Changing name of PCD object EP 6.0 SP11

Hello,
in connection with the introduction of a new name standard I need to change the name, id and prefix of a number of iviews and pages.
I do this by using the "Change id" command. The prefix and id are changed, but I am unable to change the name. Even if I write a new name it is not saved.
If I set the name in the properties list (after opening the object), it is saved, but the old name still appears in the PCD structure. I have tried refresh, and deleting the browser cache.
Anyone have a solution to this problem?

I have the same problem Jørgen has (NW04 SPS 11 Patch 3, German speaking environment).
I switched the portal language to "english" and copies of predefined SAP content now can be renamed. In fact, name changes I made when the portal was still switched to "german" and which then seemed to have failed suddenly turned out having been successfull.
The problem is that this doesn't solve the problem, because the name changes back to its (original) english version when switching back the portal language to german.
Why is it that only (copies of) predefined SAP content behave like that? Are there any rights or attributes that get copied along with the objects and which have to be altered?

Hi, I just got a question from a friend who recently bought a mac. Now he thinks it ***** because he can't change the names of some pictures at the same time. What he want's to do is to mark some objects and then change the names at the same time, he says you can do that on a PC. I have never done anything like it, is it possible?

I haven't used the application myself but read a lot about it.
The standard Apple application "Automator" can do the job for you.
You better give it a try.
The principle is easy: drag the files to the workarea and select the "rename files" script.

Change name of objects in JList ??

Hi there,
I'm building an adressbook. If I make some adress-objects and load them into a JList, I can see them fine and acces them, but they're called things like "adress@32897".
Is there a way to change the name of these objects? (that is not the name as such, but the name under which they appear in the JList).

I'm guessing the default renderer in a JList works (in most cases) by calling toString(), and rendereing the resulting text.
Override that method to return what you expect.

Now, customer is changing the marketing site from english to arabic, now my question is will the logical name of the objects change?
do i need to again build the Object repository for arabic as well or will the logical name remains the same?

If you developed framework based on objects id, then that will work.
If you used text of objects to identify them( say example click on a link with text 'SignUp') then script will fail - fail to find object with text mentioned in script

Can I change what layer is used to name a Smart Object?

I really love smart objects, and in particular I appreciate being able to combine a layer and its adjustment layers into a single smart object. However, when I create smart objects from multiple layers this way, I end up with names like "Hue/Saturation 31" and "Curves 16". Is there a way to set Photoshop to name the smart objects based on the primary layer, so I don't lose the layer names that actually indicate what's in the smart object?
For example, I do a lot of editing and combining groups of "selfies" that people send me. Once I extract them from their backgrounds, I bring them into a single file, with each "selfie" named with the name of the person pictured. So, for example, I'd have a Jane Doe layer, a John Smith layer, etc. Then I add adjustment layers to each one, to match their exposure and color as much as possible. Then, if any of the adjustment layers are not applied evenly to the entire smart object, I combine the smart object and its adjustment layers into a new smart object, so I can move and scale it easily without messing up the alignment of the combined layers. However, then I have to go back to the original files to know who is who.
Smart objects work much better than linked layers, but all the extra steps necessary to re-name them are driving me nuts. Does anyone have a solution?

When I know i'll be transforming or adding additional filters, I prefer to go directly to creating smart objects rather than grouping them first, since the relevant layers are automatically "grouped" by being pulled into the smart object. My thought is that the default name for a smart object (or a group, for that matter) should be the lowest layer on the selected stack that has a non-default name, since in most cases that's the one you'd want to use for the new smart object. I don't know exactly how Photoshop recognizes layer names, but since it knows what number to assign to new layers or individual types of adjustment layers, it should also be able to recognize when a layer name is not a default name.

Problems deleteting PCD-objects at level 9

Recently our PCD-structure have gotten deeper. Our PCD-structure starts with the folder "Portal Content" at level 1. As a result of the structure getting deeper, I am experiencing problems with deleting PCD-objects, iViews or pages, at level 9. When I right-click on the object and select delete, the tool for finishing the delete never appears.
Level 8 objects are ok. I am at SAP EP V6.0 SP13.
Has anyone else experienced problems with this. Were you able to find a workaournd?
Help would be much appreciated.

I am using EP 6.0.14.0.0
I tried it and I am not facing this problem.
I think..I came with a same kind of problem earlier.
When I try to create the directory structure in my local File System using Java it was not creating deeper directories more than level 7.
This is because of some restriction in char length I think.
Do onething..Try to Reduce the length of your folder/roles/pages/iviews names.
like
Sample :
If you have
"MyPCDFolderStructureOne" then reduce it to
"PCDOne" - just for sample

PCD Audit : What information about the PCD objects are stored in the PCD?

Need some information on the information stored in the PCD for audit purposes.
Object = Any PCD object, typically iView, Page, Workset, Role, Group...
1. Creation of any object - Should definately be present in the PCD
2. Any modification including history - List of all actions on any PCD object - I am sure the last modification is tracked, but can we track every change to the object from creation?
3. Deletion of any object? - This I am not sure of - Does the PCD store information about deleted object's like deletion time stamp and the user who deleted etc?

There is no versioning concept in PCD right now, but ofcourse planned for future.
So you cannot track the history and deleted objects, but there exists PCD Repository Manager in KM on which you can activate versioning. Check if this suites your needs. Never tried but logically ever PCD change should get versioned here.

Setting the property "Cache Level" of the pcd object to "None".

Hi all
I have an EP 6.0 on NW04 SPS 17. I need to solve a problem and found note 960975. My question is, how could we change the setting the property "Cache Level" of the pcd object to "None"? Where should I go? Is it on the NWA, Visual Admin, Configtool or somewhere else?

By using the tool Support Desk -> Portal Content Directory -> PCD Administration you can do this. Please note that this tool should only be used in debugging situations.
There is a new section "Release a Unit from the cache cluster wide" in this tool. With this new functionality, you can remove an object from the cache on all nodes in the cluster. If the object is still in use, it will be reread immediately from the database
Releasing the entire PCD cache can severely affect performance. Hence, if there are inconsistencies suspected with a single object, e.g. a role or an iview, the new section "Release a Unit from the cache cluster wide" can be used to evict the given object from the cache on all nodes in the cluster.

How to change name of software component version in IR and ID?

Hi All,
I have a scenario in which 50 interfaces are there.All interfaces are working fine and we are in Testing stage.
I need to change name of Software component which I have used in IR.
I tried with release transport. I am able to pass all my mapping programs and everything under new software component name. But in ID all configuration objects contain IR objects (Like interface mapping) with old software component name.
Do I need to change everything in ID manually or is there any other way for this?

If you check this blog , you are able to transfer data even without IR content, i.e, there is no message interface , no namespace in IR and stil this works. Reason, there is no validation if the message interafce exists in the IR. In the runtime the SOAP Header is filled with the interfacename and namespace and it uses these values.

Likewise, irrespective of which SWCV the interface name and namespace is, things will work fine as long as they exists in the IR in your case.
The SWCV is a means to group objects, it might be displayed while doing the manual configuration but it doesnt matter even if you just key in the values without using the help.
Things will work fine.

How to trace specific changes made to an object?

Hi experts,
Is there any log or trace file in the SAP Portal where to check specific changes made to an object by an administrator ? (i.e. current and former value for "Maximum Automatic Height" iview property, who changed that value, when...).

As you told some changes identified. so navigate to corresponnding portal obejcts and find modified and last changed by similar properties in the property editor object.
portal activity reports gives how many users visted specific pcd object but not who visited. You can use pcd filter to compare properties.

To get names of reports/objects, Object list from any log files..

Hi All,
I have a query, how does OBIEE allocate names to its objects like reports/dashboards dynamically which we see in Session queries. Is there a way that we could get this information from any system variables or any internal file ? This information is to get and run some automation testing post migration, so that validation and verification effort will come down.
I have one more query, is there way to list of all the objects? Reports/dashboards/tables/variables/MV or any other which are part of our OBIEE reports.
So that If we can get a list and any log which tells these are modified or not..so that post migration validation/verification will be easy.

From my experience I noticed that OBIEE does not use internal identifiers for reports and dashboards. That is a bit of a pain point because if you had a Navigation Drill setup, and you change the name of the target report, your drill will fail. However, there is a "Smart Rename" in the Catalog Manager tool. That will go through the catalog and fix any reference. But in short, there are no internal identifiers for the reports and dashboards. Just the names themselves and the folder path are the unique identifiers.
Secondly, you can easily run such a report using the Catalog manager tool. Just log into your catalog and go to Tools->Create Report. You have to run one report for Dashboards and any request part of a dashboard and a separate report for any Answer requests that didn't happen to be put into a dashboard. The report creation process is pretty straight forward. It lets you specify what data points you want and it does the rest. It generates a tab delimited file I believe (it could have been comma though, I can't quite remember). Easy to import it into Excel and work with.

BUG: Wrong column name in View Object

I've had this happen several times to me. I added an Entity Object to a View Object in the VO Wizard. I then went to the "Query" section and hit "Test" to test the SQL code generated by the VO Wizard. The test failed because the wizard had added an equality test (table1.col1 = table2.col2) to the WHERE part which used the wrong table name.
It is possible to manually fix this by putting the correct table name in the query, but you'd have to do this every time you make a change to the View Object.
What I did was to rebuild the View Object from scratch, and this time it correctly generated the SQL query. I was able to add some more Entity Objects, but then it happened again. This is really irritating because my View Object is fairly complex and it takes quite some time to remake it.
I can't give instructions on how to reproduce this because it only happens every so often. It would save a lot of frustration if someone could fix it though.

I was able to build this scenario and test the query with success. Here is the sql for the view object I created
