Cell Service Out?

Has anyone experienced bad cell service in Northeast Alabama?  Had storms last night no 3g calls are being dropped when they get through.  Text on and off.  Things like that.

I don't like to see customers having service troubles, sgmcgee1967. What zipcode do you seem to be having all this trouble in? Have things improved since the storms have past? What model phone do you have?

I have a 6 week old 4s running 5.1.1. Started recieving "failed sim" message yesterday. this leaves me with no cell service. Shutting down and turning back own seems to alleviate problem temporarily. It has happened three times now. Help.

Sounds like you have a battry issue but don't want to believe it.
If a car was running fine on one tank of gas, then you filled it up with another tank of gas and it began to run funny, one might suspect that tank of gas. But let's just say coincidence blew a valve-- would you think the new tank of gas was the culprit?
BUT WAIT!! It just might have been! The gas could have been of higher octane and put more more strain on the valves; you know, like going from 87 octane (OS6) to 93 octane (OS7) and showing you the engine was on the edge of compromise.
Sometimes you have to go with common sense. If everything else is ruled out, it must be the battery. And if it runs fine one moment in OS6 but immediately ***** in OS7, I'd believe my battery was suspect-- though comfy-- in OS6 but the OS7 showed its true power.
Moreover, if you had the answer-- or didn't want to believe someone's more competent advice-- why did you even call?  You've already shown that you don't know much when you asked if you could go backwards after setting up the new OS as a new phone.
Additonally, if you're such the know-it-all, but yourself the $29 battery and put it in yourself. It's a piece of cake.

  • Cell service working on open box Verizon iPad without setting it up

Bought an open box Verizon iPad 3.  Went through set up but not enter an Id or credit card for cell service.  But cell service is working, and I can't log into the account with any of my ids.  Any thoughts on what's going on?

    Hello,
I should be more specific.  The iPad does register Cellular Service with multiple dots on the upper left of my main screen.  However, there seems to be an internal "disconnect" because apps like Maps and Safari don't recognize or know there is an active cellular connection.
When I go to Settings > Cellular Data and slide the "switch" to "ON" the Enable LTE "switch" becomes available and it "switch" it to "ON" also the Data Roaming "switch" becomes available and I slide it to "ON".   Lower on the Cellular Data page are 6 apps in "Use Cellular Data For:"  All but FaceTime are "switched" "ON".
Under Safari in the "Use Cellular ...:" is "System Services.  Pressing System Services brings up 15 "Services" beginning with "iTunes Accounts" and ending with "Software Updates".  All 15 have some amount of usage shown.
Back on the Cellular Data page there is a listing for "SIM PIN".  When I touch the right pointing carat two lines appear.  The lower one labeled "Change PIN" is greyed out.  The upper one labeled SIM PIN has a slide "switch".  When I slide the SIM PIN "switch" to the right to turn it "on" a numeric keypad momentarily appears then, a moment later, the screen changes to the main page.  Double clicking the Home button reveals Settings remains open.
I have removed the SIM Card several times and cleaned the contacts with a "Q Tip" and Isopropyl alcohol, rubbed the contacts with a Pentel Hi-Polymer eraser and again with Q Tip and Isopropyl alcohol.  I have also inserted and ejected the SIM CARD drawer several times attempting to remove any corrosion from the internal contacts.  Again, some portion of the iPad knows there is an active Cellular signal but apps fail to register the connection.
    Any further thoughts?
    Thanks

i lost cell service after i install IOS 8 on my iPhone 5s
i update to 8.02, cut still same
    please help

    Hello there, jjthurlow.
The following Knowledge Base article offers up some great steps for troubleshooting issues with touchscreen response:
iPhone, iPad, iPod touch: Troubleshooting touchscreen response
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ts1827
If your device is experiencing any of the symptoms listed above, try the following steps:
    Restart your device
Hold the On/Off button until "slide to power off" appears. Slide to power off your device. When it is off, press the On/Off button to turn it back on.
If you can't restart your device, reset it by pressing and holding the Sleep/Wake button and the Home button at the same time for a least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
Clean the screen with a soft, slightly damp, lint-free cloth.
Avoid using the device while wearing gloves, with wet hands, or immediately after applying hand lotion.
If you have a protective case, or if you are using a plastic sheet or film on the display, try removing them and testing the device without it.
If the steps above don't resolve your issue, please schedule a service appointment with an Apple Retail Store for evaluation. If an Apple Retail store is not an option, contact Apple to find out your best service option or see the Service FAQ for your product.
Thanks for reaching out to Apple Support Communities.
    Cheers,
    Pedro.

  • NEVER GET YOUR CELL SERVICE FROM BEST BUY

Never again will I get my cell service through Best Buy, here's why.
In Nov of 2012 I decided to change my cell service to AT&T. I went to the ATT store and to Best Buy in South Nashua, NH to investigate the price plans and cost of the phone. I was going to buy a Samsung Galaxy S3, (top phone at the time) everthing was exactly the same at the two stores except for one thing, the insurance. The insurance from BB had unlimited claims, a lower price and no deductible. The sales agent from BB noted the process worked as follows "You bring your phone in, we ship it out to be fixed and give you a loaner phone. The loaner phone will not necessarily be a S3 but one that is equal to it." This is what other friends of mine had told me too, and that was the reason I went to check out Best Buy. Since everything was equal I decided to go with Best Buy ONLY BECAUSE OF THE INSURANCE OFFERED.
Now, March of 2014 I have a problem with my phone and it needs to go in for repair. I'm still under contract with Best Buy. I wait in line for at least an hour (did you know that you need to call ahead to make an appointment? I do now.), I tell the customer service guy my problem and he prepares the phone to be shipped out. Then he brings out the loaner. It's a Pantech P7040, a ghetto version of a black berry from 5 years ago. Not an Android phone, not a smart phone, not anywhere even close to what my Galaxy S3 is. I made note of this fact to the gentleman and he said it was the best they had for loaners. I then informed him that I USE my phone for work. Numerous apps in there that I really use EVERY day at work. I travel and my phone's apps are super important. We had some discussion about this situation that I would now be in and how the salesman informed me that I would be given a comparable loaner if I ever need to bring my phone in when they were selling me the service plan. This guy told me they used to do that but don't do that any more. I said that this does not weigh very favorably with my choices of whom to use to when renewing my contract. He told me that he didn't care. It's not his rules.
I realize that you don't make the rules you only follow them but still, the salesman told me (and apparently many other people are complaining about this at BB) that I would get a "comparable loaner" to my phone. The customer service guy said that they stopped that policy back in November or December of last year. I told him that I realize policies change to maintain efficiency but I bought a specific service and they need to honor what they sold me. You can't sell a service and then not give the customer what you sold them because you no longer like that policy, you can change the policy with the new contracts you sell if you want. He told me "If you read the entire contract, it doesn't say it anywhere in there that they will give you a loaner phone." Ya that's fine, but the salesman told me they would, that's an oral contract and is binding in a court of law. He then told me that they didn't have to give me a phone at all. (That didn't help this situation) I then informed him that if I had come in here and was told that I would not have a phone for a week "I would #$@% explode!", "Considering the fact that I was told I would get a comparable loaner, and then told that I wouldn't get any". I also asked that since I was traveling when my phone broke, could I call ahead to the store to have them order a replacement that I can pick up when I come home. "No, we have to see the phone first and send it out."
My repaired phone or possibly a replacement might be available by Wednesday. However, I leave for work again on Tuesday so I'm without my smartphone and stuck with this ghetto junker for over a week until I get back. This is not the service that I was sold and this is not the service that I was expecting. This wasn't one rogue salesman lying to customers to get sales, it was the company's policy to inform customers that they would get a comparable loaner phone. BB is liable to honor their oral contract with their customers. I would like my money back for the the service contract. I will NOT be back to BB to renew my cellular service. My intentions are to inform others that Best Buy salesmen will tell you what you want to hear in order to make a sale.

    Hello,
I was quite disheartened to read about your experience in seeking repairs for your Galaxy S3. It sounds like your visit was less than ideal with the long wait and a store representative who was less than sympathetic. We strive to provide superior service and I very much regret that we didn't live up to that goa, or to your expectations of us.
The loaner cell phone program and Geek Squad Protection (GSP) are separate things. Any of our customers were permitted to take advantage of a loaner phone if they needed one even if they did not purchase GSP. While some stores still have phones that can be provided as loaners, you were informed correctly that the program was discontinued last year. If you wish, you may obtain a prorated refund for GSP by visiting a Best Buy store with your original GSP purchase receipt.
I'm disappointed to read that this experience may influence your future shopping destination. It is my hope that you will one day give Best Buy another chance to win you over. Please know that I'm grateful that you wrote to us about this.
    Sincerely,
    John|Social Media Specialist | Best Buy® Corporate

  • No Cell Service

Is anybody else experiencing difficulty connecting to cell service in the Central PA area? Located in Elizabethtown and there is no way to connect to a call! Sister-in-law lives in Mt Joy and is having the same difficulty. Very frustrating! Is there a tower down or something. Why wouldn't Verizon send out an email/text/anything to there customers explaining the difficulty. I wouldn't be so upset if they would just own up to it.

Do a reset (Hold Sleep/Wake and Home buttons about 10 secs or more till Apple logo appears, ignore the Slide to Power Off that appears)
Note: You will not lose any data.

  • HT4061 night. i was in the middle of the parking lot slip on ice cell fell out of pocket and some fool ran it over cracking entire screen

i live in pa and we got hit with a snow storm last  slip and fell cell fell out my pocket and a car ran it over how can i go about this

Apple does not repair the iPhone 4, but will replace the entire iPhone for a flat fee; see the Service Pricing section here:
    http://www.apple.com/support/iphone/service/faq/
If you have an Apple Store in your area, you can make an appointment at the Genius Bar and they'll replace the iPhone on the spot.
There are independent iPhone repair services that may be able to replace the screen for less. Do a web search for "iPhone repair". Note, though, that if you elect to have the iPhone serviced by an unauthorized shop, all further support from Apple will be voided.
    Regards.

  • Low Cell Service in Home

My cell service in my home is horrible - we have iPhone 5s. Even friends that come over can't make calls. Most of them also own an iPhone 5S. We have to place it by windows and that doesn't even help. Always at 1 bar and most of the time it doesn't even ring. I drop calls all the time too. And it's even worse when it's cloudy. ha! I've been researching signal boosters, network extenders and wifi calling, but I don't feel like handing out more money when I'm already paying for a service I'm not receiving. Anyone have any advice for a solution? My zipcode is 06073. According to the map, we have excellent coverage.

I find it interesting people continually claim they are paying for a service they are not receiving. I can't imagine this is the case. You are NOT paying for a service in a specific location. If that WERE the case, you would be talking about a landline. A landline is the best service for a static location.
Cellular service is a mobile service and NOT ALL AREAS will receive the same(if any) level of signal. Some areas won't have any signal. You are NOT paying for signal in all areas. Service in any specific location is NOT guaranteed and even areas showing excellent coverage on Verizon maps will have locations of limited or no service due to factors Verizon cannot control.
The statement that you are paying for a service you are NOT receiving would ONLY be true if you received never receive signal anywhere. If this is the case, change your service. If you NEED service in a specific location, shop around for the provider which provides the best service in that area. No provider will have the best service in all areas.
If you decide to stay with Verizon, you will either have to live with the service they have in that location or utilize the method they have to remedy this problem. That method is normally a network extender.
It is the responsibility of the customer to determine is Verizon is the correct provider for them. Verizon provides a 14 day return period where you can return your device without penalty if you decide Verizon does not meet your service needs. Of course, there will be a $35 restocking fee for the device.

Thanks, James. Sadly, I had not upgraded to iOS 7 as I only had an iphone 4 and those I knew with the 4 who upgraded had major issues with battery life, so I decided not to upgrade. However, I know the phone was locked because the new "owner" called and hung up on me while calling the number I listed in the "This phone is stolen message" set by the cloud. Are you saying that my phone will remain locked if they don't know how to break into it? Or are you saying that it will no longer stay locked once I turned off service to the phone?

  • I no longer have cell service on my iPhone 4

1 day after the upgrade to 4.3.3 my cell service no longer works. It doesn't work in my home (wifi does) where service is normally excellent, and it no longer works anywhere. I have tried restarting and resetting it, switching airport mode on and off...which yesterday worked temporarily but not after I lost service again soon after. I contacted my service provider to see it there was a problem with the service....nothing seems to help. My phone seemed to work fine for 1 day after the upgrade but not the next day. I didn't do anything unusual that I normally wouldn't do. Any ideas while I await the tech people of my service provider to contact me?

Thank you wjosten, I have cell service back now! I backed everything up and went thru the restore process. I got cell service back so thought I would try loading my stuff back to see if it would work. So far, it seems to work tho the 2 texts I received after I restored and before I reloaded my data have disappeared but at least I have service back. I will continue to monitor for abnormalities and consider having it serviced. Thank you so much!!

  • I am getting redirects on iPad air and iPad 2 whether using wifi or Cell services.

    iPad Air
    running 8.2
    Model mfoo3ll/a
I did a search today for a local doctors website and phone number using google.
When I clicked on the site I was first directed to a "app" to buy ****.
I closed the window and opened a new window and typed in the URL directly and then got redirected to to other **** sites.
When I tried on the desktop computer, everything was fine and got to the website normally.
I then cleared all history, cookies and web data.  Still the same redirect result going to the same website.
I did the above and shut down and restarted. Still the same thing.
I read about possible infected wireless routers where one of the tips was going to a different wireless network and see if it cleared up the issue.  So I turned off the wifi and turned one the ATT cell service.  Still same result.
I am looking for suggestion on what to do next.
    Respectfully

    I did see that article.
Did you see where I said I used the Cell Service not wifi?  totally bypassed my wife router and its still doing weird sh_t
I am on ATT cell service and when I open Safari, instead of a blank window, it defaults to the BING website.  This is totally bypassing the router and using cell service.
I did a reset as per jazcan, installed 8.3 and still No Joy.

  • HT4515 I want to buy an unlocked 4s from apple and use it permanently on a foreign CDMA cell service (IUSA Cell in Mexico).  I am getting conflicting information.  Thoughts?

I want to buy an unlocked 4s from apple and use it permanently on a foreign CDMA cell service (IUSA Cell in Mexico).  I am getting conflicting information on whether this is possible.  Apple website says the phones are unlocked for GSM use only.
I called apple when i bought an Ipad to help decide on a GSM vs CDMA version and was told that if I went to Mexico with a CDMA version of the Ipad (2) that i would call the carrier give them some numbers and they would activate it.  When i returned I was to call Verizon and reactivate it in the US.  I ultimately got the GSM version so i never tested the theory.
I am now thinking of getting the 4S to use in Mexico permanently but want to use it on a CDMA carrier because it is half the cost per month.  But will this work?  Thoughts?

There is no such thing as an unlocked CDMA iPhone. All CDMA iPhones are carrier locked and the carriers do not allow unlocking. All legitimatly unlocked iPhones are GSM only The CDMA side is completely disabled in them.
You can only use a CDMA iPhone if the carrier you want to use offers one.
