Changing SMTP authentication method...

Is it possible to change the SMTP authentication method without using the mail/preferences/accounts/smtp server settings route? My Dad's iMac is a "white box" to him - he has no idea what's going on inside it. When it works, he's fine, when it doesn't he calls me. His email stopped sending a couple of days ago, and the error message indicates that "the server didn't support CMD-RM5 authentication" (or something like it). So I walked him through going into the account settings and setting the SMTP server authentication method back to "none" and everything works fine again. But he's adamant he's never been through those dialogues before - and believe me, I think he's right - he'd never think to mess with that stuff. So, how did it get changed? Is there any other shortcut or application that might change the SMTP authentication setting that he could somehow have triggered? Corrupt plist file?
best regards,
Matt

  • Outgoing SMTP Authentication Method Problem (functional option, require signin, not available)

    Hello all,
I'm trying to set up an account on my Thunderbird and I'm having a weird problem. I can receive emails on it fine but I cannot send any emails. Whenever I try to send any emails I get the error message "Syntactically invalid EHLO argument(s)".
This email address that I'm trying to add as an account on Thunderbird works perfectly fine in my Gmail Android app on my phone. The difference in the Outgoing SMTP settings are that on my (working) gmail app the Security Type = NONE and the "Require signin" box is CHECKED, whereas in Thunderbird I can set my Outgoing SMTP Security Type setting to = NONE but I do not have the option to "Require signin". All of the options that are available do not work.
    Is there any solution?
    Thank you!
    Best, Nick

Hi Toad-Hall, thanks for offering to help. Here's the text below. Please let me know if you think this could be a Thunderbird issue, or more likely with my host...

  • Reset Authentication method to Exchange 2013 EAC and now I can't get in.

In trying to work through a list of issues related to Exchange upgrade I inadvertently have locked myself out of the EAC by changing the authentication method.  Is there any way to change it back?

    Hi,
According to my experience, the ECP login failure issue has many reasons. Thus, to narrow down the cause, we can try to confirm the following information and try the following troubleshooting:
    1. Check the detail information about OWA and ECP virtual directory:
    Get-owavirtualdirectory |fl
    Get-ecpvirtualdirectory |fl
    2. Clear or restart the MSExchangeOWAAppPool

  • How to reset endeca authentication method?

Hi there, I'm using endeca 3.1 on Windows and my endeca Portal just had the admin user ([email protected]) created.
I've incorrectly changed the authentication method to ID instead of the email (which was the default) and now when I try to login with admin, it gives a message that the user is invalid...
Is there any way to reset the authentication method back to the default?
    Thanks
    Ygor

For the default user, "admin" is the user's screen name, not the user ID. That's why you couldn't log in using "admin".
The user ID is a number.
I don't know the exact structure of the Studio database, but would it be possible for you to get the user ID for the admin user out of the user table so that you can log in and change the setting back?
Unless you are logged in to Studio, I don't know how you can could change the setting.

  • No option to change "Incoming server authentication method" to None on iPhone 6?

I just upgraded to an iPhone 6 and did a restore from my 5......   Problem is my pop e-mail account won't connect....  It still connects on both my iPad and iPhone 5, both of which are iOS 8.  The only setting that differs between the two that work and my new iPhone is under the "Incoming server authentication method" setting.  On the working devices, nothing has a check mark.  On the new iPhone, "Password" is checked, and I can't find a way to uncheck it (there is no "none" option).
Surely I should be able to work around this?

    Hello 83preston,
After reviewing your post, I have located an article that can help troubleshoot email issues. It contains a number of troubleshooting steps and helpful advice for the issue you are experiencing:
Get help with Mail on iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch
"Username or password is incorrect" with POP3 account
Before you check your email on your iOS device, close any other email programs and close any webmail sites you may have open on another computer.
To see if your account is a POP3 account, use the Mail Settings Lookup tool or follow these steps:
Go to Settings > Mail, Contacts, Calendars and tap the account.
Look for the label POP ACCOUNT INFORMATION.
If your email provider offers IMAP, remove the POP3 account, then add the account with your provider's IMAP settings. POP3 communicates with one mail client at a time. If more than one mail client tries to connect, you might see a username or password error.
Thank you for contributing to Apple Support Communities.
    Cheers,

  • Authentication failed because Outlook doesn't support any of the available authentication methods.

When attempting to check and send email from my Mac via iCloud, I keep getting the error "Authentication failed because Outlook doesn't support any of the available authentication methods." I have change just about everything I can see available, but continue to get this message.
I am able to send email via iCloud using my .Me and .Mac adresses, and that tells me that it is not able to store "sent emails" on iCluud and will store them loaclly on my computer. I can handle this, but whem going to iCloud Web page haave nothing withing the "sent" mailbox.
Using OS 10.7.2, and Outlook 2011 version 14.1.3
    Thanks in advance......

I got the following from the microsoft Web site. Also, the SMPT port must be overwriten. Use port 587
This article contains information about the compatibility of Microsoft Outlook for Mac 2011 and Apple iCloud. Outlook for Mac 2011 does not support Apple iCloud calendar (CalDAV) and contact (CardDAV) synchronization.  Outlook for Mac 2011 does support iCloud Mail. For steps on how to configure your iCloud email account in Outlook for Mac 2011, go to the "More Information" section of this article.
To configure your Apple iCloud email account in Microsoft Outlook for Mac 2011, follow these steps:
    Start Outlook 2011.
On the Tools menu, click Accounts.
Click the plus sign in the lower-left corner, and then select E-mail.
Enter your E-mail Address and Password, and then click Add Account.
Note: The new account will appear in the left navigation pane of the Accounts dialog box.
Enter one of the following in the Incoming server box:
    mail.me.com (for me.com mail addresses)
    mail.mac.com (for mac.com mail addresses)
Click to select Use SSL to connect (recommended) under the Incoming server box.
Enter one of the following in the Outgoing server box:
    smtp.me.com (for me.com mail addresses)
    smtp.mac.com (for mac.com mail addresses)
Click to select Use SSL to connect (recommended) under the Outgoing server box.
After you have entered the incoming and outgoing server information, Outlook 2011 will start to receive your email messages.
Note: You can click Advanced to enter additional settings, such as leaving a copy of each message on the server.

  • Contact form smtp authentication

I think Muse should take into account that the contact form script needs changing for those self hosting and require smtp authentication to be applied. It could be a simple addition to the edit form dialogue box where smtp authentication details can be added

Someone told me that its because my class has a constructor in it. He said its a requirement (no-arg CONSTRUCTOR) if i'll use the code as a java bean.
    This is my constructor which i need to change to a method or something. Can anybody help me do the conversion to a method. I find it very difficult. Sorry. This is the constructor;
public MyPasswordAuthenticator (String username, String password)
    super();
    this.user = username;
    this.pw = password;
    Thank you very much.

  • Issue with SharePoint foundation 2010 to use Claims Based Auth with Certificate authentication method with ADFS 2.0

I would love some help with this issue.  I have configured my SharePoint foundation 2010 site to use Claims Based Auth with Certificate authentication method with ADFS 2.0  I have a test account set up with lab.acme.com to use the ACS.
When I log into my site using Windows Auth, everything is great.  However when I log in and select my ACS token issuer, I get sent, to the logon page of the ADFS, after selected the ADFS method. My browser prompt me which Certificate identity I want
to use to log in   and after 3-5 second
and return me the logon page with error message “Authentication failed”

  • Mail service not requiring SMTP Authentication

    hello everyone,
I have been trying to find an answer and could not. I want my mail server to require SMTP Authentication. I have "CRAM-MD5" and "Login" checked in Server Admin -> Computers & Services -> Mail -> Advanced -> Security. Still, I can set up a mail account with any name and domain and SMTP through my server. (It does require a password for POP, so at least no one can read others folks mail)
I have begun to notice that I get many returned mails that I never sent, from accounts that are not on my server. So, I am thinking that spammers are relaying or just using my server to spam. I would like that to stop.
I have changed the configurations with Server Admin, stopped service, started service, and even restarted the whole server. Still, mail will not require SMTP Authentication.
Can anyone help me do this with Terminal or manually?

thanks, for any help in advance.

  • GWIA SMTP Authentication

I've read a number of posts on this topic but still need some clarification.
Please forgive my lengthy explanation as I'd like to lay out the scenario properly - my questions are at the bottom of this post.
My current setup is Groupwise 7.0.3 with a GWAVA5 appliance as the front end.
All mail should go through GWAVA both inbound and outbound.
We have an MX record that points to our GWAVA5 appliance
We also have smtp pointing to our GWIA server for imap/pop connections by our mobile users, with authentication required.
I was advised by one of our users that he received mail containing an attachment "message.zip" which contained "message.htm" disguising an ".exe"
    containing a virus.
The header showed the following, with the actual domain name changed by me for security reasons.
The IP of the sender is intact.
    Return-path: <>
    Received: from "ourdomain.com" ([115.248.180.37])
    by "our_smtp_server.com" with ESMTP; Sat, 07 Apr 2012 07:07:41 -0400
From: "Automatic Email Delivery Software" <[email protected]>
    To: [email protected]
    Subject: Delivery failed

    boundary="----=_NextPart_000_0012_955492E2.6AD1CC6D"

    X-MSMail-Priority: Normal
    X-Mailer: Microsoft Outlook Express 6.00.2600.0000
X-MIMEOLE: Produced By Microsoft MimeOLE V6.00.2600.0000
This is a multi-part message in MIME format.
    ------=_NextPart_000_0012_955492E2.6AD1CC6D
    Content-Type: text/plain;
    charset=us-ascii
    Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit
The following is the entry from the GWIA log on the date in question:
    07:07:40 359 DMN: MSG 462912 Accepted connection: [115.248.180.37] ()
    07:07:41 359 DMN: MSG 462912 Receiving file: NCGWIA/DATA:\NCGWIA\WPGATE\GWIA\receive\db7ef7f4.224
    07:07:43 359 DMN: MSG 462912 SMTP session ended: [115.248.180.37] ()
    Questions:
It appears that the sender attached to our GWIA and sent the message from there.
The "mailer-daemon" indicates it was disguised to look like a system-generated bounce message.
What in my configuration would allow this?
Within the properties of my GWIA, I do not have "reject mail if sender's identity cannot be verified".
I've read the admin guides on this feature and it seems to point to PTR records checks.
    Would that prevent this incident?
We have a number of internal servers that do send mail, through our GWIA, and I have relay exceptions for those (otherwise relay is not allowed)
If I set the "reject mail......" how will that affect those internal servers - will they need an actual account to authenticate with.
    Hope I've explained it clearly
    Thanks in advance
    Vince

Thanks Uwe, but the sending machine is actually located "out there somewhere" [115.248.180.37] not on our network, so can't be checked.
As you stated, I'm sure this isn't a relaying issue as we have relay disallowed, with exceptions.
I suspect the mail went through because the sender used "[email protected]"

To prevent such issues, you could modify the access control of the GWIA and allow SMTP only for those machines/users who need it.
Relaying doesn't come into play here, since the sender addresses an internal recipient, so no SMTP authentication needed.

  • None of the authentication methods supported by this client are supported by your server.

    Dear Exchange Admin
We have implemented exchange server .
MAPI profile configuration in outlook is working fine.but when we try to configure POP3 in outlook ,without SMTP authentication it is fine.
But when we enable SMTP authentication ,it is getting the following error
"None of the authentication methods supported by this client are supported by your server.
    Kindly help
    Ashraf

This worked for me today, as I had the same issue.
I had to set encryption to TLS to get it to work, and the server names as yahoo.co.uk...
In Outlook 2013, click File | Add Account.
Select Manual setup or additional server types.
    Click Next.
    Select POP.
    Click Next.
On the “Account Settings” page, enter your account settings:
Your Name: The name you want to show when you send email.
Email address: Your full Yahoo email address.
    Account Type: POP3
    Incoming Mail Server: pop.mail.yahoo.com
    Outgoing Mail Server: smtp.mail.yahoo.com
    User Name: Your Yahoo ID.
    Password: Your Yahoo account password.
Leave the “Require logon using Secure Password Authentication” option unchecked.
    Click More Settings.
    Click the Outgoing Server tab.
Select the My outgoing server (SMTP) requires authentication box.
Click Use same settings as my incoming mail server.
Click the Advanced tab. Enter advanced information:
    Incoming server (POP3) port: 995
Select This server requires an encrypted connection (SSL).
Outgoing server (SMTP) port: 465, 587, or 25
Set the encryption type to SSL or TLS
Set your desired server timeout and delivery options.
    - We recommend leaving a copy of messages on the server.
    Click OK.
    Restart Outlook.
    Click Send/Receive All Folders.
You can now retrieve emails from your Yahoo Mail account in Outlook 2013.

• NAC Guest Server SMTP Authentication

Does anyone know if you are able to set your SMTP server in the NAC Guest Server to do SMTP Authentication? Our old Exchange server just let us specify the SMTP server and send the guest accounts their Username and Password to their outside accounts.  Our new Exchange server requires SMTP authentication, but we do not see the option available in the NAC Guest Server interface.  We are running NAC Guest Server 1.1.3.  Any ideas would be appreciated.  Thanks!

I have Cisco NAC Guester server 2.0.2 and have sort of similar issues.
I configured the Base DN to the OU of the sponsor groups in AD and then map that particular group in roles. Users from that group can log on fine and create guest accounts.
The problem is, it seems that other users from that OU seems to be able to log on as sponsors too. How do I restrcit this to just that sponsore group? I tried changing the Base DN to the OU of the sponsore group then enter CN=sponsorgroup to narrow it to just that group but still other users can log in as sponsors.

  • VDI and other authentication methods

    hello,
I want to set VDI 3 and i know you need AD/LDAP for a production environment.
I was wondering if in any way there is/(will be) an open framework for other authentication methods,
    for instance like HESIOD?
    thanks
    Michael.

Since you disabled "clear", you will need to configure SquirrelMail to use Cram-MD5.
    To do so run:
    sudo /etc/squirrelmail/config/conf.pl
and adjust your IMAP and SMTP settings
