CF8 Standard on Linux 64bit?

Hi all,
I tried to install CF8 64bit on a 64bit Linux machine and it automatically got reverted to a developer version as our license key is for a standard version and not for an enterprise version, ok so far so good. I went back and installed the 32bit version on the machine and entered the code, seems to work fine BUT: I have CF running behind an Apache web server and I configured the Apache connector to be able to access the CF Admin via a regular URL, eg. http://dev.company.com/CFIDE/administrator instead using the port (eg. http://dev.company.com:8500/CFIDE/administrator) on which CF is running. CF told me, that it won't work with an Apache 64bit. I must say I'm little bit confused. Some questions on that:
- Is it correct, I need an enterprise license to run CF8 64bit?
- Can I install and run my standard license somehow on the 64bit machine?
- Does CF9 help me in this case by being 64bit capable in the standard edition?
- Or at least can I install CF9 in a 64bit environment?
Thank you very much for any advice, cheers
Peter

Unfortunately this is wrong.
On Linux x86_64 the IBM JDK is used.

  • Install cf8 standard edition with remote apache?

I am interested in installing cf8 standard edition on a stand
alone server on a windows (win2003 standard 64 bit) box. An Apache
web server (centOS 5) and a mysql will be another two separate
    servers.
So, I am wondering if this infrastructure is OK? I never
tried them like this. I'd appreciate if anybody may share practical
    experience. Thanks.

Have you had any luck with this? I'm pursuing a similar
configuration. It should be pretty straight forward since this is a
pretty normal set up, but the doc is limited.
It doesn't help that the connector for Apache seems to be
buried in the Linux install, which doesn't help when CF server was
installed on a Windows box. Am I missing something?

For 99% percent of the time we have a pretty light load with 1500 hits a day mostly info pieces and some light e-commerce to register for classes. On registration days we get annihilated jumping from 100 connections to 800 right when we open.
We have used jmeter to try and gauge exactly what our one server is capable of handling. And I guess we still really do not know. I have noticed that if we sustain anything over 700 apache connects JRUN will throw errors. This seems to be by a design limit and happens automatically regardless of the pages involved. We have used seefusion to make sure none of our pages are hanging the server. Nothing is excessive though very little bit helps.
Can anyone suggest some general guidelines as to how many apache connections we should allow and what cf8 standard should be able to handle. The registration process is db intensive requiring many calls per page to maintain session etc. We have to do this to maintain compatibility with our internal system.
I believe we are hoping to be able to accomodate 1,000 users at peak. Is this something we can do with cf 8 standard on a single box?

Is it possible to accommodate 1,000 users with ColdFusion 8 standard?  Yes it is possible, if the application is developed with this load in mind.  Will CF8 magically accommodate 1,000 users no matter what, NO!  No application server could.
Unfortunately there is no general answer, because EVERY application and server is different.  Why do yo have to have so many database calls?  What can you do to unload that to the database with procedures and packages?  What can you do to cache content?  What can be streamlined?  What can be trimmed?  What can be reused?
None of those answers are magic or automatic!  The system and application have to be looked at systematically and anaylized and tuned.

It looks like you will have to uninstall "libaio1", but I don't know for sure and don't have Ubuntu 10.4 available right now to play with.
Sorry but the instructions are for Ubuntu 10.10, not 10.4, which is different.

    Hello,
Yes you do need to set kernal parameters in order to meet pre-requisites, otherwise your installation will fail and oracle might not work or unstable.

  • OBIEE 11g upgrade wizard & installation on linux 64bit

    Hi,
Is it that on Linux 64 bit machine, i should install OBIEE 11g in "Software Only" mode, only then upgrade wizard works correctly, if i need to do "Software Only" should i be installing weblogic server independently? or at high level what are steps to be followed.
    Thanks,
    Sree

    Hi Sree,
What you are mentioning here is relevant for Windows 64 bits environment where you have to install the software only after installing web logic standalone.
The installer for Linux 64bit will install all the components for you except of course the RCU that you need to downlaod and install first.
Please refer to this link for more details about the installation
    http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E14571_01/bi.1111/e10539/c4_installing.htm#CIHDJGIH
NB: Devlopement tools (Admin tool or catalog manager..) don't exisit for Linux, so you have to use windows for development

  • What do I need for Oracle Http Server with mod_plsql on Linux 64bit?

I am trying to get the OHS onto a linux box but I am not quite sure I am installing the correct thing!!
I currently have a windows box running the 10g Application server but everything seems to have changed since then and there seems to be several different things to do with the Fusion Middleware and stuff. I've tried to find an overview in plain english of what all these things are but all I can find are lots of marketing buzzwords!
All in need to to be able to run the OHS with the mod_plsql so I can run my apex application. I'd be greatfull if someone could point me in the right direction for what I need to install!
The box it is going on is a CentOS Linux 64bit machine. I've download and installed Oracle WebLogic Server 11g Rel 1 (10.3.3) using the generic installer for the 64 bit java but there seems to be no http server despite it saying there is! Most likely I am doing something wrong but the installer finishes successfully but nothing is running on port 7001.
Do I actually need the WebTier instead? Is that the best solution for running the OHS with mod_plsql? Do I need the WebLogic install as well? Unfortunately I am fairly new to Linux as well which isn't helping!!
    thanks for any help
    Robert

    Well, you have two options:
    - Use the OHS from the OFM WebTier Utilities distro. (To use 11.1.1.3 version, you need both the 11.1.1.2 and 11.1.1.3 distros)
    - Use the OHS from the DB Companion Disk distro.
WebLogic Server is a Java EE application with an HTTP server included, but not intended to be used as a replacement of OHS/Apache. It doesn't support mod's...

All 10g oracle is under extended support, the XE 10g version was yanked from the download pages at about the time 10g went Extended.
Probably won't be able to get a download from anywhere under oracle.com but there might be a few sites that still have it hosted. Try google.

  • Official release of data modeler is very slow on Linux (64bit)

I was testing the beta version on Linux (64bit) and it was fast (reverse engineering from database for example), but I found out the official release of the data modeler is slower compared to the Beta version. The same JDK version, the same Linux 64bit distro. Is there a memory leak with the official release ? Has any one else observed such sluggish performance with the official release of the data modeler ?
    thanx

By itself the buffer hit cache ratio is a meaningless statistic. It can in fact be a misleading indicator since it does not actually reflect application performance.
Tune the query. Make sure it is running as well as it can.
Then look at overall machine resources: average and peak cpu, memory, and IO loads.
If spare resources exist then considering more resources to the more important databases on the system.
Document any performance changes that occur after each change. It is possible for the database performance problem being latching, that is, shared pool access and you might need space in the shared pool more than the buffers. It depends on the application and user load.
Why are you using a 2K database block size? I would think 4k or 8k would probably be better even for a true OLTP with almost all access by index.
To get help on the query you will need to post it, the explain plan, and information on available indexes, table row counts, and perhaps column statistics for the indexed columns and filter conditions.

  • Database Studio Version for Linux 64bit

    Hi,
There is a way to get a Database Studio for Linux 64bit systems?

    Clóvis

    Hi Clóvis,
sorry - currently we cannot provide a Database Studio which is running with a 64bit JVM. The provided package is an approach to run Database Studio on a 64bit server. But it definitely requires the 32bit JVM. The native 64bit Database Studio will be released later on. Unfortunately today I cannot yet tell you a fixed date for this.
    Anyway, thanks for your inquiry.
