Cascading lists on uix pages

Hi,
there's a how-to topic describing the realization of cascading lists on jsp pages:
http://www.oracle.com/technology/products/jdev/tips/mills/cascading_lists.html
Now I tried the same on a uix page. I cannot use a navigation list to drag n' drop the VO there, so I tried using MessageChoice elements.
The result looks fine on first glance, the second combo being initialized (filtered) with values matching the initial value of the first combo. But changing the value in the first combo causes ArrayIndexOutOfBoundsExceptions (value 0) instead of correctly updating the second combo.
Can anyone imagine what I'm doing wrong or provide information how to realize cascading lists on uix pages?
Thanks in advance
Christian

Hi I was building cascading lists in a search form with ADFBC and JSF but i can't understand how implement the mechanism to refresh the second list when the first has changed....
I read the tutorial but I can't find the solution....
Please anybody can help me....?

  • Cascading list in UIX

    Hi
    One month ago we ask about how to implement cascading list in UIX, but we don't obtain any answer. Please, anyone know how to implement cascading list in UIX?
    Thanks for any help.
    Geraldine

    Hi, This is how my team implemented this requirement.
    I have state and city list on my screen.
    I use data provider to populate all my list.
    Let's say your data provider methods:
    * get the States from the Table
    * @param context
    * @param namespace
    * @param name
    * @return
    static public Object getState(RenderingContext context,
    String namespace,
    String name)
    DropDownListDao dropDownListDao = new DropDownListDao();
    // List list = null;
    // TODO : Need to get the Data form the DB Table
    String select = " SELECT STATE_CD, STATE_CD FROM VW_STATES ";
    List list = dropDownListDao.getStaticDataList(select);
    return list;
    }// getState()
    static public Object getCityList(
    RenderingContext context, String namespace, String name)
    HttpSession sess = BajaRenderingContext.getHttpSession(context);
    List list = (List) sess.getAttribute("cityList");
    return list;
    I also use strut action that get the event posted by
    changing state.
    that will put the city List in the session for a selected
    state.
    public void onResetCityDataEvent (DataActionContext ctx) {
    HomeAppModule ham = (HomeAppModule)ActionUtil.getAppModule(ctx,ViewCtrlConstants.HOME_APP_MODULE);
    String stateName = ViewControllerUtil.getRequestParameter(ctx,"stateData","-1");
    if (stateName.equals("")) {
    stateName = "-1"; // etc ....
    List cityList = DynamicListData.getCityListWithAll(stateName);
    ViewControllerUtil.setSessionAttribute(ctx, "cityList", cityList);
    here is my uix page
    <messageChoice prompt="State" name="stateData" selectedValue="${ui:defaulting(param.stateData, 'ALL')}">
    <contents childData="${uix.data.stateDataList}">
    <option text="${uix.current.code}" value="${uix.current.value}"/>
    </contents>
    <primaryClientAction>
    <firePartialAction formSubmitted="true" unvalidated="true" event="ResetCityDataEvent" targets="cityData"/>
    </primaryClientAction>
    </messageChoice>
    <messageChoice prompt="City" id="cityData" name="cityData" selectedValue="${ui:defaulting(param.cityData, 'ALL')}">
    <contents childData="${uix.data.cityDataList}">
    <option text="${uix.current.code}" value="${uix.current.value}"/>
    </contents>
    </messageChoice>
    I know it is confusing at first, but this is what I did to make it work.
    I hope it will help.
    Thanks

  • Displaying cascading list in the page

    Hi
    I have a cascading parent child list of Country , City , World.
    I want to display the world list on the page using some webpart. I want that there should be two drop downs and when the Country and city are selected from that drop down then the list item should be displayed .
    For eg.
    If I select India and Delhi then the list item should be displayed for the same.
    Vij

    Hi Vij, Romeo's solution will work inside the form, but I think you might be talking about adding the dropdowns to the page itself where the list is, then I suggest the html web part. See the following link for information on how to set it up:

  • Problem with "Row-specific or Cascading Lists in Table Layout"

    Hello, friends!
    I have read article "Row-specific or Cascading Lists in Table Layout" written by Steven Davelaar. I have maked several table layouts with this technique and it worked fine.
    But now I have one problem, and this problem is very strange. One of VOs for which I use this table layouts throw exception after commit changes on first LOV attribute (Deptno). First time it was error
    (oracle.jbo.ReadOnlyAttrException) JBO-27008: for atribute mgrList
    at oracle.jbo.AttrValException.<init>(AttrValException.java:112)
         at oracle.jbo.ReadOnlyAttrException.<init>(ReadOnlyAttrException.java:40)
         at oracle.jbo.server.ViewRowImpl.setAttribute(ViewRowImpl.java:815)
         at oracle.jbo.jbotester.JboTesterUtil.setData(JboTesterUtil.java:173)
    Then I setted updateable property of MgrList attribute to always and now i have this error:
    oracle.jbo.domain.DataCreationException: JBO-25009: Cannot create an object of type:java.util.List with value:[{}]
         at oracle.jbo.domain.TypeFactory.get(TypeFactory.java:721)
         at oracle.jbo.domain.TypeFactory.getInstance(TypeFactory.java:85)
    I don't know why, but all worked fine yestarday. And same code works fine for another VOs. And article Test application works fine too.
    Help me, please.
    Thank you.

  • Two LOVs in same UIX page based on the same table

    Hi group,
    Recently I ran into a problem with a UIX page that has two LOVs based on the same database table. In Emp and Job terminology, here's what I tried to do.
    Suppose we have use the Employees and Jobs tables from the HR scheme with one small modification. Add a column called PREFERRED_JOB_ID of type VARCHAR2(10) which is exactly the same as JOB_ID. Hypothetically speaking, this column will be used to allow Employees to select their preferred job in case they want to change their jobs.
    Next, create business components in JDeveloper based on the Employees and Jobs table. In order to be able to generate the LOVs for Job and PreferredJob create two ViewObjects, one called JobsLookupView and one called PreferredJobsLookupView. These both need to be based upon the same Jobs EntityObject. Also include the Jobs EntityObject twice in the EmployeesView ViewObject and give one the alias PreferredJobs. Include the JobTitle attributes of Jobs and PreferredJobs in EmployeesView so they can contain the JobTitles selected in our future LOVs.
    Next create a ViewController project if it's not already there and enable JHeadstart on it. Create an Application Structure File and create the lookups for the two LOVs. When I run the application I see this happening:
    When I click the flashlight icon next to the PreferredJob LOV and select a job, the PreferredJob field is selected in the UIX page but no job title appears. When I next first select the Job LOV and select a new job and then select the PreferredJob LOV again and select a different job, the job that was selected in the Job LOV is now also entered in the PreferredJob field. When I make sure the PreferredJob field isn't required (remove the required="yes" property on the messageLovInput entry for PreferredJobTitle and remove the PreferredJobTitle field from the addRequiredRowItems list in the UIX page) I can save the changes I made in the Employees.uix page. The same JobId is stored in the database for Job and PreferredJob.
    This behaviour is probably due to cacheing issues because both LOVs and the EmployeesView ViewObject use one EntityObject for four values in three ViewObjects.
    So I then modified my model a bit. I created a new EntityObject called PreferredJobs based on the JOBS table. I modified the EmployeesView ViewObject to use this EntityObject for the PreferredJobTitle attribute and modified the PreferredJobsLookupView to use this EntityObject.
    I needed to modify a few things as well in the Application Structure File (which were prompts and whether or not the attribute should be visible in a table) and after regenerating I made sure the PreferredJob attribute isn't required in the UIX page. When I then run the application again, I never see the JobTitle I select in any LOV allthough the PreferredJob field is selected when I select a Job in the PreferredJob LOV. The correct JobId now is stored in the database though.
    Has anyone ever encoutered this behaviour? Would anyone know how to get two LOVs based on the same table in one UIX page?
    Thanks in advance,
    Wouter van Reeven

    OK I figured it out. When I added the second Lookup ViewObject (PreferredJobs) no additional Association was created. Therefore, ADF BC wasn't able to figure out which field to update. When I added the Association between the PreferredJobs Lookup ViewObject and the Employees ViewObject everything started working ok.
    I then recreated my inital situation: one EntityObject for Jobs and one for Employees, now with two Associations between them. After modifying the Employees ViewObject and making sure the Jobs EntityObject was referred twice and via the corresponding Association, everything started working ok.

  • Cascading List Item does not work proprely

    In HTMLDB 2.0
    I have two list item
    The first one: :P7_TYPE (select list with branch to page)
    The second: :P7_PERIOD (select list)
    The Query of the :P7_PERIOD use a where clause on :P7_TYPE
    There is also two button at the bottom of region that will work once the two list (P7_TYPE and P7_PERIOD) are filled.
    Note: Both Query are based on shared compenent LOV.
    So I would like the page refreshed once the P7_TYPE values is choosed so the P7_PERIOD show only the valid values.
    The problem is when I select from the P7_TYPE List, the page is refresh but instead of displaying the page 7 again, it display another page of the application.
    I realise it always display the page number according to the value of the P7_TYPE.
    For exemple, if in P7_TYPE is choose (type desc 4, value 4) then the page 4 is displayed.
    I want the page 7 to be resfresh, not another page. So I can have a cascading list that work with P7_PERIOD.
    ??

    Ok, I change the list for list with submit instead and it work.

    This usage of nested view object scopes has been explained in reply of a previous post, How to databind the children of a UIX XML choice, and before ours attempts to modify the tree it worked fine. Removing the nested view object scope the page makes the page render correctly, but we need it to retrieve the description of its state.
    We get the same behaviour (and a much similar stack trace, with the same oracle.cabo.ui.data.DataObjectList oracle.cabo.ui.collection.DataObjectListNodeList.getDataObjectList (oracle.cabo.ui.RenderingContext) throwing a NullPointerException) if we use NodeUtils.createPreorderDescendentAttributeEnumeration method instead of PathUtils.

    It's a bug in the DataObjectListNodeList class that's up at the top of
    the stack. It's been fixed for 9.0.3. The bit of XML that's triggering
    it isn't the <viewObjectScope>s, but the "data:childData".
    I believe you can workaround this bug by not passing a null RenderingContext to
    findPathWithNodeID(). Now, you don't have a real RenderingContext, and we
    don't especially need one - "null" is legit here, but I think if
    you just pass "new oracle.cabo.ui.RootRenderingContext()" then you'll
    get around this bug.

  • HOW TO PASS A PARAMETER TO UIX PAGE FROM APPS' FUNCTIONS FORM?

    Hello,
    We created a form function (in Sys Admin resp) for a UIX page. The Type field
    is 'SSWA plsql function that opens a new window (Kiosk Mode)'. The HTML Call
    field is 'POBarCode.uix'.
    We have to pass the username (who logs in) to the UIX page. If we pass it
    literaly, (e.g. POBarCode.uix?MyParam1=BBASTIN), it works. We tried following
    two options to pass it as a variable in HTML Call field:
    POBarCode.uix?MyParam1=fnd_profile.value('USER_ID')
    POBarCode.uix?MyParam1=$PROFILE$.USERNAME
    Both variable show up as is in the UIX page. How can we pass the username as a
    variable on tHe HTML Call?
    Thanks, Ali.

    Hi guojun yu,
    As per my understanding, you use parameters related to country and office UI langs as search condition in the report, you want to provide part of countries/office UI langs values as values of parameter, then all records will be displayed in the report.
    In Reporting Services, parameters are used to filter data, after we selected values of parameter and preview the report, only data meets search condition will be displayed in the report. To display all records in the report, we need to use all values of
    countries/office UI langs as values of parameter. For detail information, please refer to the following steps:
      1. Create separate dataset for each parameter with the query like below:
    Select distinct CountryRegion from TableName
      2. In design mode, right-click Parameters and click Add Parameter.
      3. In Parameter Properties dialog box, in name and prompt text box, type CountryRegion. Select Allow multiple values.
      4. Click Available Values in left pane, select Get values from a query, select dataset from drop down list, select CountryRegion from Value field and Label field drop down list.
      5. Create parameter @OfficeUiLang, @OsLocale, @IsMobile like step1 to 4 above.
      6. Modify the stored procedure used to retrieve data for the report like below:
    SELECT *
    FROM AggregateDataByDate AllSessions
    WHERE UserID != 'NULL'
    AND CountryRegion in @CountryRegion
    AND OfficeUiLang in @OfficeUiLang
    AND OsLocale in @OsLocale
    AND IsMobile in @IsMobile
    AND [UsageDate] >= @DataCutOffDate
    For detail information about Adding a multi-value parameter to a Report, please refer to the following document:

  • UIX page not displaying data from VO's

    I have an application where my users log in by passing a username/password to a client method in my application module. The Webusers View Object has a view link to the Customers view object, which has a view link to the Orders view object, which has a view link to the OrdLines view object, like this:
    WebusersView
    --CustomersView via WebCustViewLink
    ----OrdersView via CustOrdViewLink
    ------OrdLinesView via OrdOrdlinesViewLink
    I've run this Application Module through the tester and I can see data via all the View Links.
    I have the following code in my login() script:
    w = getWebusersView();
    w.setWhereClause("login = '" + username + "'");
    w.executeQuery();
    I've stepped through the login() code and it works correctly. If I understand BC4J correctly, then all of the View Links should fire and coordinate the data from Customers, Orders, and OrdLines when this query executes successfully.
    I created a UIX page and did a drag/drop of Orders to the page as a read-only table. I found the Orders table by expanding the Webusers entry in the Data Control palette, then the Customers entry below that, to grab the Orders entry there. I think this means that it will follow the WebCustViewLink to get the Customer that goes with the Webuser, then the CustOrdViewLink to get the Orders for that Customer. Is this correct?
    When I try to run this and display the table, I get no records. I know for a fact that records exist under the Webuser username I've chosen.
    What is wrong? Why doesn't my UIX page display the appropriate Orders based on the Webusers->Customers->Orders view links?

    If there, try removing the $. at the beginning of the binding that gets puts there if you select the item from the pop up list.
    I have a text field that is read only and bound without the $. that was working fine for displaying data. I have a drop down that had the $. and was not saving. I removed the $. and now it is getting saved to the XML. However, it does not display on the next render of the form.

  • Displaying HttpRequest Parameter in UIX page

    Hi team,
    On one page I select a value from a dropdown list - this gets saved as a request parameter on the sessionData (standard behaviour).
    16:06:57 DEBUG (JhsActionServlet) -Parameter Shipment: 121What I want to do is refer to that value in a subsequent UIX page. I thought that I would be able to use
    <dataObject select="Shipment" source="jheadstart:sessionData"/>but it returns null. Also, using a custom handler, I can access the value by using
    String shipmentId = sessionData.getRequestParameter("Shipment");
    or
    String shipmentId = sessionData.getAttribute("Shipment",true).toString();
    but not
    String shipmentId = sessionData.getAttribute("Shipment").toString();The last returns a NullPointer exception - which is no doubt why no value is displayed on my UIX page. How come using the overloaded version of the getAttribute method("Shipment",true) works but not just ("Shipment"). I thought the standard method is supposed to check in all locations (HttpSession, HttpRequest and ServletContext) anyway ??
    Also, what databinding do I need in my UIX page to access this "Shipment" request parameter.
    Many thanks,
    Brent

    Brent,
    Apart from what the standard method is supposed to do, is the difference that getAttribute(String, boolean) with boolean="true" not only checks the session but also the request itself (that's where the boolean is for). The getRequestParameter() only checks the request. That is why getAttribute("Shipment", true) and getRequestParameter() both get the value, while getAttribute("Shipment") doesn't.
    The request parameter is not automatically stored as a data object. You could do this using a custom action that retrieves the parameter using e.g. getRequestParameter(), create a UIX data object based on that and put that on the session. Than you can refer to it in a next page using getAttribute().
    Having said this, I wonder if there is not a much simpler method to retrieve request parameters from the session. If I were you, I would post these same question on the JDeveloper forum to see if that is possible.

  • LOV /ADF UIX pages does not work on the older version od UIX page

    Hi
    I have recently migrated UIX project from the Jdeveoper 9i to Jdev10g version 1.0.1.2, everything work without any issue, however when I try to create a LOV or any component that are ADF-UIX based, but it does not work I don't even get any error, it just does not work based on the ADF-UIX (Expression base component),
    Any help to resolve this issue will be greatly appericated
    Thanks

    I too have problems with LOVs in UIX pages. I have
    some that you have to run twice to get back a value.To solve this problem,
    1) open your UIX page where you create a new row
    2) in the Structure window, click third tab "UI Model"
    3) double-click the control action binding corresponding to Create
    4) select CreateInsert from the list
    The problem is related to the fix we introduced for the "Blank Row Issue" (see http://www.oracle.com/technology/products/jdev/tips/muench/blankrow/index.html).
    If you have access to MetaLink, please refer to Note 299860.1 and Bug 4201020.

  • Render a uix page

    hi,
    I am just beginning to use uix pages migrating from jsp's and am woundering how to render a uix page. I 've read the developers guide but am not certain how it works as a whole. Are there any examples out there that i can look at?? apart from the dev guide?
    I am not quite able to understand from the dev guide how the context is used to render the information from the java class back to a uix page and how to forward to a uix page through servlet? do I have to use uix servlet (or the controller) instead or else can i use my HttpServlet and use the doGet and doPost the same way we use to render a jsp page? can I include a uix page in a jsp page?? Anybody could please gimme an insight about this!!
    regards,
    vasanth

    hi Arjuna,
    sorry I used the bean from the session as opposed to the question asked by me about using the request servlet.
    I have this problem in my jsp page. I have the bean in the session and am trying to get the info from that bean into my jsp page with uix tags.
    I have the code below.
    Unfortunately it is showing errors. Its a jsp page with uix form and in the Trailing list of the shuttle I have used the object from the session. Again at the bottom I 've used the <uix:xml> tag to do the same for another purpose ie., to iterate through another set of objects.
    the xmlns (namespace) is posing problem. and the tag data: infront of the tag childData in the <contents> tag is also being not recognized as a valid tag when i run the jsp.
    Any help in this regard would be greatly appreciated.
    thanks so much,
    vasanth

    Patrick,
    Thanks my session verify function was causing the problem and I have removed it temporarily from my authentication scheme.
    I am using the "check_timeout" function that was developed a number of years ago as part of a "How To" section in the old HTMLdb days. I knew there was an issue with this routine as the newer versions of the browsers handle cookies differently and I was going to redevelop it at some point. Do you know which part of the function causes the issue?
    Many Thanks,

  • Searching using a combination of MessageChoice & TextInput in ADF UIX  Page

    Hello,
    I'm trying to create a page in ADF UIX which implements search operation using a combination of "Message Choice" & "Text Input". I refered to the OTN How to's Document for "Building a list of Values (LOV) with ADF UIX". It's been mentioned in the document to create an LovInput component & when you do that an UIX page LovWindow0.uix is created by default along with two handler's "LovFilter" and "LovSelect".
    when I try to implement this concept in the simple UIX page with out creating a LOV Input field.... i.e; I tried to implement this concept by just using the List of values component.... I'm not able to associate a handler to the go button present in the default list of files component.
    Consider the scenario where I'm using the Departments View.. In the list I'm displaying the filter Choice & in the Text Input specifying the where condition...
    Can anyone please help me out on this...I'm new to this concept...
    Thanks & Regards,
    Arun

    Hi Sam,
    i think this link should have part of ur solution.
    http://www.oracle.com/technology/products/jdev/tips/shmeltzer/setwhereclause/uix.html
    There you need to make slight modifications to the codes so as to suite ur scenario of search(having a message choice to choose filter and a textinput for the search value)
    The new method that you add by reading the page can be modified.
    Origional method mentioned is
    public void setCondition (String p_cond)
    ViewObject empvo = findViewObject("EmployeesView1");
         //Creating a Where clause for the query
    String whereclause = "LAST_NAME like '%"+ p_cond +"%'";
    empvo.setWhereClause(whereclause);
    empvo.executeQuery();
    replace this with the new method
    public void setCondition (String p_filter,String p_value)
    ViewObject empvo = findViewObject("EmployeesView1");
         //Creating a Where clause for the query
    String whereclause = p_filter+" = "+p_value ;
    empvo.setWhereClause(whereclause);
    empvo.executeQuery();
    But if u have a filter which is suppposed to be charechter field den the code should be
    public final void setMoreConditions(String p_field, String p_value)
    ViewObject empvo = findViewObject("EmployeesView1");
    if (p_field.equalsIgnoreCase("last_name")||p_field.equalsIgnoreCase("first_name"))
    String whereclause = p_field+" LIKE '%"+p_value+"%'";
    empvo.setWhereClause(whereclause);
    else
    if (p_field.equalsIgnoreCase("manager_id")||p_field.equalsIgnoreCase("department_id") )
    String whereclause = p_field+" = '"+p_value+"'";
    empvo.setWhereClause(whereclause);
    else
    String whereclause = "";
    empvo.setWhereClause(whereclause);
    empvo.executeQuery();
    In the above code include all the charechter field names in the first if condition.
    I think that should solve ur purpose.
    Try it and let me know if ur having any problems.
    Regards,
    Vineet
