Changes to Master Data

Hi All
Which are the things need to be considered while choosing between following two options to transfer the changes to the master data from R/3 to APO.
1.Transfer of Data Changes Using ALE Change Pointers
2. Online Transfer Using Business Transfer Events (BTEs)
Rather what are the pros and cons of above two methods?

Hi Pravin,
1) When you are using change pointers for master data transfer, some defined frequency to be set for integration model generation jobs. You need to ensure that the change pointers are transferred and updated to the target system for all relevant planning elements either manually or through by setting up background jobs in system (c5 transaction). If change pointers did not update properly, system performance will get affected. For the elements, where change is not required, those entities has to be deleted by deleting the change pointer entries corresponding to that.
2) In BTE, you create areas with the same naming conventions. These guarantee that the same names are used for master data, and also their synchronization in distributed system landscapes.
Here we determine the assignment to a business system group of the APO System and the SAP R/3 System to be connected.

What bapi or FM can create/change vendor master data?

We want to do a rfc to create/change vendor master data .If use BDC,the change function is very very complex,but i can't find any BAPI/FM in sap!

Is it possible to change a master data key ?

Hi Experts,
i'd like to know if it is possible in any way to change/update the key of a master data table.
Reason: All of our projects have a certain nomenclature. Now I realized one project that does not follow that nomenclature and would like to change it accordingly (0PROJECT -> /BI0/PPROJECT).
The connection to the cubes is through SIDs, therefore I cannot remove the current record in the master data table and create a new (the correct) one.
I also cannot reload the cube after I possibly had changed the master data table.
For me, the simpliest would be to just update the key portion in /Bi0/PPROJECT and I think modern database systems would allow this (we are running BI on top of DB2), but may be I'm wrong.
I tried the update in the maintenance dialog in RSA1. Stupid enough it allows me to change the key and even the subsequent Save would work. However, by opening the table afterwards again, the old (worng) values are displayed again.
Would someone know how this could work ?

Are you trying to change the value of a master data key for a particular record in the P table?
if this is your requirement, then the answer is NO. i don't think so..changing it manually doesn't help you.
I suggest you to load the same record from your source system with new master data key value and all other attributes with the same data as the old record.
Now you will have two records in your P table( one with the old value and another with the new one)
There is no harm in having the old record in your P table...deleting of any master data is risky and not appreciable ( but possible)
You need to use this new master key value in your transaction loads which will intrun connect to the master data using SIDs
By using the new value in your transaction loads, the old one will not visible in any of your reports...but will just sit in the P table with no use, which is still fine for you.
However, to laod this new value (in both master and transaction data) you need to get in touch with the functional team.
Modifying the data manually in BI/BW ( Unless there is an invalid data from source to PSA) will lead to inconsistencies and reconciliation issues. - NOT Advisable

ECATT: Failure of eCATT Scripts Due To Changed Configuration & Master Data

Hello,
=> I am using eCATT mainly for the configuration testing. And with the changes in configuration, field sequences as well as changes in screen sequences were observed which were not there during recording time. So all the affected scripts failed.
Again, with the change in master data, which caused extra screen sequences or Messages which were not there during recording time caused the eCATT scripts failure.
As the same server can be used by different projects where the configuration or mainly the master data will keep on changing, how to ensure the success of eCATT scripts.
=> The target system during recording time was different and at the time of execution is different. So both are maintained in the system data container.
Due to some reason, the recording time target system was removed from the system data container. And new target system was specified at execution time. Scripts failed saying that target system of recording time doesn't exist in system data container. This problem was sorted out by adding again the recording time target system in system data container.
What if the server of recording time is not there physically during execution time? Will the eCATT scripts fail as earlier?
If so then how to workout the situation as the number of scripts are too large to change the target system in script itself.

Please check, if there is really no usage of the "old" target system name anymore. Potential usage could be at some commands or at some command interfaces of disabled commands (meaning "commented" commands).
If you can not find the usage of your old target system which leads to the problem and if you require a solution for that open a sap support ticket.
I think, the whole target system control was also improved from WAS 6.20 to WAS 6.40.

Use T.Code XD02.
Enter Customer No,Company code,Sales Org, Distribution channel and division and press Enter or
Enter Customer no,company code and click on customer's sales area, you will see Sales Org, Distribution channel and division,select the Sales org,Sales Org, Distribution channel and division and press enter.
You can make necessary changes to customer master

i want to capture change in master data .whenever a change happen to required field in customer master an idoc should be create for that and the entry should e made in table CDHDR and CDPOS.

Tables / Functions:
The change pointers are stored in tables BDCP and BDCPS.
With release ECC 6.0 SAP delivered a new table BDCP2 for increased performance. Which table shall be used is defined in transaction BD50 (see below). There is a function to migrate “old” change pointers to the new table.
The function group BD01 contains function modules for reading and updating the new change pointers in table BDCP2.

Prerequisites:
There has to exist a Change Document Object (CDO) for the SAP-object we change. For standard objects like material masters, vendors or customers these objects already exist. For own business objects we have to define a change document object with transaction SCDO .
In the corresponding data element for the database field the flag „Change document“ has to be active. check the details in the transaction
The usage of change pointers has to be actived generally for the system

Change of Master Data after compounding addition

Hi,
I have changed one info object, changes are mentioned as below:
Activated it as master data
Added one compounding attribute
This info object is already being used in various data targets in production environment which holds data.
Now what shall be the steps in case we transport this change to the production environment.
The only solution i can think right now is to delete the data from existing data targets and reload the data
Could you please suggest if there is any alternate approach to it through which i need not to delete data.

If you want to Add compounding to the existing MD -
-Delete TD data where it is being used
-Delete MD
-Make sure all the SIDs has been deleted
Add compounding to the MD and reactivate flow before and upwards(TR , DTP ..etc)
Before transport .. perform all the above actions in target sys and do transport
If you want to add new IOs as NAv to the existing MD
-ADD - Activate - transport!!

Web report data provider change from Master data table to InfoCube

hi Experts,
I have created one report on top of multiprovider but in the selection screen when i check the values for a variable I came to know that data is coming from master data table and not from data provider(InfoCube).Can any one help to change the data selection from master data table to data provider(InfoCube) and i am sure that there is no ODS involved in the multiprovider.

If u are using Analyser then just put a Analysis Grid on the output of the query(should cover all the rows and column) , click on the grid and put the dataprovider. and do auto fit.

BAPI for Changing Applicant Master Data

Hi,
We are trying to access our SAP R/3 remotely for the creation and
maintenence of Applicant Master Data. We were able to identify the BAPI
"BAPI_applicant_create" for the creation of an applicant but are unable
to determine the BAPI required to maintain / change applicant data. Can
you please assist us in this regard.

I believe since there is no BAPI available so we could use the FM. And as far it being not remote enabled, i think thats not a major problem, we can always make a copy of it and make it remote enabled.
If anyone has any other option in mind, please do share.

Tracking history of changes of master data

If there are changes to the following data fields to the transaction XD01 and VD01:
Industry - KNA1-BRSCH
Industry Code 1- KNA1- BRAN1
Annual Sales
of Employees
Regional Market - KNA1-RPMKR
CustGroup 1-10
Is the system tracking the history and current data for them? That is does the system track something similar to the following in a transparent table somewhere:
Customer___From_____To________Regional Market
111___01.01.2000__12.31.2005____R100
111___01.01.2006__01.01.2007____R105
111___01.02.2007__12.31.9999____R111
Etc.

System do track changes in the master data.
Go to VD02 or XD02, then go to Environment > Account changes>All Fields.
You will get the changes done, if any.
Also you can check in transaction OV51.

LSMW change article master data

Dear All,
As I am new in Retail, i need to know detail steps how to perform LSWM (IDOC method) to change material master (MM42)
providing that needed fields are article code - vendor - purchase organization .. and the field to be changed is tax code located in purchasing view.
Or there is another method to mass change for these materials.

You have multiple options of how to create an LSMW project to maintain Article Master data within SAP.
You can use the IDOC method using message type ARTMAS Basic Type ARTMAS05, you can use standard input or direct input with object 020 Article Master Method 0000 - program RMDATIND and even BAPI with BUS1001001 Retail article
What you will need to do is work through each of the process steps within after defining the object attributes which include defining the source structure and fields (i.e. you flag file structure) and mapping the source structure fields to the target structure (I.E. IDoc fields) and then specifying the location of the flat file.

Option to change WBS master data

Hi,
Our Client has customized program to upload WBS master data.At present when we upload & create, WBS elements are getting locked (AALK) automatically.
But Client don't want this to happen. They want as & when they use upload program or change the WBS master data, there should be option with "AALK" or without "AALK".
Can this happen?Any points on this will be highly apperciated.

Attr Change Run Master Data Infoobject PChain

In the master data process chain process type Attribute Change Run which is usually at the end of the chain updates the changes in the master data infoobjects.
The Chain is usually designed with full infopacks and say if it is scheduled every night , isn't it loading the master data again ( duplicating ) and again even though considering the process type Attribute Change Run at the end.
Is it like just the attribute change run is executed for updates ?If thats the case why do we need a process chain for Masterdata...if its only one time full ..that can be done manually right?
Am I missing something here ...?

If you look at the detail in the Monitor for a Master Data load, it will tell you how many recordssent from R/3 and how many records were updated and inserted.
As far as static master data that deos not regularly have new records or changes - you're right you don't need to load those objects daily, they could be loaded perhaps monthly.
You might consider balancing how fancy you try to get with breaking up master data into different groups, loading some daily, and other sweekly, others monthly, etc. In our case we use to have a fairly elaborate master data load schedule, loading someobjects 1st Tuesday of the month, others 2nd, Tues, others 3rd etc, and then we had weekly loads and dailys. When I began to review the run times involved, it was apparent that the various monthly loads, in total, ran less than 10 minutes, so I just consolidated the 4 differently monthly maser data loads and the weekly loads all into a single process chain. While much of the this master data doesn't change much, it was much easier to just schdule mastr data either daily or weekly, rather than getting too elaborate.
Now if run time of master data loads or change runs sarts to become an issue, then you might have to adopt a more elaborate schedule. It really depends on your environment.
