Cfinput validateAt onSubmit not working

A bit about the environment:  Laptop running win7(x64), Apache2.2, and CF9.0.1 Developer.
I created a simple login form, just asking for an email address and password, to test out form validation, and it worked flawlessly, so i went on to a much larger project of this:  http://pastie.org/2184920
Coldfusion generates the following javascript when the page is loaded:  http://pastie.org/2184962
Unfortunately, none of the fields get validated with validateAt="onSubmit".  if i set it to "onServer", it all works fine and returns the errors on the page.
Any ideas what might be causing this?
P.S.  Yes, the code creates quite the ugly page.  I removed all HTML formatting for testing purposes.

The first thing one should always do if one encounters "unexpected behaviour" with JavaScript is to check whether there were any JavaScript errors.  This is because JS processing will stop if an error is encountered, which is usually the source of this mismatch in expectations.
That's the first thing I'd do if I was you.
And whilst the regexes in your CFINPUT tags are being run by the JS regex engine, the syntax rules still apply, so you're probably gonna want to refer to these docs when you come to fix your problems:

  • Validateat onblur not working

    Hello,
    I'm using Coldfusion MX 6.1 and have a simple form with only
    one textfield and submit button. For some reason
    validateat="onblur" is not working. It works as if I had onsubmit
    which is by default. below is my code and I will aprreciate any
    input as why it is not working.
    Thanks,

    Your version of ColdFusion is too old. validateAt="onBlur"
    and similar
    are a MX 7 enhancement. From the MX 7 documentation:
    History
    ColdFusion MX 7:
    Added support for onBlur and onServer validation, including
    the
    validateAt attribute.

  • Cfinput validation is not working

    I have a CF8 cfform which contains several cfinput tags set to required.  If I submit the form without fillign otu those fields, I do get the popup message displaying the error message(s) but when I click ok on that popup, it still submits the form.
    THis is a large form which I have split into 7 sections with only one visible at a time - kind of like a custom tabbed interface.
    WHen the page loads, I am using jquery to hide all but the first tab.  The last tab which contains the submit button is hidden on page load.
    It seems like if I keep the submit button visible on page load, the cfform validation works, but I want the submit button to only be displayed on the last step of this tabbed form.
    How can I get the cfform validation to work when the submit button is hidden on page load?

    Given you initially hide the submit button, how then is the form submitted?

  • Disabled in cfinput not working properily

    I am trying to disable and enable an input field using a
    variable (#EditBoolean#). The cfinput is always disabled even when
    the value of the variable is "false" or "no" (I tried them both).
    Then, I tried it with out variable hard coding disabled ="false" or
    "no". the input was still disabled. Any idea what I have been doing
    wrong? Below is the code I used without the variable.
    thank in advance

    disabled only has one setting and that is disabled="disabled"

  • Upload of exif encoded JPEG's not working in FF

    .Hey,
    Just starin this thread to get everyones input/comments/suggestions on handling this interesting issue.
    I have a script that uploads jpeg's. When I do the upload from the hard drive all works well in IE, FF, and Safari. When done directly from a camera it works in IE, but not in FF or Safari. I get an error saying the file is not an image. The camera (canon) saves images in JPG format and the script allows uploads of jpg, jpeg, png, gif.
    Upon doing some research i found out that the camera 'encodes' the JPEG by way of EXIF to add image data to the JPEG, but its still a JPEG.
    At first i thought it was the script but since it works in IE, i was told that it cant be... I have a discussion going on about it in another forum provided by the company I purchased this upload script from. You can see it at http://www.webassist.com/forums/showthread.php?t=4783. I'm staring to think its a browser issue and wonder how to 'accomadate' for such... I am using cs4 with vista 64 and the latest version of all browsers.  there has to be a way to accomadate for the inconsistency across browsers without changing the file extension or putting the images on the harddrive first... I want convenience for my users.... any ideas?

    I am having a very similar issue, but the reverse - IE9 doesn't work, but IE8, FF, and Chrome all work fine.  The error:
    SCRIPT5007: Unable to get value of the property 'split': object is null or undefined  -->  Line 43: _10d=_10c.split("/");
    The field has both name and id, as does the CFFORM. (There is only one CFFORM on the page.)  I am event calling the CFAJAXIMPORT at the beginning of the file.
    <cfajaximport  tags="cfform,cftextarea,CFINPUT-DATEFIELD">
    <cfform name="registration" id="registration" method="post" action="#cgi.SCRIPT_NAME#">
    Funny thing though, on the exact same code, but in another page, it works fine in all browsers.
    <cfinput  type="datefield" name="udf_43" id="udf_43" class="editbody" style="width:255px;" validate="date" validateat="ONSUBMIT"
    required="yes" message="Required Field: Please enter the information for - BIRTHDATE.">
    So, what is the fix?

  • Cftextarea maxlength="1000" not working...

    Any idea why this might not be working?
    <cftextarea name="additionalremarks" cols="90"
    class="classmainfont" maxlength="1000"></cftextarea>
    It doesn't restrict the characters to 1000 char....

    add these attributes
    validate="maxlength" validateat="onSubmit"

         Using client side JavaScript is an efficient way to validate the user input
         in web applications. When there are many fields in the form, the JavaScript
         validation becomes too complex.
         </P>
         <P>
    The JavaScript class presented here makes the form validations many times easier.
         </P>
         <P>
         The idea is to create a set of "validation descriptors" associated with each element
         in a form. The "validation descriptor" is nothing but a string specifying the type of
         validation to be performed.
         </P>
         <P>
         Each field in the form can have 0, 1, or more validations. For example, the input should
         not be empty, should be less than 25 chars, should be alpha-numeric, etc
         </P>
         You can associate a set of validation descriptors for each input field in the form.
         <a name="3"></a>
         <h3>Using The Script</h3>
         1.Include gen_validatorv2.js in your html file just before closing the HEAD tag<br><br>
         <CODE>
         <script language="JavaScript" src="gen_validatorv2.js" type="text/javascript"></script><BR>
         </head><BR>
         </CODE><br>
         2. Just after defining your form,
         Create a form validator object passing the name of the form<br><br>
         <CODE class='htm'>
          <FORM name='myform' action=""><BR>
          <!----Your input fields go here --><BR>
          </FORM><BR>
         </CODE><CODE>
          <SCRIPT language="JavaScript"><BR>
          var frmvalidator  = new Validator("myform");<BR>
         </CODE>
         <br>
         <br>
         3. Now add the validations required<br><br>
         <CODE>
              frmvalidator.addValidation("FirstName","alpha");
         </CODE><br><br>
         the first argument is the name of the field and the second argument is the
         validation descriptor, which specifies the type of validation to be performed.<br>
         You can add any number of validations.The list of validation descriptors are provided
         at the end of the documentation.<br>
         The optional third argument is the error string to be displayed if the validation
         fails.<br>
         <br>
         <CODE>
              frmvalidator.addValidation("FirstName","alpha");<br>
              frmvalidator.addValidation("FirstName","req","Please enter your First Name");<br>
              frmvalidator.addValidation("FirstName","maxlen=20",<br>
                   "Max length for FirstName is 20");          <br>
         </CODE>     <br>
         <br>
         4. Similarly, add validations for the fields where validation is required.<br>
         That's it! You are ready to go.
         <A name="3"></A>
         <h3>Example</h3>
         The example below will make the idea clearer<br>

         <h3>Some Additional Notes</h3>
         <LI type="disc">The form validators should be created only after defining the HTML form
         (only after the </form> tag. )<br>
         <LI type="disc">Your form should have a distinguished name.
         If there are more than one form
         in the same page, you can add validators for each of them. The names of the
         forms and the validators should not clash.
         <LI type="disc">You can't use the javascript onsubmit event of the form if it you are
         using this validator script. It is because the validator script automatically overrides the
         onsubmit event. If you want to add a custom validation, see the section below
         </LI>
         <A name="5"></A>
         <h3>Adding Custom Validation</h3>
         If you want to add a custom validation, which is not provided by the validation descriptors,
         you can do so. Here are the steps:
         <LI type="disc">Create a javascript function which returns true or false depending on the validation.<br>
         <CODE>
              function DoCustomValidation()<BR>
              {<BR>
                var frm = document.forms["myform"];<BR>
                if(frm.pwd1.value != frm.pwd2.value)<BR>
                {<BR>
                  alert('The Password and verified password does not match!');<BR>
                  return false;<BR>
                }<BR>
                else<BR>
                {<BR>
                  return true;<BR>
                }<BR>
              }<BR>
         </CODE><br>
         <LI type="disc">Associate the validation function with the validator object.<br>
         <CODE>
         frmvalidator.setAddnlValidationFunction("DoCustomValidation");
         </CODE><br>
         </LI>
         <P>
         The custom validation function will be called automatically after other validations.
         </P>
         <P>
         If you want to do more than one custom validations, you can do all those
         validations in the same function.
         </P>
         <CODE>
              function DoCustomValidation()<BR>
              {<BR>
                var frm = document.forms["myform"];<BR>
                if(false == DoMyValidationOne())<BR>
                {<BR>
                  alert('Validation One Failed!');<BR>
                  return false;<BR>
                }<BR>
                else<BR>
                if(false == DoMyValidationTwo())<BR>
                {<BR>
                  alert('Validation Two Failed!');<BR>
                  return false;<BR>
                }<BR>
                else<BR>
                {<BR>
                  return true;<BR>
                }<BR>
              }<BR>
         </CODE><br>
         where DoMyValidationOne() and DoMyValidationTwo() are custom functions for
         validation.
         <A name="6"></A>
         <h3>Clear All Validations</h3>
         In some dynamically programmed pages, it may be required to change the validations in the
         form at run time. For such cases, a function is included which clears all validations in the
         validator object.<br><br>
         <CODE>
         frmvalidator.clearAllValidations();
         </CODE><br>
         <br>
         this function call clears all validations you set.<br>
         You will not need this method in most cases.
         <a name="7"></a>

    The code is not working because you made a mistake somewhere, duh! So figure out what (hint: firefox javascript console, it's your friend) and fix it!
    And next time when you post code: use the [ code ]  tags to pretty format your code, as it is now it's unreadable.

  • Javascript focus() is not working anymore in firefox 22, thank You

    With this sample code, focus() is not working
    <pre><nowiki>Name <input name=cName id=cName size=50 onblur=chkName(); />
    <br>
    Last Name: <input name=cLastName id=cLastName size=50 onblur=chkLastName(); />
    <br>
    Another Field:
    <input name=cAnother id=cAnother size=15 />
    <script>
    function chkName() {
    var cName = document.getElementById('cName').value;
    if ( cName == '' ) {
    alert("ERROR");
    document.getElementById('cName').focus();
    function chkLastName() {
    var cLastName = document.getElementById('cLastName').value;
    if ( cLastName == '' ) {
    alert("ERROR");
    document.getElementById('cLastName').focus();
    </script></nowiki></pre>

    Yes of course.
    The function example I posted would be called by the onblur event and not by a submit. as has been stated previously, I also remember that it used to work. Perhaps I am wrong.
    Since that is not working, I am suggesting that the OP will be forced to use the onsubmit and validate at that time to solve the problem as was also previously suggested. Using the onSubmit and returning false on invalid does work for me.
    Since my last post I did determine that I can pass the id to a window.settimeout and have it work correctly, but this still does not stop the form from being posted in FireFox. Whereas an onblur navigation cancellation does prevent posting in Chrome and IE.
    this is important to note because if you are depending on your javascript to validate your data you can get betray because not all the browsers treat it the same way. This is by no means a FireFox only problem. they all have their quirks.
    I just wish there was a standard that we could depend on.

    the database is not updating...its updating when i am giving values directly to update query..why?help me plzzz..With all that Java code in your JSPs, it doesn't look like you are in the final touch of learning JSP, but just at the beginning. Try to move all that java code into Servlets and JavaBeans. The JSP should be all about display, and nothing else.
    What is your problem? I don't know. All that unformatted code is un-readable. On top of being scriptlet code which is hard enough to read.
    You should search the logs to see if there is an error message hidden in there. That is one of the major problems with putting regular Java code in JSPs, the error messages get hidden, and become near impossible to translate.

    Rather than reinventing the wheel, I tend to use SpryValidation widgets to validate the form using JavaScript. However, to ensure that no validation is untouched, you also need to validate the inputs using serverside script.
    The example that you have shown is valiadtion in JavaScript. This means that anyone with JS turned off will bypass your validation.

    Lorna, be careful. This could cause your comments
    to stop working. Blog comments are
    sensitive..................
    .......... Lorna says ................................................
    Allyson, your precaution comes on the heels of me realizing that if I put a song on a blog summary page, then I will have to edit the .js file every time I add a blog entry.
    Whereas MassReplaceIt could solve the problem there, the added issue of problems with comments is enough to make me stay away, so that is what I will do: No music within 250' of the blog guy.

  • Regex not working

    Can anyone tell me why my regex is not working on my cfinput textbox please. I only want to allow a-z as available charactors to enter and the below code fails.
    <cfinput type="text"
            id="surname"
            name="surname"
            class="txt"
            title="Surname"
            value="#presentsurname#"
            validate="regex"
            pattern="[a-z]"
            message="Please enter a valid Surname."
            maxlength="60" />
    If i type in $$$ then the regex is flagged up and I get the error message displayed.
    Although if I type in a$$, I get no error message.
    Thanks,
    G

    Thanks for the quick replies guys, your really helpful and both regex examples you have given both work.
    To cut a long story short I was give the following regex to use against my surname textbox, and I need to follow 'their' standards so I must use this pattern.
    ([A-Z'\-]*)|([A-Z'\-][A-Z '\-]*[A-Z'\-])
    And this should only allow A-Z (in capitals) and any of the other special charactors that are mentioned in the regex....  Although this pattern is allowing me to enter A$$ and I do not understand why it is allowing the $ sign to be an enterable charactor when the dollar sign is not listed in the regex.

  • Flash Animated label cloud not working

    Hai, i added this blogger cloud to ma blog
    Blogger Tutorial that works through flash and works fine in my homepage but later on when the label is clicked the animated flash cloud does not work, what would be the reason, please someone help me.

    onClick="document.frm1.newspaper.disabled=false"
    It looks like you are using javascript. Flash forms use actionscript. It is a totally different beast.
    UPDATE:
    Never mind.  My previous suggestion will not work because the radio fields have the same name.  I am sure there are better ways.
    But you could call a function onClick. One that changes the state of the select lists..
        <cfformitem type="script">
            function setListState() {
                newspaper.enabled = (lead.selectedData == 1);
                JCenter.enabled = (lead.selectedData == 2);
        </cfformitem>
       <cfinput type="radio" name="lead" label="Newspaper" value="1" onClick="setListState()">
       <cfinput type="radio" name="lead" label="Job Center"  value="2"  onClick="setListState()">
