Case statement in bi publisher 11g Release 1 (11.1.1)
Hi All ,I am new to OBIEE and facing the below issue:
I am adding an element using expression in the existing data set like below:
CASE WHEN 1==1 THEN 0
ELSE 1 END
But getting a below error
Formula: Encountered error parsing "CASE WHEN 1==1 THEN 0 ELSE 1 END". Encountered "WHEN" at column 6. Was expecting one of: "[" ">" "<" "?" "==" "<=" ">=" "!=" "||" "&&" "+" "-" "*" "/" "%" "^" . null
Plese help:what is the root cause of it?
Also in the list of available functions i am not seeing any 'CASE' function,is it not supported ?
And what about 'IF then Else' statement ,is it supported?
The two major areas of work in 11gR1 (11.1.1.1.0) are enhancements to EclipseLink included with the its 1.1.1 release as well as enhancements around TopLink Grid (JPA-Coherence integration).
The EclipseLink 1.1.1 fixes are documented here: http://wiki.eclipse.org/EclipseLink/Release/1.1.1

Just wanted to let you know - did see any posts yet
http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/middleware/bi-enterprise-edition/downloads/bus-intelligence-11g-165436.html
This allows you to either install the integrated BI EE or only standalone BI Publisher.
If you haven't need to download RCU first (at the bottom of page).
Unfortunately, RCU requires a very recent 11g database to install the schema.
In case somebody posted before - never mind.
KlausFirst, make sure you've got enough machine resources as BIEE11g is resources hungry.
Next, after installation you should have icons to start BIEE11g (try windows version as it is easier to start up).
Run the startBIEE11g script and it will take some minutes, be patient. Once you get all processes running
then you can try to login.
Take a look at my post:

Good luck

Hi I am new to BI Publisher
Installed BI Publisher that comes with OBIEE11g
After I punch in my URL it is not popping !! throws error
From RFC 2068 Hypertext Transfer Protocol -- HTTP/1.1:
10.4.5 404 Not Found
My service is down in Enterprise manager not sure how to turn on and looking for log related to error
I am using same port no that Analytics url is using!!
Please throw some inputsHello,
Did you change any configuration for BI Publisher that made the service go down or integrate or something ..? Check bipublisher.log , sawlog too
If not then you can always restart this Application Deployments > bipublisher(11.1.1) (bi_cluster) > bipublisher(11.1.1) (bi_server1) > Control > Startup
Also its a good idea to create a super first before changing any configuration in BI Publisher.

11g outer join with case statement - strange results.
Hello All,
I am experiencing a strange issues in 11g while using case statement.
I am not able to reproduce this using sample data. Not sure what is wrong.
I am not narrowing it to say the usage of case statemnt is giving wrong results, but that is my observation when I am doing trail and error testing.
Here are the details.

Hi, I have two issues, here is my initial code:
select
cc.name_id_no
,cc.discover_date
,cc.cla_case_no
,max(rl.year_of_incident)Non_Loss_Past_5
,rl.timestamp
from cla_case cc, rbn_loss rl
where cc.name_id_no = rl.customer_no
and rl.year_of_incident < trunc(cc.discover_date)
and rl.type_of_loss < 1000
and rl.timestamp < trunc(cc.discover_date)
and (cc.question_class = 20
or cc.question_class = 25)
and (trunc(cc.discover_date)- (rl.year_of_incident)) < 1095
--and (trunc(cc.discover_date) <> (rl.year_of_incident))
group by cc.cla_case_no,name_id_no, cc.discover_date,rl.timestamp
Now a cla_case_no can map to several year_of_incident. I only want the cla_case_no that maps to the max year_of_incident ie There should only be a single cla_case_no corresponding to the max year_of_incident.
To get around this I did the following which is not very efficient and I'm hoping it can be improved:
select distinct z.cla_case_no from (
select
cc.name_id_no
,cc.discover_date
,cc.cla_case_no
,max(rl.year_of_incident)Non_MW_Loss_Past_5
,rl.timestamp
from cla_case cc, rbn_loss rl
where cc.name_id_no = rl.customer_no
and rl.year_of_incident < trunc(cc.discover_date)
and rl.type_of_loss < 1000
and rl.timestamp < trunc(cc.discover_date)
and (cc.question_class = 20
or cc.question_class = 25)
and (trunc(cc.discover_date)- (rl.year_of_incident)) < 1095
--and (trunc(cc.discover_date) <> (rl.year_of_incident))
group by cc.cla_case_no,name_id_no, cc.discover_date,rl.timestamp
) z
Now comes the second issue: The above is actually a subquery that will link to a bigger table via cla_case_no ccx
SELECT
ie ,(select distinct z.cla_case_no from (
select cc.name_id_no, cc.discover_date ,cc.cla_case_no, max(rl.year_of_incident)Non_MW_Loss_Past_5, rl.timestamp
from cla_case cc, rbn_loss rl
where cc.name_id_no = rl.customer_no
and rl.year_of_incident < trunc(cc.discover_date)
and rl.type_of_loss < 1000
and rl.timestamp < trunc(cc.discover_date)
and (cc.question_class = 20
or cc.question_class = 25)
and (trunc(cc.discover_date)- (rl.year_of_incident)) < 1095
--and (trunc(cc.discover_date) <> (rl.year_of_incident))
group by cc.cla_case_no,name_id_no, cc.discover_date,rl.timestamp
) z
where z.cla_case_no = ccx.cla_case_no
) Non_MW_Loss_Past_5
FROM etc
Now only certain cc.cla_case_no from the subquery will corresp to the ccx_cla_case_no from the main table and the other entries will be null.
What I require is that if the subquery returns a result that IS NOT NULL to return 'Y' ELSE 'N' instead of the varies cla_case_no's and (null) entries in the Non_MW_Loss_Past_5 column
Thanks!!!

Hello,
I have an APEX application that I need to build a SQL statement for a LOV (List of Values). I have a hidden filed that contains the customer type which can be an 'R' or 'B'. The query needs to be able to display two different result sets based on the customer type of 'R' or 'B'.
If the customer type is 'R' then:
SELECT drg_descr d, drg_code r
FROM distance_ranges
WHERE drg_min_miles IN (0,5)
ORDER BY drg_min_milesIf the customer type is 'B' then:
SELECT drg_descr d, drg_code r
FROM distance_ranges
WHERE drg_min_miles IN (0,5,10,15,20)
ORDER BY drg_min_milesCan someone help me with what I think needs to be a case statement?
Thanks,
JoeHi,
You can try CASE statement with WHERE clause
SELECT drg_descr d, drg_code r
FROM distance_ranges
WHERE (CASE param_cust_type
WHEN(param_cust_type='R') THEN (drg_min_miles IN (0, 5)
WHEN (param_cust_type='B') THEN (drg_min_miles IN (0,5,10,15,20)
END;
Please try and let me know if anything wrong.
Anyone from the forum comment my code if there is any wrong.
Thanks!

Creating view containing case statements received error ORA-22992
We have a create view referencing table through dblink. The select statement in the create view has case statements, when running the Select statement alone, results are return. However, when executing the create view, it returns:
SQL Error: ORA-22992: cannot use LOB locators selected from remote tables
22992. 00000 - "cannot use LOB locators selected from remote tables"
*Cause: A remote LOB column cannot be referenced.
*Action: Remove references to LOBs in remote tables.
One of the source table has LOB column but not in the select statement. The strange thing is when removing the case statement from the select, create view works fine. Can anybody tell me what caused the error and how to fix it?
Create View Snippet:
CREATE OR REPLACE VIEW "ABC"."XYZ" (....
AS SELECT
CASE
WHEN A.OUTAGE =1
THEN 'Y'
ELSE 'N'
END AS OUTAGE,
FROM
TABLEA@XXXX A
LEFT JOIN TABLEB@XXXX B
ON
A.LOC =B.LO
AND A.SITE =B.SITE
WHERE
A.CLASS ='CUSTOMER'
AND A.PLUSSISGIS =1;What is your 4 digit Oracle version?
Try rewriting the query to not use ANSI SQL92 joins. I found a link where this solved a problem similar to yours.
DBLink problem ORA-22992
>
But, look at this curious thing: I re-write the query as follows:
SELECT A.ID, A.ID_REF, A.EVENDATE, B.DESCRIPTION
FROM A@ORCL A, B@ORCL B
WHERE A.ID_REF = B.ID_REF;
and it works fine... It seems like Oracle don't like the ANSI SQL92...

Fixing ORA-22992 “cannot use LOB locators selected from remote tables” error
You have migrated your Oracle 9i database to 10g and a distributed statement which worked fine in 9i now is getting error ORA-22992 “cannot use LOB locators selected from remote tables”. Even though the related remote table(s) does not contain any LOB column datatype.
FIX:
There is a bug on 9i,10g, and 11g that is related to this error. It is being fixed in 11.2. It can also be backported for previous 9i, 10g and 11g releases under the latest patchsets.
You may also do a workaround as follow:
Modify the affected SQL by adding the TO_CHAR function. For example:
-- Original SQL:
SELECT NVL2('a', 'b','c' ) FROM dual@remote_db;
-- Modified SQL:
SELECT TO_CHAR(NVL2('a','b','c')) FROM dual@remote_db;

See if that helps. -
Case Statement and Group By issues
Hi this is my initial query which works perfectly:

from reporting.ci_final@test
group by cla_case_no) z
where ff.cla_case_no = z.cla_case_noI now want to add in a condition based on a column called decline:
select ff.cla_case_no, Cost_before_Decision, Cost_Of_Claim, ff.decline, Decline_Description from
fraud_nov_14_final ff
,(select cla_case_no, (case when decline = 1 or decline = 2 THEN (sum(total_cost_adj_old) + sum(decline_estimate)) ELSE Total_Cost END) Cost_before_Decision
from reporting.ci_final@test
group by cla_case_no) z
where ff.cla_case_no = z.cla_case_noThe error message I receive is :
ORA-00979: not a GROUP BY expression
00979. 00000 - "not a GROUP BY expression"
Thanks in advance for your help!!

Additionally you would need to change TOTAL_COST to SUM(TOTAL_COST) in where case statement.
But then you would retrieve one row for each value of DECLINE in this query.
You also could use this:
(I don't know if it will meet your requirements)
SELECT ff.cla_case_no,

T-sql case statement in a select
When I execute the following t-sql 2012 statement, the "NO Prod' value is not
being displayed from the sql listed below:
SELECT DISTINCT
IsNull(cs.TYPE,'') as type,
CASE IsNull(Course.TYPE,'')
WHEN 'AP' then 'AP Prod'
WHEN 'IB' then 'IB Prod'
WHEN 'HR' then 'HR Prod'
WHEN '' then 'NO Prod'
END AS label
FROM CustSection cs
INNER JOIN dbo.Person p on P.personID = cs.personID
Left join customCustomer cs564 on cs564.personID = p.personID and
cs564.attributeID ='564'
where ( cs.type is null and cs564.attributeID = null)
or
(cs.type IN ('HR','AP') OR
(cs.type='IB' AND SUBSTRING(cs.code,1,1)='3'))
ORDER BY label
What I want is for 'NO Prod' to be displayed when
cs.type is null and cs564.attributeId is null.
Thus can you tell me how to fix query above so the 'NO Prod' value is displayed in the
select statement listed above?There is no CASE statement in SQL; we have a CASE expression. We do not use the old 1970's Sybase*- ISNULL(); we have COALESCE().
There is no such thing as a magic generic “type” in RDBMS. There is no such thing as a generic “code” in RDBMS. They have to to be “<something in particular>_type” and “<something in particular>_code” in a valid data model. How about blood_type
and postal_code??
There is no such thing as a generic “person” table in RDBMS. First of all, do you really have only one person, as you said?? But the important point is that these persons play a role in the data model – customers, students, etc. You are doing the wrong thing
and doing it badly. This table should not exist any more than a table of “Things” such exist.
And the reason you are beyond any real help is “attribute_id” which tell us that your schema is a total disaster of data and meta data mixed together in a non-RDBMS written in awful SQL. Based on cleaning up bad SQL for 30 years, it looks like you are an OO
programmer who never unlearned his prior mindset.
Why did you allow an encoding schema with blanks? Why do you have so many NULL-able columns?
SELECT DISTINCT is very rare in a properly designed schema. The DRI references assure that rows cam be matched. To get you started, look at this skeleton:
CREATE TABLE Products
(product_gtin CHAR(15) NOT NULL PRIMARY KEY,
product_type CHAR(2) DEFAULT 'XX' NOT NULL
CHECK (product_type IN ('AP', 'IB', 'HR', 'XX'))
The table name is a plural noun because it models a set (NOT an OO class).
The GTIN is an industry standard identifiers, and not have to invent our own.
The product_type (not blood_type, not automobile_body_type!) has a constraint that assures it is never NULL and never blank; I invented 'XX' as a default.
You need more help than you can get in a forum, but if you will follow Netiquette and post the DDL, we can get you started.

I want to do something like this in a SELECT where I set the value of one field based on another. Is this possible. If not are there any alternatives? Thanks
CASE WHEN [var_cpnt_brkpt_ct] = '0' THEN [enrc_cpnt_var_price_rt] = '0'There is no CASE statement in SQL; we are a declarative language. We have a case expression! There is no control flow, like you are trying to write. You do not even know that fields are columns. This is as silly
as asking for the color the feathers on a fish.

Oracle database 11g release 2 installation problem on windows 7 (64-bit)
First of all my windows is not genuine, but on my friend's desktop oracle download and installation worked fine, he chose "create and configure database" options, and it works very well on his desktop, though his windows is also illegitimate. In my case, when I select "Create and configure database" option and pressed 'next",
(Go to my blog to see it with snapshots: Computer Science: Oracle database 11g release 2 installation problem on windows 7 (64-bit))
it asks to select class, I select "Desktop class" and pressed "next". The moment I pressed "next", the whole setup thing disappeared like it was never started. I searched for all possible reasons for why its not getting installed on my laptop, I used registry cleaner s/w, deleted 25 GB of data to create free space if it were the problem, increased the virtual memory to increase the space for RAM, I did almost everything to get this setup working, but I found no success with the "Create and Configure database" option
and
then
I chose a "database software only" option and chose to store in a folder w/o spaces. This way, I got database s/w only and then later I found "Database configuration Assistant (DBCA)" from windows START button and clicked to create and configure database manually. The steps are pretty much interactive and doesn't involve much brainstorming.
The values I filled for
1) Global Database Name : orcl
2) System Identifier : orcl
3) I chose common password for both SYS and SYSTEM
4) while on Enterprise Manager Configuration step, It asked me to create and configure listener in oracle home, so for that too, I typed "netca" in windows START menu and clicked it. There I added a listener.
5) I chose a Storage area which was the Oracle-home itself i.e. where our installation files goes , in my case it is : C:\oracle_base\product\11.2.0\dbhome_1\oradata
6) Then after few more nitty-gritty clicks, we are set to go !
Finally to write SQL code and to create your first TABLE , type "sqlplus" in windows "START" menu and click it when it appears. A command-prompt like window appears , which will ask you for username and password, so here they are :
Username : sys/ as sysdba
Password : (its the one you created in step 3 stated above )
After this you are ready to write your first SQL command.Is this your solution to your original post at Oracle database 11g release 2 installation on windows 7 (64-bit) ?
Pl be aware that you should not create any custom objects in SYS or SYSTEM schema - you should create any such objects in a separate custom schema.

CASE STATEMENTS AND CASE EXPRESSIONS IN ORACLE9I PL/SQL
=======================================================
PURPOSE
아래의 자료는 Case 문에서 oracle 8.1.7과 Oracle 9i의 New Feature로 8.1.7에서는
sqlplus 에서만 가능했고, 9i 부터는 pl/sql 까지 가능하다.
Explanation
1. Oracle 8.1.7 Feature
CASE WHEN <cond1> THEN <v1> WHEN <cond2> THEN <v2> ... [ELSE <vn+1> ] END
각각의 WHEN...THEN 절의 argument 는 255 까지 가능하고 이 Limit를 해결하려면
Oracle 8i Reference를 참조하면 된다.
The maximum number of arguments in a CASE expression is 255, and each
WHEN ... THEN pair counts as two arguments. To avoid exceeding the limit of 128 choices,
you can nest CASE expressions. That is expr1 can itself be a CASE expression.
Case Example : 한 회사의 모든 종업원의 평균 봉급을 계산하는데 봉급이 $2000보다 작은경우
2000으로 계산을 하는 방법이 pl/sql을 대신하여 case function을 사용할 수 있다.
SELECT AVG(CASE when e.sal > 2000 THEN e.sal ELSE 2000 end) FROM emp e;
Case Example : 나이를 column으로 가지고 있는 customer table을 예로 들어보자.
SQL> SELECT
2 SUM(CASE WHEN age BETWEEN 70 AND 79 THEN 1 ELSE 0 END) as "70-79",
3 SUM(CASE WHEN age BETWEEN 80 AND 89 THEN 1 ELSE 0 END) as "80-89",
4 SUM(CASE WHEN age BETWEEN 90 AND 99 THEN 1 ELSE 0 END) as "90-99",
5 SUM(CASE WHEN age > 99 THEN 1 ELSE 0 END) as "100+"
6 FROM customer;
70-79 80-89 90-99 100+
4 2 3 1
1 SELECT
2 (CASE WHEN age BETWEEN 70 AND 79 THEN '70-79'
3 WHEN age BETWEEN 80 and 89 THEN '80-89'
4 WHEN age BETWEEN 90 and 99 THEN '90-99'
5 WHEN age > 99 THEN '100+' END) as age_group,
6 COUNT(*) as age_count
7 FROM customer
8 GROUP BY
9 (CASE WHEN age BETWEEN 70 AND 79 THEN '70-79'
10 WHEN age BETWEEN 80 and 89 THEN '80-89'
11 WHEN age BETWEEN 90 and 99 THEN '90-99'
12* WHEN age > 99 THEN '100+' END)
SQL> /
AGE_G AGE_COUNT
100+ 1
70-79 4
80-89 2
90-99 3
Example
2. Oracle 9i Feature
Sample 1:
A simple example demonstrating the proper syntax for a case
statement
using a character variable as the selector. See the section entitled
'Restrictions' at the end of this article for details on which PLSQL
datatypes may appear as a selector in a case statement or
expression.

set serveroutput on
declare
achar char(1) := '&achar';
begin
case achar
when 'A' then dbms_output.put_line('The description was Excellent');
when 'B' then dbms_output.put_line('The description was Very Good');
when 'C' then dbms_output.put_line('The description was Good');
when 'D' then dbms_output.put_line('The description was Fair');
when 'F' then dbms_output.put_line('The description was Poor');
else dbms_output.put_line('The description was No such Grade');
end case;
end;
- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Code ends here - - - - - - - - - - - -
Sample 2:
A simple example demonstrating the proper syntax for a case
expression
using a character variable as the selector. See the section entitled
'Restrictions' at the end of this article for details on which PLSQL
datatypes may appear as a selector in a case statement or
expression.
- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Code begins here - - - - - - - - - - - -
set serveroutput on
declare
achar char(1) := '&achar';
description varchar2(20);
begin
description :=
case achar
when 'A' then 'Excellent'
when 'B' then 'Very Good'
when 'C' then 'Good'
when 'D' then 'Fair'
when 'F' then 'Poor'
else 'No such grade'
end;
dbms_output.put_line('The description was ' || description);
end;
- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Code ends here - - - - - - - - - - - -
NOTE: The above simple samples demonstrate two subtle differences in the
syntax
required for case statements and expressions.
1) A case STATEMENT is terminated using the 'end case' keywords; a
case
EXPRESSION is terminated using only the 'end' keyword.
2) Each item in a case STATEMENT consists of one or more
statements, each
terminated by a semicolon. Each item in a case expression
consists of
exactly one expression, not terminated by a semicolon.
Sample 3:
Sample 1 demonstrates a simple case statement in which the selector
is
compared for equality with each item in the case statement body.
PL/SQL
also provides a 'searched' case statement as an alternative; rather
than
providing a selector and a list of values, each item in the body of
the
case statement provides its own predicate. This predicate can be any
valid boolean expression, but only one case will be selected.
- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Code begins here - - - - - - - - - - - -
set serveroutput on
declare
achar char(1) := '&achar';
begin
case
when achar = 'A' then dbms_output.put_line('The description was
Excellent');
when achar = 'B' then dbms_output.put_line('The description was Very
Good');
when achar = 'C' then dbms_output.put_line('The description was
Good');
when achar = 'D' then dbms_output.put_line('The description was
Fair');
when achar = 'F' then dbms_output.put_line('The description was
Poor');
else dbms_output.put_line('The description was No such Grade');
end case;
end;
- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Code ends here - - - - - - - - - - - -
Sample 4:
This sample demonstrates the proper syntax for a case expression of
the
type discussed in Sample 3 above.
- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Code begins here - - - - - - - - - - - -
set serveroutput on
declare
achar char(1) := '&achar';
description varchar2(20);
begin
description :=
case
when achar = 'A' then 'Excellent'
when achar = 'B' then 'Very Good'
when achar = 'C' then 'Good'
when achar = 'D' then 'Fair'
when achar = 'F' then 'Poor'
else 'No such grade'
end;
dbms_output.put_line('The description was ' || description);
end;
- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Code ends here - - - - - - - - - - - -
Sample 5:
This sample demonstrates the use of nested case statements. It is
also
permissable to nest case expressions within a case statement (though
it
is not demonstrated here), but nesting of case statements within a
case
expression is not possible since statements do not return any value.
- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Code begins here - - - - - - - - - - - -
set serveroutput on
declare
anum1 number := &anum1;
anum2 number := &anum2;
answer number;
begin
case anum1
when 1 then case anum2
when 1 then answer := 10;
when 2 then answer := 20;
when 3 then answer := 30;
else answer := 999;
end case;
when 2 then case anum2
when 1 then answer := 15;
when 2 then answer := 25;
when 3 then answer := 35;
else answer := 777;
end case;
else answer := 555;
end case;
dbms_output.put_line('The answer is ' || answer);
end;
- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Code ends here - - - - - - - - - - - -
Sample 6:
This sample demonstrates nesting of case expressions within another
case
expression. Note again the absence of semicolons to terminate both
the
nested case expression and the individual cases of those
expressions.
- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Code begins here - - - - - - - - - - - -
set serveroutput on
declare
anum1 number := &anum1;
anum2 number := &anum2;
answer number;
begin
answer :=
case anum1
when 1 then case anum2
when 1 then 10
when 2 then 20
when 3 then 30
else 999
end
when 2 then case anum2
when 1 then 15
when 2 then 25
when 3 then 35
else 777
end
else 555
end;
dbms_output.put_line('The answer is ' || answer);
end;
- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Code ends here - - - - - - - - - - - -
Although PL/SQL anonymous blocks have been used in all of the examples
so far,
case statements and expressions can also be used in procedures,
functions, and
packages with no changes to the syntax.
The following samples are included for completeness and demonstrate the
use of
case statements and/or expressions in each of these scenarios.
Sample 7:
This sample demonstrates use of a case statement in a stored
procedure.
Note that this sample also demonstrates that it is possible for each
of
the items in the case body to consist of more than one statement.

제약 사항
다음의 databasetype은 case 문에서 지원되지 않는다.
BLOB
BFILE
VARRAY
Nested Table
PL/SQL Record
PL/SQL Version 2 tables (index by tables)
Object type (user-defined type)
All of these types except for object types face a similar restriction
even for if statements (i.e. they cannot be compared for equality directly) so this is unlikely to change for these types. Lack of support for object types is simply an implementation restriction which may be relaxed in future releases.
Reference Ducumment
Oracle 8.1.7 Manual
NOTE:131557.1I have done the following code but doesn't
like the statement of - "case(butNext)". What do you mean "doesn't like" -- did you get an error message?
I'm guessing it won't compile because you're trying to switch on a Button.
I tried something
like "g.fillOval(100,50,70,90, BorderLayout.NORTH)"...no that doesn't make sense. You only use BorderLayout.NORTH when you're adding components to a BorderLayout layout manager. An oval is not a component and fillOval isn't adding a component and Graphics is not a Panel or layout manager.
Would appreciate it if someone could tell me how to position
shapes using the graohic method. I think the problem is that you're confusing shapes with components. -
Problem in installing dowlnloaded oracle s/w version 11g Release 2
Hi
I downloaded oracle 11g release 2 s/w from www.oracle.com.I downloaded s/w for windows 64 bit os.my os is windows 7. that is why i downloaded it. It is in two zip folders.after completion of downloading i open first part and i executed setup.exe file in database folder of first part.
in the install options window i selected "create and configure database " option from the available 3 options.one of the other option is "install database s/w only" and other i could not remembered.
after this i given the location for storing installed files. this location is in same location where i downloaded the s/w(D:\ location).
then i clicked next and finish button. upto 48% it works fine, but after that it is showing error that one of the file is not available from the source directory.
so what i have to do next.
i tried again by clicking the universal installer option from the start->programs menu. It is asking the folder location for source files, i given this downloaded location. but it is showing error like "the specified location is a folder location", if i selected setup.exe file the it is showing "the specified file is incorrect".
so kindly help me out in this one.
Regards
Raavi NaveenHi Ravi,
Here the issue is Downloaded zip files are not extracted at the same location.
For example,the downloaded files are
11gR2_part1.zip and 11gR2_part2.zip
Please unzip as below
mkdir 11gR2
mv 11gR2_part1.zip 11gR2
mv 11gR2_part2.zip 11gR2
cd 11gR2
unzip 11gR2_part1.zip
unzip 11gR2_part2.zip
The zip will create necessary folders and place files, 2nd zip will also extract files in the same folder.
In case this doesn't resolve error kindly paste the error received in installation log
Thanks,
Krishna -
Case statement problems in oracle forms 6i
Hello,
Any one can help me that how to use case statment in Oracle forms 6i.
i have read one thread and there was no proper solution so could any one please let me know to use case statement.
Please also let me know which category i should search for FORMS 6i.

It is ok but i dont have to use view there.
i need to use without view, because this code has to be use in FORMS6i.
But Forms6i doesn't support to case function. i'm newbie in Forms.
If you can convert to below bold one portion(case) into decode then please help me or
if you have any idea about Forms6i then please send me any link where is given explanation about excel report that how to make excel report through Forms6i step by step and that excel report should be generate on any dynamic path which is given by user:-

Oracle database 11g release 2 installation on windows 7 (64-bit)
I've downloaded Oracle 11g release2 for the first time on my laptop, but before it, I've worked on MySql database and oracle 10g too but they are uninstalled now. The problem is: it is not going as I saw in the video of installation. On my system, it asks for a proxy server, showing a "connection failed" dialog box. I doubt, the second file I downloaded doesn't get extracted to the same folder. But I am not sure, if this were the problem, it(setup) would have even started or not ? then I clicked on the setup and command line prompt appeared.
Then it asked to fill in the email address.
and Now comes the real problem, where it shown "connection failed" dialog box, asking for proxy server, proxy port, proxy username, proxy password. I don't know what values to fill in these columns.

I've downloaded Oracle 11g release2 for the first time on my laptop, but before it, I've worked on MySql database and oracle 10g too but they are uninstalled now. The problem is: it is not going as I saw in the video of installation.
I don't see any videos in the official Installation Guide ..Contents
On my system, it asks for a proxy server, showing a "connection failed" dialog box. I doubt, the second file I downloaded doesn't get extracted to the same folder. But I am not sure, if this were the problem, it(setup) would have even started or not ? then I clicked on the setup and command line prompt appeared.
Then it asked to fill in the email address.
and Now comes the real problem, where it shown "connection failed" dialog box, asking for proxy server, proxy port, proxy username, proxy password. I don't know what values to fill in these columns.
You don't need to give it an email address, and then you don't need to provide proxy server information. Try the installation without it.
