Cast Exception from EJB returning Collection
Still can't understand why I'm getting a cast exception when I call an object method when the object has been returned in a Collection from an EJB.
The object CountryModel is a serialised object, returned in a Collection from home.findAllCountries.....
I understood RMI returns the object in serialised form, why does called the CountryModel object method getCountryName() cause a ClassCast method? This object casting works ok for a non-rmi application.
Collection boris = home.findAllCountries();
Iterator i = boris.iterator();
System.out.println( boris.size()); //gets right results
while( i.hasNext()) {
Object obj = i.next();
CountryModel leModel = (CountryModel)obj;
System.out.println(leModel.getCountryName()); //causes ClassCastException
}Any help appreciated. Thanks, lebo

Cast exceptions mostly occur when the same class is being loaded by two classloaders, and thus a conflict. I believe that the statement
CountryModel leModel = (CountryModel)obj;
is throwing the exception and not the method call.
Kindly try to check that out.
Moreover instead of using the iterator use the toArray method and then try to access the elements. This would give an indication as what is going wrong.
Kindly do the above and update the topic.

How to return data from Ejb as collection to Front End application.
Hi,
I am creating a J2ee application. Here i am accessing BAPIs using stateless session bean through JCO connection. Now the BAPI is returning a return Table and return Structure to the EJB.
I have coded the following code in one of the Ejb Method as follows:
JCO.Table returnTable = null;
JCO.Structure returnStructure = null;
JCO.ParameterList paramList = siteBAPI.getExportParameterList();
JCO.ParameterList paramList2 = siteBAPI.getTableParameterList();
returnTable = paramList2.getTable("SITE_SUBSITE_INSTL");
returnStructure = paramList.getStructure("BAPIRET2");
Now i want to sent this data( returnTable & returnStructure) to front end application where front end developer accessing this returned data using Jsp.
My scenario is that , first i want to convert this returnTable & returnStructure in a single collection and then sent this collection to Front end.
My aim is that , the front end the application should not receive the Data, using JCO.table Variable but as a single Collection.
I am using NWDI-2004s sps10.
i need urgent help on this issue and i would really appreciate if somebody can put the answer with some sample code on how to return the data as Collection.if you want to return a result, then you probably shouldn't be using a message bean. message beans for for asynchronous tasks. session beans for for synchronous tasks. thus it would make much more sense to have your jsp call the session bean directly.

Problem is that on one WebSphere Application Server 6 is everithing OK, but on another I receive error :
On both server I have same jdk.
Error 500: com.ibm.net.ssl.internal.www.protocol.https.HttpsURLConnection
in line
conn = (javax.net.ssl.HttpsURLConnection) url.openConnection();
Where is the problem ??Sorry, should have been:
javax.net.ssl.trustStore=path/to/etc/etc/DummyServerTrustFile.jks
javax.net.ssl.trustStorePassword=WebAS
Didn't get it to actually work like that though. trustStore & trustStorePassword were always null when I ran my program under WAS5.1.
Here is what I did. If running from command line using WAS5.1 as JRE, first setup the environment:
set JAVA_HOME=C:\Program Files\IBM\SDP70\runtimes\base_v51\java\jre
java -Djava.protocol.handler.pkgs=com.ibm.net.ssl.internal.www.protocol myProgramIndependent of whether running from command line or in RAD7, code in program:
System.setProperty("javax.net.ssl.trustStore",
"C:\\Program Files\\IBM\\SDP70\\runtimes\\base_v51\\etc\\DummyServerTrustFile.jks");
System.setProperty("javax.net.ssl.trustStorePassword","WebAS");(would be better to be able to specify trustStorePassword in WAS than in code though,
but works as such)
One can use some other file but I just added the certificate to DummyServerTrustFile.jks.
Then, unlike I said, one CAN use the HttpsURLConnection, like this:
com.ibm.net.ssl.internal.www.protocol.https.HttpsURLConnection conn = null;
URL urli = new URL("https://some.address.com");
conn = (com.ibm.net.ssl.internal.www.protocol.https.HttpsURLConnection)urli.openConnection();
Note this uses classes from C:\Program Files\IBM\SDP70\runtimes\base_v51\java\jre\lib\ibmjsseprovider.jar, so it needs to be in classpath when compiling.
Now this way I didn't get a cast exception from using HttpsURLConnection. The point is one can't instantiate javax.net.ssl.HttpsURLConnection, because RAD7's WAS5.1 can't cast it into its own class (wish it could).
Also, I still couldn't use the javax.net.ssl.HttpsURLConnection.setHostnameVerifier method, because com.ibm.net.ssl.internal.www.protocol.https.HttpsURLConnection doesn't have it... So the result was pretty much the same as using a HttpURLConnection as I previously instructed. Well, I don't really need that method in practice, but I suppose one might need it in some situation. The IBM URL I quoted said WAS5.1 doesn't really compare DNS host name with the certificate host name though, so I suppose one doesn't need to programmatically set a dummy HostnameVerifier in WAS5.1. -
Runtime Exception from WDP generated interface class
Hi,
I am having runtime class cast exceptions from the Internal component file. There is no errors in compiling/building. The application is trying to use another method in the component in another DC. I believe some generated files may have go corrupt but i am not sure how to fix this. Anyone have any suggests? Or maybe other ideas what might be causing this.

If this DC is using is using other components then the problem may be with the UsedDCs. Check if any one of them or their models are changed. Then you have to reimport the models in that DCs. (Hint: Build and deploy those DCs if there have problems you can find)

Client code cast error:EJB returning data in Collection of Objects
Still trying to understand this EJB stuff.....
My BMP EJB returns data to the client in a collection of objects;
// Home interface (CountryHome) nothing unusual here
public Collection findAllCountries()
//Remote interface (Country) nothing unusual here
public CountryModel getDetails()The data object is a serialised object;
// data object - nothing strange here
public class CountryModel implements Serializable {
private int countryId;
private String countryName;
public CountryModel () {......etc etc
public CountryModel getDetails() {.......etc etc
public String toString() { ...etcWhen I try and get at the data from the collection in the client code, calling getDetails() in CountryModel causes a cast exception. How can I get at the data?
Collection a = home.findAllCountries();
Iterator i = a.iterator();
while (i.hasNext()) {
Object obj = i.next();
Country country = (Country)
PortableRemoteObject.narrow(obj, Country.class);
// this fails with class cast exception.....
System.out.println(country.getDetails());And to add to the confusion, why does calling the remote interface's getPrimaryKey() method in the client code invoke the toString() method in the CountryModel class and work?
while (i.hasNext()) {
Object obj = i.next();
Country country = (Country)
PortableRemoteObject.narrow(obj, Country.class);
// have no idea why this works.....but it does.....
System.out.println(country.getPrimaryKey());Thanks, lebohi,
you are getting a collection of serializable objects and not remote objects. the narow method has to be applied only for remote objects (actually it is the stub that will be received on the client side).
so you modify your code as,
Collection a = home.findAllCountries(); Iterator i = a.iterator(); while (i.hasNext()) { Object obj = i.next(); Country country = (Country)obj;
this will definitely solve the problem.

'Class Cast Exception' while invoking a EJB from a Servlet
Hi,
I am working on J2EE applications.I am using Webgain studio and weblogic server.I
got a problem while invoking EJB from the servlet.
While calling an EJB from the servlet, it is giving that "Class Cast Exception".This
is because, the remote home reference is not able to type casted to the"Home Interface"
of the EJB, even if I type casted explicitly. It is creating the context and able
to identify the EJB with the JNDI name.
Could please help me in solving this problem.I am pasting the code here.
Thanks in advance,
Dharma
public void doGet(HttpServletRequest req, HttpServletResponse resp)
throws ServletException, IOException
resp.setContentType("text/html");
PrintWriter out = new PrintWriter(resp.getOutputStream());
try
Context context=getInitialContext();
Object reference=context.lookup("ArlProjContractorAppletSession");
ArlProjContractorAppletSessionHome home=(ArlProjContractorAppletSessionHome)PortableRemoteObject.narrow(reference,ArlProjContractorAppletSessionHome.class);
//Exception is occuring in the above statement. It is unable
//to cast to the home interface
ArlProjContractorAppletSession the_ejb=null;
try
the_ejb=home.create();
System.out.println("the_ejb = " + the_ejb.toString());
catch(Exception e)
e.printStackTrace();
catch(Exception e)
e.printStackTrace();
// to do: code goes here.
out.println("<HTML>");
out.println("<HEAD><TITLE>Contractor TimeTracker</TITLE></HEAD>");
out.println("<BODY>");
// to do: your HTML goes here.
out.println("</BODY>");
out.println("</HTML>");
out.close();
I came across this kind of problem once. My problem went away after I upgraded
from 5.1 SP6 to 5.1 SP8.

Return proxy instances from EJB
Is weblogic able to return proxy instances from EJBs?
<BR>
I am using the session-facade pattern with DTO/Value-Object being passed between
facade and client(s). To handle different "levels of loading", I want to have
one DTO for an entity, but then restrict the available properties by wrapping
in an interface using java.lang.reflect.Proxy.
<BR>
Should this work? It doesn't. For example (from my session bean):<P><PRE>
return new MyDTO();
</PRE>works fine; however, the stubs generated by weblogic.ejbc have trouble unmarshalling
the return if I do:<P><PRE>
return Proxy.newProxyInstance(
MyInterface.class.getClassLoader(),
new Class[] { MyClass.class },
new MyPassThruHandler( new MyDTO() )
</PRE> returning various errors.
<BR>
Is this valid to do from weblogic? If not, I am mystified as to how not.
<BR>
Thanks,<P>
Steve
<BR>
P.S., I am using WL61sp3.Hi all,
Finally, I solve the problem. That is my misstake, i had a interface declared as private variable in the my concreteClass (inhert from AbstractClass)... now i declare as transient, let the interface variable don't to be serialize.
Now everything fine...:-) thanks for help anyway.
But just wonder why it don't throw any exception ???

Best practise for returning data from EJB's
I have an EJB that runs a query on a backend database and i want to return the data back to my Java GUI. Ideally i would like to pass a ResultSet back but i don't think they are serialisable so this isn't an option.
What's considered the best way to pass database results back from EJB's to a front end Java application ?
Thanks for any ideas you guys haveIf you want type-safety, define a VO (value object) that maps to your result-set, extract the data from the result set into the VO, and return an array of the data. Yes, it's extra work on the "back-end," but that's what the back-end is for. Just make sure your client.jar has the VO in it, as well as the Home and Remote interfaces.

Return User Defined Exceptions from SP
Hi,
Is it possible to return user defined business exceptions from a stored procedure to the dotnet app. through ODP. NET( equivalent to the throw keyword in Java)?
I would prefer to handle all of the oracle expections in the try catch block of the C# code.
Thanks,
PeeyushIs your question how to return a custom exception from PLSQL? You'd use RAISE_APPLICATION_ERROR for that, and yes it would propagate via ODP to the calling application.
Here's a simple dumb example:
create or replace procedure raise_my_error as
begin
raise_application_error(-20001,'something bad happened');
end;
Hope it helps,

Class cast exception using Finder method
Hello. I'm new to J2EE. I have set up one entity bean but am having trouble
with my current one.
Basically, I have two finder methods:
public ShareHistory findByPrimaryKey(Integer historyId)
throws FinderException, RemoteException;
public Collection findByShare(String shareId)
throws FinderException, RemoteException; findByPrimaryKey works fine, but findByShare causes a class cast exception in java.lang.String.
The stack trace in the server logs shows that it is my ejbActivate method in my entity bean causing the problem:
public void ejbActivate() {
//String numberString = (String) context.getPrimaryKey();
//historyId = new Integer(numberString);
historyId = (Integer) context.getPrimaryKey();
}The stack trace from my client shows that the class cast exception occurs
in the client at the System.out.println("shareid" + ": " + sh.getShareId());
line:
Collection c = sharesHistoryHome.findByShare("DCAN");
Iterator i = c.iterator();
while (i.hasNext()) {
ShareHistory sh = (ShareHistory) i.next();
System.out.println("shareid" + ": " + sh.getShareId());
System.out.println("value" + ": " + sh.getValue());
System.out.println("time" + ": " + sh.getTime());
System.out.println("date" + ": " + sh.getDate());
}//whileAs you can see I tried casting to a string in ejbactivate, but that simply causes an Integer class cast exception during findByprimaryKey instead. How do I allow both Integer and String objects to be used?
Also I am a bit confused as to why the String passed to findByShare(String) is being used in context.getPrimaryKey() in the first place (if that is actually what's happening).Oops my FindByShare method was returning a collection of shareId's (strings) instead of a collection of Integer primary keys, which would explain the class cast exception.

BPM API method getReportingDataSource gives Class Cast Exception
Hello BPM experts,
I am trying to implement an ejb application that retrives log generated by reporting activity element of, one of our BPMs my code is as follows:
this.reportingDSId = (java.net.URI) new java.net.URI("bpm://bpm.sap.com/reporting-datasource/dfo.no/dfodss_prod_dc/"+reportingURI);
this.ejbTrace = this.ejbTrace + this.reportingDSId.toString();
this.reportDS = BPMFactory.getReportingDataSourceManager().getReportingDataSource(this.reportingDSId);
this.ejbTrace = this.ejbTrace + this.reportDS.toString();
this.rrSet = BPMFactory.getReportingDataSourceManager().query(this.reportDS.getId(),"inn_registration", 1);
When executing the ejb method, I get Class Cast Exception when accessing
getReportingDataSource bpm api method.
Can any one help me identify what is the cause for this exception ?
Appreciate your help.
Best Regards,
Ajeet Phadnis
e-mail: [email protected]Hello Frank,
thanks for your reply. Yes I removed the URI casting and tried, but no success.
I have another BPM API method for process definition as follows:
* Get Process Def
public ProcessDefinition getDFOTimeRegProcessDef() {
this.def = BPMFactory.getProcessDefinitionManager().getActiveProcessDefinition("dfo.no", "DFODSS_PROD", "DFODSS_PROC");
return this.def;
And this call too gives me Class Cast Exceiption - a very long one like this:

Appreciate your help on this,
BRs,
Ajeet Phadnis
Exception was thrown.
Exception Trace -
We have a couple of servlets running on WLS 5.1 where the behavior when
sharing context seems to be broken on WebLogic within a WAR?
In the init method of one we initialize a single-ton class. It is then
placed in the ServletContext. Later a 2nd servlet is invoked and also within
the init method we first check for the existence of that class. The class is
found, but the moment we tried to cast it to its original form we get a Cast
exception.
We tried using both the servletContext returned by the
config.getServletContext as well as the
config.getServletContext().getContext("/someURI"). Both returned the same
object and in both cases the moment the cast is attempted the exception is
raised.
Note that a similar exercise when using an Object of type String it works
fine. This originally led me to believe that maybe is a classpath issue, but
I pointed the weblogic.classpath to the WEB-INF/lib directory where the jar
files are, but no luck.
Any ideas?
Cheers (and if Im wong PLEASE LET ME KNOW too!) Nope, you are spot on!

Oracle Arrays and getVendorConnection API and Class Cast Exception
I 've gone through various threads relating to the topic of Oracle Arrays and the getVendorConnecton API call to avoid the class Cast Exception.. i ve used all these but am still facing the problem...
I would appreciate it if some one could resolve the following queries :
I am using Weblogic 8.1 SP5 with oracle 8i
1. I read that the need to use the getVendorConnection API to make pl/sql proc calls with oracle arrays from the WL Server wont be required to avoid classCastException...
I tried to use the connection from the WL connection pool ..but it didnot work....I used the getVendorConnection API ..which also doesnot seem to work..
I got the Heurisitc Hazard exception...I used the Oracle 9i driver ie ojdbc14.jar ...after this the exception is not coming but still the code doesnt seem to work...
the snippet of the code is pasted below :
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~code is : ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
/*below :
logicalCon is the Connection from the WL connection pool
JDBCcon is the JDBC connection. */
<div> try </div>
<div>{ </div>
<div>
<b>vendorConn</b> = ((WLConnection)logicalCon).getVendorConnection();
</div>
<div>
//Calling the procedure
</div>
<div>
//java.util.Map childMap1 = JDBCcon.getTypeMap();
</div>
<div>
java.util.Map childMap1 = <b>vendorConn</b>.getTypeMap();
</div>
<div>
childMap1.put("SST_ROUTE_ENTRY", Class.forName("svm.stport.ejb.StaticRouteEntry"));
</div>
<div>
//JDBCcon.setTypeMap(childMap1);
<b>vendorConn</b>.setTypeMap(childMap1);
</div>
<div>
// Create an oracle.sql.ARRAY object to hold the values
</div>
<div>
/*oracle.sql.ArrayDescriptor arrayDesc1 = oracle.sql.ArrayDescriptor.createDescriptor("SST_ROUTE_ENTRY_ARR", JDBCcon); */
</div>
<div>
oracle.sql.ArrayDescriptor arrayDesc1 =
oracle.sql.ArrayDescriptor.createDescriptor("SST_ROUTE_ENTRY_ARR", <b>vendorConn</b>); // here if i use the JDBCcon it works perfectly.... <u>^%^%^%</u>
</div>
<div>
code to fill in the sst route entry array....
.....arrayValues1 */
</div>
<div>
/* oracle.sql.ARRAY array1 = new oracle.sql.ARRAY(arrayDesc1, JDBCcon, arrayValues1); */
</div>
<div>
oracle.sql.ARRAY array1 = new oracle.sql.ARRAY(arrayDesc1, <b>vendorConn</b>, arrayValues1);
</div>
<div>
callStatement = logicalCon.prepareCall( "? = call procName(?, ?, ?)");
</div>
<div>
/* ..code to set the ?s ie array1 */
</div>
<div>
callStatement.execute();
</div>
<div>
}catch(Exceptio e){
</div>
<div>
}</div>
<div>
finally </div>
</div>{</div>
<div>System.out.println(" I ve come to finally"); </div>
<div>}</div>
<div>
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~code snippet ends here ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~``
</div>
I have observed that the control immediately comes to the finally block after the call to the createDescriptor line above with <u>^%^%^%</u> in the comment. If i use the JDBCCon in this line...it works perfectly fine.
Any pointers to where anything is getting wrong.
I have jst set the vendorCon to null in the end of the file and not closed it. Subsequently i have closed the logicalCon. This has been mentioned in some of the thread in this forum also.
Thanks,
