Missing HTTP Server on 11g Installation

Hi,
Just successfully installed 11g Enterprise. Which, as I understand it, comes bundled nowadays with APEX and the Oracle HTTP server.
But in my efforts to set up APEX and the HTTP server, I'm noticing a distinct lack of HTTP server! None of the files or folders that are supposed to present are there, but APEX is.
I've followed the documentation to the letter and its all gone well up to the part where I have to edit the dads.conf file, whereupon I've noticed that file doesnt exist, and neither does the entire directory structure leading to it:
"ORACLE_BASE\ORACLE_HTTPSERVER_HOME\ohs\modplsql\conf\dads.conf"
I cant see any obvious directory in the oracle base that could be the http server home directory.
Am I being dumb or blind, or am I genuinely missing the HTTP server and relevant directories and files?
Help much appreciated!

Use the EPG. In database 10g, the HTTP server was on the companion CD. In database 11g, HTTP server is not included(however you can download it if you really want to from the middleware stack or I guess from Apache). In database 11g, the deployment of APEX with HTTP server powered by Apache is deprecated in favour of the Embdded PLSQL Gateway (the modplsql bit from a HTTP server insde the database). The install guide includes both methods to give you a choice. Just because HTTP server is no longer included as part of the database media does not mean that you can not use it.

  • Separate Media -vs- Companion CD - Oracle HTTP Server for 11g

I am finally upgrading to Oracle 11g. We have been using HTML-DB for a couple of years. In the Oracle Database Installation Guide 11g it says "Starting with Oracle Database 11g, Oracle HTTP Server is available on a separate media shipped with Oracle Database. In previous releases, this product was available as a Companion CD component."
What's the difference between "separate media shipped with Oracle Database" and a "Companion CD"? Wouldn't something that is shipped with something else be a companion?
    Cheers,
    Gregory

What's the difference between "separate media shipped with Oracle Database" and a "Companion CD"?
The Companion CD was used for material that wouldn't fit on the base CD and which might be optional or unnecessary for many customers. The packaging was labeled with the term "Companion CD" using the English language proper-noun-as-adjective capitalization convention.
Wouldn't something that is shipped with something else be a companion?
Sure, but the suggested semantic relationship between the ad hoc notation "Companion" and companionship neither excludes accompanying or adjunct materials that do not have this designation from the "companion" category nor does it situate all "companion" material as members of the "Companion" category. If Oracle had labeled the CD as the "Overflow CD" the difference in connotation would have been slight but would not lead me to conflate such supplemental offerings with certain household plumbing mishaps.

  • Change APEX from HTTP-Server to 11g

    Hello together
I installed an Oracle 10gR2 Database and Apex 3.1 is running on the HTTP-Server (from the 10gR2 Companion CD).
Now i want to upgrade to 11g and use the embedded PL/SQL Gateway so that i can turn off the HTTP-Server. Have you got any tips to do that ? Is there something specially ?
    Thanks for your help.

Andrew, there is a number of posts on this forum with exactly the same issue and resolutions to the issue. Please search the forum. If you do not find a solution, let me know and I'll help you from there.

  • Installing Oracle HTTP Server WITHOUT Universal Installer?

On my computer (Win XP, DB 10.1.0.4) the Universal Installer that comes with the Companion CD still fails at startup. So I installed HTML DB from the htmldb_2.0.zip file.
But what about the HTTP Server? How can install it without using the OUI?
The response file from the Companion CD offers only these two choices:
    - Oracle HTML DB and Oracle HTTP Server
    - Oracle HTML DB only
I have to admit that I don't really fancy the idea of installing HTML DB again via response file...
    Any ideas?

    Sabine,
Do you use an intel pentium 4?Yes. Do you think that bug is still around? No, I was confusing it because just recently I installed 8.1.7 on my XP machine and ran into that bug. It shouldn't affect a 10.x install.
What is the error message you get? Or does it just
crash? The windows error message "The oui.exe found a
problem and need to be closed." ("oui.exe hat ein
Problem festgestellt und muss beendet werden") Tough. Not much information.
Do you have anything special set up on your machine, firewall, cluster, etc.? How much RAM?
Sometimes the setup.exe didn't work for me. There is another oui.exe in the "install" subdirectory. Please try this one.
If you don't get any further I would suggest to open an iTar with Oracle Support.
If you had more specific error messages perhaps we can find something.
Please look in c:\programme\oracle\inventory\logs whether you can find more information.

  • Http server in the same oracle home or not ?

Hi, finally i could install oracle 10g 10.2.0.3 on windows vista. Now i want to install http server but i wonder if i have to install in the same oracle home or in another one. Some documents says yes another one not.

    oracle_sv wrote:
I would like to keep 10g version. I have the cd companion. The fist time that i tried to install give some errors and after that i couldnĀ“r start OracleDB console and EMOuch! I suspect that was due to installing HTTP Server binaries in your Oracle home?
I have only installed HTTP Server on Linux, and I had a separate home for the Oracle database binaries and HTTP Server.
The installation (at least on Linux) was straight forward, provided you have done your prep work by installing the correct RPM's, environment, etc.
Once you have HTTP Server installed, you have to fulfil the rest of the APEX requirements (if not already done), such as:
    - Patch HTTP Server (for Linux, this is Application Server Patch 5983622)
    - Install XML DB
    - Install Oracle Text
    - Upgrade PL/SQL Web toolkit
    - Install APEX (I had 3.12 originally installed, but recently upgraded to 4.0 which was painless).
    - Configure your Apache/modplsql/conf/dads.conf in your HTTP Server home
You will need to read the installation guides on how to do each of the above. You might have more luck doing this on Linux than Windows.
If I was in your position and starting from scratch on this, I would be installing 11g, as it might not be so much work since APEX comes as part of 11g.

  • Oracle HTTP Server download bandwidth limited on Windows 2003 Server

    Hi,
we have an ApEx application with the following configuration on the server:
    OS: Windows 2003 Server 64Bit
    DB: 10.2.0.3 64bit
HTTP Server: the one that comes on the companion CD of Oracle DB 10g 32 bit
and after the bandwidth in the datacenter where the server resides was increased, I discovered a problem related to the server download bandwidth. I found on Metalink a Note [568075.1 - HTTP Server File Download Speed Is Slow |https://metalink2.oracle.com/metalink/plsql/ml2_documents.showDocument?p_database_id=NOT&p_id=568075.1] , but unfortunately not a very clear resolution given the fact that we use Oracle DB SEOne, so options 1 & 2 will involve additional licenses costs.
I tried option 3 suggested in the note by using the HTTP Server that comes with 11g (I assume this is a supported configuration also from licenses point of view HTTP Server from 11g on top of Oracle DB 10g) and I got a boost in performance but the bandwidth is still 70% compared to the bandwidth I get when downloading from the IIS on the same server.
Has anyone went through this exercise and found a solution for fully using the server bandwidth without needing to go for option 4 in the note, using Linux :), as in our case this will involve again additional licenses and/or hardware costs as the HTTP Server that comes with the DB has to be installed on the machine where the DB is installed?
    Thanks in advance,
    Florin

Ooops ... things like this happen with Oracle Support, no answer?
Can you tell me anyway the SR number or the SR title so that I can write it in the SR I make? Like that maybe Oracle Support will work harder on the case, as there are more customers hitting the same problem.
Anyway in the meanwhile, I run some tests with the original Apache and this one works like a charm even in Windows 2003 Server. What remains now to be done is to use the Open Source Apache as proxy to the HTTP Server, as it looks like it handles much better the static content, it supports also mod_gzip or mod_deflate, but does not support mod_plsql :(. So I think the combination of the two: will do the work for me, but it is really a pity that I have to configure 2 web servers because the HTTP Server has flaws in it :(. Hopefully these will be fixed soon

    Hi all,
I'm trying to install Application Server Infrastructure on RHEL 3, I Managed the connect the OID with database repository on another server..
But the installation failed at OPMN configuration assistant-start HTTP server!
I continued the installation anyway and used configToolCommands to configure the rest of the required tool, so now every thing is configured well exept for the (OPMN configuration assistant-start HTTP server)
in the installation log file, this was what I found:

So..Any idea what could be the problem? and how can I solve it?
Plz,reply as soon as you can, it's urgent..
    Thx.

try this...there might be a port conflict with webcache and Http.
if you do not need webcache..stop it and start http.
    opmnctl stopproc ias-component=Webc{C}ahe
    opmnctl startproc ias-component=HTTP_Server
i am positive it will be port conflict. try running your http in a different port.

  • Administration of Oracle HTTP Server in Application Server 10.1.3.1

    Hi
Can anyone tell me how to administer the Oracle HTTP Server from the Application Server Control not directly from the configuration files in Oracle Application Server 10.1.3.1.
I have followed the instructions given but the link for the HTTP Server is not activated and can't be clicked in the System Components table in Oracle Application Server Control page.
In the instructions given by the Oracle HTTP Server Admin guide was mentioned an user : ias_admin. But I haven't found it. All the users listed are oc4jadmin and something like JRAadmin.
Can anyone tell me how to proceed to make possible HTTP Server Administration, Configuration and Mainteinance directly from the Application Server Control in Enterprise Manager.
    Best regards
    Drini

    Hi
First of all, I am using the application server right now. I have deployed there a Java Web Service.
In the directory that you specified it wasn't something like setupinfo.tx but readme.txt the contents of which I am pasting below
    ////////Readme.txt////////////////
The installation of Oracle Application Server 10g 10.1.3.1.0 was successful.
These instructions are located in D:\product\10.1.3.1\OracleAS_1\install\readme.txt for your future reference.
You can view the status of the server with the following command:
    D:\product\10.1.3.1\OracleAS_1\opmn\bin\opmnctl status
Access the Welcome Page with the following URL:
    http://server:8888/
Access the Oracle Enterprise Manager 10g Application Server Control via the following URL:
    http://server:8888/em
    Installation Details:
    Installation Directory: D:\product\10.1.3.1\OracleAS_1
Installation Type: J2EE Server and Web Server
Installed Components: Oracle HTTP Server, Oracle Containers for J2EE (OC4J), and Oracle Process Manager & Notification Server (OPMN)
    Instance Name: as10gamf2.server
    Administrator Username: oc4jadmin
The log file containing the details of Configuration Asistants is located in D:\product\10.1.3.1\OracleAS_1\cfgtoollogs
    \\\\ End of Readme.txt \\\\\\\\\\\
i have tried before the opmnctl status command and it says that the HTTP_Server and the OC4JGroup are alive. Only ASG is down. This is by default in all iAS installations I have done.

  • HTTP Server fails to starts during E-Business installation

    Hello All,
I am having issues installing e-business suite 12.1.1 on Oracle Linux 6.2.
I have applied all the correct packages (and a couple that were not listed in the installation instructions), applied required patches, upgraded the startCD version to the latest, run the md5sum checks on the Stage directory, and a bunch of manual stuff which it doesn't tell you to do in the installation notes, but you have to do to make it work, e.g. linking unzip 5.x from the startCD to /usr/bin/unzip. I thought that I had it cracked until it failed at the last HTTP Server checks.
I have attempted to restart services manually but it appears as though the HTTP server cannot start due to a missing library libdb-4.3.so:
    HTTP_Server~1.log
    */u01/applR12/inst/apps/<SID>_<HOST>/ora/10.1.3/Apache/Apache/bin/apachectl startssl: execing httpd*
*/u01/applR12/apps/tech_st/10.1.3/Apache/Apache/bin/httpd: error while loading shared libraries: libdb-4.3.so: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory*
There was another post where a similar issue was resolved in a OEL 5 x86.x64 install by applying a i383 gdbm package, and linking the existing library as the document id which you posted suggested.
This package cannot be applied, as I have attempted.
I then started to look for the library which is reported in the logs as being missing, i.e. libdb-4.3.so. This does not appear to exist for OEL 6.
I then looked further afield and found a Centos 6.2 rpm which contained this library. I extracted this and linked it to the libdb.so.2 (patch 6078836).
I am getting the following from the adstrtal.log (I ran the cat command as root not adstrtal.sh which I ran as the application user):

    Hello Hussein,
Thank you for getting back to me! As per the installation instructions it states the following:
    # cd /usr/lib
    # ln -s libdb-4.7.so libdb-4.3.so
However there is no libdb-4.7.so library there to link to.
I have installed the db4 i686 & x86_64 packages which contain this library, then performed the above. I then ran the adstrtal.sh command which completed without incident.
As such the Required Packages in the installation instructions should be updated to include the following:
    db4.i686
    db4-devel.i686
    db4.x86_64
    db4-devel.x86_64

  • HTTP server on Oracle 11g R1 and apex listener

I have installed APEX 4.0.1 on Oracle 11g R1 and things went well until the installation of the APEX listener.
    - I followed the installation guide and I opted for the basic connection type but I found the following message:
the network adapter could not establish the connection
I then checked my services and i noted that i had only four services which are:
    - OracleDBConsoleORCL
    - OracleJobSchedulerORCL
    - OracleOraDb11g_home1TNSListener
    - OracleServiceORCL
And there is no oracle HTTP server as I had for oracle 9.2 on another machine.
Can Anybody help on this ?
thanks in advance for your help,
    Pierre

    Hi Pierre,
as Tony posted, you usually chose the APEX Listener to access your APEX instance by using a J2EE container (like OAS/OC4J, Oracle WebLogic, Sun Glassfish) rather than using OHS+mod_plsql. So you'd need to search for the service that comprises the J2EE container to which you deployed the war-File for the APEX Listener.
So as it seems you did not deploy to an existing J2EE container (you would not the proper URL...) you probably want to use the embedded web container of the APEX Listener. This container does not register any service and is started on demand.
If you deployed to an existing J2EE container, use its access scheme ( PROTOCOL://HOST:PORT/CONTEXT ) to access the APEX Listener, where CONTEXT is defaulted to apex if you stick to the installation manual. Remember to configure the APEX Listener after deployment via PROTOCOL://HOST:PORT/CONTEXT/listenerConfigure , as described in the installation manual.
Please follow the installation manual for the APEX Listener thoroughly to configure that instance and get the right port to access the service on the machine on which you started that embedded container, probably your localhost.

  • 11.1.2 on 64bit Windows 2008 R2 - Oracle HTTP Server  assembly missing

After downloading and unpacking everything into a single folder and running InstallTool, I'm finding 'Oracle HTTP' is showing as missing.
No other product is missing, just the HTTP Server. I checked and the .dat file for OHS is in the file system.
Anyone else seen this on 64bit Win2008?

I tried Windows Server 2008 R2, and couldn't get it to work. Even though IIS was successfully installed, the installation of several of the apps failed because the installer didn't recognize that IIS was there. I believe Alp had the same issue trying to install on Windows 7 (not server).
    R1 installed fine.

  • APEX Oracle 11g HTTP Server - Cannot get SSL working

I have installed APEX on Oracle 11g with the Oracle HTTP Server on MS Windows server.
Data base up and running, APEX up an running.
All works as expected on port 7777
When I try 4443 I get error message re self signed certificate by Oracle, but if I click through error message I get an https connection.
I want to replace default cert with a locally signed cert, and get SSL working on 4443, then switch to port 443.
I have used the Oracle Wallet manager, generated a CSR, had this signed by my corproate CA, and installed the corporate CA cert and the newly signed server cert into the wallet (with Auto Login Set) and saved it in:
    D:\orahttp\Oracle_WT1\instances\apex\config\OHS\ohs1\keystores\infosec2wallet
This creates two files: ewallet.p12 and cwallet.sso
I then manually add the group/users "SYSTEM" and "Administrators" to these two files to match the security tab on the default wallet.
I T then go to the ssl.conf file located at:
    D:\orahttp\Oracle_WT\instances\apex\config\OHS\ohs1\ssl.conf
    and changed the entry:
    #SSLWallet "${ORACLE_INSTANCE}/config/${COMPONENT_TYPE}/${COMPONENT_NAME}/keystores/default"
    SSLWallet "${ORACLE_INSTANCE}/config/${COMPONENT_TYPE}/${COMPONENT_NAME}/keystores/infosec2wallet"
I then stop and start the Oracle HTTP Server - ohs1 from the start menu.

I suspect it needs the password to the wallet but I cannot find any place to specify the password, and Auto Login should have addressed that issue.
    Any insights welcome.
    Thanks - Elton Hay

    Hello Lakshmi,

I got your point but in our case HTTP Server and Oracle Database (APEX) running on different machines.
Oracle HTTP Server running on a Windows 2003 server and Oracle Database running on Sun Solaris machine.

Please let me know if my question is not clear.

I got your point but in our case HTTP Server and Oracle Database (APEX) running on different machines.Did I missed something?
You should have mentioned this additional information in the original question itself.
    </li>
<li>Oracle HTTP Server running on a Windows 2003 server and Oracle Database running on Sun Solaris machine. As long as [url http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E37097_01/doc/install.42/e35123/otn_install.htm#BHAFJJDA]dads.conf is configured correctly there should not be a problem with this.
    From Original question:
We are having Oracle APEX 3.1 version on Oracle 10g Database and Oracle 10g HTTP Server as web server in our organization. How did this setup of APEX worked?(i.e. on different machines)
If you still have doubt about this you can do the setup and find out before upgrading.
    </li>
<li>So do i need to change Oracle 10g HTTP Server? do i need to install Oracle 11g HTTP SErver? This question is answered in the above post. As long as you fulfill the [url http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E37097_01/doc/install.42/e35123/pre_require.htm#CFHIIJBE]HTTP Server Requirements for APEX 4.2 (Also we are discussing this long about only Oracle 10g HTTP Server but which version?)
    </li></ul>
Hope now I am more clear!

    Kiran

A few guesses what could be wrong.
    - Under which user are you installing, does this user have all the rights to create and start stuff.
    - Have you first installed a weblogic server (this should be installed) and did associate any components with the weblogic domain?
I usually do not associate anything with my weblogic domain and configure the httpd.conf file for the Apache server by hand instead of using the enterprise manager.
Once the WebLogic server is installed i follow the following steps
    Installation WebTier
    Run setup.exe
Select Install Software - Do Not Configure.
    Click Next.
    Prerequisite Checks --> Next.
    Accept the default installation directory.
    Click Next.
Uncheck i wish to... click Next (in the pop-up Yes)
    Click Install.
Click when the installation it finished and click Finish
    Configuration WebTier
    Run the file <WebTier-Home>/bin/config.bat.
    Click Next
Uncheck Associate Selected Components with WebLogic Domain and click Next
Accept the defaults and click Next
Enter the parameters for the WebCache
    Web Cache Administrator Password: password
    Confirm Password: password
    Click Next.
Select Auto Port Configuration and click Next.
Uncheck I wish to... and click Next. (pop-up Yes)
    Click Configure
    Click Next and Click Finish
When i follow the above steps an instance of the webtier is running.
