CATT Mode in BDC Recording

What is the Use of CATT MODE in recording parameters of  SHDB Recording .
Can u pls give some valuable information

Hi Krishnan,
CATT stands for "Computer Aided Test Tool". When the transaction contains more number of sub-screens or if the transaction is more complex to handle (for example, user defined z-transactions), then we use CATT option as they are reusable tests.

    CATT mode (controlling a CATT procedure)
    The CATT mode can have the following values:
    ' ' No CATT procedure active
    'N' CATT procedure without single screen control
    'A' CATT procedure with single screen control
    UPDATE upd
    Effect
    The specified update mode upd defines the update type. This can have one of the following values:
    'A' Asynchronous update
    'S' Synchronous update
    If the addition UPDATE is not specified, the processing mode is set to 'A' .
    synchronous update
    In synchronous update, you do not submit an update request using CALL FUNCTION... IN UPDATE TASK. Instead, you use the ABAP statement COMMIT WORK AND WAIT. When the update is finished, control passes back to the program. Synchronous update works in the same way as bundling update requests in a subroutine (PERFORM ON COMMIT). This kind of update is useful when you want to use both asynchronous and synchronous processing without having to program the bundles in two separate ways.
    Asynchronous update
    A typical SAP system installation contains dialog work processes and at least one update work process. The update work processes are responsible for updating the database. If, in a dialog work process, the function modules stored in interim storage through CALL FUNCTION ... IN UPDATE TASK are released for processing by means of the ABAP statement COMMIT WORK, the dialog work process will not wait for the update process to finish. This kind of update is called asynchronous update.

    so i want to know that What is UpdateMode and CATT Mode (seperate meaning of three Categories)..

  • Why some screens are hiddens in BDC record mode?

    I'm trying to create a BDC record in VA01 transaction but in this mode some screens are hidden  just like screen "Material substitution(selecting a material)" Dynpro 800 Program "SAPMV45A"
    Is it possible to show this screen in BDC recorder? how can i do it?

    i´m no expert in this but for a recording of material substitution you could try with transactions VB12 or VB13

    You can use VK11 tcode also which is similar to MEK1.

    and one more thing i face some issues when doing bdc for AS01, so i use AS91 and AS92 for uploading by using LSMW (direct input method and recording method) and it was successful.(if u have to do coding go for BDC/BAPI or there is no coding better to choose LSMW (it is the easiest way) as of my knowledge, so before starting just analyze once which method is best for ur requirement.

    You have got a message generated from message class "RQ" with message number "XXX".
    Are you getting this error during recording. Which transaction you are using for recording.
    The error messages will be generated when you documented is not proceesed completly via BDC. You can collect the error messages in to an internal table and print at the end of the program as a report.

    A Asynchronous updating. In this mode, the called transaction does not wait for any updates it produces to be completed. It simply passes the updates to the SAP update service. Asynchronous processing therefore usually results in faster execution of your data transfer program.
    S Synchronous updating. In this mode, the called transaction waits for any updates that it produces to be completed. Execution is slower than with asynchronous updating because called transactions wait for updating to be completed. However, the called transaction is able to return any update error message that occurs to your program. It is much easier for you to analyze and recover from errors
    one simple example : You are creating sales order from file and also you want to update header text of sales order.
    when you want to update sales order header text,you need to use save_text function module ,here you need to pass sales order number.
    when you use call transaction update 'A', data will update transaction level and it goes to the next record,here it will not wait for database .
    when you use call transaction update 'S',data will update transaction level and it will update database then it goes next record.
    if you want to update header text,then you need to use sync update
    database commit -
    comitt work - it will update data in database sucessfully
    roll back - it will not update in database.

    Hi All,
    Iam currently working on data migration project.
    Before i joined here,they developed the upload programes,by using Function modules.But when we are doing that,we are able to see in Over veiw,But when we go to change mode,nothing is there on screen.Then we tried Using BDC Recording for IT0105.Then working perfectly.
    So i need a help,if any one of you any idea on list of the Infotypes which need BDC Recording.
    I need the List of infotypes,so that i make sure,we use BDC .
    Its on priority,Pls have some inputs.

    Hey Anitha,
    BDC and LSMW are both data loading techniques.
    In both cases you will need input files in a specific format so that these are read by your BDC or LSMW program
    The main difference is
    Using BDC you can validate the data in the system. Suppose you want to check if an employee is active before loading the data then BDC is advisable because you can check the employment status of the employee and then upload data or else give a message that employee is terminated and data loading has been skipped
    If there is a straight forward upload without any validation then go for LSMW
    Finally it depends on your requirements

    3.Go to the transaction SHDB in another session ( you can also give TCODE - OSHDB in transaction code window and hit enter ).
    4.Create you transaction recording in SHDB . Ensure your transaction recording takes care of input values to all the
    fields to which you intend to pass values in the BDC.
    5.Once your recording is done correctly create the program from recording in the SHDB transction . You will find the button to create program in SHDB . Choose the option of creating from file when you proceed through the subsequent steps.
    6. Define data type t_upload and structure wa_upload in the template program with fields of structure 'RECORD' from the program generated using SHDB recording ( replace the field1, field2 and so on as per your requirement). For your understanding you can remove the suffixes to the
    field name but keep the field size unchanged.
    7.Copy the coding existing between 'do' and 'enddo' statement from the generated program . Insert the copied code between the loop and endloop code of form 'Do_transaction '. Replace fields of structure 'RECORD' with respective fields of structure wa_upload.Insert constant values wherever possible in transaction recording.You can also handle customised data conversions here.
    8.Replace 'TCODE' in the template program with the transaction code you intend to process in this BDC.
    9.Please carry out further syntax check and resolve the related issues.
    This program will provide for input help to select upload file from local machine. The file needs to be in Tab delimited format and is assumed to have first row as column headers .
    On successful creation of session you will be prompted with a Information popup giving the name of session ,and will take you to the SM35 transaction to process your session.

    Hi Dilip,
    You are reading your flat file into an internal table, you perform a LOOP over the read itab, but you are not using your BDCDATA data anywhere into IBDCDATA internal table! Those data have to be filled into FVAL parameter.
    Here an additional hint:
    1. The content of flat file is delivered as a STRING in GUI_UPLOAD. First you have to post these values into a structured internal table. And then perform the LOOP at this structured table.
    2. In the new ABAP concept newer ever user Header Lines (in an internal table). One reason: Header Lines are not allowed in ABAP Objects. Instead use
    LOOP AT itab into wa_structure.
