CF Form Textarea
In my CF form, I use <cfinput name="field_name" size="20"
required message="this field is required"> to make a field
required.
Now I have to have a text area for free form entry. How can I
make the textarea required also in CF (use javascript ?) and the
access db only accepts max 255 characters, what do I do if the text
area needs at least 500 chars and how do I store all of that in my
access db ?

If you are using version 7 or higher, you can use
<cftextarea> which has the attributes you seek.

XML Form - Textarea - Blank Space Issue
I'm trying to use a cftextarea inside an XML form and every
time I do it keeps putting a space inside of the text area. I've
tried a few things and found that it's related to the following.
In the _formelements.xsl in the \CFIDE\scripts\xsl directory.

Trouble is, if I take that out, it blows up the whole page.
Is there any way around this or any type of quick fix for it?
It's annoying to have my db updated with a blank space. If not I

On a Mac, Firefox 4 was also dysfunctional and the "enter" key immediately submitted the form instead of adding a line if the cursor was placed inside content to start with, but on Windows it seems impossible to get the cursor inside the textarea content at all.
The "view source" of the form textarea element plus the content that our user entered is pasted below:

The user content begins after the <textarea> element and includes HTML headers, breaks, etc. Other HTML content inside form elements gave similar results. Thanks! -

If your host doesn't provide scripts, ask them which server-side languages you can use (php, asp, asp.net, perl, coldfusion, etc...). This will narrow your search for form-to-email processing scripts.
Also, your form SUBMIT button is not properly coded. It should look something like this.
<input type="submit" name="send" id="send" value="Submit">
RESET buttons aren't used much anymore because they lead to more form submission failures than successes. You don't need it.

Need to add senders email address into the subject header of my PHP form (somehow)
Hello one and all,
I have a PHP form which is working fine and sends our support team an email with the subject header 'Support'.
I have been asked to fix this form to include the senders email address into the Subject header so that the support team can filter them easier and reply quicker.

How to handle weird characters in form fields (like bullet points from Word docs)
hi there
lots of my users copy and paste from MS Word documents into a
text area
my app takes that form.textarea data and inserts it in a
MYSQL db.
when we output that cell from the db, we often find there are
? [question marks] where there once were special characters in the
Word doc text.
it seems that bullet points in word docs are the worst
offenders.
each time i spot a new one i try to find out the chr() number
for it and make a substitiution before the text is stored in the
db, but its a bit hit and miss (relies on me spotting it) and its v
time consuming
ive tried using functions safetext and demoronize - but they
dont seem to do what i need
im sure im not the first person to run into this - any
suggestions anyone?

Paul - when you say "change it to unicode" do you mean the
page or a setting in the db? forgive me if i'm being stupid but
this is all new territory to me. Thank you ever so much for your

Can't find jquery form validator in Behaviors as shown in video demo
I am on Win 8.1 using DW CC and am trying to add a validation script for my forms. According to the Video the New feature in DW CC has dropped the Spry scripts in favor of more standardized Jquery scripts for validation. Sounds great ...if they were there.... The Spry scripts are gone...but I can't find any Jquery replacements. This upgrade from 6 may have been a mistake.

Can I extend the width of auto-complete beyond form field itself?
I have a form field that has a width of about 30. Often, the information entered is longer than 30 characters.
I use auto complete on my forms option.
Is it possible to extend the drop down of auto-complete-saved information beyond the 30 characters of the form-field itself? Sometimes the first 30 characters of more than one previously entered answer are the same.
The only way to know if I selected the right one is to just guess and then go to end and see if I picked the right one.

I have used this extension in the past, but it has been problematic in Firefox 3.6 versions. IIRC it didn't ever work with single line textareas, like in forms. <br />

That's not surprising. DW doesn't know what to do with this
markup.
You could try just removing the <ilayer> tag -

I have a JSP page which loads dynamically depending on what the user enters. This page works fine for items upto 20-30 but as the number of items increases, my JSP page takes a lot of time to go to the next one. Heres what my JSP looks like:

Certain images not showing up in Design View
Hi,
I recently switched from Dreamweaver CS5.5 to CS6 with Creative Cloud but now some of my images aren't showing up in Design View. Everything is fine in Live View.

Unfortunately, Design View is incapable of displaying CSS border-radius, gradients, shadows and other CSS level 3 properties. That's why we have Live View which behaves more like a real browser.
If you can't live with this, disable CSS in DW by going to View > Style Rendering > untick display styles.
Or, use a Design-Time Style Sheet that contains no CSS level 3 properties.

Literal too long when 4000 chars
I get an error that literal too long when trying to insert a record to a clob or varchar2 field when the string is over 4000 chars.
How to resolve this problem. I'd like to be able to treat this insert the same as all other inserts rather than make a special case out of it so no special processing would be needed.
The application reads from an html form textarea and inserts the value of the text area along with the other fields of the form to a database.Hi,
The maximum length of VARCHAR2 data is 4000 bytes.
You can't store more than 4000 bytes in varchar2 column.
CLOB can store upto 4GB of data.
You can check the LOB Datatype sample for details on how to insert data into CLOB.

Check the loadSamples method which shows how to insert data into CLOB using empty_clob() method.

Insert Multiple Records and newest record id
The problem I have is I am using a somewhat normalized
database and I am trying to enter multiple records from a form into
a table called catfit. It also needs to add information to another
table called prodmat and pull the id of the record I just added to
the prodmat table and insert it into the catfit table in one shot.

I have worked with the action.cfm page to no avail what so
ever so I won't even post it. Now the prodmat table is the table
where I need to get the prodid (Autonumber column) for the record
that was just inserted so I can insert that number into the catfit
table under the prodid column (number column). So this what I
hoping to get in the end.
When someone submits this form it will add the data to the
prodmat table and grab the prodid generated from the new record.
Then instert a new record for each of the catid select boxes into
the catfit table. so something like this.
If they select all three categories upon the submit it would
add to the catfit table for each record:
molid = 1
catid = 2
prodid = 16 (for instance this would be the newest record
added to the prodmat table)
molid = 1
catid = 6
prodid = 16
molid = 1
catid = 8
prodid = 16

No. Don't do that. It would produce the same results you were
getting before ie. the values for all three records would be the
same.
Number the CDI fields just like you're doing with form.catID.
So each set of values is grouped by number
form.catId1, form.CDI1
form.catId2, form.CDI2
form.catId3, form.CDI3
Then extract the values inside your loop and use them in your
UPDATE

Though you may not actually need an UPDATE here. Another
option might be to do a DELETE of all existing records for a
product, followed by an INSERT.
