Change Book Cover layout

Hi everyone,
Is there anyway to change the amount of images required on a cover. I am trying to use the stock colour black book and only want one image on the front cover but seem to be stuck with three.
For instance if i only place one image onto the cover page, will the two other boxes simply not be printed and if so is there anyway of changing the size of the one image?
Any ideas you have would be greatfully received.
Many Thanx
Mark B

Answered my own question after finding the edit layout button just above the pages column.

Well I did do it right.... I did drag the photo that I wanted to be the cover photo to the cover and it would not stay there.  Other photos drag where you want them.
What I exactly want to do it change the book cover photo.  The program for making a book sorts the photos where it feels they best fit.  How it decided on a cover photo I do NOT know.  I do not get any ERROR messages. I simply cannot find a way to change the book cover photo.

  • How can i change my book cover style

I created my iPhoto book of pics. I started it as a coil bound book. How can I change the cover style?

select the book under keepsakes in the source pane and duplicate ( command - D ) in case of problems  - and then for the duplicate open it and click on themes and select the same theme and the new cover - check the new book very carefully to be sure text did not reflow and preview it before ordering -
Before ordering your book preview it using this method - http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1040 - and save the resulting PDF for reference - the delivered book will match it.

  • How to add a title to the book cover/spine?

    Hi,
appears to be a stupid question, but I couldn't find any answer in the Videos by JK o any other help page:
How can I add a title to he book cover and the spine of a blurb-book made in LR5?
I could not find any cover template having a title (only a lot of text).
    Thanks a lot in advance,
        schleifi

I have worked with Booksmart and made one book successfully. I have also made a book in Lr 5.2 and had it printed by Blurb to my satisfaction.
Compared to creating a book in Lr the workflow in Booksmart is cumbersome and slow.
    (1) During the creation of a book in Lr I test the book often by exporting it as a PDF. This option is only available when you select PDF instead of Blurb - but it is possible to switch between PDF and Blurb without harm. The only change is that the Blurb logo page disappears when PDF is selected. Viewing the PDF in Acrobat tells me what the book will look like in print since my monitor is calibrated and set to the correct intensity (brightness).  It also tells me if my sharpening is good. For the export to PDF I select 100 for quality; color profile sRGB; file resolution 300; sharpening High; media type glossy.
A Blurb representative told me that these settings come close to the settings that Lr uses when the book is uploaded to Blurb.
In Booksmart I can't export to PDF.
BTW you should sharpen the image so much that it looks a bit too sharp in your PDF. When the boook is printed the ink droplets spread out a tiny bit before they dry. This tends to make the print softer than it looks on screen.
    (2) Booksmart is not color managed. Therefore in Booksmart you have no feedback how your book will look in print. If you want to test your images you have to softproof them in Photoshop.
    (3) When I make a book I find often that my develop adjustments are not optimal. In Lr it is very easy to switch the the Develop Module, make the necessary adjustments and switch back to the Book Module. With Booksmart you have to export the adjusted image again - or it has to be re-published if you use the Blurb plug-in.
    (4) In the past I have made complaints that Lr does not give enough flexibility for the layout. Since then I have worked more in Lr and I find the Book Module actually quite good.
I find that the full page bleed allows the most flexibility for creating my own layout. Starting with a full page bleed I use the padding feature to place the image anywhere on the page and in any size I want. The boxes for "Page Text" and "Photo Text" allow for more than one column. The text can be edited by adjusting Tracking (all letters are spaced wider/closer), Kerning (individual pairs of letters can be spaced), Baseline (letters can be pushed up or down), or Leading (the distance between different lines of text can be adjusted). There are no such features in Booksmart.
    (5) Selecting a color for page background or for text is cumbersome in Booksmart. In Lr it's easy.
The cover of my first book in Lr looks like this:

  • Is there a step-by-step instruction on How to Prepare a Book Cover?

Is there a step-by-step instruction on How to Prepare a Book Cover?

    f peter,
Maybe, but it depends on the method of binding. Presuming a soft cover from back (flap) over spine to front (flap), corresponding to a normal section sewing or normal glued paperback, at least the following steps apply:
    1) Determination of the size of the front/back cover, corresponding to the paper size used for the (text) block (with the addition of the spine thickness); for books with flaps also the width of the flaps (remember to add at least some 2 mm to the width of the front/back cover to get a grip, you may get the feeling by looking a a few books with flaps);
    2) Determination of the the width of the spine: this is determined by the width of the (text) block (with the addition of twice the cover thickness) which again depends on the page number (including possible blank pages) and the paper stock; normally, the printer/binder will tell you;
    3) General layout with final cut size, (outside that) bleed, marks for cutting (which in some applications/versions are termed crop marks) and folding, registration marks, and possibly other printer's marks (you may find that in the Helpfile of the application; marks for folding are probably not included); especially in connexion with a high quality book, a crease for reverse folding some 7 mm from the folds at the spine may preserve the contact between front/back cover and spine/block (this is the first defense line against a battered look and tearing off the cover);
    4) Creation and positioning of the artwork; remember that the folds break the artwork into separate parts viewed separately/at different angles, and avoid crucial parts close to the folds which should form transitions or be empty (with just the background colour).
As it appears from 2), you will have to talk to the printer/binder in any case. Get as much information as you can get about what they need/want.
    And remember prepress proofing.
Obviously, there is much more to say.

  • How can I change Workflow page layout

    Hi,
I have developed a Workflow for Business trips in company where I'm working. Workflow works fine, but I'm not happy with page layout of my workflow...it's too ordinary and too gray:(
How can I change Workflow page layout?!?
I would like to make templates for header, footer, right menu...to put company logo...
Is there any tutorial or documentation which explain it through example...
    Thanks a lot

    Hi,
For standalone workflow, you need to look at the WFA_HTML package to change the code. I'm not sure that this is supported though.
You can change the logo by putting your new logo file in the path specified for images in the Apache configuration file for workflow. I believe that the file is called something like WFLOGO.gif but I'm not sure off the top of my head. If you replace it with your file, it should appear once you bounce Apache.
To be honest, you'd be better off writing your own screen for submission (either in Forms, JSP or mod PL/SQL), and use the standard screens for administration purposes. That would give you full flexibility over the design of the submission of a process, no support issues, plus users would have their own URL and administrators a completely separate one, to ensure that it is immediately clear which environment they are working in.

  • I have never used indesign to type in text on the spine of a book for submission as a book cover with the POD company Lightning Source. I would be so grateful if someone could tell me how to do this. This is the first time I have ever used a forum.

Help! How do I type in text on the spine of a book cover template in indesign?

    1. Determine the spine width first. Note that the spine width is relative to the thickness of the paper used for printing. For example, your book is of 300 pages, the spine thickness varies relative to paper thickness (say, 60gsm paper or 70gsm paper, or thicker art paper varieties). Get in touch with the Printer to give you a bound dummy (blank pages) with as many number of pages as your book has. Measure the spine manually from it. When you are more experienced, you would be able to calculate the thickness just by knowing the paper thickness (multiply by number of pages of the book).
    2. Create a spread to represent the back cover (left) and front cover (right). Increase the width of either the left page or right page, to make it exactly the width of book + spine width. Use guides to separate the spine from the cover design area. Type the spine matter and rotate the frames to fit to the spine. Rotation of frames should be in such a way that when the book is kept on table with its front cover on top, the spine text matters should be erect (not be upside down). On completion the whole design should have the bleed area on all four sides, left page as back cover, spine in the middle with rotated text frames, right page as front cover.
    OR
    3. You can also make the spine a separate page. Create a page exactly of the width of spine. Go to Pages panel fly-out and uncheck "allow document pages to shuffle". Arrange the three pages, the back cover the spine and the front cover in that order side by side in the pages panel (you can drag-drop the pages to make the 3 pages spread). Go to layout to make finishing touches.

  • How can I stop OSX from changing my keyboard layout

I have an English system, a French AZERTY keyboard (I live in France), and I work in five languages. I have three keyboard layouts installed, including French, of course (I use French numeric).
After a recent update, OSX suddenly started changing my input layout against my wishes. I have always set my preferences to use the same keyboard in all documents unless I manually change it - so please don't tell me about that feature, I know about it. It's not the problem.
It seems to want to revert to the system language (English) rather than the keyboard layout I've specified. I tried changing my interface language to French, and guess what? It wanted me to have the French keyboard layout!
If some Apple engineer decided we should automatically have the same keyboard layout as our system language - this is bad UX. Some of us touch type (and therefore are used to one keyboard layout) and need for it to stay put. Others use different layouts with different character sets (Arabic, Chinese, Hebrew, Cyrilic, etc.). Don't force me to have the "convenient" setting automatically with no override. If there is a way to get around this problem, please tell us. I've seen lots of complaints around about this phenomenon, but no solutions so far. Not from Apple, and not from anyone else, either.
    Thanks.

  • Changing iCal Print Layout

    Hi
When I print a calandar month, the month and year are top left on the paper so that when I hole-punch the page to stick in my filofax, the month has got a big hole in the middle.
Is there a way of changing the print layout so that I can move the month a bit towards the centre ?
Any suggestions very welcome. I hate it looking untidy !!

I've been battling the lack of a "Page Setup..." menu in iCal for several hours, even after reading the fix above. Some of my conclusions and a tip:
    1. It seems that iCal 'gathers' the paper/printer info when it starts up. It is therefore a waste of time to set these dimensions while iCal is still running/open.
    2. Any app that allows access to the "Page Setup..." menu can be used to create/modify a custom/existing choice.
    3. It may be better to set up a 'custom' setting using "Any Printer" rather than any specific printer you may have.
Perhaps the most important fact I discovered is that it is more important to set the paper dimensions than the actual margin numbers! iCal seems to prefer using a minimum margin setting regardless of what is defined in any "Page Setup..." item. But it will recognize and respect a slightly smaller page size and print within it. For example, my final success came when I re-defined the normal 8.5 x 11 inch paper as 8.25 x 10.75 inches! Just be sure to crate this as a custom, named setting so you can find and select it in iCal.
BTW, I have not attempted other 'standard' paper sizes, just the 'full-size' version.
Anyone have an idea why iCal ignore the GUI standards?! Or is simply another attempt at 'integrating' all apps; like using Safari to tell the OS to use another browser? What happened to Apple's 'user friendliness' mantra?

  • How do I change the cover photo of an album in the Photos App?

    Hi,
in iPhoto you can change the cover art of an album or journal (but apparently not of a shared photo stream?!).
But how do I change the cover photo of a shared photo stream I created in the iOS 6 Photos app? It seems to be the first photo in that stream but I want to use another photo as the cover / key photo of that shared stream. Is it possible at all?
    Thanks,
    Stefan.

Which iPhoto are you referring to?  iPhoto on your mobile device or iPhoto on your Mac?  If on your Mac you'll need to change the date of the photos in the Event via the Photos ➙ Batch Change ➙ Date menu option:
This will change the date of all selected photos in the Event and thus change the date range of the Event.
Or you can use the Photos ➙ Adjust Date & Time menu option and change just one or two photos which can also change the date range of the Event.

  • Attaching a thumbnail to a book cover for my eBook

My gear: Windows Vista Ultimate, 64-bit.
My objective: Attach a thumbnail version of my eBook cover to my eBook book cover, so the Adobe Digital Edition version will look cool.
What I've done: With distiller set to eBooks, I've created the PDF book cover and the thumbnail, using Ifan and OpenOffice.
Result: I'm stuck. My cover is in PDF/A mode. I can't attach.
You probably already can tell I'm a noob. However, what I have done to solve this problem, follows:
1.I closed Adobe Acrobat 9 Standard.
2.Opened my Window folder, so I'd have my PDF thumb and PDF full size cover before me. I minimized this window.
3.I opened my beloved Adobe Acrobat 9 Standard.
4.I selected File>Combine>Assemble. I got a blank screen. It says 'Home/ in the upper left hand corner. I call this Window A. I size Window A so it fits the left hand side of the desktop.
5.I brought up the minimized window. I call it Window B. I sized Window B to it fits the right hand side of my desktop.
6.I dragged my PDF book cover file, still in PDF/A mode, from Window B, to Window A.
    7.In Window A: I selected File>Combine>Merge Files. I'm 'merging' a single file into a single PDF.
    8. A window appears. It says: File Portfolio1.pdf is a PDF portfolio that contains multiple files. The files within the PDF portfolio have been added to the file list. I clicked OK.
9.Now I'm in a window titled Combine Files. Single PDF is selected. A red X is in the Remove square, bottom of this window. My PDF/A book cover file is the only file in the list.
10.I selected my file just to highlight it.
    11.I selected Combine Files.
12.A save as window opens. I renamed my book cover to Book Cover not in PDF A mode
13.Now, my non-PDF/A Book cover opens in Adobe Acrobat 9 Standard.
14.In the lower left hand corner of my Adobe 9 window, I right click the comments icon, and select Attachments.
15.I select Add a new attachment.
16.My PDF files come up (they would not come up in PDF/A mode), and I select my thumbnail PDF. It attaches.
    17.Yay. I'm done.
If there's a quicky professional way to do this, please add to this thread, so I may learn from my mistakes.

    Hellow Johannes,
    thank you for your repling.
i don"t think that this is the direction.

I think that the answer should be close to the table SOOD.

Oh, and this may help for color codes
    http://html-color-codes.com/rgb.html
And I guess I didn't really explain. Right click the property node, choose link to slider. Then left click and choose fill color. You may also want to use an event instead of a case structure, the event being the value switching between >number and <number. That way if it is already above or below whatever number you chose, it wont write to the property node every time the loop itterates.

  • Address book - labels layout - other formats

    Hello Forum
Does anyone know of a collection of other layouts for the address book label layouts. At the moment I only see Avery std, Avery A4 and DYMO.
There's a whole set of labels of other label makers eg DECAdry that I don't find in the list. Nor do I know of (or find) a site that maps DECAdry on Avery equivalents.
I can of course simply add it as custom layout but I was wondering if there were other alternatives?
