Change APEX from HTTP-Server to 11g

Hello together
I installed an Oracle 10gR2 Database and Apex 3.1 is running on the HTTP-Server (from the 10gR2 Companion CD).
Now i want to upgrade to 11g and use the embedded PL/SQL Gateway so that i can turn off the HTTP-Server. Have you got any tips to do that ? Is there something specially ?
Thanks for your help.

Andrew, there is a number of posts on this forum with exactly the same issue and resolutions to the issue. Please search the forum. If you do not find a solution, let me know and I'll help you from there.

  • Missing HTTP Server on 11g Installation

    Hi,
    Just successfully installed 11g Enterprise. Which, as I understand it, comes bundled nowadays with APEX and the Oracle HTTP server.
    But in my efforts to set up APEX and the HTTP server, I'm noticing a distinct lack of HTTP server! None of the files or folders that are supposed to present are there, but APEX is.
    I've followed the documentation to the letter and its all gone well up to the part where I have to edit the dads.conf file, whereupon I've noticed that file doesnt exist, and neither does the entire directory structure leading to it:
    "ORACLE_BASE\ORACLE_HTTPSERVER_HOME\ohs\modplsql\conf\dads.conf"
    I cant see any obvious directory in the oracle base that could be the http server home directory.
    Am I being dumb or blind, or am I genuinely missing the HTTP server and relevant directories and files?
    Help much appreciated!

    Use the EPG. In database 10g, the HTTP server was on the companion CD. In database 11g, HTTP server is not included(however you can download it if you really want to from the middleware stack or I guess from Apache). In database 11g, the deployment of APEX with HTTP server powered by Apache is deprecated in favour of the Embdded PLSQL Gateway (the modplsql bit from a HTTP server insde the database). The install guide includes both methods to give you a choice. Just because HTTP server is no longer included as part of the database media does not mean that you can not use it.

  • Apex SSL from  HTTP server - err 29040

    Have apex environment (originally 3.1.2 now 3.2) workiing fine under http server 10.1.3. regular http port 7777.
    After going thru the ssl and wallet documentation steps to apply certificates supplied to me, and scouring all the blogs, I'm still failing under https 4443 with:
    SSL call to NZ function nzos_Handshake failed with error 29040
    The default oracle ewallet.p12 lets me in after first complaining about the certificates. I made a new wallet, with owm, and added in the trusted certs that are suppsoed to match our internal browsers. Thats when things go wrong.
    I've tried, and of course bounced opmnctl with stopall, startall after changing each one:
    (1) in opmn.xml verified <ssl enabled="true"
    (2) auto-logon checked in the wallet with cwallet.sso,
    (3) left it off, regen'd wallet and set SSLWalletPassword to it's value,
    (4) tried and verified different wallet locations and the right settings in ssl.conf. (feel confident the ssl.conf settings work cause I can cause other errors by commenting out SSLWalletPassword in ssl.conf with auto-logon=off),
    (5) SSLVerifyClient set to none
    (6) in opmn.xml verified <data id="start-mode" value="ssl-enabled"/>
    (7) set LogLevel in httpd.conf to Debug (more output but nothing obviously usefull)
    (8) set SSLLogLevel in ssl.conf to debug (more output but nothing obviously usefull)
    any ideas would be much appreciated. AND especially does anyone know what the default password is for that default ewallet.p12 ?
    if it told me during install I must have missed it. first born for that cause maybe I can modify it and add in my certs ?

    Srini, thanks so much for helping. Sorry I didn't reply right off hand. To be honest I couldn't find doc id 473047 in metalink and then I finally got hold of our Certificate group and have been busy with them and just now got things resolved. Thanks again for replying. Really appreciate it.
    If anyone else stumbles across this in the future, after having installed just the http server and not knowing much about it, the default pwd to the default wallet is welcome. (be sure and make a copy of this ewallet.p12 in conf/ssl.wlt/default before playing with it). The invalid cipher clues of the 29040 msg were not the direct problem in my case. For me it ended up being incomplete wallet information as the root cause under 10.1.3.
    At first we had been just inserting trusted certificates into the wallet thinking that should match our inhouse browser images. Instead the "Warning, this is a development" msg kept showing. Finally we went thru the steps outlined in the documentation, using owm xwindows (or orapki) to create a new wallet from scratch, add a user certificate request, save the wallet, then export the user cert req to a flat file. You can then send that to your internal security group (assuming you have one) or whoever your Cert Authority is. They then send you back a new certificate that should constitute your User Certificate. You must first load in your trusted certificates (usually a Root and Issuing type trusted certs to constitute your "chain"). Then you can do a Import User Cert under owm and load in the afiorementioned fiel recvd from you security group. Also note the ON= value on your request must equal your DNS name as in server.xyz.com Also, I was being sent .key files that I could never import in. They then sent me pem files that had the key info blended in from what I understand and those worked.
    I was able to get variations of the 29040 error (290xx) by trying different values within the HTTPD.conf -> ssl.conf file for the various SSL variables. In the end I've ended up with the modified settings of
    SSLCipherSuite ALL
    SSLProxyCipherSuite ALL
    SSLVerifyClient none
    SSLProtocol ALL
    SSLProxyProtocol ALL
    although I suspect other combinations would be fine as well.
    The opmn/conf settings were set to the various values as seen in other postings and blogs but in the end did nto seem to be the issue for me. Other than modifying those <port local="6xxx" remote="6xxx" request="6xxx"/> to prevent the opmn logs from filling up fast. To do that I had to try different values that the ones found in some of the main google postings.

    On UNIX, you will hare to run as root if you want to run on ports less than 1024.
    In order to run Oracle HTTP Server as root, perform the following steps:
    Shutdown Oracle HTTP Server using the following command:
    UNIX: ORACLE_HOME/opmn/bin> opmnctl [verbose] stopproc ias-component=HTTP_Server
    Change to root user. Navigate to ORACLE_HOME/Apache/Apache/bin on UNIX or ORACLE_HOME\Apache\Apache\bin on Windows and execute the following command:

    In your middle tier (where your dads.conf file is located), do you have a file called marvel.conf (this was used in very early versions of APEX if memory servers)? If so you will either need to put your /pls/apex entry into your marvel.conf file of configure the App Server to user the dads.conf file. (I think all of this is done in the http.conf file but I am not 100%)
    Also, this sounds like a stupid question but can you ensure that you only have entry in you dads.conf or marvel.conf file that relates to /pls/apex
    If you are still having issues, try updating the line: PlsqlDatabaseConnectString faiz:1521:orcl ServiceNameFormat
    to: PlsqlDatabaseConnectString TNS_ENTRY TNSFormat
    where TNS_ENTRY is replaced by a valid TNS Identifier in the same Mid Tier home: ORACLE_HOME/network/admin/tnsnames.ora
    Finally, in earlier versions you had to use a forward slash character as the last value in the Alias line i.e. Alias /i/ "E:/oracle/product/10.2.0/db/Apache/images\". I always configure this line in this way and never seem to have an issues. Not sure if this is required anymore but may be one more thing that is mis configured.
    I hope all of that helps.
    Let me know how you get on.

  • APEX OAS HTTP SERVER etc

    Hi
    I'm not clear on architecture - for 10g Enterprise Edition, if I want to install APEX do I have to have an application server or can I just install the http server on the same box as the database? Is there anything wrong with this on a system that is pretty intensive database wise but will probably only ever have 3 or 4 apex users hitting the application?
    Are there any diagrams of the different options available in the Oracle docs as I have not been able to find one?
    Cheers
    Phil

    For a quick and dirty 'evaluation', you might think about these points.
    You don't need OAS, and that is not the standard Apex installation, although you can use it if you like. Configuration is similar to OHS once OAS is installed and running, although there are more 'moving parts' to OAS, and therefore could be considered more complex.
    OHS and the embedded gateway are the standard Apex installation options. The embedded gateway means that you make http requests directly to the database machine. You cannot separate it from the database server. OHS can be installed on a different machine or the same machine as the database. Your choice there.
    If you're looking for simplicity and a single machine installation, try the embedded gateway. If you want to separate the web server from the database, go OHS. Personally, I would not bother with OAS.

  • Separate Media -vs- Companion CD - Oracle HTTP Server for 11g

    I am finally upgrading to Oracle 11g. We have been using HTML-DB for a couple of years. In the Oracle Database Installation Guide 11g it says "Starting with Oracle Database 11g, Oracle HTTP Server is available on a separate media shipped with Oracle Database. In previous releases, this product was available as a Companion CD component."
    What's the difference between "separate media shipped with Oracle Database" and a "Companion CD"? Wouldn't something that is shipped with something else be a companion?
    Cheers,
    Gregory

    What's the difference between "separate media shipped with Oracle Database" and a "Companion CD"?
    The Companion CD was used for material that wouldn't fit on the base CD and which might be optional or unnecessary for many customers. The packaging was labeled with the term "Companion CD" using the English language proper-noun-as-adjective capitalization convention.
    Wouldn't something that is shipped with something else be a companion?
    Sure, but the suggested semantic relationship between the ad hoc notation "Companion" and companionship neither excludes accompanying or adjunct materials that do not have this designation from the "companion" category nor does it situate all "companion" material as members of the "Companion" category. If Oracle had labeled the CD as the "Overflow CD" the difference in connotation would have been slight but would not lead me to conflate such supplemental offerings with certain household plumbing mishaps.

  • Best way to push change data from sql server to windows/web application

    i apologized that i do not know should i ask this question in this forum or not.
    i have win apps which will load all data initially from db and display through grid but from the next time when any data will change in db or any data will be inserted newly in db then only change or newly inserted data need to be pushed from db side to
    my win apps. now only sql dependency class is coming to my mind but there is a problem regarding sql dependency class that it notify client but do not say which data is updated or inserted.
    so i am looking for best guidance and easy way to achieve my task. what will be the best way to push data from sql server to win or web client.
    there is two issue
    1) how to determine data change or data insert. i guess that can be handle by trigger
    2) next tough part is how very easily push those data from sql server end to win apps end.
    so looking for expert guide. thanks

    Hello,
    Yes, you can create DML trigger on INSERT and UPDATE to get the changed data into a temp table. And then query the temp table from application.
    If you are use SQL Server 2008 or later version, you can also try to use
    Change data capture, which
    can track insert, update, and delete activity that is applied to a SQL Server table and store the changed values on the Change Table.

  • Post XML from HTTPs server

    How do I get the HTTPs server to send/post the XML file to user's mailbox?
    The situation is like this: User from System A need to send XML file to User in System B. These 2 can't communicate directly.So the XML file will be posted to an HTTPs server. This HTTPs server will then post the XML to the recipient based on the mailboxid. This mailboxid is specified in the XML. How do i send the XML to the designated mailbox?

    You write something that runs on the server, receives
    the uploaded XML file, attaches it to an e-mail
    message, and sends that message. Since you ask in the
    Java context, that something could be a servlet. (You
    will notice that this applies equally well to files
    that aren't XML.)Hi there! Thanks for the feedback. So I need to create a servlet in the HTTPs server which upon receiving of the XML file, servlet need to read the XML content to get the mailboxid then attach the XML file to that mailboxid? All these can be done in one servlet? Please correct me id I'm wrong. Your feedback is highly appreciated. Thanks..:)

  • Invalid WSDL - Certificate not trusted - Exception while publishing WSDL in OSR from HTTPS Server

    Hi,
    I am publishing a Web Service in OSR from an HTTPS Server. I am getting exception as
    Error message:
    WSDLException: faultCode=INVALID_WSDL: java.io.IOException: java.security.cert.CertificateException: Server certificate ....... is not trusted!
    To remove this exception I have done following steps
    a) Added Certificate from remote server in Identity Store of WebLogic Server using keytool utilitity
    keytool -import -alias devCertificate -file c:/certificates/okdsoa.cer -truststore demoIdentityStore.jks
    b) Added Certificate from remote server in the trust store of weblogic server using keytool utility
    keytool -import -alias devCertificate -file c:/certificates/okdsoa.cer -truststore demoTrust.jks
    This didnot help.
    Then I imported certificate to OSR using PStoreTool command as
    PStoreTool.bat add -config C:/OSRHome/registry111/conf/clientconf.xml -certFile c:/certificates/okdsoa.cer
    Bounced the servers but that also didnot help.
    Can you please suggest?
    Thanks,
    Parshant

    I found the fix from Oracle Support Knowlededge Base
    sslTool serverInfo --url https://HOST:9043 --certFile newcert.cer
    PStoreTool located in REGISTRY_HOME/bin/PStoreTool add -config
    WEBLOGIC_HOME/user_projects/domains/[osr_domain_name]/servers/[osr_server_name]/tmp/_WL_user/registry/[unique id]/public/conf/pstore.xml -certFile newcert.cer
    I was updating wrong file with the certificate. It had to be pstore.xml. This solved my issue.

  • How move apex from one server to another

    Hi All,
    I am just a beginner who has just started with APEX. Its strange but even though I am just a beginner I was given a task to move the current whole apex system from one server to another.
    Can any one help what the steps do I need to follow to do this?
    I also need to setup backup server to this new server so that in case this new server goes down, the backup one can be made productional.
    I think I should move apex first then move the whole database. Is there any tool or some thing which can do it for me?
    Thanks

    Hi,
    what you are being asked to do would be a complex task for an experienced DBA, which, judging by the way you have asked the questions, you are not, no offence intended.
    As far as I can see you have three options.
    1. Hire a consultant/contractor with the necessary skills to perform the tasks.
    2. Gain several years experience as an Oracle DBA, including Apex, backup and recovery and disaster recovery skills.
    3. Look for a new job.
    Sorry to sound facetious, but it is a ridiculous task you have been given assuming the skill and knowledge level you are coming from. Assuming you have not misrepresented yourself to your employer, this is not your fault and I think you need to seriously push back on your boss if possible.

  • How do I change TimeStamp from US server to UK time

    Hello,
    I am based in the UK. My hosting company is based in the US. I am using a MySql database. All the database tables have timestamps that are set to the local machine time.
    I would like to change the timestamp so that it is GMT.
    Can you please tell me how I would go about doing this?
    Is their any code available to enable me to insert the timestamp as a GMT date or do I set the value from the mysql database end.
    Thanks
    Andrew

    Timestamp values in Java (java.sql.Timestamp) are GMT internally (actually, they're implemented as a long giving the number of milliseconds since 1. january, 1970).
    Date values in SQL, on the other hand, are normally stored in the local time zone.
    What you need to do, is tell JDBC what time zone you want the stored values to be in, like this:
    When inserting (using a PreparedStatement):
      stmt.setTimestamp(column, myTimestamp, Calendar.getInstance(TimeZone.getTimeZone("GMT")));When reading back from a ResultSet:
      Timestamp ts = rs.getTimestamp(column, Calendar.getInstance(TimeZone.getTimeZone("GMT")));Now, you know that the timestamp value you've read back from the database does not have any bias to it introduced by the local timezone of the database server. The next step is to represent the Java Timestamp value to the user, and at this stage you may want to specify which time zone you want for the rendered timestamp, like this:
      import java.text.DateFormat;
      import java.text.SimpleDateFormat;
      // convert the Timestamp to a String in a controlled manner
      // see the documentation for SimpleDateFormat for how you specify the format string
      DateFormat df = new SimpleDateFormat("yyyy.MM.dd HH.mm.ss");
      // need to set the time zone, or the server's time zone will be used
      // if you can somehow figure out the time zone where the user is
      // sitting, you may use that instead, to provide dates relative to
      // the user instead of the server
      df.setTimeZone(TimeZone.getTimeZone("GMT"));
      String outValue = df.format(myTimestamp);
      // output the converted value, maybe
      System.out.println(outValue);Similarly, you may use the parse() method of DateFormat to parse a String as a java.util.Date, which may then be converted into a Timestamp.
    The general principles are as follows:
    - internally, Java Timestamps, Dates etc. are stored relative to 1. january 1970, GMT
    - when getting date values into or out of Java, time zones may have to be considered
    - for converting to/from Strings (eg. for UI purposes), use the java.text.DateFormat class
    - for communicationg with an SQL database via JDBC, use the set/get-Timestamp methods with the added Calendar argument
    NB! Please be aware that I didn't actually try to compile this code, so bugs may be present.

  • Reading from http server

    Hi guys and girls,
    I've got a simple problem: i'm busy programming a browser (for now it's a simple text based browser) and everything works fine, the connection works and it gets all http headers and the html file. But once and a while my program doesn't terminate properly and i think it's got something to do with the following loop:
    /* Read the first line returned by the server */
    String fromServer = input.readLine();
    while (fromServer != null){
    System.out.print(fromServer+"\r\n");
    /* Read the next line untill that line is blank*/
    fromServer = input.readLine();
    Sometimes this works, sometimes it doesnt (mind you: the http headers are received before this loop, so that's not the problem). This loop should get the html file at the specified url: at some locations it just keeps running and it doesn't exit, so this loop isn't exited because right after it i close my connections and perform a System.exit().
    Does anyone have any idea what my problem is? The loop should stop when the server doesn't send anymore lines from the html file: it shows the html closing tag everytime so that is the last line from the html file, yet it fails to exit the loop. The weird thing is: sometimes it works properly, sometimes it doesn't., and when it doesn't it doesn't show input anymore so all html text is sent by the server.
    Are there other ways to make the program exit the loop when all the lines from the html file are sent?
    The input stream i use is a buffered inputstream reader:
    input = new BufferedReader(new InputStreamReader(c.getInputStream()));
    Hope you understand the problem :)

    1. You didn't show what kind of connection u get. For example HttpConnection may be looped due
    to response redirection.
    2. I think the best practice for the case is to read bytes from the stream but not lines, for instance:
    int c = 0;
    while( (c=in.read())>=0 ){
    .... do something
    }

    This is frequently caused by failing to meet APEX installation and configuration requirements. Ensure the DAD character set is AL32UTF8 and version of the PL/SQL Web Toolkit >= 10.1.2.0.6.
    The DAD may be at the location indicated in the documentation link below, or it may be somewhere else depending on the local configuration. The PL/SQL Web Toolkit can be checked using the query <tt>select owa_util.get_version from dual</tt> in the SQL Workshop.

  • APEX Oracle 11g HTTP Server - Cannot get SSL working

    I have installed APEX on Oracle 11g with the Oracle HTTP Server on MS Windows server.
    Data base up and running, APEX up an running.
    All works as expected on port 7777
    When I try 4443 I get error message re self signed certificate by Oracle, but if I click through error message I get an https connection.
    I want to replace default cert with a locally signed cert, and get SSL working on 4443, then switch to port 443.
    I have used the Oracle Wallet manager, generated a CSR, had this signed by my corproate CA, and installed the corporate CA cert and the newly signed server cert into the wallet (with Auto Login Set) and saved it in:
    D:\orahttp\Oracle_WT1\instances\apex\config\OHS\ohs1\keystores\infosec2wallet
    This creates two files: ewallet.p12 and cwallet.sso
    I then manually add the group/users "SYSTEM" and "Administrators" to these two files to match the security tab on the default wallet.
    I T then go to the ssl.conf file located at:
    D:\orahttp\Oracle_WT\instances\apex\config\OHS\ohs1\ssl.conf
    and changed the entry:
    #SSLWallet "${ORACLE_INSTANCE}/config/${COMPONENT_TYPE}/${COMPONENT_NAME}/keystores/default"
    SSLWallet "${ORACLE_INSTANCE}/config/${COMPONENT_TYPE}/${COMPONENT_NAME}/keystores/infosec2wallet"
    I then stop and start the Oracle HTTP Server - ohs1 from the start menu.
    Then I try to connect from my desk top machine using the following URL:
    https://us-pghinfosec2.ariba.com:4443/pls/apex/f?p=101:1:

    ==========
    I am at a loss as to what to do. It acts like Oracle HTTP can not open my wallet.
    I suspect it needs the password to the wallet but I cannot find any place to specify the password, and Auto Login should have addressed that issue.
    Any insights welcome.

    Hello Lakshmi,
    >
    I got your point but in our case HTTP Server and Oracle Database (APEX) running on different machines.
    Oracle HTTP Server running on a Windows 2003 server and Oracle Database running on Sun Solaris machine.

    Please let me know if my question is not clear.

    I got your point but in our case HTTP Server and Oracle Database (APEX) running on different machines.Did I missed something?
    You should have mentioned this additional information in the original question itself.
    </li>
    <li>Oracle HTTP Server running on a Windows 2003 server and Oracle Database running on Sun Solaris machine.As long as [url http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E37097_01/doc/install.42/e35123/otn_install.htm#BHAFJJDA]dads.conf is configured correctly there should not be a problem with this.
    From Original question:
    We are having Oracle APEX 3.1 version on Oracle 10g Database and Oracle 10g HTTP Server as web server in our organization.How did this setup of APEX worked?(i.e. on different machines)
    If you still have doubt about this you can do the setup and find out before upgrading.
    </li>
    <li>So do i need to change Oracle 10g HTTP Server? do i need to install Oracle 11g HTTP SErver?This question is answered in the above post. As long as you fulfill the [url http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E37097_01/doc/install.42/e35123/pre_require.htm#CFHIIJBE]HTTP Server Requirements for APEX 4.2 (Also we are discussing this long about only Oracle 10g HTTP Server but which version?)
    </li></ul>
    Hope now I am more clear!
