Certified digital signature

Does anyone know how I can assign a digital signature to a PDF document, a word or pages document or an email message using Snow leopard?
Thanks
OF

You can download Adobe Digital Signature here.
http://www.adobe.com/security/partners_cds.html
Goggle "Digital Signature for more"
Also, if you have Adobe Acrobat or Acrobat Pro it's built-in.
EDIT: There's nothing in SL and also note that not all institutions accept digital signatures.

  • How do I delete a digital signature field?

I have Adobe Acrobat Pro 9 on Snow Leopard. I created a digital signature for a PDF file but it didn't look good, so I decided to delete it. I figured out how to delete the signature, but the signature field with the little red arrow did not delete with my signature. I want my PDF form to revert to the way it was before I created the signature. I cannot simply close the PDF without saving because I'd lose all the information I've already entered. Stupid me forgot to save before attempting the digital signature.
HOW CAN I DELETE the digital signature field? Help!

    Hi SM,
The place to look for permission settings is on the Security tab of the Document Properties dialog. You can get there by selecting the File > Properties menu item and then select the Security tab.
One thing to note is if the file is Reader Enabled you will need to use the File > Save a Copy menu item to create a non-Reader enabled version of the file. You cannot edit a Reader Enabled file. As an aside, the Save a Copy menu item won't be there if the file is not Reader Enabled.
If the file was created using Designer (which is only on Windows and I know you are using a Mac) then it has to be edited in Designer.
If the file was certified, then you need to remove (clear) the certifying signature before you can edit the file, and to do that you must have access to the private key that was used as part of that signature operation.
Finally, if the file is encrypted (e.g. Password Security or Certificate Security), you can edit the file, but you have to get Acrobat to realize you are the document owner which means you need the Permissions password or or logged in using a document owners digital ID (the former is only for Password Security and the latter is only for Certificate Security).

  • Digital signatures with different versions of Reader

I have created a form which requires a digital signature for approval. Typically, an employee will complete the form in Reader and forward it to a supervisor for approval. The supervisor needs to sign it digitally and forward it to me.
The issue we are having is with those employees who are completing the form in Reader and the supervisor (or someone thereafter) has a more updated version of Reader and cannot sign the document. What can we do to stop this from happening? There is no practical way to keep everyone on the same version of Reader. We will have many more forms which require a signature, and we need this issue resolved. (I am using Adobe Acrobat 9 Pro to create the forms.)
Also, is there a way to verify the digital signature without using a third-party source? At this point, we know anyone can create a digital signature using someone's hand-written signature they found on another paper and we would like to prevent this from happening. We need to validate the person who used the digital signature is really that person.
Any help is appreciated! Thank you!

If you are creating your forms in Acrobat 9 Pro. and then Reader-enabling them for digital signatures, then recipients of the form will need to use at least version 8 of the Adobe Reader. Also, you'll need to do a few things during the authoring stage of your form, if your form changes by role (i.e., additional data is entered, annotations, or multiple signatures). Mainly you'll need to use a certification sig. for the first signature and set permitted changes after certifying.
You can find a lot more detail on best practices on developing forms for multiple signatures in the Digital Signature User Guide at:
    http://www.adobe.com/devnet/acrobat/pdfs/acrobat_digsig_userguide_90.pdf
The guide also explains how to validate documents (authenticity validation and document integrity validation).

  • Acrobat 9,10 failing to validate digital signature while Acrobat 8 validating it.

I am facing an issue while validating a digital signature. I applied a certified signature with “Annotation, form fill-in, and digital signatures” but
when I apply Redaction “find and permanently remove” on a digitally signed document, Adobe Acrobat 9 and 10 complains that signature is Invalid But Adobe 8 is validating it. I have analyzed  that Adobe Acrobat applying Redaction in append mode and original content of signature  remains unchanged after Redaction.
Can someone let me know what should be the actual behavior?
Why Adobe Acrobat 9 and 10 failing to verify the signature even Adobe Acrobat keep enable Redaction which means it is allow to apply in a certified signed document with “Annotation, form fill-in, and digital signatures” option.
    Prompt responses are greatly appreciated!!

When you sign, you should see where you can select the signature appearance name from a dropdown in the dialog.

  • How to do Multiple digital signatures?

I have created a form in Acrobat 9 Pro with multiple digital signatures. This is an approval form that is emailed "up the chain of command".  I have enabled extended features in Adobe Reader so that users without Acrobat 9 can digitally sign the form.  I created the form and did a certified signature.  I then emailed it to a typical user who filled in the form and emailed it to her boss for a digital signature.  Her boss digitally signed it and emailed it to the CFO.  The CFO does not have Acrobat 9.  When she gets it, she gets the error message "This document enabled extended features in Adobe Reader.  The document has been changed since it was created and use of extended features is no longer available.  Please contact the author for the original version of this document."  How do I correct this?

    Steve,
I wanted to test how cumbersome it would be to have the 2 staff members open with Adobe Reader instead of Creative Suite; however, I have not been able to find any option like "open with" in my outlook email.  Every time I try to open it defaults to my Acrobat 9 Pro to open the document.  Would the 2 staff members have to save the email and then use "open with" in order to by pass Creative Suite?
Also I am not sure if you answered my question last time - Is it possible to just upgrade the Acrobat portion of Creative Suite or do you have to upgrade the entire Creative Suite just to get the newer Acrobat?  I will also be checking the upgrade link you sent.  Thanks.

  • Digital Signatures in Adobe 8 Professional

I have 2 questions regarding digital signatures in Adobe Acrobat Professional
1.) Is it possible to digitally sign a document multiple times without having to resave the document each time you sign?  This would be really helpful in dealing with contracts in adobe where multiple signatures are required.
2.) If you email a pdf with digital signatures is it possible for the recipient to delete these signatures?  Or to not be able to view them?
    Thanks a lot!

Regarding #1, the short answer is no. Every time the file is digitally signed it necessitates it being saved. That's what allow "View Signed Version" and signature roll back to work.
As for # 2, it depends on the version of Acrobat. Versions 6 and 7 allowed anyone to remove a signature as long as it wasn't a certifying signature. In the case of the certifying signature on the signer could remove. Beginning with version 8 you can only clear if you have access to the digital ID that was used to create the signature.

  • Multiple Digital Signatures in Acrobat 8.1

Hello to all,  I am trying to have two people place two (2) digital signatures  (using the method: Advance Menu Item | Sign & Certify | Place Signatures) on a PDF document.
There are no problems placing the first signature, but when the second person adds theirs, the first signature ends up having a yellow exlamation mark over the green check mark with the statement: "The revision of the documnet was covered by this signature has not been altered; however there have been subsequent changes to the doucment.".
I must have both signatures showing "green check marks", otherwise my document can be rejected when I submit it.  I have version 8.1 of Acrobat and need a solution fast as I need to submit this document tomorrow.
Thanks in advance for any help provided.

I believe this behavior was changed in Acrobat 9.

  • Adobe Acrobat Professional & Digital Signatures

OK, I have Acrobat Pro CS3. I can create a "self signed" digital certificate, which will insert my signature onto a .pdf document to "sign" it. But when the recipient opens it, the signature is not digitally certified and the author is UNKNOWN.
I know I need to buy from a third party company a Digital Signature Certificate that works with Adobe Acrobat P:rofessional, but try as I might, using the Help in Acrobat or searching using Google, I cannot find any company that sells a Mac friendly Digital Signature Certificate.
Every site I look at (like Veri-Sign for example) requires Windows and Internet Explorer. Some sites will sell a USB key to make the certificate portable but again these require Windows.
Can anyone help please? What company sells Digital Signing Certificates for Adobe Acrobat on the Mac?

Regarding #1, the short answer is no. Every time the file is digitally signed it necessitates it being saved. That's what allow "View Signed Version" and signature roll back to work.
As for # 2, it depends on the version of Acrobat. Versions 6 and 7 allowed anyone to remove a signature as long as it wasn't a certifying signature. • Problem with digital signatures in Acrobat 8

Is it true that the ability to directly create a digital signature field is available in Acrobat 7 & 9 but not in 8?
I have Acrobat Standard 8.0.0 and want to create blank signature fields before I certify a document, but can't find a way to do this directly. I can add a signature then delete it to create a blank field, but this is a very slow way of doing it.
I have read Forum articles saying choose Tools > Forms > Digital Signature Tool to create a blank field, but I have no Forms item in my Tools menu. Am I missing something, or do I need to upgrade to Acrobat 9 (or downgrade to 7!)?

    Hi Brian,
It's not that version 8 per se cannot add a signature field, it's that you cannot create or edit form fields in the Standard version. If you had Acrobat 8 Professional, or you buy Acrobat 9 Pro, then you would have the capability to add and edit form fields (a signature fields is just a special purpose form field).

  • Digital Signatures (.pfx)

In the past, we have purchased digital ID's from Verisign to digitally sign our pdf forms.  They recently changed their website format and now when you purchase a digital ID, it will read "Persona Not Verified" as the name of the person that signs the document, instead of the user's actual name.  This totally negates the purpose of a digital signature and I do not understand their reasoning, but so be it.  Does anyone know where you can purchase a digital ID from a trusted source in .pfx format?  Thanks for your input.

    Hi,
One thing to realize is that the Certificate Authority (the "CA") is treated as a trusted third party. That is, whoever is validating the signature is trusting that the CA verified the identity of the person to whom they issued the digital ID. If they hadn't vetted your identity then it is incumbent upon them to make sure that whoever receives the signed document realizes that the signers identity has not been properly verified. It was actually a break-down in trust on VeriSign's part for all of the years they issued short lived digital IDs that contained a name having not verified the actual identity of the person requesting the digital ID. They are no doing what they should have been doing for years.
That said, there are many trusted CAs that will issue a digital ID, but what you are going to have a hard time doing is finding one that will issue a digital ID for free that contains your name. As mentioned above you can get a digital ID from Comodo, but as the poster said they had to purchase the ID. Comodo does offer a free digital ID that they call an "e-mail ID" because at the very least they can validate the e-mail address, but since you can create any e-mail address (provided someone else hasn't got that address) with any name associated with it Comodo leaves the name field blank (akin to where VeriSign uses "Persona Not Verified"). You could go back to VeriSign and buy a digital from them where they would add your name, but you have to provide them with proof of identity, but your going to find that with all CAs.
Adobe partners with several CAs and you can get the list from http://helpx.adobe.com/acrobat/kb/certified-document-services.html but by no means is this an all inclusive list of the CAs that are out there. They number in the hundreds, but many of them are country specific.

  • Want insertion of Digital Signature not to require a save

I have an issue that I would appreciate someone's help on. I have been with Adobe Tech Support via their portal. Yet I have not been able to establish whether what I want to accomplish is doable.
What I have is a document that actually consists of several documents, which in aggregate comprises our application for persons wanting to drive for us. For the sake of this scenario please understand that the document is not to be broken up into multiple files. It is created as a single document to facilitate the management of the numerous applicants by in-house staff.
Anyway - this form has multiple digital signatures. The department head insists on this as each section of this document has information to be attested to as original and accurate. However, we find that only the first digital signature is used to certify the document, and any additional serve only in a "confirming" capacity.
So we have this document with multiple digital signatures, the first of which certifies the document and the remaining as "confirmation". And all of these digital signature fields are set as "required" in their properties. The form is developed and presented for testing. So we enter just one of the several digital signatures and attempt to save the file. What we expected to happen was the pop-up of a dialogue to point out that all of the required digital signature fields were not completed. But no such warning arises, and this circumstance "raises an eyebrow" or two within the firm, who expect this edit to appear.
Based on recommendations from Adobe support I go out to the developers site and research scripting. After several hours I come away with a script that will indeed spawn a message when any digital signature is missing. However, another problem arises. After closing out the dialogue box and inserting the first of several missing digital signatures I am immediately required to save the file. The save works and here we have the form with several digital signatures still not signed. This allows the user to forward on the form to us, at which time the file will be reviewed and returned to the user for further completion. And in the event that only one of several missing signatures is entered, and the file again saved and forwarded, this scenario has the potential of being repeated several times.
Is there any way through scripting for the insertion of the digital signature not to spawn a save of the document? Thanks!

Is there any isight as to how this is done?
I am currently opening a file from Teamcenter engineering, however if I try to save the file it complains there is another copy open elsewhere (which isn't true).  I have to export the file first, save it and then check it back in.  It seems to be the only area that behaves like this, as I am able to markup the document add pages, etc and save the document just fine.
If I could remove the save as function and just use "Save" I think that this would help.
    Appreciate any/all replies!
    Regards,
    Sean.

  • Digital Signatures in BIP

The limitations mentioned below come from the BIP Administrator and Developers Guide 10.1.3.4, I thought these were removed in 11g but I see the same limitations in the 11g doc. Can anyone confirm if these limitations still apply for 11g and when will they be removed?
    Limitations
Use of digital signatures with Oracle BI Publisher output documents has the following limitations:
    •     Only a single digital ID can be registered with BI Publisher. Future releases will support multiple digital IDs.
    •     Only reports submitted through BI Publisher's Schedule Report interface can include the digital signature.
    •     The digital signature is enabled at the report level; therefore, multiple templates assigned to the same report share the digital signature properties.

  • How to verify the digital signatures?

Buyer has to send a certified interactive form to vendor, vendor has to digitally sign the form back. We need to verify the signature of the vendor only then start processing the form. How do I achiev this security.
    1) How do I generate buyer certificate and attach to the form.
    2) I have created a signature field in the form, after the vendor signs it how do we check whether its the correct signature?
    Kindly specify the steps.

  • Using Digital Signatures in a PDF File | Acrobat X | Adobe TV

This video details how to use the new Sign & Certify panel for digital signatures, including the new Time Stamp Document tool, in Acrobat X Std. and Pro.
    http://adobe.ly/yDHBdn

I wanted to add a scanned pdf signature to a W-9 form, and I changed the preference in Security as you suggested, but the new icon in the top tool bar is grayed out, as are all the choices within the Sign & Certify drop down. I watched movies, and looked at forums, and no one has this grayed-out issue. I have been trying to figure this out for an hour, and everything I find is a dead end.
