So once again, if someone already has been into such questions, I would really pleased him or her to share or report what they experienced. Thanks in advance.

  • FCPX Mixed Frame Rates? 30fps AND 24fps in same project?

Just got done doing a multicam shoot for a large event where I had multiple people helping me out. We all shot at 1080p on a variety of Canon DSLR cameras and a Go Pro and a MiniDV Consumer Cam. I thought everyone got the memo to shoot at 30fps, and most everyone did, however one of my Canon cameras shot at 24fps. I know I've heard in the past mixing frame rates can cause issue in other programs, and I know FCPX can handle multiple frame rates, but what sort of trouble am I in for if I want to use footage from cameras using 30fps and a camera using 24fps in the same final product? Is the 24fps stuff going to choppy or weird if I use it in a 30fps sequence/project? My final deliverable at this point can be 30fps or 24fps, it is not stated and I want to make sure evrything looks good so what should I set my project settings for? Any ideas?

Ah - no - conforming simply resets the frame rate information. You should re-conform it back to 29.97...
Here's what I think you'll need to do. If the majority of your material is at 23.98, make your main sequence that. Cut everything at that 23.98 - you'll have to render any 29.97 material then, but when you've locked picture, look at the sections with 29.97 stuff and if it looks okay, just skip to making the DVD. If it doesn't, you'll have to insert a pulldown by exporting your sequence then bringing the quicktime back in, adding a pulldown with Shake ($500) or Nattress frame rate converter ($99) - OR try this - edit it to tape and a pulldown will be inserted, then recapture.
Once you have a 29.97 version of your clip, cut it into a 29.97 sequence and re-cut in the 29.97 material (now you won't need to render). Then export for your DVD.
Now - after all this, are you sure that your 30fps material is NOT 29.97 with a pulldown? Did you check this yet?

  • Project Effective from Date

    Hi,
As soon as i create a new project using Project quick entry screen, the key member for project manager "effective from date" is getting set automatically which is not providing the actual project start date...when i try to alter it..itz not allowing the same employee name...
how can i overcome this issue...plz help me
    thanks a lot in advance

    Hi Preety,
When u create new project then in setup quick entry page u define project manager
if ur project start date and project manger date is different then your project is not approve
if u want to overcome this solution then u assign other project manger give the start date as your project date above in your eg. you must define project manger as 1 - jun -2010 and give the end date of this project manger as 15 - jun -2010 and assign your project manger to 16 - jun -2010 so your new project manger which is assign in 16 - jun - 2010 it's effected after 15 - june - 2010
in project module project start date and project manager date must be require same without this u can not approve your project.

  • Transfering effects from one project to another?

In audition 1.5 is there anyway to transfer the effects used onto a new project? Im more based around pro-tools and i know this is possible there, however new to audition,
    Cheers

I'm not sure if I expressed my need clearly however a clone of my information for the sake of protecting my files is exactly what my goal was and is. I want to "clone" the information from my iMac to my Macbook so that my files are backed up and useable on both computers. This will protect my data and enable me to use my data on both computers. I had nothing to lose by using the migration assistant from the iMac to the Macbook because the Macbook is virgin so nothing data wise of a personal nature was on it ... and I was able to transfer the data. The problem is the files and all their attachment files that got transferred are not in the proper place for Logic to recognize and use and I don't know how to get the 100s of iTunes songs i transferred into iTunes. The migration assistant migrated the files however the intended programs on the computer that received the files don't SEE them. What good is a transferred protected file if you can't get it to run? That's my problem and I've no doubt it's something I simply don;t understand about how Apple computers work.
So i totally agree with you, I need to back up my files. And being able to do that successfully from one Mac to another in a form where the files can be used by the intended program on the computer that receives the file is exactly my goal.

  • How to remove flicker effect from screens / projections?

    Hey,
I wondered if there's an option within Premiere Pro CC ( or AE) to remove flicker effects from screens and projections. I attached a jpg as an example of such a projection. Here is an anti flicker option in Premiere Pro, but it doesn't seem to have an effect on my problem.
    Cheers

You need to shoot scenes like that using a camera that allows Synchro-Scan, which can adjust the cameras scanning rate to that of the display in the shot.  Any mismatch between camera and siaplay is what causes the flicker, and Synchro-Scan is the only way to correct it without entirely removing the screen from teh shot and replacing it with another, usually via After Effects.

  • Apply filters before motion effects?

I've some night time, timelapses in a programme. They're very beautiful, of the northern lights. Unfortunately they are covered in dead pixels. I have Boris Pixel Fixer installed though, so should be no problem! Unfortunately, there is a move applied to each timelapse, and the fixes for the dead pixel seem to apply AFTER the move, so the dead pixels drift away from the points. It's very annoying! Is there a way to reorder the stack of motion effects so the move is applied after filters? It seems like motion, opacity, etc can't be reordered, only user added effects. I could go in to the AE project the timelapse were made in, fix the dead pixels there, render out the timelpases, apply the Lumetri look file and the editors move again... But taht seems like a faff for what should be fixable. Any ideas?

It seems like motion, opacity, etc can't be reordered, only user added effects.
I had to wait until I was sitting in front of my machine to properly guide my comment. Yes, the nested tip from RoninEdits is good and Peru Bob is shooting straight,
Re-order your motion, opacity with your user added effects yes. Add the 'Transform' effect, but it is not found in the Transform effect drop-down list. The 'Transform' effect is found in the 'Distort' effect drop-down list.
In the effects panel, open Video Effects, then open Distort, then choose Transform.
With Transform you will see the 'fixed position' Motion effects, as well as a few others. Then you will be able to arrange in the stacking order as you wish.

  • From 3D apps to AE for 2D & 2.5D Motion Graphics...???

A word of warning for those of you coming from mainstream 3D apps to AE under the misconception that it's the default and best choice for 2D motion graphics.
AE is a compositing app onto which some functionality for doing rudimentary animation has been added, but it's all tacked on, and it feels that way. And there's great big holes in its capabilities as an animation creativity space.
Most of its user base and adherents aren't even aware of its limitations in comparison to the features and functionality of 3D apps. Consequently they will automatically rebuke any negatively phrased questions about AE's abilities and immediately suggest trite work-arounds that fail to consider the deeper potential relationships inherent to entities created within 3D apps.
After Effects is not good at 2D animation in the ways that you're familiar with it being possible, at all. It's arguably not even really suited to 2D Motion Graphics, that folks coming to it without ever having used 3D apps are playing within a constrained space and should be deeply congratulated for the way they've worked around its inherent limitations to create what they have.
You're better off hightailing it back to your favourite 3D app and figuring out how to make a flat lighting rig, and materials and models in an ideal orthographic camera setup... far better than fighting with the inabilities of After Effects.
After Effects was fundamentally designed as a compositing tool for video, and has become the default choice for motion graphics "artists" who know no better. They're using more work-arounds, fudges and trickery than you could ever imagine necessary to get their desired results... when they stray outside of what AE can do "natively".
Their trickery is that most of them stay within the lines, so to speak, and make some incredible works in which we of the 3D realm don't necessarily instantly see how they've artificially constrained their creativity to the limitations of the tool they're using. But, given enough time, you'll start to bump into those limitations and constraints within AE, and begin to feel that irrepressible urge to bang your head against a wall because you'll initially make the same mistake I did... which is to think that you're failing to find how to do something, not that it can't be done in AE with the kinds of connectivity you're accustomed to.
But, more often than not, those things that you've come to rely on in 3D apps for consistency, accuracy and legitimate relationship management between entities in your projects, they simply don't exist in AE's way of thinking.
If you have a choice, use 3D apps to do 2D. And thank me later.
AE could be a great product for Motion Graphics, but it first needs to consider the humble Vertex to be a first class citizen. Consider that it's not, and you're at the first part of avoiding AE and running back to those 3D hills.

As a heavy C4D user, I would disagree with this gentleman's (or gentlewoman's) characterization of After Effects. After Effects has a very different way of working, yes. There are things that are better done in a 3d program (like C4D), yes.
However, After Effects is a very powerful tool for motion graphics and, once you learn how to work with it, you can do things that you can't do in 3d software. (Or would take a really long time to do.) The key here is that you have to learn to work with it. Just like when you start out learning 3d, it takes a while - the same is true here. It's a very different way of working. But so is Photoshop compared to Cinema 4d. They are very different tools with very different ways of working.
For example, glitch effects. You can't do those in 3d software.
    Or try this exercise:
    Type some text in AE
Create a solid with the Fractal Noise effect applied
Precompose this solid (making sure you choose to move all attributes into the precomp)
Turn visibility for this layer off
On your text layer, apply the Compound Blur effect and the Displacement Map effect
For both effects choose your Fractal Noise precomp as the map to use
Animate up the displacement values and the blur values
Learn how to use each program and then use each program for what it was designed to do and you'll have a great time.
Don't take the time to learn it, and be frustrated.

  • Roundtrip Motion 5 from Final Cut X?

It would seem that I can't figure out how to send a clip from Final Cut X to Motion 5? I can open effects from FCX in Motion 5 to edit them, but cannot send video clips themselves. Any ideas?

This is the "new and improved" workflow to use a motion file in FCPX:
    Open Motion
    Open your file
Go to "File -> Publish Template"
Enter a Name and chose a category
Select "Publish as Final Cut Generator"
    Hit "Publish"
Lose every reference to the original source media, as everything will be copied into your movies directory
Restart Final Cut Pro X (it does not pick up new generators without restarting)
Go to your Generators Browser and drag your file to your project
I too don't understand why Apple removed the "1. Locate file in Finder, 2. Drag to your project" and "1. Click send to motion, 2. Done" workflow.
Man I'm still raging about this s**t.

  • How to properly timewarp 59.94 footage for slow motion effect for 29.97 output

I have footage filmed in 59.94 that I want to use for slow motion effects and output to 29.97. Using timewarp I seem to get duplicate frames at times. What would the best workflow to accomplish the cleanest result? I've tried interpreting the footage at 29.97 and keeping it at its native 59.94. At this point I feel like I'm just confusing myself further by just trying random things. Thanks!

Always interpret footage as what it really is. If it is really 59.94 progressive then that's what it should be interpreted as. It will play at the right speed in any comp of any frame rate. IOW, if the footage is 10 seconds and you put it in a 99fps comp and play it back at full frame rate the clip will still be 10 seconds long. If you put it in a comp that's 15 frames per second, the clip will still be 10 seconds long.
    Make sure you understand that.
There is a chance, and a good chance, that your footage is actually full frame 59.94 fps video. That's why I suggested putting it in a comp that's also 59.94 fps and checking for duplicate frames.
There is also a chance that your footage is actually 29.97 fps interlaced. If you separate fields and look at the footage in a 59.94 fps comp you won't see any duplicate frames.
To change the speed of the clip you just need to apply Time Remapping, Time Warp, or any of the other Time Time tools in AE. It doesn't make any difference what the frame rate of the composition is, you'll be changing the length of the clip.
To keep from creating duplicate frames you either need software that interprets the new, extra frames or you need to use an exact whole number multiple of the frame rate for rendering.
Where did you get the footage? What Camera? What are you trying to do with it? What is the final destination (delivery) for your project.
