Catching Mysql sql execution status with EJB and Persistence API.
Hi:
When I insert a duplicate unique Key, the try block defined below does not catch the exception and the transaction is rolled back automatically by Glassfish.
How is the proper way to handle this to catch the duplicate status?
public class MyDbEjb extends DefaultHandler implements MyDbEjbRemote { @PersistenceContext private EntityManager em; public void createTag(Tag tag) { try { em.persist(tag); } catch ( Exception e) { System.out.println("how sorry"); } }
Thank you
Hi annie,
Wherever you are handling database transactions,
you'd not be able to create a Connection if database
is closed (I think you mentioned turning off the
database) then at this condition, you should
certainly throw a System level exception and stop all
processing with some meaningful flow to indicate a
failure (like display message on UI). Even
network problems are handled by exceptions... so I
don't see a reason why you didn't wrap it in the
first place.
Anyway, try handling specific exceptions rather than
the general Exception... this will give you a better
idea of what to do in case of an exception.Yes i know this. I am practicing this in my non-j2ee server applications. But the j2ee app im making, i just pass the db url in the descriptor and the app server automatically creates the connection for my app. So where would i put exception handling?
2. how can i stop my MDB from processing the same
message?Guaranteed delivery is not supposed to stop
processing. It will continue to process the message
after certain intervals till the message is
delivered. You shouldn't deliver it at all, if you
are able to detect that the database is off
The problem here is that my MDB automatically retrieves the message from the JMS queue server. Im not the one retrieving the messages manually.
My assumed behavior of topic MDB is once the a certain MDB retrieves a message it will not retrieve the same message anymore.
thank you in advance.

How to master good design with EJB and JSP?
I use JSP to calling EJB. But the .jsp file is complex and it's difficult to maintain...I just want to work higher efficent with EJB,JSP and JavaBean. I want to know is there a good design with EJB and JSP? and is there any good material about MVC for EJB,JSP and JavaBean?
You should read the J2EE blueprint available on this website. Better download the PDF, and print it for yourself so you can read it anytime.

Export data to excel with EPPlus and Web Api - HELP!
I am trying to do a simple excel file export with EPPlus and Web Api. In the html client I have a button that calls the web api and opens a new window. No error is thrown, but the result is always "file could not be downloaded". I get the
save file dialog but the file name is Order/ instead of the expected Orders.xls or Orders.xlsx. Can anyone help? I'm surprised this is so difficult.

This has been driving me crazy for two days!Making some progress. I got the spreadsheet into a byte[] and used code from Paul Van

Problem with EJB and JMS - Failed to obtain/create connection
hello ejb and jms programmers,
My problem is my topic MDB keep on retrieving the same message when there is a database connection failure. Maybe somebody could help me how to prevent to retrieve the same data?
Given:
- I purposedly turn off the pointbase database because im testing my error handling.
- Im using SJSAS 8 as my application server.
- My message Driven Bean of topic type.
- Im using CMP for my entity bean
Here is the scenario of whats happening - step by step:
1. A separate application publishes a message to JMS queue server
2. My MDB retrieves this message and do some processing then inserts a record (transaction history) in my database
3. But my db is turned off or down
4. My MDB sends a successful processing reply to the JMS queue server
5. Then i noticed that my server.log keeps on growing so when i opened it, the record was not inserted and printed the stacktrace below "RAR5117 : Failed to obtain/create connection. Reason : javax.transaction.SystemException" (complete stacktrace below)
6. I understand the cause of the stacktrace is because the DB is turned off. But what i dont understand is that my MDB keeps on reading the same message. Since my MDB is of topic type, isnt a topic MDB supposedly reads a message only once???
So my questions are:
1. how do i handle insert database error?
2. how can i stop my MDB from processing the same message?
3. any better suggestions?
Thank you in advance :)

WLS 8.1 two domains with EJB and webapp deployed has JVM conflicts?
Test configuration environment:
Windows 2003 server installed with weblogic 8.1 server and oracle 9i.
This weblogic server have two domains, one is for EJB deployment, the other is a webapp that implements accessing to oracle through EJB.
The issue is when we tested a method provided by the EJB that uses double to calculate some total value, the result was correct. But when we tested it using webapp that was deployed on the same server of EJB, it's result was negative or zero.
I think the reason is that the JVM which both EJB and webapp used for calculation was the same and may made some conflicts when they run at the same time.
Any suggestion would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you in advance!

linuxappleThis morning I deployed that webapp to the Domain that deployed the EJB, The results of calculating in webapp's jsp was correct.
Any one be kind enough to tell me what the calling JVM differences between single domain(deployed by EJB and webapp) and two domains (deployed EJB and webapp separately)? -
How to work with EJBs and database for a simple login application
Hi all :)
I am new in JSP,EJB and Servlets. I just wanted to develop a simple login application, using JSP+EJBand servlets. In some tutorial I found that the beans are already populatesd with database records. But will it be good logic to retrive all records into a bean and then search for a perticuler users data for authentication.
Can any one tell me me what is the best logic for doing so. :(
Thanx in advance.Himanshu.Shekhar wrote:

Error during EAR deployment with EJB and web service
I created a simple stateless EJB with one method called echo that returns a string. I created a web service using the wizard, did a build and deployed. The deployment did not report an error, but the logs in the visual administrator showed the follwoing message, and the web service did NOT deploy.
Am I missing something related to EJB and web service security?
PLEASE HELP ME.

Help with EJB and JNDI, please
Hello. My name is Santiago, and i am a student from the University of Valladolid, in Spain. I am newcome in the world of EJB, I have done the first EJB from de Sun tutorial (Im using the Sun Java System Application Server PE 8.2) and now I am trying to improve it in that way: I have the EJB and the client in diferent machines conected.
I am trying to understand how to use JNDI, but i have not good results :( I have read about using ldap but i dont know if it is apropiated, or if it is installed automaticaly with the sun aplication, or if i have to download and install it... i am not sure about anything :)
This is my clients code (part of it)
Hashtable envirom = new Hashtable();
envirom.put(Context.INITIAL_CONTEXT_FACTORY, "com.sun.jndi.ldap.LdapCtxFactory");
envirom.put("java.naming.factory.url.pkgs","com.sun.enterprise.naming");
envirom.put(Context.PROVIDER_URL,"iiop://Santiago:389");
envirom.put(Context.PROVIDER_URL,"ldap://192.168.1.101:389");
envirom.put(Context.SECURITY_AUTHENTICATION,"none");
InitialContext ctx = new InitialContext(envirom);
Object objref = ctx.lookup("java:comp/env/ejb/Multiplica");
When I try to connect in local mode (client and EJB in the same machine) i get something like that:
javax.naming.CommunicationException: 192.168.1.101:389 [Root exception is java.n

It is even worse when i try it in different machines:

PLEASE, if you colud help me It would fantastic, because I am in that trouble, i have tryed 1000 solutions but i am not able to understand it.
Hoping you can help me.

in this table id and link_id are two seperate columns.You dont need to define to ref variable.
Select s1 from SampleTable s1 where s1.id=s1.link_idFor EJB Ql have a visit to this URL

ADF Taskflows with EJB and pageflow scope
Hi,
I am trying to create a simple registration page which is very simillar to FOD customer registration using EJBs instead of ADF BC.
I can achieve the registration in one page but I wanted to try this using a wizard based process using ADF taskflows.
I created a bounded taskflow with 3 pages. page1 is employee details, page2 is job details, page 3 is the summary page. I have JPA entities for Employee and Jobs and an EJB3 session Facade. I have used the Employees default constructor to create the UI bindings from the constructor section of the data controls. This creates an EmployeesIterator which I use it for bindings on all the three pages.
My question is can I use this Iterator binding in pageflow scope? If yes How do I do this?
The other way is to use a managed bean in pageflow scope and have UI bindings to the variables in managed bean. This option will work but I will not be utilising any of the features of ADF bindings.
Can anyone please suggest which is the better option.
Thanks
VenkateshHi,
pageDef files can be shared, but their instances aren't. The caching is on the data control side, which means that instead of using a constructor you would break up the input form into method calls like
createPerson(String, fn, String ln, String address)
createInterest(String hobby1, String hobby2);
dagging and dropping the method calls should the reate an input form. Submitting the forms allows you to build a new person object on the session facade which at the end is committed. This way the ADF binding works across pages, operating on a single new object

Handling SQL-Queries asynchron with libevent and libclntsh
Hy everyone;
My company has wrapped functionality around libclntsh with pro*C.
Currently all operations on the database are blocking the connector component, which in term produces the need for processes / threads, which is a thread on scalability.
Is there a way do do asyncIO/event driven programming like nginx or lighty do with something like libevent or libev?
If this is not the right place to ask this question, where should I go?
TIA,

What's the status with Flash and Android?
I have a Samsung Note 3 and can I install Flash Player. The only thing I can do is to install some other browser that supports Flash but they are full of commercials as and other junk. When will this situation be rectified?
It was Google, not Adobe, that announced almost two years ago that the Android Operating System would no longer support Flash (it's never been supported on the iPad).
The situation won't be "rectified" as there is nothing Adobe could do about it even if they wanted to.
