Centering an item in a circle?

I am having trouble centering a number in an ellipsis - it seems the vertical justificiation is grayed out for anything not rectangular in shape. How can I center the number?
And, when typing along a path, I'd like to ensure that the path I create is not only straight but also that the starting and end points are at the same place along the X axis.

I'm not certain what you are saying here, but I imagine holding the shift key while drawing with the line segment tool to constrain to 45 degree angles will do what you want.

    This is so basic, I can't believe I'm even asking it. I'd

  • Reassignment of commitment items & fund centers in open PR, PO & MIGO docs

    Hi
    We  are using Fund Management (BCS) in our system since last one year. Now starting from next fiscal year ( 01.04.2009) we want to replace some of the existing fund centers and commitment items with either newly created fund centers & commitment items or existing ones. We will be changing FM derivation strategy too.
    How should one go about it? Whats should be the strategy and procedure for replacing the commitment items & fund centers in open PR, POs & other open document. I know there is option of  reassignment of fund centers and commitment items using reassignment derivation strategy. But I am not clear about the steps involved and strategy one should use while doing so.

    You can also combine reassignment with closing operations (Carryforward with reassignment)
    Pls check the link, under 'Closing Operations -> Derivation Strategy for Reassignments with Closing Operations'
    By doing so, you can carry forward for example open PO's assigned to given account assingment in 2008 to a new account assignment in 2009
    Reassignment programs RFFMCHAN and RFFMCHAT are normally used when Wrongly assigned documents or changes in the responsibility areas of the functional assignment necessitate account assignment changes within the year, or when PSM-FM is implemented later than other components.

  • How to Step and Repeat around a circle or radius

    For those looking for the simplest way to create multiple shapes evenly (equally) spaced around a center point, here's the only solution in Illustrator.
    1. Begin by drawing two intersecting guidelines, centered on your page. Turn on Smart Guides (CTRL + U) so you can make sure you are aligning the finished product.
    2. Draw the object you want to use. Center the object on the guidelines.
    3. Drag the object away from the intersecting guidelines.
    4. Draw a vertical line along the guideline.  Make sure that it extends through your object.
    5. Decide how many objects you want to create.
    6. With the vertical line selected, double-click the Rotate tool (Object > Transform > Rotate...).
    7. From the chart at the left, select the angle associated with the number of objects you want.
    8. Enter that number and click the COPY button.
    9. With the new line still selected, hit CTRL + D to repeat the duplicated line until it repeats completely around the circle.
    10. Select the object. (Make sure Smart Guides is ON).
    11. Click the Rotate tool.
    12. First click the intersection of the guidelines to establish the rotation point.
    13. Select the center point of the object and hold down the ALT key to move and duplicate the object.
    14. Move the object until it intersects with the next line. You'll see Smart Guides say "Intersect".
    15. Hit CTRL + D to duplicate the objects around the radius.
    16. Delete the lines.   You're DONE!

    here's the only solution in Illustrator.
    There is (almost) always more than one solution.
    Another one, or two:
    1) Draw the object and place it somewhere appropriate (maybe at a certain distance below the lower left corner of the Artboard X=Y=0);
    2) Draw a no fill no stroke circle with a centre appropriately aligned with the object (such as X=Y=0) and a diameter large enough for it to enclose the object, group with 1) or just select both;
    3) One of the following performed on 1)+2):
    3a) Object>Transform>Rotate inserting 360/N, where N is the number of items round the circle, repeat (Ctrl/Cmd+D) once less (delete the circles if desired);
    3b) Effect>Distort & Transform>Transform, rotate similarly  with one copy less (this requires grouping); Object>Expand Appearance  if desired to have independent separate objects.
    Some of the angles in the table are approximations and therefore inaccurate; 360/N is accurate.
    A new Circle Thread is born.

  • Text in a concentric circle

    Hi
    I am trying to create a wheel similar to the image below except I need three segments instead of twelve. I also need a few lines of text for each segment but I'm not sure how best to insert this. I have tried using the 'Polar Grid Tool' and using the 'Type on path' tool, however I'm not able to type within one segment / arc without the text going all the way around the circle.
    Does anyone have any suggestions as to how I may go about this? (Hope that's clear!)

    The three groups ar easy once you think about it.
    Back to the polar grid tool.
    set it to the diameter you require.
    set the radial dividers to 3 and the concentric circles to "0"
    draw an ellipse the size you want the inner diameter to be
    align the two using the align panel (center vertical and then centered horizontally.
    select the inner circle and and the polar grid object and click on theLive paint Bucket tool to turn it into Live Paint Group
    you can fill any section with any swatch you want including a fill or stroke of none.
    Very easy to do this with the Live Paint group. (Notice I filled the center sections with a fill of none.)
    The text is  described before if you want to make the text curved and i would think you want to do this with only tree sections because of the amount of curve the sections require.
    You make to concentric circles that will reflect the amount of leading between the two text lines you need ad the size you require to properly place it in
    the sections.
    you position those two concentric circles over the sectioned circle that you made as a live paint group.
    Lock the live paint group
    with the scissor tool you cut the concentric circles at the sections radial dividers
    then turn them into text paths
    then pair the two in each section by making them text threads Type>Thread Text>Create
    Now type your text for each section. You can do this with two triangles if you want the text straight

  • Odd behavior with distribute centers

    My problem is that the distribute commands are working but ignoring the order of my layers.
    Say for example I have an item in the bottom left of the page, and another in the top right of the page.  I have several other items on their own layers between the other two.  If I select all of those layers and link them, then use the distribute centers options, the horizontal distribution works as expected with the items starting to the left and then moving gradually to the right in ascending layer order.
    However if I use distribute vertical centers, the items will ignore the order of the layers and distribute them in opposite order.  It even takes the bottom layer (bottom left item) and moves it second furthest to the right.  The result is that I end up with a distribution that starts on the right, and moves up and to the left, then takes the top layer and leaves it where it was before.
    What am I doing wrong that causes the distribution process to ignore the relative order of the layers?
    Another note is that I am at work, and only have Photoshop CS2 Available.  I do not have photoshop at home and will not be able to test any additional theories until Monday but I will try and follow up.

    Photoshop senses that the objects in the first set of 5 actually go downhill slightly, so Photoshop tries to keep that "downhill" arrangement.  Even if they're just one pixel off from perfect alignment, it tries to keep the highest one highest, the second highest one second highest and so on.
    If the objects are all EXACTLY on the same coordinate, then it distributes them by layer order, moving the lowest layer first.
    So the proper way to use the tool is to get the objects close by hand, then use the alignment features to fine tune their positions.
    Examples:
    Note that the A through E bubbles go just slightly downhill here.
    Here the layers are in the same order as above, but the A through E bubbles go slightly uphill.
    In this case, A through E are all exactly on the same pixel vertically, and the layers are ordered A through E, bottom to top:
    Here, A through E are aligned exactly vertically again, but their layer order has been reversed:

  • New project: Use AE or PP?

    My goal is to create a video where I "help" the viewer follow along with a music score while the music is playing.
    I've been using FCPX, but I think that Motion might be more suitable. When I look for a consensus on the web, it seems that AE is the 800 pound gorilla in this arena. Because I'm new to both motion graphics products, I thought I'd learn AE.
    So, here's what I have:
    1. A PNG graphic that I've created of a score.
    2. An audio file of that music.
    What I'd like to do is to "scroll" across the score and add the audio file. This would give the viewer the feeling of reading the music. Along the way I'd like to have items like lines, circles, and arrows highlight things in the score that is coordinated to the music.
    What's the product to use for this? Do I create a static page in PP, add the audio, and then transfer that to AE for the scrolling? Or can I do the whole thing in AE?
    Any assistance on the approach to take in either product would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

    Thank you both for the quick replies. I started to go through some online training and purchased an ebook (Adobe Classroom in a Book for AE CS6), so  I'm off.
    I'm  familiar with using keyframes and layers in the Apple world of the older FCS and FCPX so the concepts are not problematic. We'll see how I do when I start working through the exercises. I agree that the learning curve will be a challenge, but AE seems to be a good tool to have in my "toolbelt."

  • Found a workflow to export an iTunes playlist in MY play order-doesn't work

    Here is the Automator script I found to work around the fact that iTunes will invariably burn a playlist in alpha order, no matter what we do. I found it here: http://www.macosxhints.com/article.php?story=20080424194133862
    1. Automator » Ask for Confirmation (This may be Leopard only.). This asks if the user wishes to continue, since it may take a while to run.
    2. iTunes » Get Selected iTunes Items. This will select all songs that you've selected in iTunes, such as the songs in a playlist.
    3. Finder » Copy Finder Items. This will copy the song files to the Finder. Select a default folder, such as the Desktop. Check the "Show This Action When the Workflow Runs" box under Options to allow you to choose a folder to export a particular playlist into.
    4. Finder » Rename Finder Items (Make Finder Item Names Sequential). You should say Make Sequential in the top drop-down, and then select Add number to existing item name. Select Place number before name, Start numbers at 1, separated by dash (or underscore, etc), and make all numbers X digits long. X should be 1 to 3, depending on how many songs you have -- three digits will allow you to export more than 100 songs.
    5. Save your workflow to the scripts folder, or as an application to add to your Dock.
    When run, the workflow will first copy the files to the selected Finder folder, then rename them. You can then burn the folder -- and any other folders of exported playlists -- to a disc, using the Finder or Toast. Problem solved!
    Looks brilliant, right? And it should work. I set it up exactly as it's listed here. I went into iTunes, clicked on my playlist, and selected the tracks. When the script runs, "Get Selected Items" gives conflicting messages. On one hand, it takes no time at all to import the 116 mp3 files I have selected in my playlist, and they show up in the results window for "Get Selected Items". Yet at the same time, in the Log, the yellow warning triangle appears and says "The action Get Selected Items was not supplied with the required data". And directly under that in the log is "Get Selected Items completed" with a green checkmark next to it. Meanwhile, it only took 67 seconds to "Get Selected Items" with its green checkmark, and "Converting iTunes items" is the one with the grey circle with the arrow in it (indicating it's currently running), yet the progress bar at the bottom of the Automator window still say "Get Selected Items" and the circle of gray bars is *still spinning*, twenty minutes later.
    Anybody have any clues?

    Paste the script text into the Script Editor application located in the /Applications/AppleScript folder. From there, you can save it as an application (the Startup Screen option, if desired, will put up a dialog to confirm if you want to run the script), and place it where you want. Double-click on the application to make it go.
    Normally, the only things that need to be in a particular place are things like folder actions, Automator plugins, and items run from the Scripts menu.

  • Employee wise Budget and Expense Tracking in FM-BCS

    We have Activated FM-BCS to one of our client for budget tracking.  Our client needs Employee wise expenses tracking for better and effective control. There is a requirement of capturing the budget Amount and Actual Amount on the basis of Expenses wise, Department Wise and Employee wise.  For Example: Client wants to maintain the budget Employee wise Department wise and Expenses. Like
    Employee No (PERNR): 1234
    Department (Cost Center): Marketing
    Expenses (GL Code): Telephone Expenses
    Grouping of Expenses: Operating Expenses
    Tracking Method: How much one Employee 1234 has budget for Telephone expenses and how much he has spend over a particular period.
    So we have mapped as follows in FM-BCS to address the above issue:
    Cost Center = Fund Center
    GL Code = Commitment Items
    Group of Expenses = Fund
    Through FMBB, we have given the budget values as follows:
    Fund+Fund Centers+Commitment Items.  And actuals also we could capture.
    But we are not able to map the Employee numbers in FM. How to accommodate / map the employee nos to FM Account Assignments. Can we map employee numbers to Funded Programs (700 employees in number and Overhead GL codes are around 50)

    Hi,
    To start with, choosing 'fund' for representing group of expenses, does not make much sense. Your expenses are already mapped by commitment items, being representative object for G/L. If you want to group those, you can use simple hierarchy of commitment items. 'Fund', when used properly, belongs more to budget domain, rather than to the expenses. For example, it could represent the source of the budget.
    Secondly, having budget control on employee level sounds bit strange. Is your client going to budget 700 employees with different combinations of G/Ls? For what reason? And what happens if employee exceeds the budget? They won't pay him? All this does not make much sense. I understand, if you want to collect statistical data on the expenses made by employees. You can do it either via CO (internal order) or via self-developed reports based on PERNR.

  • My new mac mini downloaded a firmware update. I saw this in apps but gave an error when launching. Now what?

    Yesterday I received a new mac mini (actually, a refurbished one that was originally released in July, sold from Apple).  It downloaded a bunch of stuff when I did the software update, including an EFI Firmware update for the mac mini.
    As far as I can tell everything ran just fine.  However, I noticed in my applications folder (possibly under "utilities" though I may be wrong), an item with the circle/slash through it.  It was the firmware update.  I tried to open it and I received a message that the application could not be opened because of a problem when downloading it.
    I deleted the file, hoping the software update would catch it again, no luck.
    This is a new system and I'm hesitant to start deleting receipts, library files, etc., on my own.
    I did unplug it and re-boot.  No change.
    I checked for firmware updates and looked at my system info and it looks like I have the current version.
    I tried to manually download the latest firmware update for my system and it told me that this software wasn't for my system, although I'm sure I downloaded the right file for my system.
    Why would that app have the circle/slash through it but looked like it may have run based on my system info?
    Should I do anything else at this point or just leave it alone?

    I have a Mac Mini (mid-2011) with that same app circled out. I just left it as is in Utilities since I have no idea what it is and it's not hurting anything. Unfortunately, it won't show up in Installed Software.
    You said you deleted the app file from Utilities. Is the Mac mini EFI Firmware Update.app still in your Trash? If so, why not just put it back and not worry about it?
    As far as I know the firmware is installed. Check your System info by clicking  -> About This Mac -> More Info....-> System Report. Check the Hardware Overview and the Boot ROM Version:. It should be the same as my Mac Mini below if the EFI 1.3 firmware was installed.

  • Graphic Issues with Leopard - iMac 24" White GeForce 7300 GT

    Upon installing Leopard, I've noticed several graphics issues and general lag and delayed response with the interface. I'm running a 24" iMac 2.16ghz White early 2007, 3gb of RAM, with the GeForce 7300GT card. I have Time Machine disabled, and Spotlight has fully indexed.
    When installing Leopard, I did an "Erase and Install" and have manually installed my Applications after the Leopard install. I'm using only a few applications that are all "Leopard ready" and have a relatively clean system at this point. I have also cleaned the PRAM, per the recommendations in some of the threads ive read, which didn't seem to correct the issue in this case.
    It seems that any time I run any type of video or graphical application, such as Photo Booth, World of Warcraft, iChat, etc, I get a large amount of lag and slow response with the interface. Windows respond very slowly, and the applications freeze for 15-20 seconds. Even when not engaging any applications, opening folders in the finder as well as the dock appear to stall and respond very slowly.
    Aside from these issues, Leopard has performed very well and I have had no other issues. Quicklook and coverflow all seem to respond very quickly and smoothly. My guess is that it may be driver related as it seems to be centered around items that are engaging the video card, though it is strange how some graphical effects seem to work smoothly while others are rather choppy. I have been watching the Activity Monitor and there don't appear to be any processes that are sucking up CPU, and nothing obvious that may be reducing performance.
    I'm just curious if anyone else has noticed anything similar to this on similar hardware, or possibly may know what the culprit could be. My best guess, again, is that it could be the drivers or firmware with this specific hardware that I'm using.

    I've had the same graphics issues with my white iMac 24 (serial no starts W8638), but with the GeForce 7600 card. AppleCare got me to do all the usual stuff (reset PRAM, clean Leopard install etc) but problems continued. The usual pattern is that after a while horizontal lines appear (usually in Safari) and things deteriorate form then on until there is so much pixellation that I have to turn off and back on.
    Yesterday I ran for several hours using SMCFanControl to set the fans to max and had no problems, so my suspicion is that the additional graphics requirements of Leopard are over-heating the graphics card or logic board.
    The Apple engineer took the machine away today and said they'll probably replace the logic board and graphics card (I think they can't change one without the other in the iMac?).
    Will be a few days but I'll report back on what repairs they make and whether they solve the problem. My fear is that any changes they make will have no effect if its a design problem and the card is just not up to the job without over-heating. Though it could be the card just needs a good clean
    Has anyone else tried increasing fan speed?

  • ICloud 3.1 will not install

    When installing iCloud 3.1, it seems to install correctly but "rolls back" when trying to remove components appx. 2/3 through the process stating that that Windows Installer cannot open a file needed to complete the install.  Any suggestions?

    I have now got my "buttons" back ("Refresh iCloud" & "Notifications"), but in spite of that my shared calendar does not sync the events I insert in my PC Outlook 2007 to my other 3 devices.
    Events between my 2 iPhones (iP5/OS 7.0.4) work fine, even with my other Win7 PC.
    All was fine until I updated my iCloud a week ago... :-(
    I have now - as an admin in Outlook - under Tools/Trust Center/Add ins activated the iCloud Add-in, so it is not any longer Deactivated (?)
    Under Help / Outlook 2007 - under Disabled Items the add-in is now removed. It was there even after it had been removed from the Trust Centers Disabled Items..
    This is honestly the most stupid way of using nice time (thank god it's raining today and my golf was cancelled.. )

    But I am getting error "The annual values in commitment budget 2008 for one or more funds centers/commitment items 2008 are less than the annual release."

    I dont have much Idea on the budget allocations. Can anyone explain me how to process this.

    Here we enter budget in fr5o and then release the same either fully or partially. I will suggest you to check the combination of budget entered in fr50. From the error it sems that the combination of fund, fund center & commitment item does not have budget enterd in fr50.
