Changing a project into a blue folder

I want to change my organization--I want to change projects into blue folders instead, but Aperture will not allow me to drag photos from a project to a blue folder in order to turn the project into a folder. How do I do this? I am new to Aperture and am afraid this is probably a very stupid question. Thanks.

Welcome to the forum
You can't.
All images MUST reside inside a project and may only reside in one project. You can place projects into folders though.

• Lost project due tomorrow: blue folder, no images

I have a project almost completed. I just needed to drop in the audio. It is due tomorrow.
I turned on iMovie 08 this morning and saw no project, only 2 blue folders. A first level folder said, "St" (my project was "St. john's"), and the nested folder said, "Quicklook." But both are empty and my photos (all with Ken Burns effect applied. Approx. 75-100 photos.
Never had one problem with iMovie 08 before this. Never.
Does anyone have any ideas? Please!!

marie2boyer,
I think that your mac friend is right. I came to the same conclusion, & have overcome the problem.
I first tried to rename the project without the punctuation, but it didn't work.
Below describes what did work:
I created a new folder in the same location as the original project file (finder/movies/iMovie Projects) and named it something similar (and making sure there were no punctuation, brackets etc) I then open the main corrupted blue folder & dragged all of the contents into the new folder. Then & only then (this is important) rename the extension of the new folder to .rcproject. Double click on the new folder OR right click and click on 'open with'.
It worked for me & saved lots of hours of re-work.
If the file is still corrupted you could try the contents of a backup copy.
I hope this helps. Even if it is too late on this occasion, it might be handy in the future should this happen to someone else or happen again. I also suspect that the punctuation was the problem & I too won't be doing it again.
Thank you for your time & your reply.

• Change Encore Project into a adobe air desktop application with password

Good afternoon,
I am trying to find a a way that i can change or inport a Encore project into a adobe air desktop application so that a can password protect it. I have a training simulator built in Encore that has a large number of menus and videos that i would like to tern into a tesk top application that i can password protect. Encore out puts this as a swf file. Is there any way to do this? I have bin looking around an the web and can't seem to find any information on this kind of problem. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Many thanks,
Justin

Hi Justin,
ok, assuming that your external SWF tries to access some hosting application context (methods/properties) you could try:
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>
<s:WindowedApplication xmlns:fx="http://ns.adobe.com/mxml/2009"
xmlns:s="library://ns.adobe.com/flex/spark"
xmlns:mx="library://ns.adobe.com/flex/mx"
applicationComplete="applicationCompleteHandler(event)">
<fx:Script>
<![CDATA[
import mx.controls.Alert;
import mx.events.FlexEvent;
private var loader:URLLoader = null;
protected function applicationCompleteHandler(event:FlexEvent):void
loader = new URLLoader();
loader.dataFormat = URLLoaderDataFormat.BINARY;
var url:String = "MyApplication.swf";
loader.load(new URLRequest(url));
loader.addEventListener(Event.COMPLETE, loaderCompleteHandler);
loader.addEventListener(IOErrorEvent.IO_ERROR, loaderErrorHandler);
protected function loaderCompleteHandler(event:Event):void
// allow cross-scripting in case loaded content tries to access
// that context properties or methods
var context:LoaderContext = new LoaderContext();
context.allowCodeImport = true;
swfLoader.loaderContext = context;
swfLoader.load(loader.data);
cleanup();
protected function loaderErrorHandler(errorEvent:IOErrorEvent):void
mx.controls.Alert.show(errorEvent.text, "ERROR");
cleanup();
private function cleanup():void
loader.removeEventListener(Event.COMPLETE, loaderCompleteHandler);
loader.removeEventListener(IOErrorEvent.IO_ERROR, loaderErrorHandler);
loader = null;
]]>
</fx:Script>
<!-- ui -->
<s:SWFLoader width="100%" height="100%" id="swfLoader"/>
<!-- -->
</s:WindowedApplication>
See that doc for some details "allowCodeImport":
http://www.adobe.com/devnet/flashplayer/articles/fplayer10_1_air2_security_changes.html
note: I'm not sure if that would 100% work. I don't know what Encore authored .swf really do, for that you could ask on Encore forum:

• Photos disappear when moving a project into a folder

If I move a project into a subfolder, the images from that project no longer appear in the browser of thumbnail viewer. If I hover my mouse over the project, it shows the correct number of versions in that project, but for whatever reason, Aperture is unable to display those images until a reboot of the program. Has anyone else experienced this?

Hi all
I too have had the same issue but seem to have found a way around it...it might work for you too. Its really simple!!! Ive tried troubleshooting etc but non of that has worked. Ill explain my problem first.
I drag a project into a new folder and the images disappear although when holding mouse over project it still tells me how many versions are there (the photos have not been deleted, aperture is just not seeing them - a glitch perhaps?
I then go into projects and find that particular one. The images appear there as thumbnails but when double clicking into that project they still are not there.
THE FIX - I simply drag that project over any other one and merge them. Then I hit undo (ctr z). Then presto they are back. I go into that project again and they are all there. Took me bloody ages to figure that out but its an easy fix and one I can live with.

• Issue when loading a FB4.x Project into FB4.5.1

Hello,
after updating to 4.5.1 I had to work again on a Project which I have created with FB4
I have just created a new workspace and copied my project into that new folder and imported it.
But when I load it once I switch to design wie FB CRASH!
The Project is modular, but building the workspace takes ages, how could this be considered a professional IDE ?
I have even tried to increase the heap size (maximum which works is still 512 MB what a shame !)
Are there any plans to create a more reliable version of FB ? Maybe based on IntellyJ which is a real Native app instead of a Java app as eclipse is ?
How can I open my project now ?

Ok i reinstalled FB 4.5.1 and imported my only projects successfully.
But anyways , building the Workspace with just one project inside it takes so long WHY? FB4.5.1 is continiously consuming 25% CPU of my q9550 !

i mentioned youtube, since i have found fcpx to be unresponsive at times when it's doing loads of work
i assumed this may be the problem when i've tried to drag the project into the sub folder
just tried now. this isnt the case. it's still unresponsive
when i drag the project up or down, nothing happens
i managed to get the folders to start moving when i dragged up - not sure what i did

• Aperture 3 why can't i drag projects into folder

Hi. Im using aperture 3.4.3 and I can't i drag projects into folder. Why is this? Help!

Projects can only go into folders that are not under other projects. So for example
Library
folder
project
is OK
but
Library
project
folder
project
Is not OK (the last project won;t go)
So if you create a folder at the top level can you drag a project into it?

• What do you do if all your music disappears into the Other folder......dreaded orange bar!

Hope this will help someone as there is clearly not much help from Apple nor this forum.
I am on vacation away from my home computer where my iTunes is. I turned on my iPod and scrolled down to Music and it showed "No Music." Went to "About" and saw that there were only 9GB of free space, so I felt for sure it was there because that's right at what I had when I last synced it, which was a couple days ago and it finished syncing with no problems. Went to the next "About" screen where you can see how much Audio, Video etc. etc. you have and it showed 0 Audio and The "Other" category had all the data in it. What happened to my music, and can I get it back on vacation without my iTunes on my computer at home? I tried the holding down of the Select middle button and the Menu button until the Apple logo appeared but that did not restore any Audio. Hope someone can help me out here.....Thanks
Re: Ipod Classic 160GB having issues, need help please?
Oct 25, 2011 5:06 AM (in response to Fishead)
Solved my issue and thought I might do someone a favor by posting the answer. If you wind up with NO MUSIC and find all your audio files have been synced into the OTHER folder on your iPod such as what happened to me, AND if you happen to be unlucky enough not to have access to your computer where your iTunes program would allow you to re-sync your iPod, here's what worked for me in a Windows7 OS.
1.You will have to find a computer that has enough storage to hold the amount of information stored on your iPod. In my case, 139GB!!! Download iTunes if it is not already on the system, or if it is, update to the latest software.
2. Plug your iPod into one of the USB ports.
3. Open iTunes if it does not open itself.
4. Select your iPod from the menu on the left and you should get a message that iTunes cannot read the iPod. Simply close that box. If you get a message that syncing your iPod will erase all content then decline the sync.
5. Open Computer and you should see your iPod as an external hard drive.
6. Open it and you will see some folders and a few files. The folders will likely look like they are a washed-out yellow instead of a deep yellow like you're accustomed to seeing. That threw me initially because as I was looking for the folder with @ 139GB, it was not there. Right click each folder, go to Properties and check the "Show hidden files" in the View menu. After that, the folders will appear dark yellow and as you hover over each one, you will see one that will have the full amount of data that was on your iPod before the mess started. Open that folder and you will see a bunch of other folders with strange names, like F00, F01 etc. etc. Do the Edit, Select All, right click and in Properties, View menu, check the Show Hidden Files again. All the folders that were that light yellow color will now turn deep yellow. Be sure to select show hidden files not only for the folder but all sub folders and files box that will come up....forgot to mention that earlier. Now all your folders and the files in them will be readable by iTunes.
7. The folders will all still be selected. If not, select them and then do either a copy/paste into iTunes Music Library or drag them over into that pane. The process will begin and likely take quite a while. In my case, several hours. When it is done, you will see all your music in iTunes along with the album art if you had any.
8. Now you will need to sync your iPod to that library, but before you do, you will need to Restore it. Simply select it from the left menu and click on the Restore iPod option. That will only take a few minutes and it will wipe your iPod clean. Before you do that, it is a good idea to MAKE SURE YOUR MUSIC IS ALL THERE!!! I also went to about a half dozen of the albums and tried playing a few songs just to be double sure. Proceed with the Restore, and when it is complete change the iPod name that will be in the small box on the same page as the Restore option and likely be something like"karens iPod" (whoever the computer belongs to will be the name there) to exactly what your iPod is called on your iTunes on your computer that it was originally synced to. I found that before I did this, it would not sync.
9. When you hit Sync, be patient because it took a minute or so before it actually began to sync. Then, it will be another few hours if you have as much music as I did for the sync to complete and depending on the speed of the computer you're using.
That's how I got all my music back and I am now a happy camper/listener again.,
I called Apple support and they were absolutely no help. Just told me I would have to re-sync to my iTunes even though I kept telling them that was 1,650 miles away at my house and not going to be possible. I even asked if the above process would work and they said they didn't know but "You could try it....." :-( At that time, I didn't have access to a computer with enough hard disc space on it yet so I called the Apple store in Louisville, KY which was 65 miles from where I was hoping that they might be able to help. After 2 calls and getting hung up in the same loop of menus that left me on hold for over 20 minutes long distance, I gave up and concluded that Apple and Support are two mutually exclusive terms and have no relationship to one another. This has been quite a nightmare, and if anything good has come of it aside from having my music back, it might be the learning process but I really feel that is a rather small reward for the time spent!
Not likely to be an Apple fan when considering my next purchase of home computer, laptop, nor the phone I am preparing to buy.
Hope this has helped someone.

I never throw anything away up to a point when it has become silly and then I have a cull. (This applies to the loft, the garage and the hard disk)
I always have (at least) two backups to external drives and by the end of a project also have a full backup to DVD.
I am a hobby photographer, so this isn't necessarily a good professional workflow!
I store work in progress within a folder structure that identifies just what it is, final folder being date stamped for the start date (eg D:\My Pictures\Photgraph Album Master\Family\Bob\20100715 Farnborough airshow)
Photographs of value are then kept within the folder with a date stamp and version number if they change within a day (eg 20100823 Alexander in cockpit 2).
Photographs I haven't touched remain with their camera-specified name.
Lightroom, which I use, doesn't know about external drives or DVD backups. (Maybe it should, but it would become confusing)

• Embed one project into another (nesting)

One feature that I would love to have in a slide show software is the ability to embed one project into another. Is this a feature of Keynote?
Here is where it would be handy:
I was in a band an we needed to put all of the lyrics for our original songs up on the big screen when we were playing. Neither or "set list" nor order was finalized, but was going to be 10 songs out of a possible 15. We wouldn't know until only minutes before going on. Since I play bass and had to be on stage, I had to have it simple enough for a 12 year old kid to run the presentation.
I could figure no way that I could possibly cut and paste and remove all the slides into the correct order right before going on stage. I worried about this for 2 days and figured out what to do.
I used Adobe Indesign and set each song up as it's own file. Then using InDesign's build book feature, I linked all the files into a book file. 5 minutes before the show, I resorted the chapters in the book file, and exported to PDF. I ran the PDF in full screen mode and the 12 year old girl just sat there and hit the spacebar for our songs. It worked perfectly.
Is there a way that I can do separate projects in Keynote and assemble them quickly like I did with InDesign and Acrobat?
Thanks,
Kirk

OK, if you don't want them all in the same Keynote file so you can hyperlink around the file to the desired slide numbers, then try this.
Create your Keynote of a song. Name it easily so you can find it easily. At the end of each song keynote, put a "Return to Index" and hyperlink it to the Keynote with the program. On the program slide you can Name the songs, Song 1, Song 2, Song 3, and Song 4. Of course, you can enter the name of the song in the program slide. If you use the generic name the process of creating the hyperlink is an easy one (it's even easy if you enter the name of the song you want). If you keep all song Keynotes in the same folder with the index, it's a matter of selecting the file title as the Keynote slideshow to hyperlink to. So you can change the four songs in a program presentation in about 2 minutes max. so you get:
File name: Agenda
Modern Church of God
Sunday, October 10, 2010
Reverent I M. Religious, presiding
10:30 am
Call to order
Song 1 (hyperlink to "Rock of Ages")
Processional
Prayer
Song 2 (hyperlink to "Bringing in the Sheaves")
Announcements
Reading
Song 2 (hyperlink to "Ave Maria")
Sermon, "How do we maximize our resources."
Song 3 ((hyperlink to "Jesus Loves Me")
Digressional
Song 4 (Oh, What I friend we have in Jesus)
At the end of the Rock of Ages lyrics Place
"Return to Program" and hyperlink to "Agenda"
For the next week, "Agenda 10/17" Change the hyperlinks for songs to the new selection of keynotes you have created earlier. It will take about a minute or two to make the changes. You do each one by clicking the Enable hyperlink selection box when one of the song references is selected. The pull the pull down menu to Keynote Slideshow. A box will open. Go to your folder with all song and agenda files. Select the song keynote you want to access with the click, when you select the song file and click "Open" your connection is made. You then project the agenda file on Sunday morning. When you reach song 1, you click on it and the song's keynote comes up. When the song is finished, click on Return to Program and your program Keynote is back up.
The only time consumer in this process is entering the song lyrics into their own keynote files. If you have somewhere to copy and paste the words, then it's easy. The mechanics of creating the weekly connection is very easy. Once you have your resources created, preparation time for a Sunday program will be only a long as it takes you to enter the planned agenda components.

• Running "Build 'em All" example Xcode project wiped out MediaCore folder

I'm having a hard time setting up Xcode to properly compile the example code into a debug product build that eventually ends up in the MediaCore folder.
I initially got it to work simply by clicking the 'Run' button on the 'Skeleton' and 'Checkout' projects.
Then I decided to just build them all, and pressed 'Run' while I had the 'Buildall' selected. Seemed like everything ran okay, but then AE was starting to act buggy. Told me Quicktime wasn't installed, etc. I noticed that all my plugins were missing, and sure enough the entire MediaCore folder seemed to be overwritten. Do I have to re-install AE and all my plugins to get those back?
Most importantly, though, is why did running the 'Buildall' project wipe out the folder of everything?
I read this in the SDK guide:
We’ve combined the sample projects into a single master project, stored in the Examples folder of the SDK. For Mac OS, it is Buildall.xcodeproj; for Windows, it is BuildAll.sln.
In your IDE, you’ll need to change the output folder of your project to build into After Effects’ plug-in folder. For development, we recommend using the following path for Mac
OS: /Library/Application Support/Adobe/Common/Plug-ins/[CS version]/MediaCore/
for example: /Library/Application Support/Adobe/Common/Plug-ins/CS6/MediaCore/
So, I set absolute paths for the build location in my project settings dialog, in the locations tab. I placed 'intermiediates' in a different folder from 'products'.
I just need to know they best way to configure Xcode 4.5 to output the example projects in the correct manner. I'm afraid I'm going to have to reinstall the plugins.
Thanks!
Removed incorrect image.

hi Lazlo Hollyfeld! welcome to the dark side... :-)
set to build directory to any folder you like (i created a nice folder called "build64"),
then just put a shortcut from AE's "blug-ins" folder to you build folder.
yes, AE does shortcuts.
leave media core alone...

• Impoting Jdeveloper project into Eclipse 4.7 juno

can i impot Jdeveloper project into Eclipse 4.7 juno????please help me.

You can manually configure a JDeveloper project to use in Eclipse. The process depends on the type of project and technologies being used.
Is it an "EJB Project" and if so, are you using JPA? Or is it a "Web Project"? Are you using ADF?
Eclipse and Oracle Enterprise Pack for Eclipse (OEPE) have corresponding project types that you can use to set up your Eclipse environment for the JDeveloper project. There are multiple way you could configure an Eclipse project with the source from your JDeveloper project. You could just create a new Eclipse project then copy your JDeveloper source files into the src folder of the new Eclipse project and "refresh" the project.
If you are trying to maintain the same project structure and some level of interoperability, you can create an Eclipse project with the same folder structure as the existing project. For example, using OEPE and following the steps below would help to configure a JDeveloper Web Project that uses JSF as a "Dynamic Web Project" in Eclipse. Basically, you'll create a new project to overlay your existing project, modifying the default Eclipse project structure to map it to the underlying structure of the JDeveloper project. The process will read/import the existing source files and add Eclipse metadata to the project.
- Copy your JDeveloper project to your Eclipse workspace or a location where you want to maintain the project as an Eclipse project.
- With OEPE, create a new "Dynamic Web Project" and use the name/location of the JSF web project from JDev.
- In the "New Dynamic Web Project" wizard,...
- click "modify" to update the configuration and include the desired "JavaServer Faces" version, and project facets for other technologies such as JSTL and "Oracle ADF Web".
- you can create an EAR project and select a configuration option to add your Dynamic Web Project to the EAR.
- change the "Default output folder" from "build\classes" to "classes" which is what the default output directory is in JDev.
- in the "Web Module" page of the wizard, change the "Content directory" field from 'WebContent' to 'public_html' to match the default value in JDeveloper.
- I think there's an option to generate the web.xml deployment descriptor that is selected by default and you can override to so that it is not selected and the process will not overwrite your existing web.xml.
After completing the remaining pages of the wizard, the process will generate the required Eclipse metadata to the project and will refresh the project so that it now contains all the src and web content files from the underlying sub folders.
This is just a rough example and you may have to do some additional configurations for dependent libraries or hand edits of some descriptor files, etc.

I found the answer to my question.
When you attach a device (iPhone, iPad) to your Mac, in iTunes 12 in appears as a tiny icon in the second "row" of the iTunes display. Click the icon and the familiar iTunes display for the device appears. From there, on the Summary screen, you can see the dates of the backups of the device (iCloud and backup to the computer). You can also use the button to backup to the computer.

• Writing into an ftp folder

I have an application where every change in the database gets written into a simple text file. Basically a log. But this log contains EDI data that needs to be transfered into an FTP folder that is being fetched contantly by the EDI translating system.
So far the application works fine by writting the file in-house, checking whether the file exists or not in order to either append a new line or write a new file altogether and then using cfftp to copy it into the ftp folder. But, I would then have to manually copy the file and delete the file in-house in order for a new file to be written, otherwise, it'll continue to append new lines on the same file forever.
I'm thinking of 2 possible scenarios.
Using cfschedule to copy the file to the ftp and at the same time delete it locally, or being able to write the log lines automatically into the FTP the same way it does in-house.
Anyone have any ideas how to accomplish this?
Thanks

That's the thing. I already have it all working at the same time with cffile 'amend' and 'write', but the client wants me to drop the file every 15 or 20 minutes in his ftp folder.
Locally, checking the existence of the file and either amending writing it is a piece of cake but he wants the file not in my local server's folder but his via ftp.

• Advice on "merging" multiple projects into one

RH9 webhelp.
We currently run as merged help, but for maintenance and other reasons, I would like to merge these into a single project. This is mostly due to the variety of style sheets and folder structures that resulted from many of our older topics being added using the import Word feature in earlier versions of RH. I've done this in the past with a few smaller projects, but it ended up requiring a fair amount of manual per-topic work that I'd like to avoid if possible, give the # of these that would be affected by this.
My initial questions are:
1. Is it recommended to use the import feature to add the child files into the parent? Or create a brand new project and add both parent and children files into that? Or to use some other method of adding/recreating the current files into an existing/new single project? Especially in terms of the questions below (i.e. folder structures, old/new styles, associated image files, etc.).
2. Is there a way of importing that won't replicate the original folder structure? For example, in the projects I've created from scratch, all topics are under the basic folder for that project, while in older ones - which were mostly updated by importing Word documents - many topics reside in their own sub-folders, or in what were apparently early attempts to organize topics by subject. I would like to get rid of these sub-folders and have all topics in the same basic folder.
3. Is there a way of importing images that can auto-update image file names if an existing one already uses it? Many of our older images were created using simple numbering (e.g. 1.jpg, 2.jpg, etc.). Between the various projects and the various subfolders in each project, we have a lot of shared file names, and in my initial experimenting it required a lot of manual work to avoid overwriting. Is there a way in RH (or even outside, I guess) to somehow automate renaming these images during the import process?
4. Is there advice on mass-updating styles via style-sheets? I'm noticing a lot of weird display and control issues if I import a bunch of old topics and then try to apply our current style sheet to them. For example, RH will show that the new style is now associated with them, but they continue to display using the old style, or the wrong options (usually font styles and font sizes) are enforced with the update (for example RH seems to always default to want to use Times New Roman, even when neither the old nor new styles uses this font), or options (most commonly the font styles we use in the new style) will disappear from drop downs and the like. It just feels very buggy and not consistent or correct in being applied, and I'm worried about having to manually update or recreate a lot of individual topics because of this. Given we have some very ancient topics that have 'survived' 4 or 5 (or more) versions of RH, I guess I'm wondering if there's any old html code or similar that might be the culprit, and if so, how best to sort it out.
Essentially, we're kind of unique perhaps in that we don't really want to retain the existing folder structures or style guides, but my experience with the previous go-through was that RH did what it could to retain those. Which is understandable, but for us it'd be nice to avoid that and especially if there's a way of doing so without having to manually move and edit each topic and image file as they're imported into the target project.
Thanks for any tips or suggestions!

Hi there TWnKC
Personally, I'd copy the existing master, then begin importing the child topics in order to create a new project that is a combination of the former. And I do think it will be helpful moving forward to describe this as "Combining" as opposed to "Merging". Just so everyone is aware of the difference.
As for the structure, it may be whatever you like and all you have to do is ensure you import the topics into the correct folder.
Not sure about the images. That one will require a bit of testing. I might expect that if nothing is done you do run the risk of having them overwritten. So here is what I would probably do. Before importing, move images to a folder that is rather unique. That way they will be out of the way and won't get overwritten. By moving them inside RoboHelp, all references to them are updated as well.
As for the style sheets, only picking apart what is happening will truly reveal the issues. My own guess here is that you are probably seeing some inline or embedded styling that is causing things to run amok. But once you sort what is happening, it shouldn't be a big deal to fix.
I'm sure others will pop in and offer other additional advice.
Best of luck to you! Rick
