Change icons in GNOME top panel

Does anyone know how to change the icons individually in the top panel in GNOME? Right now I set the icon theme to Ultra Flat Icons, but for reasons unknown it made the icons in the top panel really ugly.
Is it possible to change them?

Icons in GNOME top panel

Hi,
I am looking to change my icon setup in the GNOME top panel. Right now I just have the volume-and-battery-combined, and clicking on it I have more or less all the options in one box.
Does anyone know if it is possible to separate the icons, so I have one for sound, one icon for battery, one for logout/power off, etc.? Kind of like the way ubuntu has it, to make a comparison.

Gnome Top Panel status area don't have icon

Gnome Topicons changing icon size

I am using the extension topicons to display tray icons in the top panel.
Yet the size of the icons is too big for my taste. Can they be reduced?

They could. It would be pretty simple if the extension made use of a CSS stylesheet as most gnome shell extensions do, but I'm seeing it doesn't have any. I just installed it for testing purposes, but did not even work.
Ask developer to implement a CSS: leave a comment on the site you just provided or look for developer's email, which should be written down in the metadata.json file inside the extension folder. You should be able to find that under ~/.local/share/gnome-shell/extensions if you installed via website. Or ultimately, make your own stylesheet.css if you know the code internals (I really don't), and append it to the extension folder. It should not be very difficult since the main program (extension.js) is very short as it is now. Maybe someone else could help you write the css in less than a couple minutes.

[SOLVED] Active application icon is missed in top panel. Gnome 3.4.

Since i've updated the system today, i see that the icon of the active application, which used to be shown in the top panel, has been disappeared. I use gnome 3.4 from Extra, zukitwo theme and Faenza icon theme from AUR.

I deliberately removed that from the shell theme. My plan was to remove the entire thing because I find it useless, but in the end I thought a bit of typography there wasn't such a bad thing. The icon however I find hideous looking. To get the icon back you can open the gnome-shell.css file in Zukitwo-Shell/gnome-shell/ and remove height and width from this:

width: 0px;
Also change this to 24px instead of 0.

Can't change icon's theme on my kde 11.3 panel

Hi folks. I set AG-Plasma Icon for my panel but apper icon, the digital clock and the little button that shows hidden icons are stucked on the previous theme... This pic should explain quite well the problem. I've already empty /var/tmp/kdecache-myname/ but still doesn't work.. and I haven't anymore ideas..
and... Is it possible showing awoken icons on the kde panel instead of AG-plasma ones? If yes, how?

Yes. The theme changes that way but not the icons. I have a theme installed with gnome-art-ng and I also changed theme your way but when trying to do that with an icon-theme doesn't change anything. How can I do it in a way that creates a log or some kind of output?
I have tried with 4 or 5 different iconthemes. No difference.

I was wondering how to change the order for the icons at the top of the screen. I selected the option of not showing the battery status bar in the energy saver section. However, when I decided to add it back to the top, the order changed. This may sound strange but is there any way to get it back in the correct order.

You cannot directly. If you have a jFrame (e.g.) with your own icon you can use one of the JDialog costructors using (Component owner, ... ). Then the dialog will display the same icon.

Gtk-recordmydesktop doesn't record gnome-shell top panel

I want to record my whole desktop for a video . but gtk-recordmydesktop is not recording gnome-shell top panel for an unknown reason.(I have to use gtk-recordmydesktop because gnome-shell's inbuilt recording is very slow.) someone please help!

Change icon image

I was wanting to use one of my images as a folder icon, and found that most of my photos have a frame around them, and have the generic Preview icon for their image (in the Get Info panel).
I found one with the actual image as its icon in the Get Info panel, and no frame.
This is what I mean:

I think the difference in the two Finder displays is that the image file without the frame has its own "custom icon" and the other image file does not. Some graphics programs create such custom icons when saving files. When there is no custom icon the system will construct an "icon preview" on the fly provided you have also checked the "show icon preview" box in View Options (command-J) for the folder window containing the image fie. The on-the-fly preview icons have the surrounding frame.
It's possible to add true custom icons to an image file that doesn't have one, but since your real goal is to create a custom folder icon from an image file, I don't think you need this intermediate step. To use an image file that doesn't have a custom icon, open it in Preview and from there press Command-A (select all) and then Command-C (copy). Then Get Info on the folder whose display icon you want to change, click on the little icon at the top left of the folder's Get Info window, and press Command-V (paste).

Short cut change icon is disabled and icons are generic

(I am not sure if this is correct forum, I don't know if this is for Visual Studio Setup Installation projects or for Installing Visual Studio itself)
I've created a Setup/Installation project for a WPF .NET 4.5.2 application and everything works fine with the exception of the program Icons.
After I run the Setup - the short cut on the Desktop and Start menu (Win 7 and Win 8.1) shows generic Icon and when I right click and select properties the Open File Location and the Change Icon buttons are disabled, but if I click on the short cut it runs
the program.
In the Setup project I specified which icon to use from the exe program and I even added an icon do the project and pointed to this icon, but the icons still show up as generic.
Any advise on how to fix this?

From the answer, we could show up the desired icon in the following way.
right-click on the Deployment Project
pick menu item View > File System
in the File System window, find the shortuct whose icon you want to change (for example, under "Users's Programs Menu")
go to the shortcut Properties (right-click and pick "Properties Window")
go to Icon
Browse...
change "Files of type" to *.exe
browse to and select your "primary output"
OK, OK
And you could also change the icon in the Control Panel's "Add or Remove Programs" list.

How change icon of a Hard Drive?

I just bought an external Seagate HD for my iMac Intel and I'm running OSX 10.6.8.
I'm trying to change the icon to something more catchy than that bore yellow looking drive with the USB icon on it.
I used to be able to do this hitting CMD+I on both the image I was copying from and the HD I was going to paste it to...
Until now,
It won't allow me to change the icon.
First, when I hit CMD+I on the image I wanna copy, it does not show the picture or the icon. It just looks like a little document.
Can anyone help me figure this out?

the way you change your hard dirve icon is:
first, you need to be the admin of the computer.
then, you click on the hard drive icon, the press <apple> (which is "get info")
at the top of the "get info" box is a small icon of the folder. you will use that later.
then, you select any icons you have, such as one's downloaded from the internet, for example, www.appple.com/downloads/macosx
if you want to use a picture for your icon, simply open the pic on preview, press <apple> <c> (copy) and then go to the "get info" window. you click on the small icon at the top of the window, and a small blue border appears arround it. thats good. then, press <apple> <v> (paste)
it is really simple to change your icon for your hard disk, you do not need any shareware or "ask dave."

I can't click on the icons at the top of a site. What's causing this?

I have firefox and it's having a strange problem today. When I'm on facebook, I can't click on the icons at the top. I can't click the message, friend request, notifications, home, profile icons and can't click the one that allows you to sign out. So i can't even sign out. What I mean by can't click is when I put the cursor over those icons, it doesn't change into the finger. When I left click it anyway, nothing happens. This doesn't happen in internet explorer, but I want to keep using firefox. What's causing this? I also noticed that this doesn't just happen on facebook. I've uninstalled and reinstalled firefox. I restarted the PC. It didn't help.

The Yahoo! Toolbar extension has been reported to cause this issue.

Icon size in Favorites panel changeable?

I'm using CS2 Bridge (1.0.4.6), a couple of steps out of date, and trying to make use of the Favorites panel. I understand how to get things into it (I'm dragging pictures to it) and out of it (only one item at a time, ASFAIK). The icon that goes with the file name is so small as to be pretty much unusable, and I'm left with a lot of file names like _DSCxxxx.jpg which is useless. Is there any way to change the icon size in this panel?
Click once opens the file immediately in PS, option click does nothing, ctl-click gives the remove/reveal choice.
Are newer versions of Bridge better in this regard?

I had missed that earlier. The icons I was referring to in my previous post:

I have never, ever put anything other than folders there, and it never occurred to me that anyone else would. Obviously, I was wrong.

Lumia 900 - Updated to 7.8 - can't change icon siz...

After updating my Lumia 900 phone to 7.8, I don't see the second icon in the lower right to change the size of the icons? Am I missing a setting or something? I click and hold down an icon, but I only see the unpin icon in the top right.

Your Nokia Lumia 900 was updated to 7.5 CR3 (Tango). The 7.8 update has not yet been released. It is still under development and destined for release later this year.
You can check your version number under Settings > About.
