Catch error in oracle package

I am getting the following error:
ORA-06502: PL/SQL: numeric or value error: number precision toll large ORA-06512: at "primary.package_check" at line 261 ORA-06512: at line 1
What should i do to catch this error in package? I am not a Oracle person...
thanks

Hi,
You could check you data and the line at which you are getting the error message.
If you want to ignore this error and contine then you could handle this error and continue by doing some thing like this.
BEGIN
-- Your sql statement
EXCEPTION
WHEN VALUE_ERROR THEN
NULL; -- ignore it and then continue the next statement
END;-- end block
But it is better you look into the code and data to see why yu are getting this error.
The Oracle help says this about this error.
ORA-06502: PL/SQL: numeric or value error string
Cause: An arithmetic, numeric, string, conversion, or constraint error occurred. For example, this error occurs if an attempt is made to assign the value NULL to a variable declared NOT NULL, or if an attempt is made to assign an integer larger than 99 to a variable declared NUMBER(2).
Action: Change the data, how it is manipulated, or how it is declared so that values do not violate constraints.
Thanks

  • Error Executing Oracle Package/Procedure

    I'm having trouble executing a procedure in a package of mine. I have a package in one schema I'm trying to execute it with a different ID (i.e. User1 in trying to execute a procedure in User2's Schema). The permissions look fine (Execute has been granted), but when I try to exec the procedure using "Schema.Package.Procedure" format, I get a "component 'PackageName' must be declared" error. If I create a Public Synonym for my package and exec my Procedure, dropping the Schema Prefix ("Package.Procedure"), it executes fine. To make things even more interesting, I recreated the packages in a third Schema and executedfine with the Schema prefix ("Schema.Package.Procedure").
    The only difference (I see) between the two schemas is the use of an "underscore" in the name: (for example) Schema1 and Schema_Two. Put the package in Schema1 and it runs fine. Put it in Schema_Two and it errors when fully qualified with the Schema name.
    Does Oracle have a problem running packages when the Owner Schema has an underscore in the name? Or am I missing some other potential problem(s)?
    Thanks in advance...

    355099: I do have another copy of this procedure in another Schema. I'll try dropping that other version.
    Mark: We have a schema for our data/logic and an ID we created for the web (so we don't access our data using our Schema Owner ID). The web ID is granted Select authority to Tables and Execute authority to Packages. We use this technique in other applications and it works fine. Those permissions have been set here but we still have the issue. I'll keep digging around. I'm sure it's something minor we are overlooking.
    Thanks for you replies...

  • Optional Parameter - Oracle Package Throws an Error

    Hi there,
    I have an Oracle Package & it has a stored procedure with optional parameter. The calling code is in ColdFusion.
    When I run my webpage the Oracle throws below error.

    When I run my webpage the Oracle throws below error.Never mind the error - your approach is most definitely a candidate for Oracle WTF.
    Nothing sane about this approach. Especially the decision not to use bind variables and slowing down cursor processing significantly by burning a lot more CPU cycles on hard parsing and fragmenting the SQL Shared Pool in the process.
    Why not used MS Access instead? It is far more suited as a mickey mouse database for a goofy application?
    Why am I badmouthing your approach to Oracle? Because that is exactly the primary cause, the #1 reason, for poor Oracle performance and run-time problems dealing with Shared Pool fragmentation. It is something that many Oracle experts blog about, talk about, write about. It is addressed in numerous books, Oracle documentation, and even Oracle Support Notes.
    And despite the amount of information available on how to get the basics rights in using Oracle... this approach you are pursuing still refuses to die. So it deserves to be beaten with a lead pipe when it rears its ugly head here in this forum..

  • Error when calling a Oracle package with length 30 (ORA-01948)

    Hi...,
    When I call a Oracle package I get this error message.
    java.sql.SQLException: ORA-01948: identifier's name length (39) exceeds maximum (30)
    ORA-06512: at "SYS.DBMS_PICKLER", line 18
    ORA-06512: at "SYS.DBMS_PICKLER", line 58
    ORA-06512: at line 1
    There is not way we can change the package name. How do we fix it on the java side?
    Regards,
    Praveen

    The statement 'ORA-01948' is coming from the database and not your java program. Therefore you cant fix it on the java side. There is some stored procedure, stored function, or other such code on the database that is too long. Use a database utility tool such as 'Toad' to examine the database and see if you can find what SYS.DBMS_PICKLER means.
    Here is a definition of ORA-01948 I found on the internet:
    ORA-01948: identifier's name length (string) exceeds maximum (string)
    Cause: A name has been specified that is too long. For example, dbms_session.is_role_enabled() specifies a role name that is too long.
    Action: Change the application or command to use a correct identifier.

  • Java.sql.SQLException: Internal Error with oracle.sql.ARRAY getArray()

    hi,
    I am having having problems with the getArray() of oracle.sql.ARRAY.
    Here are the details:
    Oracle Database - 9.2.0.6. The JDBC driver used -10.2.0.1 jar.(the latest available).
    I am calling a stored procedure from java, that has out param as a collection (VARRAY) of a user defined type.
    The stored procedure works fine, if the user/schema used to connect,contains actual type, and i am able to extract the user defined object from the oracle.sql.ARRAY, via getArray().
    But if i use a different user to connect which has public synonyms and execute rights to the actual type, i get the following error:

This application user does have access to types via public synonym, but it gives the above mentioned error.

  • More trouble with registering sapccmsr and EYE CATCH error

    Hello all,
    I saw that this was a topic in an earlier thread. That thread was very helpful for troubleshooting, but it seems I have everything properly set up and patched, but I am still receiving the dreaded EYE CATCH error. The system is a Unicode dual-stack XI system. Here are the details:
    sapccm4x registers with no problems.
    sapccmsr results in the following:

    Hi,
    I'd just like to make some additional comments.
    The issue comes from the "jmon.dll" library which is non-unicode. You have to download the latest SAR archive of the SAP CCMS agents from the Service Marketplace and update your agents as well as your "jmon.dll" library by replacing the EXE and DLL files.
    The agent files are located under:
    /usr/sap/<SID>/<INSTNACE>/exe
    The "jmon.dll" library is located under:
    /usr/sap/<SID>/<INSTNACE>/j2ee/os_libs
    Most probably you would have to shut down / restart the instance after you update the library so the changes take effect.
    You can find the latest SAP CCMS agents SAR archive in SMP under:
    https://websmp109.sap-ag.de/swdc
    Then browse to:
    /SAP Support Packages/SAP Support Packages and Patches/Entry by Application Group/SAP NetWeaver/SAP NETWEAVER/SAP NETWEAVER <version>/Entry by Component/Application Server ABAP/SAP KERNEL <version> <32-BIT | 64-BIT> UNICODE/<OS>/#Database independent/ccmagent_<agent_version>.sar
    Hope this helps.
    Kind regards,
    Rosen

    Thank you very much for your quick response.
    So, then I tried to deploy my classes without including the
    Oracle libraries in the advanced deploy options, and this is
    what I got (I try to deploy a Java Stored Procedure which calls
    Oracle Business Components for Java. It's working all fine
    locally in a Java VM, but now I want to access that remotely
    through a Java Stored Procedure):

    Its too early to conclude the issue is a bug with out looking into the logs. For the same reason i requested you to open an SR so that we can have a look at the logs and identify the cause.  If you are Oracle employee then you can share the VM details else we need logs to debug this further. If any one from your company can open an sr and share logs then that will be helpful. Can you also check if the shiphome that you downloaded is all correct and checksum/byte matches to what is mentioned on OTN.

  • Error executing SSIS packages from Agent

    Hi All,
         I designed SSIS package that loads data from Oracle table to SQl server table along with loading data into Diension and fact tables using SSIS packages only. First I created all SSIS packages that loads data into Staging tables from
    Oracle table in next level loading data into Dimension table and final level is loading data into Fact table. At lasts I created One master package there I'm calling all packages (Execute package task) differently.
    Configuration type: Parent package configuration for All child packages. XML config for parent package.
    When I execute SSIS package from BIDS data is loading up to Fact table. When I execute SSIS packages through Sql server agent ( Using File System Deployment)When I execute SSIS package from Sql server agent it is throwing an error message like

    Hi Praveen,
    The issue may occur if the SQL Server Agent Service Account or Proxy account doesn’t have sufficient permissions. Please create a SQL Server Agent Proxy account that has the permissions to execute the package and perform update operations on the SQL Server
    fact tables.

  • Sending an Email from within an Oracle Package

    Hi,
    I am trying to send an email from within a Oracle package Body. The code i have to do this is as follows: -
    PROCEDURE send_mail(sender_in IN VARCHAR2,
    recipient_in IN VARCHAR2,
    date_from_in IN VARCHAR2,
    date_to_in IN VARCHAR2) IS

    I have one question though. I am getting a ORA-29278 SMTP Transien Error: 421 Service Nota Available Error. I think this may be due to the 'Mailhost' value I have given in the above code. I have been informed that this should be the ip address of the mail server used or the ip address of the machine if it is being run locally. What would i need to put in here if i wish for an email to be sent from one hotmail address to another for example?
    Any help would be much appreciated!
    Thanks!

    hi
    The funnier part is that
    u can actually type in the sender's email id irrespective of the mail host used
    Like @hotmail.com,@yahoo.com etc.
    The receiver will get the mails from the email id that u wrote .
    The problem u r facing is becoz of the incorrect mail host server ip address
    Try to get in touch with the network admin for the mail server ip address
    other way is
    get the name it would be like
    smtp.domain name .
    hope that helps

    A regular Oracle database environment comes with several mandatory userids. These include SYS and SYSTEM. SYS 'owns' all details of the database and SYSTEM is the 'super DBA'. These are database userids, not operating system userids.
    I suspect the repository wizard wants to access the SYSTEM userid to be able to create a new schema (equivalent to 'database' for other vendors) within the Oracle environment.
    In older versions of Oracle, the default SYSTEM password was 'MANAGER'. These days, any security conscious DBA will have changed that quickly, but ...

    Edited by: shanmukh babu on May 16, 2008 10:11 AM

    Hi Shanmukh,
    MaxDB does not have packages like you'll find them in Oracle.
    But you can define your own functions and procedures.
    From the code-example you posted, I would say that a procedure will do it ...
    I suggest that you first read the documentation on procedures [CREATE DBPROC Statement|http://maxdb.sap.com/doc/7_6/a7/41ee11605911d3a98800a0c9449261/frameset.htm]
    There you'll also find an example in the Tutorial section.
    Be aware that the procedural capabilities of MaxDB are far less enlarged as in Oracle - but they do exist and work in their realm.
    So porting a full PL/SQL application layer to MaxDB procedures may turn out to be quite difficult and/or not the best choice at all.

  • Getting ORA-06512: at "APPS.FND_MSG_PUB", line 279 error in Oracle Sourcing

    Hi,
    We have recently applied Sourcing Rollup 2 J patch in our instance. After this, when the users change their timezone, the system behaves weirdly. The Server timezone and Client timezone are set to Dubai timezone (GMT+4) at site level. If the user is using this timezone, there is no issues. But when the user changes the timezone to something else (anything > GMT+4 or anything < GMT+4), he cannot publish auctions. He is getting error like:
    oracle.apps.fnd.framework.OAException: java.sql.SQLException: ORA-06502: PL/SQL: numeric or value error: character string buffer too small
    ORA-06512: at "APPS.FND_MSG_PUB", line 279

    ORA-06512: at "APPS.PON_AUCTION_PKG", line 1052
    ORA-06512: at line 1
    We feel like this is some issues with the system. Some times, this works, sometimes different kind of errors are seen. When user is trying to log in, another error like the following is seen:
    oracle.apps.fnd.framework.OAException: Application: FND, Message Name: SQL_PLSQL_ERROR. Tokens: ROUTINE = AppsConnectionManager.appsInitialize(int,int,int,int,Connection):-1,-1,-1,0,oracle.jdbc.driver.OracleConnection@192a848; REASON = java.sql.SQLException: ORA-20001: Oracle error -6502: ORA-06502: PL/SQL: numeric or value error: character string buffer too small

    ORA-06512: at "APPS.FND_GLOBAL", line 541
    ORA-06512: at line 1
    When we bounced server, this error went away. But the first error still persists. What could be the reason for this?
    Regards,
    Arun

    I traced through the packages. Here is the result:
    1. PON_AUCTION_PKG line 1052;
    x_newstarttime := PON_OEX_TIMEZONE_PKG.CONVERT_TIME(p_open_bidding_date,x_oex_timezone,x_timezone);
    'x_oex_timezone' is the 'Server Timezone' profile value at site level. 'x_timezone' is the user's timezone. If the user's timezone is not a valid zone (checking done in PON_OEX_TIMEZONE_PKG.VALID_ZONE procedure), this param is assigned the value of 'x_oex_timezone'.
    2. The PON_OEX_TIMEZONE_PKG.CONVERT_TIME procedure calls the procedure HZ_TIMEZONE_PUB.Get_Time(), and I hope here the issue starts. The OUT parameters to this procedure are toDate, status, msg_count and msg_data. Note that here the msg_data is defined as VARCHAR2(100).
    3. Within the procedure HZ_TIMEZONE_PUB.Get_Time(), the error is raised from line 877. This is a WHEN OTHERS case of this procedure. This is from the API ;
    FND_MSG_PUB.Count_And_Get(
    p_encoded => FND_API.G_FALSE,
    p_count => x_msg_count,
    p_data => x_msg_data);
    4. Next error from FND_MSG_PUB is from line 279. This is within the procedure FND_MSG_PUB.Count_And_Get, when executing the following statement:
    p_data := Get ( p_msg_index => G_FIRST ,
    p_encoded => p_encoded );
    5. The 'GET' procedure, sets the value from global table 'G_msg_tbl( G_msg_index ).encoded_message ' to the p_data variable, and here is a potential slippage. The global variable can hold a value of upto 2000 characters. But the p_data is originally defined to be of size VARCHAR2(100). I think this can cause the issue. I am not sure what is the message getting assigned to the global variable here.
    Could this be the problem? Inside the code, some assignments to fnd_mesage are done. But some of those messages are not present in our database (fnd_new_messages). Any clue on this would be greatly helpful.
    Thanks,
    Arun

  • Subquery for inserting doesn't work in Oracle package

    I have experienced a very strange scenario while inserting data inside a Oracle package.
    I have two tables:
    - table "A"
    Columns: "ID", "Value1", "...."
    - table "A_Backup", which contains backup data for table A. It has one more column "BATCH_NUMBER" than table A
    Columns: "BATCH_NUMBER", "ID", "Value1", "...."
    I created following procedure in a package to backup data from table "A" to "A_Backup".
    procedure proc_backup (v_id in number) is
    declare
    v_batch_number varchar2(20);
    begin
    /** generate a batch number using system date */
    select 'BATCH' || to_char(sysdate, 'YYYYMMDDHH24MISS') into v_batch_number from dual;
    /** insert Batch_NUMBER + data from A into A_BACKUP */
    insert into A_BACKUP (select v_batch_number, id, value1, ... from A where A.id = v_id);
    end proc_backup;
    When I debug the procedure, it will not insert any data into A_BACKUP. Apparently, there are some data in table "A" meets criteria "A.id = v_id".
    The strange thing: If I create same procedure. But this time I didn't put procedure inside the package, insert query will work.
    Please help, I have spent a couple of days on this and never make it work. I also tried cursor, it doesn't work either. It seems Oracle package doesn't support "virtual table" (subquery in insert) or whatever you call it.

    Welcome to the forum!
    Whenever you post provide your 4 digit Oracle version (result of SELECT * FROM V$VERSION).
    I don't see any package or test code that calls the procedure or error messages or results from any procedure calls.
    You say you have a problem with a package but don't post the package version of the code you are having a problem with.
    How is anyone supposed to find a problem in code that you don't post? And when you post use \ tags as discussed in the FAQ.
