Challenge: Grab N rows AFTER performing sort

I am not an SOA developer, but am working with a team of people who use the tool to develop software for us. I have stated a business requirement which the developers tell me SOA cannot do. I am certain they are wrong, but not being versed in SOA, I'm unable to debate the point without turning to experts for help.
All I want to do is select N+ rows from my table after it has been sorted on the "importance" column, i.e., "Give me the top 100 rows ordered by importance". I am also filtering on a "status" column, taking only those rows that have statue='A'.
To code this in raw SQL, I would simply say:
SELECT *
FROM (
SELECT <my fields>
FROM <my table>
WHERE
STATUS = 'A'
ORDER BY importance ASC
) where rownum <=100
The way they have solved this issue in SOA is generating the following (again in native SQL):
SELECT <my fields>
FROM <my table>
WHERE
STATUS = 'A'
AND ROWNUM <=100
ORDER BY importance ASC
These two are not equivalent, and the second query does not satisfy the goal. The developers are telling me that it is impossible to satisfy my query using SOA.
The actual SQL that got generated by SOA is:
     SELECT <my fields>
FROM <my table>
WHERE
STATUS = :1
AND ROWNUM <= :2
ORDER BY importance ASC
FOR UPDATE NOWAIT
Is there some way to get SOA to generate THIS instead? :
SELECT <my fields>
FROM (
     SELECT <my fields>
FROM <my table>
WHERE
STATUS = :1
ORDER BY importance ASC
WHERE ROWNUM <= :2
FOR UPDATE NOWAIT

The DB Adapter is able to call PLSQL API's.
I have copied and pasted some code we used from one of recent patches:
- Create a type var for the results of your query
CREATE OR REPLACE TYPE ICSOA_ARAUTOINV_DISTRIB_TYP AS OBJECT(
FIELD1 VARCHAR2(30),
FIELD2 VARCHAR2(30)
- Create a table of this type
CREATE OR REPLACE TYPE ICSOA_ARAUTOINV_DISTRIB_TBL AS TABLE OF ICSOA_ARAUTOINV_DISTRIB_TYP;
- Create your PLSQL using the params you need as simple types something like: (In a package)
function CreateAction(
     p_param1 in number,
     p_parm2 in VARCHAR2,
     p_result out ICSOA_ARAUTOINV_DISTRIB_TBL,
     p_err_message out varchar2
) return number;
- your fuction devlaration section needs a cursor something like
cursor c_lines_rsp(p_1 in number, p_2 in varchar2) is
select ICSOA_ARAUTOINV_DISTRIB_TYP(123,'rrr') from dual
where p_1=1 and p_2='abc';
- in your plsql have it return 0 on success and in the exception handler get it to put the error message in p_err_message:
begin
--use cursor to get data
OPEN c_lines_rsp(p_param1,p_param2);
FETCH c_lines_rsp BULK COLLECT INTO p_result;
CLOSE c_lines_rsp;
return 0;
EXCEPTION
WHEN OTHERS THEN
x_err_message := 'Unknown Error ' || sqlerrm || ' ' || DBMS_UTILITY.FORMAT_ERROR_BACKTRACE;
return 99;
end;
If you point the DB adapater at this it will create all the nessecary xml's and wsdls. It should be easy to call this from a BPEL process.
The DB Adapter will create the object var and table but prefer creating my own as it fits in better with the patching process.
From experence I have learned to always return the error message to BPEL it makes debugging a lot easier.
oh and you shouldn't use and commit or rollback statements in your PLSQL if you are using XA db connections. (SOA will preform a commit for you)

  • Showing selected row after sorting

    I have big JTable with lots of columns. Selection of row is highlighted
    using some background color. Sorting is also provided on TableHeader.
    After selecting some row, when user does the sorting, this selected row
    goes outof visible view of table.
    My requirement is to show the same selected row again after doing sorting. I was thinking of calling method like setSelectedRow(), but
    unfortunately there is nothing like this method.
    I was also thinking of using AccessibleJTable, but couldnt go
    anywhere.
    Is there any way to do this?
    Thanks in advance.

  • Adding row after subtotal in ALV

    Hi Guys,
    can we add one row after the subtotal in ALV.

    Hi
    If you use GROUPLEVEL_CHANGE you have to creare a form like this:
    FORM GROUPLEVEL_CHANGE
                   USING P_LINEINFO TYPE SLIS_LINEINFO
                         LS_GROUPS   TYPE KKBLO_GROUPLEVELS.
    ENDFORM.                    "GROUPLEVEL_CHANGE
    In the P_LINEINFO you have details of row and in the LS_GROUPS details of level of sorting.
    For example I used it to re-write subtotal:
    FORM GROUPLEVEL_CHANGE USING P_LINEINFO TYPE SLIS_LINEINFO
                                LS_GROUPS   TYPE KKBLO_GROUPLEVELS.

  • Add a row after Total row in ALV report

    Hi Experts,
    I have a report is displayed by  ALV format(not use function module to display it but use Class cl_gui_custom_container),I want to add a row after the total row. for example,
    Customer   amount1    amount2    amount3
    10000         1,234        1,000         2,000
    10001         4,000        2,000         1,000
    10002         1,300        1,000         3,000
    11000         1,200        4,000         3,000
         Total:     7,734        8,000         9,000
    Ratio%        31.27       32.34          36.39
    the row of 'Total' is calculated by fieldcat-do_sum = 'X' But after the Total row we need a Ratio row to display the ratio. Yes we can calculate the total amout and ratio and then append it into the output itab, but we don't like this solution.We want to keep the total function in the ALV report.Any experts can poit me a direction. Thanks in advance.

    Djoe,
    First you need to handle the user command,in order to capture the button action. For this you need to implment a class, i  am attaching sample codes here
    In top include write the following code

  • [BUG?] af:table table empty after descending sort and remove

    Hi,
    I think i found a bug.
    I have an af:table binded to an arraylist in a backingbean. This List consist of an object that represents two strings (value 1 and 2).
    Now when the table is loaded and I sort descending on one of the columns. After sorting i'll try to remove a row. The correct row is published to the bean with an af:setPropertyListener and removed from the arraylist. But when the table is rendered again there are no values in the table. But the arraylist still has all remaining values which will be shown after a sort again.
    Fun fact: it only happens when sorting descending.
    Anyone got an idea?

    Hi Harry (and others),
    I have seen similar behavior. It seems like the client side rendering for some reason has a hard time processing the collection model wrapping the ArrayList in this particular case. The table renders empty. After sorting in ascending order, the rows are all back (visible) again.
    Is anyone aware of issues with the rich table based directly on ArrayList (in combination with a changing set of values and/or sorting)? (seems like a corner case but is still not uncommon). Is there any indication that wrapping the ArrayList in a CollectionModel ourselves might be required?
    Harry: do you know whether this issue is introduced with PS3 (11.1.1.4) or already existed in previous releases?
    kind regards,
    Lucas

    Oracle SOA 11g - BPEL
    I am currently performing 3 separate transformations in a bpel process.
    In the first transformation I extract header level information (only 1 record line) and write this to a csv file together with HEADERS.
    In the second transformation I extract Detail level information (1 or more record lines) and APPEND this to the same csv file mentioned above together with HEADERS.
    In the third transformation I extract Footer level information (only 1 record line) and APPEND this to the same csv file mentioned above together with HEADERS.

    This is straight forward to perform in Excel once the file is opened, but my requirement is to have the file opened in the format displayed above without Human intervention.
    Is it possible to accomplish this?
    Any advise/guidance will be highly appreciated.
    Thanking you in advance

    Hi Vlad
    Sorry for this late response, I will attempt what you have suggested.
    Its just that the project that this query is related to was put on the back burner...
    I will provide feedback regarding the outcome soon...

  • Inserted rows are not sorted in ascending order

    Hi,
    in my code when i click on a button (UpdateSchedule) certain rows are displayed in the result table. My problem is the displayed data is not in ascending order I know by keeping sort enable on a particular field we can sort the data as req. But the first time the result which is displayed is not an ascending order , i want to tackle this issue.
    As whatever rows are displayed are not yet committed in database so modifying the query using order by clause also wont solve the issue . This data gets committed on a click of another button(ok).Can this be tackle programmatically ?
    I hope i have given proper elaboration of the issue.
    Regards,
    Anant.

    Reading this from Javadoc and understanding your requirement makes me feel that achieving it would not be easy, or may not be possible at all unless FWK provides some override to these rules.
    Restrictions & limitations:
    Sorting is performed by requerying the database.
    May not work well with view objects (VOs) that contain custom 'expert-mode' SQL. Basically the VO.setOrderByClause() is invoked on the VO using the column name associated with this web bean. An alternative for 'expert-mode' SQL may involve overriding the view object setOrderByClause() and performing custom logic. Note: The orderByParameter will be the column name plus either " desc" or " asc".
    Will not work with view objects that contain the view attribute expression "See the SQL...". To sort on these view attributes, modify the VO XML directly and change the view atttribute expression to the SQL column name.
    Sorting is not allowed for tables that allow inserts.
    Sorting is not supported for tables containing updateable columns (unless the updateable columns are mapped to transient VO columns.) No exception is thrown if the table contains updateable columns, since there may be a rare case when it makes sense, for example a table where the contents fit on one page.
    Modified transient columns will be reset. This is normal and expected behavior.
    Sorting is not supported on the 'Select' column - this is the first column of a table when it contains a checkbox or radio button.
    The table bean will invoke the following two methods on the view object to perform sorting. Debugging can be performed by setting a break on these methods on the VO (or a superclass of the VO.)
    viewObject.setOrderByClause(orderByClause);
    viewObject.executeQuery();
    Thanks

    After performing a clean install on a stock apple 1TB fusion Hard Drive it appears as things got reversed and showing my startup as not using the SSD portion.  The SSD portion of the fusion drive used to be on top in disk utility, now its on the bottom.  It also appears that I have to many partitions.  Im thinking i need to reformat my Hard Drive again.  I can't seem to find any answers.

    Hi,
    According to your descriptioin, I don't think this is system problem, it should be Intel driver problem. It would be contact Intel to confirm this issue whether this is their driver problem.

  • Problem after Performing Leaving action related to OM

    <b>Scenario:</b>
    Hi this is the first time i am working in a an SAP HR environment where all most all components like OM,PA,Payroll,Time,PD etc is implemented in <b>4.6 Version.</b>
    I had seen in the production server that after performing the Leaving action of the employee his/her Postion will change to 999999(Default postion) when we view InfoType  0001 0r 0000.
    But in case of 1 employee it did not change to 999999 after leaving action was performed.It still shows the Position what he held when he was Active.
    <b>Qn 1</b>.In the above case which is right?
    <b>Qn.2</b> what should ideally happen in Standard SAP system in such case.
    <b>Q3.</b> Can we change that postion to 99999 (default) of an employee whose status in Withdrawn?
    <b>Qn.4</b>. Anyoption other than  rehiring and terminating him to sove this?(is this option itself is right practise?)
    <b>TIP: I dont know if the end user properly followed the steps in doing the Leaving Action</b>

    Hi Abhilash,
    If you are getting the default position then the Integration plogi - preli is set to 99999999. and you should get it for all the termination action. Check with the user if she had run the leaver action as per your infogroup (in case her user profile is not set up)
    Ideally thats the way it is set up as we dont need a position for a Terminated employee, and that position can be filled up by someone else.
    You can change it to 99999999 if all other positions are default as per your termination action.

  • Document not auto cleared after performing FF67

    Hi all,
    firstly i would like to acknowledge that i'm using version 4.7.
    after performing FF67, bank recon document generated in main bank & clearing bank GL accounts. But it is not auto clear in the clearing bank GL account. the treatment is as post GL account & manual clear.
    after checking:-
    1. trans type ABC using int. algorithm 15 - use assignment field to clear.
    2. posting type in posting rule is 4 - clear debit GL account
    in FF67 screen variant, assignment field entered the same as assignment value in clearing bank account. by right, the documents will clear off automatically.
    anyone can assist what else that i miss out?
    thanks in advance.

    hi..
    we can perform manual clearing or F.13, but the pupose of having such posting rule and posting type is to minimize steps of clearing.
    by right, once ff67 posted, the clearing bank gl account will get cleared.

  • Insert  Blank row  After every Row  in alv report

    How to insert blank  row After every row  in Alv report

    what do you mean by a 'blank row'? ALV displays tabular data with 'any' number of columns. Now if you actually want a blank row (no columns at all, just a row), then that is just not possible. If I'm not mistaken, this question was posted before, so try to do a search on SCN. See what is says.

  • How to display a row after a subtotal field in ALV Grid

    Hi All,
    My requirement is to print a extra row with values and constant text after printing subtotal values in ALV Grid.
    e.g.      TOTAL      12.23       ---> Subtotal field
                 Tax            5.2         ---> extra row after subtotal field.
    Please help me....
    Thanks in advance.
    Regards
    Ajay

    Hi
    You can try using INSERT <WA> OR INSERT INITIAL LINE .
    fill the wa with tax value.
    INSERT  <wa> into table < internal table >
    A row will be inserted into internal table with the values.
    Try this  and let me know.
    Thanks

  • Issue on Cisco Unity Connection after performing 'utils ntp restart'

    Hello everybody.
    There's a client with Cisco Unity Connection 8.5.1.10000-206. After doing a 'utils ntp restart', the following message showed up:
    Communication is not functioning correctly between the servers in the Cisco Unity Connection cluster. To review server status for the cluster, go to the Tools > Cluster Management page of Cisco Unity Connection Serviceability.
    The client states that there was no service for 5 minutes and wants to know if performing this task shoud be disruptive or not and if there is any official document from Cisco stating this.
    See SrvConnUnity_1.jpg sent by the client after performing the ntp restart.
    Right now the service is normal (see SrvConnUnity_2.jpg attached). The client also sent a 'utils ntp
    status':
    admin:utils ntp status
    ntpd (pid 10899) is running...

    admin:
    Could anybody help me with this? What steps should I take? Many thanks in advance.
    Best,
    Patricio

    Hello Patricio,
    On the command line guide you won't see any downtime requirements for the Unity Connection server:
    Command Line Interface Reference Guide for Cisco Unified Communications Solutions Release 8.5(1)
    http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/voice_ip_comm/cucm/cli_ref/8_5_1/cli_ref_851.html
    Utils ntp restart
    This command restarts the NTP service.
    Command syntax
    utils ntp restart
    Parameters
    None
    Requirements
    Command privilege level: 0
    Allowed during upgrade: Yes
    Also on the caveats i do not see any particular mention for this: (Caveats could be found applicable to CUC)
    Release Notes for Cisco Unified Communications Manager Release 8.5(1)
    http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/voice_ip_comm/cucm/rel_notes/8_5_1/cucm-rel_notes-851.html
    Breaking up the output of the "utils ntp status"  there are are two considerations:
    admin:utils ntp status
    ntpd (pid 10899) is running...
         remote           refid      st t when poll reach   delay   offset  jitter
    ==============================================================================
    *127.127.1.0     LOCAL(0)        10 l   16   64  377    0.000    0.000   0.002
    First, you are using the ip address 127.127.1.0 which is the referenced used for the local system clock, the asterisc means is the preferred option as there is no other IP available. This is not a good practice and not recommended.
    Secondly the stratum is unreliable, meaning too high to reach or too low to be accepted by Unity Connection.
    If you would happen to run 'utils diagnose test' you would have probably seen an output as the following example below:
    admin:utils diagnose test
    Log file: platform/log/diag1.log
    Starting diagnostic test(s)
    ===========================
    test - disk_space          : Passed (available: 25680 MB, used: 7849 MB)
    skip - disk_files          : This module must be run directly and off hours
    test - service_manager     : Passed
    test - tomcat              : Passed
    test - tomcat_deadlocks    : Passed
    test - tomcat_keystore     : Passed
    test - tomcat_connectors   : Passed
    test - tomcat_threads      : Passed
    test - tomcat_memory       : Passed
    test - tomcat_sessions     : Passed
    test - validate_network    : Reverse DNS lookup missmatch
    test - raid                : Passed
    test - system_info         : Passed (Collected system information in diagnostic log)
    test - ntp_reachability    : Passed
    test - ntp_clock_drift     : Passed
    test - ntp_stratum         : Failed
    The reference NTP server is a stratum 11 clock.
    NTP servers with stratum 5 or worse clocks are deemed unreliable.
    Please consider using an NTP server with better stratum level.
    Please use OS Admin GUI to add/delete NTP servers.
    skip - sdl_fragmentation   : This module must be run directly and off hours
    skip - sdi_fragmentation   : This module must be run directly and off hours
    test - ipv6_networking     : Passed
    And on the RTMT (Real Time Monitoring Tool) you would have seen a Critical event:
    Condition:
    The best external NTP server, , is stratum , which is unacceptably high. External NTP servers must be <= strata 8 and should be <= strata 5. NTP server strata can be verified using the CLI 'utils ntp status' command ('st' column). Try using different NTP servers.
    Problem cause:
    All specified external NTP server(s) have unacceptably high stratum values. Network issues exist or the designated servers have unreliable stratum values.
    Information is self explanatory and therefore reassures the need of having a NTP different from the server itself.
    By the snippet you sent we can know that it is the publisher server, as the Subscriber polls this information from the Publisher.
    Installing the Operating System and Cisco Unity Connection 8.x
    http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/voice_ip_comm/connection/8x/installation/guide/8xcucig020.html
    "Cisco recommends that you use an external NTP server to ensure accurate system time on the publisher server. Ensure the external NTP server is stratum 9 or higher (meaning stratums 1-9). The subscriber server will get its time from the publisher server"
    Documentation also reaffirms the need for that NTP to be accessible otherwise your system can be degraded.  Some addtional information which would be interesting to know is:
    - Why did they had to restart the NTP in the first place?
    System Requirements for Cisco Unity Connection Release 8.x
    http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/voice_ip_comm/connection/8x/requirements/8xcucsysreqs.html
    "A network time protocol (NTP) server must be accessible to the Connection server"
    On the Cisco Unity Connection Serviceability> Tools> CLuster Management screen shot you sent i see that the ports were "Not Available" and that the customer stated "there was no service for 5 minutes".
    By no service did they mean that over the phone they heard a disconnected tone or a failsafe message?
    Additionaly after the servers resolved from SBR the Subscriber never recovered entirely as it did not start the Conversation Manager service.
    Bottom line if they are able to reproduce it then it would be worth a while checking with TAC
