Changing file or html names
With certain IWEB pages like blogs and video that have a summary front page, pot page and archives, they are named with these long irrelevant names D13B5A4C-A2E1-4B86-B759-09C5C77BC9E0. How can these file names be changed in the web site folder?
Is the newest version backward compatible for changing files names
iWeb 09 will probably use the new style filenames after converting your old iWeb file.
Later iWeb versions also publish to:
iDisk>Web>Sites
instead of
iDisk>Web>Sites>iWeb

Complied chm file displays 'HTML help' on the title bar instead of the window name
Complied chm file displays 'HTML help' on the title bar instead of the window name.
I tried several ways like:
1. Changed File>Project settings name and also set the language to English (US).
2. Checked the Title name in .hhp file
3. Used the window while compling.
4. Robohelp language settings.
5. Also uninstalled and reinstalled robophelp.
But nothing helped
The title name is displayed correctly if the same project is compiled on another machine. When the code in the HHP and the regional settings on a PC match, the correct title is displayed. Or other way around is also true the help title is displayed in the language specified in the help project IF (and only if) the regional settings of the PC match that language. Otherwise, "HTML Help" is displayed.
Hope this help.

RoboHelp changes file name to lowercase
I am using RH X5.0.2 (running on Win XP SP2) to import HTML files as topics. The primary layout is Microsoft HTML Help.
The original HTML file names are mixed case, but when the files are imported into RoboHelp, the file names are changed to all lowercase. For example, GL_Audit.htm is changed to gl_audit.htm. This is an issue because the topic title reflects the file name, and I need the topic title to retain the mixed case of the original files.
After I import the file, I have to manually change the topic title. However, RoboHelp does not like it when the title has an underscore. If I change gl_audit to GL_Audit and click OK, the change is not saved. But if I change gl_audit to GLAudit and click Apply, and then change it to GL_Audit, the change is saved.
I am using an existing project that was created by someone else a long time ago. Here are the steps that I am following:
1. Right-click the destination folder, and then click Import.
2. At the Import File screen, select the desired file, for example, GL_Audit.htm, and click Open. The file is imported as a topic.
3. Right-click the topic, and click Properties. Note that the Topic Tile is gl_audit, and the file name is gl_audit.htm.
4. In the Topic Title field, type GL_Audit, and click OK. Note that the Topic title is still gl_audit, and not GL_Audit.
5. Open the Topic Properties screen again.
6. In the Topic Title field, type GLAudit, and click Apply.
7. In the Topic Title field, enter an underscore between the L and the A so that the topic title is GL_Audit.
8. Click OK. Not that the topic title is saved as it was typed -- in mixed case.
If I can get RH to import the files without changing the original case, it will not matter that it takes two steps to change the topic title name.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
AshleyHi again
Ashley, how are these HTML pages being created? I ask because I performed a small test. While the import process did indeed convert the file name to all lower case, it ignored the Topic Title. However, if I didn't have a Topic Title defined, it did create one that was all lower case.
I'm thinking that whatever tool that was used to create the topics you are importing didn't properly configure a proper Title Tag.
Cheers... Rick

Is there a Mac app that will change all of the file names within a folder. For instance, if all of the file names start with My_FileThisFile.html and I would like to remove the "My_File" portion of all of the files in a folder rather than having to manually change all of their names.
Thank you,
Lindayou can do it using built in Finder scripts available from the script menu.
to activate script menu start Applescript Utility and check the box to show script menu in the menu bar.
also, there are are a lot of 3rd party renamers on Mac Update
http://www.macupdate.com/search.php?keywords=renamer
all of them will do this and more. -

No, you can't change that in the console. It's defined in the application's
application.xml
descriptor file.

I am facing the same problem that you have stated in your Feb 26, 2002 10:28 AM message regarding "change file name with oreilly servlet", I would like to change the file name to include a unique identifier upon upload, did you ever find a solution to your problem?
Thanks!

Is it possible to change file name policy in the JRE cache folder?
We are getting calls from our clients complaining of slowdowns in loading our Java applet. The reason is a virusscanner. If a virusscanner is in the middle, it can drastically slow down the download process, and therefore cause some high delay before the user can work on the our product as expected.
On this csutomer's side, it may take up to 10 min (the first time it is ran) instead of 1 min. JRE 1.6 is in use.
They dont want to exclude from antivirus scan all files from Sun\Java\Deployment\cache folder.
Question:
Is it possible to change file name policy in the JRE cache to make it less unique?
Thanks,

I suggest you solve the real problem - big files.
There are two scenarios
1. Initial download
2. Updates.
The first takes as long as it takes. No way around it.
The second means that you can't use one jar. Otherwise every single update requires downloading the entire application every time. Multiple jars means only the one that changed is downloaded. -
Change ZFS root dataset name for root file system
Hi all
A quick one.
I accepted the default ZFS root dataset name for the root file system during Solaris 10 installation.
Can I change it to another name afterward without reinstalling the OS? For example,
zfs rename rpool/ROOT/s10s_u6wos_07b rpool/ROOT/`hostname`
zfs rename rpool/ROOT/s10s_u6wos_07b/var rpool/ROOT/`hostname`/var
Thank you.Renaming the root pool is not recommended.

How do I reconnect media after changing file name?
The original file name is 1001.WAV I changed it to Take1 . How do I relocate the files? I use Pluraleyes to sync all my files.
Cheers, GregChange it back. NEVER change file names in the Finder level if the media is in an FCP project. Change it BEFORE you import it into FCP...or change the name IN FCP. What you did was bad bad wrong wrong. Expecially since you already did things like sync it up with pluraleyes.
Change it back. Then change the name in FCP. -
The book I downloaded has each chapter as a seperate .pdf, each with it's own unique filename. ADE has retitled every chapter (.pdf) to the name of the book. Now that all the chapters have the same name, I can't transfer them to my Kobo. How do I change titles or get ADE to stop changing file names?
ThanksDimitri,
As usual, thanks for the simple but informative explanation!

Does anyone know how to change jpeg file names in a folder to a name name in an Excel record? Is this even possible to do it as an "action" or with some automation of some kind?
Once document has been save there is a backing file the document name will not change. Even a new document that has not been saved name can be change directly by user code Photoshop treats Document name as read only. A Document that has no backing file name may be change during a save operation to the file name of the now backing file.
You may able to rename the backing file via a Photoshop script if Photoshop does not keep the saved file locked but that would make the current document inconsistent for the document would have a backing file that does not exists. Once a document is close out of Photoshop it you rename a file it would be OK as far as Photoshop is concerned. However it may make a database that Bridge or LR maintains inconstant. You may be better off correcting the Excel record.
Renaming files including just moving them can break things like links in placed linked files Bridge collections LR Library etc. -
How do i set drive to update changes only when same name files are added
I Want to set up an external drive to update changes only when same name files are dragged from desktop can any one help?
That's still a little ambiguous. What recording software are you using?
Usually the individual sound files in a music project file are included in a separate folder. For example, GarageBand normally hides these files inside a single Project file in the Finder, but you can right-click and Show Package Contents to see the individual audio files.
Any of those backup utilities I mentioned will be smart enough to copy the new and changed files within the project file. In the Terminal these .band files are actually directories, just like .app Applications in the Finder are actually directories. I think Finder may actually handle it properly also, but I'm not really sure what the Finder will do when you re-copy a GarageBand project folder to an existing backup copy and only some of the audio files have changed. -
Hi,
I have been looking on the forum, but haven´t found any
response.
For the past weeks, many of the visitors at my web encounter
problems on downloading files. The name of them contain spaces and
I would like to change it, i.e.
"first things first.pdf"
"first_things_first.pdf"
Is it possible to change the names all at the same time,
instead one by one?
Thank you!

How many pdf files ??
if you change them within Dw - it will update all the links
for you.
If you did it outside Dw - the links will be broken - but
there is a
tool to change all links

When exporting from Photos, the panel for naming the file no longer shows up. Why and how do I change so I can name the file what I want?
You don't need to maintain all versions of the upgrade chain, but many of us do in case we need to work on a legacy file. If you want to rmove a version, though, ti should be done BEFORE installing the later one. Just reinstall CS5 and things should get back to normal.
