Changing pdf templates
i have several hundered PDFs that I need to update the copyright information on as well as add our updated company logo. I only have the PDFs, none of the original source files (Word or InDesign). Ideally i would just be able to run a batch process to crop the headers/footers out and add into a our new template
Instead of cropping, it would be better to redact the outdated content. You can then use add the new content by adding a background. This assumes the copyright info and logo are in the same locations on each page or each document. This can be done via scripting in a batch process.
To redact, add a redaction annotation using the doc.addAnnot method: http://livedocs.adobe.com/acrobat_sdk/9.1/Acrobat9_1_HTMLHelp/JS_API_AcroJS.88.434.html
and apply them using the doc.applyRedactions method: http://livedocs.adobe.com/acrobat_sdk/9.1/Acrobat9_1_HTMLHelp/JS_API_AcroJS.88.445.html

We are trying to create a PDF Template for an XML Publisher Report using Adobe Acrobat Profession Version. The PDF Template works fine for one employee but when the start and end body tags are inserted in the template, the concurrent process to submit this reports completes in warning.

PDF Template with user updateable fields
Does anyone have instructions from begin to end on how to create a PDF template with a field that is both populated by XML and allows for user to update when opened in Adobe 8 viewer or higher? I have been successful in creating the template, but once the pdf is output via concurrent program XDODTEXE the fields are no longer updateable. I have looked into the xdo.cfg in XDO_TOP and set the property all-field-readonly to FALSE, but I am still unsuccessful. Any thoughts or help would be greatly appreciated...

We solved the problem... xdo.cfg contained a typo.

Viewer works on the original template I associate to the XML / PDF, but when I view the output in Viewer I get a warning indicating the extended features have been changed. I am still searching... Creating an InDesign document from a PDF template
I am creating an InDesign doc from a PDF template. How exactly do I go about getting the pdf template into InDesign? I don't know if I chose
the correct option, but I created my doc in InDesign and then placed the pdf template into the doc? Is this correct? If not, any advice would be very helpful!
Thanks.Actually, I'm not quite sure, from your description, what you're trying to do. If someone gave me an English PDF and told me to recreate it it into an InDesign document, I'd start by doing exactly what you did - I'd place it in InDesign. So, now the PDF is in InDesign, as an image that you can't edit. This is really helpful if you have to recreate a PDF perfectly in InDesign - you can know exactly where everything is, and place each new bit exactly where it is in the PDF.
If someone is expecting you to add stuff to that PDF template, you can place it on top of the PDF in InDesign.
If someone is expecting you to manipulate, change, revise, or otherwise actually touch the objects in the PDF template, they don't know what they're doing - PDF is a storage format, and it's not really easy (or even reliably possible) to edit things in PDFs.
Does that make any sense? Please ask some more questions if this isn't clear. -
Changing HTML templates for Standard SRM screens!!!!!

I have to modify the standard SRM PO screen. I have modified the screen and added the requirement tracking number field but on activation it gives me message to adapt the HTML template manually.
How to change HTML template assigned to the screen? Also what more needs to be done for the field to appear on the SRM portal?
I am not aware even of the transaction code to be used.

You need not chnage the Standard SRM screen nor the HTML template to add a custom field in the PO sceen.

There is an additional note for req tracking no not available in SC but in your case you want the field in PO so wont be relevant.

Using WF_EXTSRV for changing PDF Interactive form

I'am trying to use transaction WF_EXTSRV to generate a task which can be used within the UWL from the portal. The main purpose of this task is to show an exsisting PDF form in change mode. I allready found some nice information from SDN, but not enough to make it all work. I still have still these questions:
1) How must I setup the required fields within transaction WF_EXTSRV when I want to generate for example this url:

2) How must a then setup transaction SWFVISU? Which apllication and package name.

Let me see if I understand your query properly first. Your requirement is that you have a PDF file which is pretty much fixed.
Now you want to use the Template present in the PDF file to be shown to the user, but this should be pre-filled with data that you receive from a Web Service & RFC.
Now firstly I will mention the easy way, which would require you extract the PDF Template statically, I am not sure if the API has now been released to do that programatically.
Now, lets say you store it is some location the template file, you would also need to tweak the DataBinding properties in the Template to match to that of the Context Node you will use in the application.
Now in the ModifyView method you should get a reference to the Interactive form element, use the setTemplateSource method to refer to your template.
Now based on the response from your RFC/WebService create the appropriate attributes into the node, and your form should work fine.

I am building a PDF template which needs to have 2 lines on the right hand column but only 1 line on the left. I have set the template up as specified in the manual, but it appears to put the left column 1 record out.
If I only have 1 line, then all lines up fine. Does anyone have any suggestions?
Update - Many exhausted options later, I tried changing the tooltip entry on the second line to match the data on the first. Suddenly - it works as it should!
This may just be a function of different versions of Acrobat. I am unit version 8.
Anyway, could be useful information if anyone else needs to work with PDF templates.

Don't I know it! - this one was done this way due to having a pre-printed form which we had to line up against. It's been a pretty steep learning curve. Also may have a new (and possibly easire) approach for barcodes.

OK, I try to change a template using Word for Mac version 14.3.4 2011 edition.
I make a change to the template but am unable to save the darned thing to the template folder; it asks for a file name like it's a new document. I want to change the blasted template but if I can't save it as a modified template, I've accomplished nothing.
Does anyone have a solution?

Print files into/onto PDF template for proofing
Hi,
I am hoping someone may be able to help.
I am wanting to set up several PDF templates that will range from A4 -SRA3. these PDF templates will be Proof Approval Templates. I then want to be able to send artwork to print from say InDesign but I want it to print into the PDF template. Hope that makes sense.
I would then end up with say a compliment slip artwork centred onto the Proof template enabling me to send out the proof.
How do I go about this or is it not something that can easily be done?

Bursting a PDF Template is not working correctly
We are using a PDF template for an export document and we are bursting the request so that we can send the output to multiple destinations.
This all works correctly until we hit a document that results in multiple pages. This results in the generated output to be a complete mess. Text appearing all over the page.
If I take the same XML and run it through the template in Template viewer, everything works as expected. The text is all where it is supposed to be. So this appears to be an issue with how the XML and template are bursted.
Anyone have any ideas?
EDIT: I should mention that we're on XML Publisher v 5.6.3

I have created a report based on a single database table (DEMO.PRODUCTS) but am experiencing problems when I try and map the form fields in PDF Template to my sample XML file.
I created a PDF Template and uploaded this template to my Layout. This PDF Template has two form fields on it (PRODUCTNAME and UNITPRICE, which incidentally are the names of the database columns I want them to map to).
I have also uploaded my sample XML data file and therefore have access to the Map Form Fields button on my report definition. However, when I click on the button a new window opens with the Map PDF Form Fields and a dialog to "Click on each highlighted...." and then hangs. When I close the window I receive a message about an Adobe Acrobat error.
If I try and do the same thing in Firefox then I receive a message in the JavaScript Console:

I suggest you to check the RTF Template of your report ....as if your xml output file on submit request form--->diagnostic --->view xml ...is generated ... it means that your data defination file is perfectly fine but there is issue with your rtf template....may be some of grouping or tag is not put properly...
one thing i want to suggest you to pls save that data file as .xml extension and upload in rtf u designed on youe desktop.... check theprview if its coming fine or not.

XML Publisher errors with pdf template workd perfectly with rtf template

I am having a problem with pdf templates in XML publisher. I have a report which outputs XML, this works very well with an rtf template. However I am trying to create a pdf xml publisher template (using the concurrent process which generates the same xml data source) and use this as the basis for the xml publisher report. The process is failing with the error ‘No output file exists for request xxxx’
I am currently working with a very simplified example, the concurrent program generates 5 fields in the xml output including ASSIGNMENT_NUMBER and NI_NUMBER.
Text fields with the same names are inserted into the pdf corresponding to all fields.
Any advice on this would be very greatly appreciated.

I have enabled debug mode and run the report as a 2 step process.
The debug file is attached. Although it says pdf file created successfully no pdf is created and the output file is 0 bytes in size.

How to change page template for a single page?
I create a new document based on the Pages "Reports > Business Report".
Now the first page is formatted as a "Cover" page with a larger top margin.
Via "Format > Advanced > Manage Pages..." I see there are what I assume are the "Page Templates":
- Cover
- Table of Contents
- Chapter Page
- Text Page
- Appendix
My question: How can I change the template for a single page in my document? E.g. I don't want Page #1 to be formatted as "Cover". I'd like it to be a "Text Page".
Any hints?Just delete the Cover section and insert a Text Page.
Click on:
+Toolbar > View > Page Thumbnails+
Click on the Cover thumbnail, it will be outlined in yellow, hit delete.
It may start off with certain defaults but you do not have to accept them.

Populate PDF template with data from another form
Hi all, it's been a while since I've been here. I'm not a LC pro by any stretch, but I've been working on a personal project which I hope will someday result in a small business. The idea is simple: a client fills out a custom form in Acrobat Reader which I've created in LC Designer. Upon completion, they email the pdf (or XDF, or XML, or E4X or whatever might be possible, I'm not even sure!) back to my website.
On my end... and this is hopefully automated... the data would be injected into a template PDF the client needs. This would then be sent back via email for them to print.
It's been over a year since I worked on this. Both the front end forms and the pdf templates are built, but the interaction between receiving the client data and populating the template form never got worked out.
Could anyone provide me with a clue as to what this workflow might look like?
Just to be clear, this application would be waaay too small to even think about going the Enterprise route. I'm "thinking" the automation part of it would be handled by some custom PHP coding, but that's another story.

Yes, I am wedded to the idea that I will only use Adobe PDF. The server component is a whole other story though. I understand the value of it, but as a small business, the idea of coughing up 60k is pretty much out of the question. Especially given that this form is a one of a kind, simple, time saver for my prospective clients.
From what I understand about LC, Acrobat and Reader, there are severe limitations imposed on saving form information in Reader. My clients need to be able to do that, as the form is quite extensive and needs to be revisited to be sure information is correct.
While any one user will probably not exceed the 500 submissions issue, hopefully there will be more than 500 users submitting 1 time!
We'll see if I can work around this issue.
