Changing DocType

Dear All,
I have an application that is trying to insert a JDOM document into an Oracle DB.
Prior to do this, I need to change the DTD from
file:///V:/EURAC/Central_services/ICT_5/KNE/Projects/eldit/Prototype/MakeEldit1/WEB-INF/res/dtds/textNEW.dtd
to
/text.dtd
I wrote a simple function:
private int setDTDBeforeInsert(org.jdom.Document doc, File fileout) {
DocType docType;
docType = new DocType("/text.dtd");
try {
doc.setDocType(docType);
XMLOutputter outputter = new XMLOutputter();
OutputStream fout = new FileOutputStream(fileout);
outputter.output(doc, fout);
return 0;
} catch (IOException e) {
System.err.println(e);
return -1;
the problem is that the document already have an associated DocType so I receive an excpetion and there is no way to change it and to insert into DB.
Do ypu have any idea how to do it or any suggestion?
Stefano Bracco

It is my experience to avoid this situation by instead of changing the document type itself, changing the task to have a new document type with the desired settings.
If for some reason the earlier periods are re-consolidated, the new setting are applied as opposed to the old and this has caused problems for me in the past.

  • Changed DOCTYPE Causes menu shift in IE

    Hi,
    To clean up my page I'm trying to add a correct DOCTYPE. My current site works but but done pre-Dreamweaver has a lot of validation errors. That site is http://www.nevilleboats.com
    I've changed the DOCTYPE to 4.01 transitional.
    The results can be seen in an alternate temporary page:  http://nevilleboats.com/index2.htm
    In FireFox the site appears to be pretty stable.  When loaded into IE, however, the whole menu stack originally on the left side of the page (inside a table column) shifts to the center of the page.  It actually locates beneath the slideshow.
    The general layout of the page is a table layout with a bit of CSS.  I appreciate a full CSS page might be a solution, but I just don't have the experience yet to pull that off.
    Can more experienced eyes point me to a solution?
    Thanks
    chuck

    Here's code that validates EXCEPT for the following -
    1.  Flash embed/object markup
    2.  Missing alt attributes
    3.  The <marquee> tag
    You can use this as a solid base....

      Neville  --- For over 30 years I have been designing rugged Trawler
      and Motor Yachts that help owner&#39;s like you realize your dreams.  I
      have also been sculpting versatile motorsailers and finding solutions
      for commercial motor catamarans that take you diving or exploring remote
      destinations. Add to that body of work, propulsion systems for US Coast
      Guard&#39;s own fleet of boats that protect you, and work with big ship
      design firms that bring goods to your door. ...I&#39;ve been busy.  </p>
            <p align="left">Within the design process I&#39;ve learned a lot. One of the
              most important things I&#39;ve learned is good ideas don&#39;t just stem from
              the designer. The best designs evolve through collaboration between the
              designer and the client. Over the years I&#39;ve worked with dozens of great
              boat yards and hundreds of experienced owners. It is this collaborative
              experience that I to bring to the table when developing a new project,
              be it a 20 foot open boat or a 100 foot luxury yacht.</p>
            <p align="left">Listening is the key to any successful design. My goal
              is not to design a boat that is right for me, but one that meets or
              exceeds the requirements of you, my client. Over the last many years
              much of my focus has become moderate sized Motor or Trawler style
              yachts: family cruisers between 50 and 100 foot in length. You will see
              some here, and others shown in my <b><i>White Book</i></b> of recent
              designs. The important thing to remember is that all these images are
              merely starting points. </p>

  • Changing doctype in RH7 files

    We need to import a lot of old HTML files (originally produced in XML) into a new project. Our new files have the doctype:
    <!doctype HTML public "-//W3C//DTD HTML 4.0 Frameset//EN">
    This is fine for them but to fix various issues with formatting the old files we want to replace the above with this:
    <!doctype HTML public  "-//www.w3.org/TR/html4/loose.dtd">
    Making this change and saving a topic fixes all the formatting issues but the doctype quickly reverts to the original one, certainly after saving and reopening the project. Is there a way to turn off use of the Frameset//EN doctype? It does not seem to be essential to use it.
    Thanks,

  • Template changing DOCTYPE on associated pages

    I simply do not get this.  Why is dreamweaver changing the top portion of my pages after updating the template.  Let me try to explain this better...
    Template top of page looks like this:
    <!DOCTYPE HTML PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD HTML 4.01 Transitional//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/html4/loose.dtd">
    <head>
    <link rel="icon" href="../favicon.ico" type="image/x-icon">
    <link rel="shortcut icon" href="../favicon.ico" type="image/x-icon">
    <META name="verify-v1" content="AfvIuRXzpXMo/nQM4FUu7Nsr38+3VooCoX60nvN3yvU=" />
    <meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=iso-8859-1" />
    <title>School District #22 International</title>
    <script src="../Scripts/AC_RunActiveContent.js" type="text/javascript"></script>
    <script type="text/javascript">
    Now after updating my template and saving.... it updates all the pages associate... and then changes the top portion to this:
    <!-- InstanceBegin template="/Templates/templateI.dwt" codeOutsideHTMLIsLocked="false" --><!DOCTYPE HTML PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD HTML 4.01 Transitional//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/html4/loose.dtd">
    <head>
    <link rel="icon" href="../favicon.ico" type="image/x-icon">
    <link rel="shortcut icon" href="../favicon.ico" type="image/x-icon">
    <META name="verify-v1" content="AfvIuRXzpXMo/nQM4FUu7Nsr38+3VooCoX60nvN3yvU=" />
    <meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=iso-8859-1" />
    <title>School District #22 International</title>
    <script src="../Scripts/AC_RunActiveContent.js" type="text/javascript"></script>
    <script type="text/javascript">
    So then when I try to enter a new banner image, or something that requires inserting.... into an edible region of the page... I get error messages saying it is not containing the DOCTYPE.
    I went into each page with wordpad and changed it all back, to match the template (by hand!)  Now I see it has switched the pages all back.
    I appreciate the help, as I am stumped.  Never happened before.

    Thank YOU Murray, I seem to be still getting something wrong.
    I did find the missing <html> before I left work for the day.  I have no idea how that disappeared!
    I did as you said... save the template file as a "File As a Template"
    Took the all the code from the top to the bottom of the </head> tag and copied and pasted over the other original template.
    I am not sure that it actually worked.  You see I am trying to use a banner on different pages on this website... Just purchased from Ajatix.
    the banner is not working on the pages... will not allow me to insert banner within the page... locked by template.  Ajatix said I must have edible region within the head of the template..... (when I try to "insert.... template object.... edible region" it bounces around and will not go into the head portion.
    The code I copied/pasted from the new template to the original template is this?  Sorry that I am confused over this...
    <!DOCTYPE HTML PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD HTML 4.01 Transitional//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/html4/loose.dtd">

  • Alt text and doctype XHTML

    Just a question to know if my thoughts are right...
    I have made my website and at the top DW has put:
    <!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Transitional//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/DTD/xhtml1-transitional.dtd"><html xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml">
    I have notices that the alt-text in my site are not working (the way I would like), they are not displayed when you go over the image with the cursor. I know that the alt text will show up if the image fails to load for any reason but I would like them to show up also when you go over the image.
    After a long search I found that if I change DOCTYPE to HTML 4.01, the alt-text are displayed in the browsers (IE). But unfortunately I can't change the DOCTYPE because of my SPRY-menu.
    Is this correct?
    And is it also correct that the only way to show the text of an image (with doctype XHTML), is to make a title-tag of the image (which DW doesn't facilitate)?
    Katinka.

    function(){return A.apply(null,[this].concat($A(arguments)))}
       I know that the alt text will show up if the image fails to load for any reason but I would like them to show up also when you go over the image.
    That's not the role of alt text. It's only for alternative text in the absence of an image-not a popup tooltip.
    It has worked as a tooltip in earlier versions of IE because they incorrectly displayed the alt attribute in the absence of the title attribute. It won't work in modern browsers and it's unrelated to the Doctype.
    Use the title attribute instead.

  • DTD validation without a !DOCTYPE

    I am doing some integration with a third-party. The project involves sending an XML request, receiving a response, parsing, and displaying the results in a browser. I have received DTDs from the third party, and must validate the request before the message is sent (posted) from my side. However, the third party requires that a <!DOCTYPE> declaration should not exist in the document. Can someone give me an example of how to validate an XML document with no <!DOCTYPE>? I am building the document object with JDOM. Also, any suggestions on a parser implementation?
    Thanks,
    Ben

    This is the model I am using: I have millions of docs I need to
    validate, so I am reading one at a time in memory, I process
    the string for some offline edit operatiosn then validate the
    resulted xml string. I am creating the parser once in memory
    and validating each document by changing the xml string its
    supposed to parse. (all are being validated against same DTD)
    Now as I said before the timing actually surprised me also.. and I
    have no explenation either.. I am running on a Windows2000/jdk1.4
    and xerces.. and sax parser for validation. And the results were:
    With string manipulation to change doctype:
    DOMValidation: 13Microsecs
    SAXValidation: 10Microsecs
    and using entity stuff it was 29Microsecs. As I said I am just a
    messenger presenting the results, and I would like to find
    out also whats happening here.

  • How to use price list in inventory management documents (without SO module)

    Hi all
    I want to setup sales prices for items and I am using inventory management module of jd edwards enterpriseone.
    Is there any possibility in which I can use the sales price items functionality.
    So after I enter the sales price for each items in specific conditions, is there any possibility for these prices to be automatically shown anytime I enter a inventory issue or any other document which has to do with the issuing of the items.
    Please suggest
    thank you and best regards
    Ernest

    Hello,
    You can setup Item Sale price through the P4106 application in inventory management. But since your requirement is quite customised, Inventory Issue dont have such functionality to populate Item Sale Price when you are issuing items eventhough you create/change doctype. It will only be populate Item Cost and Extended cost.

    Thanks, for your reply..
    I've corrected it.. Its works as expected in Firefox and Chrome, problem with IE alone

  • Dreamweaver CS6 Rewrites My Code!!!

    Sigh. I just upgraded to Dreamweaver CS6 Creative Cloud, hoping it would solve the code rewriting issues added in CS5.5.
    No joy. Take a look at the following code fragment:
    <input type="text" name="getEmailAddress()" size="40" required="1" validate="email" message="Please enter your email address." />
    Thing is, this is NOT HTML. This is part of an XML definition of a form, embedded within a CFC. Whenever CS6 gets its grubby little paws on it, however it changes it to this:
    <input type="text" name="getEmailAddress()" size="40" required validate="email" message="Please enter your email address." />
    Note the required="1" attribute is now simply required. Which blows up the XML parser big time.
    This, just when I was getting around to writing a post about how, after THREE versions (CS3, CS4, CS5), Adobe finally got around to fixing the code rewriting bug I originally posted back in March, 2008.
    I've tried changing doctypes, turned off rewriting in preferences, and done pretty much eveything I could think of, AND DREAMWEAVER STILL REWRITES MY CODE! I was told in CS5.5 that Dreamweaver will perform these kinds of changes based on the presence of a doctype specification...
    But why is doing it in a ****ing CFC?????? Am I supposed to add doctype's to my CFC's now?
    Look, Adobe, I'm a professional. I know what I'm doing, and when I put text to a file, I expect it to remain exactly as written. I do NOT need you "improving" my code.
    Especially when "improving" my code BREAKS MY CODE.
    Please provide a "hands off" option, and HONOR it.
    I need Dreamweaver because I need RDS access to some sites. If it were not for RDS access, I would drop this piece of grief and aggravation in a heartbeat.
    I wonder how many years I'm going to have to wait to get THIS fixed...

    > I do NOT want it doing that.
    Why? It's the right thing to do. Anyhow, PREFERENCES >

  • Adobe Dreamweaver is rewriting code... again.

    http://www.cfinternals.org/blog/2012/02/dreamweaver-cs55-rewrites-code-again.html
    I just upgraded from Dreamweaver CS5 to CS5.5, as I needed to cross-grade to the Design Suite in order to get InDesign.
    Everything was going swimmingly, until I ran across the following. Take a look at the following code fragment:
    <input type="text" name="getEmailAddress()" size="40" required="1"validate="email" message="Please enter your email address." />
    Thing is, this is NOT HTML. This is part of an XML definition of a form, embedded within a CFC. Whenever CS5.5 gets its grubby little paws on it, however it changes it to this:
    <input type="text" name="getEmailAddress()" size="40" required validate="email" message="Please enter your email address." />
    I wonder how many years I'm going to have to wait to get THIS fixed...

    I don't care if it's known or not. I want it FIXED. I want Dreamweaver to stop rewriting my code. The fact is that these kinds of behaviors have been "known" since CS3... and they have gone on for years... and they are ALL unacceptable.
    And why is Dreamweaver performing these kinds of changes based on the presence of a doctype specification... in a CFC??????
    One other thing. I saw your comments on this in another thread, and the one that got me was the one that said, "And this is a problem how?"
    Like I said above, we are professionals. Dreamweaver is supposed to be a tool for professionals. We know what we're doing, and when we write code, we expect it to remain exactly as written, unless we specifically ask for it to be reformatted. We do NOT need Dreamweaver silently cleaning up or "improving" our code. Doing so is not a feaure. It is not a benefit.
    Especially when it breaks it in the process.
    You can pass THAT along too.

  • Changing new page code for doctype

    Hello,
    is it possible to change the code created for a new page when choosing the doctype?
    e.g. if I choose New > HTML > HTML5 I get:
    <!DOCTYPE HTML>
    <html>
    <head>
    <meta charset="UTF-8">
    <title>Untitled Document</title>
    </head>
    <body>
    </body>
    </html>
    Is there somewhere I get edit the default code that gets created?
    Thanks
    Nick

    Hello Murray,
    sorry, i meant to say which version but forgot, I'm using the trial version of CS5.5 on Mac OS.
    I was hoping to be able to change it to use my usual starting point which is:
    <!doctype html>
    <html lang="en">
    <head>
    <meta charset="utf-8">
    <title></title>
    </head>
    <body>
    </body>
    </html>
    In CS4 (which I use at the moment) I start with a blank document and use a snippet to fill in the basic outline. I was hoping 5.5 had a way of changing the default outline (one of the things I dowsnloaded the trial to check out).
    Thanks
    Nick
